Yeah, there is NO question that Famous Dave's get the elite five stars! Our evening started out pretty badly (see my review of Hook & Reel) but it was quickly turned around by one amazing person who rocked it behind the bar! As soon as we arrived we heard the wait for a seat was 2 hours, which seemed preposterous but it is a Sunday evening and it was pretty packed. So, we headed on in to the bar and we quickly realized it was the best decision of the evening. Our friend bar tender walked us through her favorite things and was an amazing brand ambassador. She made the most amazing rum punch for my other half and recommended a really great IPA for me. Then, she recommended some really great main course options. All in all, we were very satisfied and we look forward to our next opportunity to come by! We had an opportunity to speak with the manager, who was in the trenches himself (very admirable), and he was deeply appreciative hearing how our bar tender totally made our night. So I order a slab of ribs because on Wednesdays they're on sale for $17.00. They ask for the make and model of my car. I tell them they say they will bring my order to me. I get there 30 minutes later and am waiting in the to go parking spaces. No one comes out so I call them and whoever I'm speaking to says he's in a call center or something please call back and press 4. I call back the guy can't hear me. I put my mask on and go in. Good lookin black guy behind the counter says "pick up?" I say yeah tell him my name and he hands me my order. If you are going to offer this service someone should really glance out the window looking for the described car. If you don't want to do that monitor those parking spaces with a camera. Now for the food. These ribs were the toughest ribs I have ever eaten. and the slab was just cut in half. I ordered a Georgia Chopped Pork Sandwich via Eat24. The sandwich didn't taste too bad but it was small. I'm glad I ordered sides and dessert to go with it. First time eating here and I loved it. I don't travel too much to the Mainland from Hawaii so I've never heard of this place before. I checked into my hotel and felt hungry and started walking down the street and stumbled upon this awesome place. The bbq smell kind of drew me in too though lol. Anyways, it was kind of busy so because I was going solo, I didn't mind going to the bar area which was available. I didn't know what to order so the 2 bartenders (don't know their names) there were very helpful and suggested the Feast for 1 for $19. I got a cup of Blue Moon for $4.50!? A Blue Moon in Hawaii is like $7! Anywho, the platter came out and a saw a few people looking at this Asian boy like I ain't gonna finish this, but they don't even know me lol. The platter came with their famous bbq chicken, ribs, and pulled pork, fries, corned bread muffin, corn, coleslaw, and some pork and beans. Easy kill for me lol. There isn't too many places like this back home so I had to take advantage lol. They also gave me a rack of various types of bbq sauce for my food and they all tasted delish. The restaurant old school looking with a lot of room with tables and chairs. There're tons of parking for everyone. The staff here were quick and friendly. Second visit. First visit just to buy rub and get a menu. Counter person very nice and welcoming and explained they no longer sell rub but told me where to get it (good vibe). Went today for their Veterans Day Special. Outstanding customer experience and about a 3 minute wait for food to go. Witnessed a couple other vets come in and warmly received as they picked up their call ahead food. This is how a business gains good will and shows appreciation for the Veterans. The pulled pork sandwich and cole slaw were great. The pork just the right amount of smoke and the cole slaw creamy but still crisp (a little horseradish ... suggestion). Ok, yes, COVID, and we (most of us) do understand that things aren't normal, and things won't be normal for some time. But. But, that should not affect the base quality of the food being served. And I don't believe it does in this instance. I believe that the food simply is not good, as in "not at all good." We ordered a one-item and a two-item combo. Both had brisket, and the second of two items was riblets. I'll keep it short- brisket: overdone, horribly, which means dry. No taste. Visually unappealing. Look, I'm not a professional pit master, but I know how to smoke a brisket. It takes time, attention to detail, and a healthy dose of care. This poor, sad brisket has experienced none of those things. Riblets: dry, fatty, zero taste outside of sauce. Picture slightly moist beef jerky. Second: "Burnt Buttz", FD's "version" of pork burnt ends. Failure. FAILure. FAILURE. What was received? Chunks of tough pork lazily thrown in some sauce, served with unhappy, flappy-soggy French fries, but surprisingly good pickle slices. Pork burnt ends are (should be) just like brisket burnt ends- crispy exterior, sweet and vinegar, melt-in-your-mouth happy food. This was not that. Third: sides. Mac and cheese looked like poorly executed Kraft. Yes. Poorly executed boxed Mac and cheese. The Wilbur Beans, ok to good. Personal taste: I like them with more heat and less sweet. Corn bread muffin- delicious, the highlight. And it pains me to say that, and all this. I am a huge BBQ fan, I was so excited to try this place, and I sooooo wanted it to be good. I wanted it to BLOW MY MIND. Like I've said, BBQ is about time and attention. We can quibble about sweet and heat, vinegar balance. I get it, tons of personal preference. What has no room for negotiation is quality and taste. FD's missed the mark, and not in that "oh I had a bad day" sort of way. In the end, I purchased $53 worth of disappointing food. My advice? Find better BBQ. read more

Going to Dave's was treat for us and in the pass really craved Famous Dave's but Unfortunately the food was awful, all of us were missing parts of our meals, meat was so tough is was inedible. The food was topnotch. We were passing through the area and we were trying to find a place to eat that everyone agreed on. We finally "settled" for Bar-B-Que. That was a great choice. When we showed up, there was only one other table that was occupied. With that being said, I would have liked for our waitstaff to have been a little more attentive. Not that it was bad, just not what you'd expect when you're pretty much their only customer. The prices were a little high but that might be more about the area we were in. Although I really enjoy Bar-B-Q, famous Dave's has never been a goto Bar BQ place me. For me, FD's is only a tag along with another family member that "loves" FD's. The food is ok but leaves me craving the intense flavor that a real smoker can impart in the meat, flavors to me are somewhat pedestrian no mater which location of the chain that we dine at although I really do like some of the sauces on the table. Went here this past Saturday evening. My part of the party got there first and there was 6 of us. There was going to be a party of 10 of us. They sat us. And we told the waitress that is was going to be at least 30 minutes for the other part of our party to get there because they just got into town and we're going to their hotel first. The waitress understood. She got us waters to wait. We did order some appetizers to hold us over until the rest of our party got there. The rest of our party got there, and it was probably close to an hour actually. But our waitress understood. She explained about the menu and sauces. She was good at getting us refills. Our food did take a little bit but nothing too concerning cause we were a party of 10. (One thing is actually I never got here name.) I love coming to any Famous Dave's, the food is always excellent! We are here for a soccer tournament and after a game 20 of us went to this place. We were pre-warned that they were short staffed. While there, another 15 or so showed up. We ordered 6 of the family feasts. The food was out very quickly and was delicious!!! The service was friendly despite them being shorts staffed. Highly recommend!!! read more

The bbq sauce was real good. I had the chopped pork. It was dry, but tasted good. I wonder if they just leave it under a warmer after the pork is chopped? The mac and cheese tasted good, but was not as creamy as I prefer. Maybe they were going more for a baked mac and cheese? The hostess would not wait at the stand to greet guests. Wow. Unbelievable disappointment. For $80 we got soggy old fries, a mini cheeseburger on a full bun, two plates of some of the worst bbq I've ever had and a great waitress. I almost gave 2 stars because our server was so nice but the horrible food forces me to leave just one star. The portions are TINY now. The "brisket" was of the worst quality I've ever had. I really wish I'd spent the $80 on a good brisket and smoked it at home. This business needs to make some serious changes, I really hope they do - but we won't be back to find out. read more

This place is just alright. There was nothing outstanding about the BBQ, but it wasn't terrible either. I got 1/3 rack of ribs, the sweet corn, red potato mashed potatoes m, and it came with a cornbread muffin. The ribs were very fatty and sort of tasteless. Definitely wasn't enough sauce on them, but I also ordered it to go so not going to rag too much on that. The mashed potatoes definitely needed salt and pepper. They had no flavor and were pretty typical. The corn was, well corn (2 mini cobs). Not much else to say. The highlight of the meal was the cornbread muffin. It was really good. It was the perfect consistency, taste, and perfectly cooked. Overall it was just alright. The only notable thing was the cornbread muffin. I call ahead and order meat by the pound (beef brisket or ribs) and sides; we get potato salad, firecracker green beans, and Wilbur Beans. We are not crazy about the Cole slaw but still order because we do not hate it and you have to eat cole slaw with Q. By the time I reach Dave's, my order is ready to go. Neighbor Sam gets a kick out of the Devil's Spit bar-b-que sauce which we load up on as well as handi-wipes. (I find that if you mix the orginal sauce with Devil's Spit, you get a nice sauce.) Mediocre to good chain barbeque. None of the meats are deeply hickory smoked or fall-apart moist. My guess is they just can't take the time, given the large numbers of folks they serve, and really slow smoking probably just doesn't fit their profit model. If you want to compare this to some authenic slow cooked stellar bbq, eat here and then the same week go to Wolfe's on Colfax (better); Yazoo's on Broadway around 22nd (better still); or Boney's in the 1500 block of Champa, downtown (the best in Denver). If you do that and still claim that Dave's is the best barbeque you've had, then let's just agree that you and I will never really have anything to say to each other, and while we might buy each other a beer somewhere, and compare the different barbeques we've had, I'll never really respect you. Just want you to know that so our relationship starts out with honesty and candor. read more

Will likely never frequent this location again, I've loved Famous Dave's for years and have had good experiences before but this one was so awful. I ordered through the Famous Dave's website for delivery. After 2 hours I started contacting the store as that's what the website says. I called the store 10-15 times for 3 hours. I even called the Famous Dave call center who couldn't get through the store. The food never came and the next day it took 1.5 of calling over 5x to get a hold of someone. I did get a refund for my food but it seems that not answering the phone is standard practice. I love the food but wish the management cared about customers read more

The customer service was pretty par and the waiter knew what he was doing (gave suggestions, asked how things were going, food was cooked well). I had the lunch special so I could try the burnt ends, rib ends, and chicken. They were all horrible! Burnt ends were hard, dry & salty. Rib ends were just fat and a bunch of little bones. The chicken had been boiled with barbecue sauce slopped on soft, boiled skin - gross! It was all served on toxic disposable paper. The corn cake was disgustingly sweet, with sugar obviously the main ingredient. The waitress was rude and never came back around. I had ordered hot tea and wanted more hot water, but even when she would walk by, and I would say excuse me loud enough for her to hear, she just kept walking. Famous Dave's is OK. Not great but it's fine. When I was a kid, growing up in the Twin Cities, Famous Dave's was a big deal. In fact, it probably was my favorite restaurant as a high school kid, and one of the only places I knew of to get BBQ, especially Ribs. Now a days, it's hard to know whether they have changed or I have changed. Since my teenage years, I have had some of the best BBQ in Texas and in Kansas City, and Famous Dave's is just nowhere near that level. The pluses are that you can get Ribs, Brisket, Pulled Pork, Chicken, Sausage, Burnt Ends, pretty much anyday. It's close to my house, I can order online, and typically when you do an online order it's ready early or on time. The actual meat is pretty good, I still like their sauces. Their sides fall flat. The Feast for Two is a great value, it fed my whole family of 4 for about $40. You get a slab of Ribs, a whole chicken, 1/2 lb of either Brisket or Pork (I opt for the 1/4 lb of each), Coleslaw, Beans, Fries, Corn on the Cob, and Corn Bread Muffins. It's way too much food for 2 people and can easily be split with 3 or 4 people in my opinion. Going here is really no downside, there just isn't much upside either. If you want a convenient BBQ fix, this is an OK spot. read more

Had dinner with Hubs at Famous Dave's BBQ today. Boy this place is indeed jam packed. Luckily we were seated right after waiting about 10 minutes with the "light beeper" thingy. Our main waitstaff was Nicole. We ordered the Onion Strings as the Appetizer. I like it alot, though I think its just Onions battered with something special in which I cant figure out. Its so addictive. I guess I were so hungry. We ordered Mug Rootbeer as our beverages. For our main entree, we ordered the Two Meat Combos. Hubs choose, the Beef Brisket and Chicken with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Potato Salad. While I choose the Beef Brisket and Catfish with Dave's Cheesy Mac & Cheese and Famous Fries. Hubs like what he ordered. He gave this place 4 stars with the good flavor. For me, since I am not into this kind of place I give this place between 3 to 3.5 stars. So as part of my food adventure here in denver, BBQ was on the list. I ordered the 1/3 slab with the beef brisket. For my sides I got the corn on the cob and the mac and cheese. After reading a few of the reviews from other Yelpers, I have to agree that the food does come out luke warm. I would prefer that the food come out a little bit hotter. I thought the mac and cheese was pretty good. I especially liked the corn and jalapenos mixed in which gave it a little bit of sweetness and spice. THe cornbread muffin was good too, moist and flavorful. I do like the assortment of bbq sauces at the table. My preference was the "devils Spit" which had a decent bite to it.
