I bought 2 full take out rib orders on 2/22/22 and brought them home. My husband and I were so disappointed in the ribs. All BBQ ribs should fall off the bone, ours did not and they were fatty and tough. Had they been cooked correctly, that fat would have melted to nothing and the ribs would be falling off the bone. This is not the first time this has happened but I hope it is the last. Its foolish for a business to try to be authentic and pretend to know ribs, yet sell ribs that are tough to chew and uncooked. Especially for $70!! I don't mind paying that much but I want falling off the bones ribs! We have leftovers today, and I'm sticking them in the oven to finish cooking them. I was craving Mexican but when your friends choose BBQ then you make the best of it. Famous Dave's lunch menu featured Ba brisket taco and for a couple of extra bucks I was able to get the chili cheese nachos. My total bill was $5.87. The price was right but the food was just average. It's served in a taco holder on a little mini-cookie sheet. It's not a big enough platter for something that falls apart the minute you pick it up. I lost two pieces of brisket onto the table and you can say "5 second rule" all you want but I'm not eating food off of a restaurant table! The nachos were in a bowl so all the chips were piled up and hardly had any cheese on them. I would have rather had cheese dip on the side. At least put some shredded cheese on them in between the stacked layers and melt them. I know, you're saying 'serves you right for ordering a taco at a BBQ joint'. Famous Dave's has decent BBQ and I've had that too, but I've also had better. The lunch menu featured 3 different tacos and I was about to order all 3. I asked if they were big and she said typically people order 3 and eat 1 1/2. I did kind of wish I'd ordered at least two but alas, who would know that I'd lose half of the meat on the table? If I could split-up the score on service vs. food I'd give the service 5 stars. From the get-go our server could tell we were friends there to catch up with one another. We were not in a hurry, she asked us to put our menus at the end of the table when we were ready to order so she didn't interrupt. I recognize we took up a table that she could have turned over for another tip but instead she was stuck with us and we were there for almost 2 1/2 hours. RIP Famous Daves (Coon Rapids)... This review makes me sad to even write. Famous Dave's has been one of my family's absolute favorite restaurants. Usually I walk into this restaurant, order food and have way too much that I walk out with leftovers. I loved the southern bbq style food, all the way down to the presentation and atmosphere. Unfortunately, they now serve their food on little white plates, with smaller portions. I ordered some new rib item (which was still pretty good) for $18.99. I received a smaller portion of fries and a little cup of their mac and cheese. I walked in wanting good portioned bbq food/experience and felt like their brand is becoming some confused higher end Minneapolis restaurant with southern bbq style decor. The staff was very friendly, however, lacked attention to detail (which is uncommon, so it could be a one time thing). We didn't receive our cornbread the first couple of times we asked, and then we received one at the end of the meal. We had to ask again for our other order. No one even asked if we needed a refresh on our drinks. I had to hunt someone down. Overall it was a very underwhelming experience. I appreciate the many years you have served us Famous Daves Coon Rapids. I think this will be the last time we visit. If you like Famous Daves, you may get a better experience at the ones in Forest Lake, Roseville, or Mall of America. read more

I took my boyfriend out for an early birthday lunch this past weekend. Famous Dave's is one of his favorite places to eat. Given all of the diverse options in the Twin Cities, I'm unsure as to why Famous Dave's would be one of his favorites, but overall, we had a good experience there. There menu is pretty pricey if you choose to eat there for dinner, but for lunch, it's not too shabby. I did my research before coming in since I hadn't been to Famous Dave's in years. I couldn't remember what their menu included besides that there are a bunch of different kinds of BBQ meat. I decided to get the Texas Beef Brisket combo ($8.29 which comes with a corn bread muffin and a choice of a side) with garlic mashed potatoes. My boyfriend chose the shrimp tacos ($12.99 and comes with fried shrimp inside of the tacos and a side). I gave my corn bread muffin to my boyfriend since I don't like corn bread, so I can't say what that tastes like, but he said he liked it. The mashed potatoes were wonderful. Light and fluffy. The garlic was a nice touch that didn't overwhelm the dish. I do wish they could've been more generous with the portion though. I swear they put in two scoops of mashed potatoes and that was it. The Texas Beef Brisket was thinly sliced (which I like) and the sauce on it kept it from being too dry. It had a hint of sweetness to it. The meat seemed cold though, so it would've tasted better to have it hot. My boyfriend loved the shrimp tacos. He complimented the cole slaw and fried shrimp. I tried a bite, and I really liked the fried shrimp. I was expecting to see grilled shrimp, but the fried shrimp was a much better addition to the tacos. The fries or potato wedges he had looked decent. He did not say much about these. Note: They have plenty of different sauces you can try if you want to add more spice or zest to your dish depending on your liking. I tried a little bit on the chips that they give you when you're seated, but wasn't a huge fan of any of the sauces myself. The chips weren't great either. The service on the other hand, was great. We were promptly seated (there were only a few customers besides us there) and our waitress was kind and courteous. She checked in on us and asked us twice if we wanted dessert afterwards. Finally, when we were waiting for our food, I looked around and really liked the interior of the place. The strung up lights were charming, and the décor fit the theme that they were trying to go for. I could see this place being more fun when there's more people, but unfortunately, it was quite dead when we were there. We almost thought the place was closed based on the nearly empty parking lot. On the upside, you most likely won't have to deal with any lines or crowds. read more

Ate here with hubby on Friday, 7/12. We arrived at 7pm and only had a short wait. I had chopped pork, hubby had ribs. For my dish, it was yummy! The only thing keeping me from giving 5 stars instead of 4 is that my meat was very salty, and I didn't put a thing on it. Everything else - red skinned mashed potatoes and broccoli - was delicious. My girlfriend and I on valentines day ordered a platter to celebrate the nice day we were having, to our disappointment the garlic mashed potatoes were cold and not fresh very dry it seemed odd to us because the rest of the meal was very warm and perfect temp, in addition, the brisket was rubbery and nothing like other locations we have enjoyed over the years, we eat at famous daves several times per year and have always had perfect service and food at the Roseville location. this was our 1st time placing an order for pickup we let it go for a bit and did a fast run to Kentucky fried chicken to grab some mashed potatoes to salvage and replace the ones we were unwilling to eat from our famous dave order due to the additional looming concern on why there was a fork imprint in the top of them. what we could of our valentines day meal due to the fact the garlic mashed potatoes were not something we wanted a second bite from, when the next day rolled around I tried to call and get ahold of the manager who just now 5 days later called me back I was told each day he leaves by 3 pm and there is no one that can handle a complaint but him, today when he did finally reach out to me he was argumentative almost hostile in denial that anything could have been wrong I then after being lectured asked how would he know if something is wrong he is never at his own location then he became hostile and abusive when I confirmed he was not at the location all weekend and never after 3 pm I in defeat and not wanting to be verbaly abused any longer asked for an apology at the least with he did say I am sorry then proceeded to hang up on me so warning to anyone venturing to coon rapids location you better like what your served and not complain or you will be demeened and yeslled at, b y the way it looked like there was a bite outa our cornbread,do better cotperate keep a eye on this franchise in preticular the manager also would not allow me to leave a message for the owner. maybe there is an employee that's not happy and sabotaging take-out orders but seeing how horrible it was handled by the never-there manager you decide this was our experience. the brisket seemed reheated several times to make it that rubbery maybe that's the new thing there who knows the dogs liked it. read more

The new remodel is beautiful and modern. The staff was friendly and the food arrived quickly. Two shared the ribs and said they were very meaty and fulfilling. The manhandler was delicious, but could use more hot links. the Mac and cheese had a nice surprise of corn and chilies. The two meat combo was seasoned well but the chicken was a little dry. Famous Dave's has certainly been around forever and they are everywhere. This location is quite nice, with a large, separate bar area and ample dining area to accommodate the seemingly endless flow of people that come here. My family comes here, so we usually have a group of 8, and they are usually able to get us in right away, sometimes with a short wait during busy times. I have tried many things on the menu, ranging from chicken to salmon to ribs. I have to say, my favorite dish is the salmon. It is cooked well and is the perfect portion; extra bonus for being on the 'under 600 calories' portion of the menu. Unfortunately for this BBQ rib joint, I did not like the ribs! I was completely not impressed, they were overcooked and had barely any meat on the bones. My half slab meal (6 ribs) still made me full because of the two sides you choose, but I seriously had only a couple bites of real meat. Such a disappointment. Fortunately for this BBQ rib joint, they have fantastic sides! Obviously the corn muffins are superb and worth every single calorie; I believe they come with every meal choice, but don't quote me on that. My two side choices are usually baked beans and fries, but the have many others like mashed potatoes, green means, and coleslaw...choose what would go best with your meal choice for the best experience. You don't really want beans with salmon, get the coleslaw instead. Overall, this place usually has superb service. The wait staff always keeps your glass full, even without asking sometimes (unless its alcohol, they always ask then). My family of 8 usually ends up spending a solid 150 bucks, so bring your checkbook. read more

The sauce is the key selling point here. The BBQ is OK for a chian place and the prices are really good. You can feed a family of 5 for less than $100 and have leftovers. Not bad. They have a variety of sauces ranging from sweet to spicy and they have them all on the table. The family platter gets you pretty much everything, but if you dont have that many people. Get the ribs. The brisket is way too dry as is the chicken. None of the food really has that nice smoke that you are supposed to get with BBQ, but like I said, the sauce can add flavor and moisture to just about anything. Cornbread muffins are solid and the fries are crispy, so all and all, not bad. read more

Our 2nd time at the newly remodeled restaurant. Our 1st visit was amazing, the quality of food was top notch. Tonight the food was good but my Georgia Pork was warm, not hot. The corn muffin was slightly scorched as were the ribs. We ordered our favorite Bread Pudding to go. When we got home and opened the box, there was a teeny tiny piece of bread pudding. What happened? I measured the piece and it was exactly 2 3/4" square - more than half the size it used to be. We may come back for dinner, but we are done with the bread pudding. Not worth the $5.00. read more

Great service and excellent food! The server was consistently checking on me, refilling my beverage. My table was near the blinds which were open. The shining sun light was bothersome, but the food and service was great. I only wish they would have closed the blinds or pulled down the shades. read more

This was the worst Famous Dave's experience I've ever experienced. We love this brand. It beats anything we've had anywhere, including Kansas City and St Louis. We had a waitress named Gabby, and that she was... with the guy in the booth behind us! I'm talking 10-15 minutes chats with the guy... EVERY time she walked by. It was like she was trying to get picked up by him or something. The food took like forever. Beverage refills took like forever. I've never left any Famous Dave's feeling that disappointed before. She's lucky my mom, the excellent tipper, was paying. She "didn't even give her 20%." Um... she would've gotten a buck or two out of me if I were paying, just so she knew I didn't forget to tip.... Whoa saw the ad for the revamped menu and thought I'd give it another try. I always liked the food previously but the portion sizes and price made me stay away. So not only was the waiter rude but the portion sizes are even smaller. What the what ? Brisket had no smoke flavor and tasted like my moms over cooked dried up roast beef. There was no enough meat in the ribs to make it worth your while and the sausage wasn't smoked and one side had some grill marks on it but it wasn't good. Sides of Mac n cheese and potato salad were boring and flavorless. The corn muffin was definitely not fresh. What's worse is I stayed up all night with an upset stomach. I will continue to use this location for their catering as much as possible. The customer service always goes above and beyond with their staff. I once was in a bind and called them before they opened and they were able to provide lunch for 40 people for me that afternoon! Today I picked up my food and a young man named Dre helped with payment and taking the order to my car. He was new and you could tell but you could also really tell he was thankful for his job and was trying to do his best. I could hear the manager giving him points in the kitchen and not in front of the customer (myself) which I found very respectful. We need more young men like Dre! Thanks Again! One probelm is they removed pineapple rage from their choices of wing sauce. And no, the bottle of it they sell behind the counter or anywhere else does not tast the same. The ribs were burnt and dry. The brisket was rubbery and barely edible. What the heck? Was it a bad night or is this restaurant the exception to normally good food? We have been to this Famous Dave's numerous times over the past years. Last night our server had a really bad attitude before we even walked in. Even though the restaurant wasn't crowded My wife, granddaughter and I were seated at a table for two. It was crowded but we made due. The server came to take our order and she seemed to have an attitude right off. The meal progressed without a hitch until we were half way thru. The server came up and, with an attitude asked if we were "slowing down" and I responded that we were. Remember the small table. A minute later she came up to the table with several "to go" containers, flopped them down on top of our granddaughters coloring book and her plate, reached out and grabbed my wife's plate. The kicker was that my wife and I were still eating. Once we were done she came to the able again with an even bigger attitude, cleared the table and walked off. Our check didn't come for over 10 minutes so I went to find a manager. I explained the problem and offered to pay. After he apologized he said the meal was free and suggested that we eat at another Famous Dave's restaurant as she was one of his best servers. WOW! Food was awesome. More than we could eat but the floor was so sticky. I had brand new sandals on and I was worried about what in the world was on the floor. Then I saw them cleaning the table but just wiping it off the table and onto the floor. The manager came around and asked how we were doing and we told him the food was great but we were kind of grossed out by the sticky floor. I was surprised when he blamed it on a new hostess. Not a "oh I'm sorry" or "we will try to do better" but he blamed someone else. Not cool. And we were really nice about it, just trying to let him know....
