This place was recommended to me by a friend and what an excellent recommendation! The location in Coon rapids is small, so I ordered mine for take out. During the summer it looks like they have decent patio seating to expand from the indoor seating. The service was very friendly and they answered all of the questions I had about the food. Even though I went during the lunch rush, i got my food very quickly! The number 19 was very tasty! The crust is thin and chewy. The fire burned edges just enhance the overall taste! Drizzle more of the hot honey if you are a sweet and salty fan! The focaccia bread has a good flavor but is so thin that as soon as this cools down it is hard to eat. I would probably skip this in the future. The South Philly was tasty!! The bread was soooo soft and the onions weren't quite to a caramelized state so there was a little bit of snap in them still! I enjoyed that! The meat wasn't overly seasoned, so grab one of the sauces to add to the overall flavoring! I brought the family here for lunch over the weekend. I thought it was a pizza place, but a lot of pics here are for the Philly steak sandwiches. Everybody here was eating pizza, so no idea what the deal is with the sandwiches. The pizza is Neopolitan style - they are small and come out quickly. 2 pizzas were great for 2 adults and 2 toddlers. We got a margherita and a pepperoni. Pizza was fine, not the best ever, but pretty solid. Great for a quick lunch. The service was ok. The staff seemed preoccupied and in a rush. When they went to take our pizzas out to the table, one slid off the plate, bounced off the counter, knocked over some ramekins they were filling, and hit the floor, making a huge mess behind the counter. They made us another pizza of course, but didn't bring the first pizza (the one not on the floor) until the replacement pizza was ready. Very strange. All of that aside, I would come back for a break in the usual burger/taco weekend lunch route. read more

Our first time at Tono's and it did NOT disappoint. Their menu is simple which makes it easy for my husband and I who are not picky and love food. I got the fresh prince and my husband got the mushroom cheesesteak. Phenomenal. So good! The bread is pillowy, there is tons of meat, tons of flavor, and there were plenty of fries (which are also great). Loved being able to pick up extra side sauces from the counter cooler. And service was fast! We ordered ahead online. The restaurant wasn't too busy inside which is nice if you were dining in. We forgot to take pics of the food because we were too excited to eat haha. We keep ordering from Tono because it's nearby but not sure that's going to continue. Pizzas are good but they're still very stingy with toppings. I got a single slice from ElMar's that had more pepperoni than an entire pie at Tono. I used to think the Cheesesteaks were actually the better part of the menu, but see my latest pics. How can a CHEESEsteak have almost no visible cheese? And the meat was completely unseasoned. Bleh. My dad and I tried a new place that opened up not too long ago and I was pleasantly surprised! We ordered Tono's to go and I hope to try it again in the future! I ordered the No. 19 Pepperoni Bianco (hot honey and chili oil on the side) and the Focaccia and my dad ordered the No. 11 Margherita with pepperoni and the Truffle Parmesan Fries! My pizza was delicious and I would definitely order it again. I tried it with the hot honey and chili oil and those definitely pack a kick but it's not too spicy. I'll most likely continue to order it on the side so I can control the spice amount in each bite! The focaccia was disappointing and not what I was hoping for as the rosemary flavor was lacking at it was very thin and crispy where I prefer mine a bit more bready so I'll skip this next time. My dad enjoyed his Margherita pizza but not as good as some other similar restaurants. And the fries were lacking in crispness and flavor however, we did order for takeout so I would be willing to try them again when they are more fresh! Overall, I would try this place again and give some of the items a better chance when they are fresher by eating at the restaurant and maybe try a cheesesteak too. There aren't many pizza places like this in the Coon Rapids area so I think this is a good addition to the neighborhood! read more

I particularly enjoyed the honey on the spicy tono pizza. However the garlic Parmesan fries did not have melted cheese and were just regular fries with cut cheese tossed on top. The food is always amazing! I usually get the margarita pizza and a salad. The salads are always super delicious and the pizza is super good, but even better with the bees knees ranch! Went in on a whim because "Cheesesteaks" is in the name. I hadn't had a cheesesteak in a long time, so wanted to try this place out. Ordered the Phat Tony. The habanero jam did not disappoint. It's not spicy though, but had great flavor. The food was really good, but I don't know if I can bring myself to come here again and spend that much on a sandwich and soda (came to $20 with tip at 18%). I thought the sandwich was very tasty, and I really did like it.I just know I can get something comparable for less than $12. I *might come back and try a pizza, as those looked a bit more value-friendly (comparable price, but more food??) 5 stars for taste 3 stars for price Net = 4 stars. I'm a sucker for a good pizza. Tono is up there for a good pizza place!! The pizza Crust is Perfect! Crisp but not burnt. I just got a standard margarita pizza and it was one of the best I've had. I didn't feel like I needed more toppings. Phat Tony has tons of meat on it. The variety in fry sauces is a unique and memorable touch. We also enjoyed being able to select your cheese was a different twist.m. We didn't get cheese wiz but maybe next time. The sandwich was Drippy but not too messy. (If that makes sense...) however if you get the sandwich to go it Might not be good. Staff was very friendly and helped us decide what to order to put the cherry on top. As of this writing, Tono now has 3 Twin Cities locations. This was my first try..."Sicily Meets Philly"...Italian Pizzas plus Philly Cheesesteak Sandwiches. Yum! Today was the grand opening of the Coon Rapids location. This is a casual place in a new strip mall. You order up front and take a number. They bring the food to your table. Of course, you can also order ahead and get takeout. They have fountain drinks and specialty drinks in glass bottles. (Beer is coming soon.) They also have a cooler full of interesting dips & sauces. There are a bunch of Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches to choose from. You choose the variety, choose steak or chicken and pick a cheese. I went with the "Fat Tony" with beef which features bacon and habanero jam - fries on the side. It was awesome. They have a bunch of pizzas or you can build your own. For my pizza I ordered a "Tono" which has peperoni, bacon, tomatoes, etc. Again, it was excellent. The flavors were great. My only minor gripe is the fresh tomatoes contain so much water, the center of the pizza gets soggy immediately and the center toppings tend to slide off. Sun dried tomatoes might be better. Still...it was very good. The employees and the manager were all hopping and TOTALLY on top of everything! We'll see how it looks in 6 months when the shine is off. Overall would recommend this place to people who aren't too concerned about food/customer safety. They make a bomb ass cheesesteak but every other time I get one I find a hair in it. I can't think of a time where I remember seeing an employee wearing a hair net or mask. Their cheese steaks are the best in Coon Rapids if you can get over the public safety concerns. read more

Tono's Pizzeria and Cheesesteaks is a nice little joint up in Coon Rapids. It was a drive for us to get there but we were pretty please with the end result. Since it was such a far drive we decided to do take out and bring it home so we could take our time and enjoy it in the comfort of our own home. Restaurant: Didn't get to spend much time in here cause by the time I got there my food was ready and no one else was at the register. I walked right up, gave my name, handed me my food, and then I was out the door. It was about a 3 min experience in its entirety. From the quick looks I got from the store it has a more modern style, open table and floor plan, but was on the smaller side. I thought the pizza oven right behind the register was a neat touch and I wish I could've seen them cooking in there when I arrived. Other than that the store was clean, quiet, and seems to be well taken care of. Food: My wife loves cheesesteaks as where I love pizza. We were pretty happy to find this place since it matches to both of our food preferences but my wife liked her cheesesteak a lot more than I liked my pizza. To start I'm very glad my wife's entree was cooked great, seasoned good, and tasted delicious to her. I tried a bite of it and the steak wasn't chewy and tasted well prepared. On that note her meal was a success! My pizza however wasn't anything out of this world. The pizzas they sever here are Neapolitan style and it's not that I don't like that it's just I have had better in multiple places. I'm not saying it is bad at all; the pizza was cooked well, had tasty sauce, good cheese, a little skimpy on the toppings, but over all a decent pizza. It just wasn't as good as pizza from Punch, the Epcot Italy Pavillion, the Chicago Airport pizza place (can't remember the name), or even that mobile wood fire pizza place at the farmers market at the Guthrie. By all means it was a good pizza but I've had my many shares of amazing pizza and this didn't live up to my own expectations. Overall: If you are in the area Tono's is definitely worth your time and money. If you have to drive far to try it, (like me), it may not be worth your trouble. It has a decent menu, reasonable pricing, and delicious cheesestake. It's pizza was lackluster for me but it may be the best that you have had. Unfortunately, I am unable to rate the quality of food since I was denied service 20 minutes prior to close. I went in at 9:40 and was told I was not able to order sandwiches since they had already cleaned the grill. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, the grill does not take long to clean and should be done at close. If they wanted to provide good customer service, they would have made the sandwiches and taken the two minutes to re-clean the grill at an appropriate time, such as close! read more

My wife has been so excited to try this place since it has opened. Today is her birthday so we had lunch here. We ordered the supreme steak and cheese philly. This was loaded with meat, cheese whiz, grilled onion, green pepper, jalapeño and mushrooms. This sandwich is served with truffle fries. The sandwich was delicious. The only thing we would do differently is no onion (over powdered) and add salt and pepper. The meat was not seasoned well. The fries were good. Ours were on the colder side but were still good. The garlic aioli was outstanding. The pizza we got was Don Pepe. Other than needing a little more sauce it was perfect. The basil made the pizza extremely flavorful.
