The food was great. So happy the server gave us good recommendations, otherwise I would have missed seeing the Turkey & Brie melt on the menu (it's on the breakfast page). Very good. Just don't have the crab salad roll. There was maybe a tablespoon of crab salad with a bunch of chopped lettuce on two small rolls for $13. Friend had chicken salad which she said was great and two others had a wrap which they liked. Service was okay but one of the servers had a ring in her nose. We're only going to restaurants that have outdoor seating. We went here last Wednesday, and was told that the outdoor seating was closed, and only indoor seating was available. A very yummy way to start the day! I love that as a gluten free person I actually had options for my toast. I had the avocado omelette -very tasty- and my husband had the Famous Hash, also wow! The interior is upscale, clean and modern with a touch of mountain charm. Our server was polite and prompt and very informative. BTW, My husband really enjoyed the cornbread and apple butter. We normally love this place but this morning we waiting over an hour to get our food with our toddler was served decaf coffee after being told it wasn't by another waiter. Once we arrived at 11:00 on a Sunday it looked like about 2 tables were sat so I was excited that there wouldn't be too long of a wait but the hostess very rudely informed us that the wait would be 2 hours. The eggs were over cooked (yolks were gelled, not hard, but not even close to runny. It was an adequate meal. Tasted adequate but if I was ever back I would order something else. Service wasn't very good on the morning we ladies went & after 2 tries on cooking my sister-in-laws eggs over easy, the cook could never get them cooked right. This could've been remediated easily but they did not care to address the situation. The hostesses clearly were not on the same page. They had their oh sh*t faces on and were not able to handle the morning service. Tough pill to swallow here considering we were the second car in the parking lot prior to open. Probably a blessing in disguise as the front of the house is a good indicator of how the place operates. 0 stars if I could. Take your dollars elsewhere. What a disappointment! Both omelettes were very thin and rather than the fillings being mixed throughout, they were lined up! Our potatoes were totally inedible... some cooked to mush others hardly cooked. Coffee was mediocre at best. As all of the servers are supposed to take care of all tables, shocking that they all kept bypassing our table! The one saving thing was sourdough bread was fantastic! I can find anything bad to say! Service and food were excellent! We went on a Tuesday morning in mid-December as they were the only option in B.R. and I am so glad we did! Party of 2, seated immediately, ordered a smattering of poached eggs, waffles, flap jacks, toast and sausage. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly - they even have a guide to what each style of egg means on the menu lest anyone not know and then be disappointed. Went there today not for the first time but definitely the last. I had always thought their breakfast was very good but today I got an apple cinnamon pancake with eggs and bacon (a very simple meal) with a cocktail to drink. The pancake was burnt on one side and not cooked at all on the other side, which I would've pointed out to someone had I been served by anyone after the food was placed on my table but when the food came so did the check (something they hadn't done when I've gone before and very rude in my opinion to assume I don't want anything else while I eat or after I finish). It was almost like the staff was actively avoiding my table. I wanted a second drink since I finished the first one relatively quickly but again there was no service after we got our food. I put my card on the table to pay and it was picked up within 2 minutes, while my glass was empty for 20 minutes. The service is shared service- which means nobody wants to work really hard because there's no financial reward for doing so. We had slow service and it made for a very frustrating experience with two toddlers. The food was good, but the fact that no one wanted to take responsibility for service made me feel crazy. Part of my order never came, a water requested showed up near the end of our meal, and no one was available to take our payment when we were very ready to leave. My husband had to go to the bar to pay- and he had to ask someone to actually take his card even there- no one was paying any attention to the needs of the customers. Even the hostess was overheard multiple times telling other employees "I haven't gone out to check on folks for an hour- you can do that!" I tried to take my toddler to the bathroom at the end and someone told me there was a wait for that too. It really wasn't that busy, folks. No thank you- I won't be back. read more

There are always a few deadbeats who consider it their job to give negative critiques to a newly opened restaurant just because they can. Or could these poor reviews be initiated by one of their competitors who do not want this business to succeed? At any rate, we find these negative reviews to be uncalled for. We are locals and have been frequenting the Famous Toastery since it opened a few weeks ago. We have been for both breakfast and for lunch, and we find it to be delightful. For breakfast, my husband and I have tried various breakfast dishes, including the Cali Benedict, the Classic Benedict and the Famous Hash. (See menu on website www.famoustoastery.com.) All have been delicious, served in a timely manner with smiling faces from the waitstaff. For Lunch, the burgers are awesome - cooked to order and also served in a timely manner by smiling servers. I have eaten the crab rolls on several occasions and find them to be delicious. There is not another crab roll on any menu within miles of Blowing Rock. Today, my husband had the meatloaf sandwich and raved over it. The waiters/waitresses are not assigned specific tables so that there is always a server available if you should need anything. They are always hustling and ready to meet your needs. Their attitudes are very upbeat, often singing and dancing around to the music While this is not a fast food restaurant, we have never felt that we waited longer than necessary for any dish. We will continue to support this restaurant, and encourage each and every local individual, seasonal residents and tourists to give this restaurant a try. read more

We were looking for a breakfast place without a huge wait on Sunday morning. The Famous Toastery had just opened a few days earlier, and we were seated immediately. The service was great, Walt and the owners were extremely personable, and I was really pleased with the menu. Breakfast out is often problematic for me because I don't eat pork or gluten. They had gluten-free wraps for breakfast burritos, multiple gluten-free breads, plus turkey bacon and turkey sausage. what a disaster of an attempted breakfast outing. Breakfast in Blowing Rock on the weekend can be a time consuming challenge. We had a party of 9 (two families). We arrived right at open, 8:30am, maybe the second group through the door. Hostess immediately tells us it would be a 45 minute wait. We offer to split into two groups VERY clearly. She said it will still be 45 minutes. How?!?! Gives some ramble about it still requiring the same amount of kitchen and wait staff. Says they are short staffed due to COVID which is perfectly fine. We decide to wait knowing it will take longer to go elsewhere. Next party comes in, different hostess says "10 to 15 minute wait". Say what? Next group comes in, again "10 to 15 minute wait". We are looking in disbelief. Hostess comes over to talk to us (seemingly prodded by the other hostess who had a better grip on reality), gripes about us having 9 people. We remind her we offered to split into two groups. She still tries to defend her actions. At this point, no less than 15 people total have been seated since we walked in and gave our name. Bad hostess continues to be unable to see her mistake, or unwilling to admit it. We walk out to drive 10 minutes to Boone to the chik-fil-a drive through. A nice breakfast plan ruined, despite knowing we had a large group and doing everything in our power to get there early. Go to Sunny Rock instead, folks read more

I was excited to come here because some of my friends recommended it. My party of 4 arrived at a little after 0800 and there were 2 other parties eating already. There was nobody at the front to greet us for around 3 minutes after we arrived. Someone eventually came to seat us. Right after we were seated 3 or 4 more employees popped out, even one at the front to greet people. Four other parties came in and were seated. Someone came to get our drink order fairly quick, but it was another 10 minutes before anyone returned to take our orders... while other servers took the orders of those that came after us. When we finally ordered it was another 50 minutes before our order came out and it was all jacked up... not hard to fix but I ordered Southwest Omelette with mushrooms added and grits with cheese and rye toast. Others ordered avocado omelette and southwest omelette. They gave me the avocado omelette and said they were sure it was the one with mushrooms. The grits had no cheese and the wheat toast was there. The 4 of us just exchanged plates, toast and grits. Overall the food was decent... but the service really slow. I would still recommend coming here, arriving before 0800 on weekend maybe because it is a popular and busy place. All of the servers checked back with us often to see how things were and gave us more coffee. They have daily specials on a separate menu and maybe those wound be faster to make than omelette. DEFINITELY go here if you are in town... I will be back to visit someday. read more

I've visited this location several times during visits to Blowing Rock. Typically Sunday mornings. If you show up early, service is quite slow. They aren't staffed to handle early morning crowds, especially now that that weather is warm. You seat yourself. They are usually in the kitchen, and never notice. I've had to flag down servers to get my order taken. This is a chain, but the food is usually pretty good. Strangely, you have to ask for butter for toast after they bring the plate out - they have jellies on the table, why not butter?They benefit from the fact that less places are open Sunday morning, and another location moved away after many years.
