Ordered takeout today. 3 out of our 4 sandwiches were wrong. Total bill was $48 for lunch, so probably won't be back. Grilled chicken sandwich was dry, they forgot the honey mustard and added the tomato we asked to be left off. The left coast BLT had the tomato, Brie and pesto Mayo left off. The Buffalo chicken wrap had about 1/2 teaspoon of Buffalo sauce on the whole sandwich. On the bright side, it was ready on time and curbside delivery was easy. read more

The only thing good about this place is the staff were friendly. Pancake was hard and rubbery, scrambled eggs were dried completely out, French toast came out ice cold and had to send back. The reviews are correct, there are a lot of staff people but no one came to refill coffee. I had to flag down a waiter (not ours) to get a refill. The breakfast potatoes were blah, no spices and the omelette was eggs that seemed to just have been cooked and then folded over some ingredients. Pretty pricey for such mediocre food. read more

Entering into the restaurant we did not feel welcome at all which I guess should have been our 1st sign to leave. I was very disappointed in the attitude of the staff that assisted us..no one acted as if they even wanted to me at work that day..no smiles noe personalities at all except Brandon he was great. And the sad thing is they didn't even try to act like they wanted to help they let you know they just wasn't feeling is. Went for lunch yesterday w/ a friend. Sat outside, which was nice, but I believe each outdoor table should have an umbrella. We both got the lobster rolls w/ cucumber salad. Lobster rolls were delicious, cucumber salad, refreshing. But, the prices are really steep. I accept higher prices for exceptional food and service. I honestly LOVE the food... but the past two times I have been there with the same group of friends, we were trying to catch up and enjoy our time together and we were made to feel as though we needed to leave because we were done eating. Both times the servers asked if we wanted "to go cups" when we're just sitting and talking and not making any motions to leave. I find this very rude. We waited 30 minutes for our table and then they tried to rush us through. If I wanted fast food, I'd have gone to Chick Fil A for breakfast. Then when my friend asked, "do you need our table or something?" And the server responded, "actually yes." Then, when I complained to the manager he offered no apology and was actually kind of rude. Super quick delivery of food (almost not sure the food was made to order... as it only took maybe 2 minutes to plate my breakfast and bring it out). 3 stars due to the poor service... waitress sat me and never came back and then another waiter asked if I was ok. Tried this place for the first time and to say the least I'm not impressed. The food was delicious and priced reasonably but LADIES don't go here with a low cut shirt or dress. The good majority of the male staff will be looking at your chest! Not even being discreet about it. They will stare then look at you in the eye after you catch them MULTIPLE TIMES doing that. Ok I've given this place TWO more chances. I didn't eat here for a very long time (because of previous bad experiences there) and not at all during Covid until two months ago and again this week. But overall I had a surprisingly ok time there and meal wasn't bad. So I went back this week, sat outside, hardly anyone there, and the food was awful. Barely warm sausage patties, poached eggs in what tastes like lemon water (yuck! My son hated his too), and dry toast. No butter provided (I had to ask). Then two staff members descended upon my remote corner patio table and started sweeping wet leaves and literally flicking water off a table in our direction with a rolled up towel RIGHT beside us, in an otherwise empty patio. They congregated and would not move on. My son and I got fed up with the intrusion, paid our bill and walked out. Have never seen such oblivious staff workers. They were STILL there in that same spot when we drove away! They had the whole damn patio to sweep and they started and stayed in that one corner where we were... the rest of the tables elsewhere were empty! Unbelievable! This is the most poorly run restaurant I have ever been to and I've given them sooooo many chances to get it right. Stay far away from the Toastery in Waverly Place. Co-worker and I have been coming here since they opened for lunch. Always ordered the chicken bacon wrap with honey mustard sauce. Chicken was so terrible today, was like they reheated from previous day...very dried out. When they first opened the chicken was very fresh and all white meat chunks..what happen?.....No manager came over to talk...Somebody grabbed the receipt on the table and took 4 dollars off and then put it back on table without ever talking to us....waiters\waitresses have always been great! was very slow at 11:45 today.....customers do not mine waiting if your cooking fresh food!!!! read more

Let me say that I'm not a person to write negative reviews (check all of my others for reference). I worked in the food service industry and ALWAYS ask to speak with a manager if I have had an issue with the service before taking to social media to lambast someone. That being said the negative review below is a result of our interaction with management after our meal. First off the food here was excellent, bacon was crispy, the hash browns amazing, the French toast on point, even the coffee was great, however once it was delivered to our table we never once saw our server and no one stopped by for almost 30 minutes. Coffee and water were both empty and we finally had to flag someone down to get refills. When I asked to speak to the manager he came over, and asked how things were (clearly unaware of the issue from his commentary). We told him the food was great but the service wasn't what we would have expected (considering there were at least 20 servers on the floor for training and only about 40 tables). We didn't want food comped, we didn't want a gift card for next time, we just wanted to make someone aware of the need to focus a bit more attentively on the service (in a calm professional manner mind you). He barely took the time to listen to us, almost acted as if he had something more important to do, and then went and hurriedly brought our checks (almost taking no time to make us feel better about what happened). He essentially wrote the whole thing off to being a new restaurant (which we knew going into this mornings breakfast). As in we didn't have plans to do anything else afterwords, and weren't in a hurry to leave. When we checked out we made the cashier aware of the service issue and instead of asking if we'd like to speak with the manager she essentially shrugged it off, not even acknowledging our comment (and we were trying to help them understand what they could do to be better in a very professional way). Absolutely not what I would have expected, considering the reviews for the Charlotte area locations. This review is only necessary because of the way the manager spoke with us in a fairly condescending manner and actually interrupted us while trying to tell him about our experience. I'll give them another try but I'll wait few months because the food was so good, hopefully things will have turned around by then. read more

Stopped in for lunch today since there was no wait. Ordered the Black Bean burger since the menu said it came with guacamole and salsa along with chips. This was the most disgusting and unappetizing black bean burger I had ever seen! Most black bean burgers still get char-grilled and appear like regular burgers. This burger was purple- like bright purple, and fungus looking. It honestly looked like something straight out of Alice in Wonderland. After having to wait almost 20 minutes for that nasty burger, I gave it back and ask for a bacon cheeseburger instead, only to have to wait ANOTHER 20 minutes!! Visited Toast on Sunday around 11:30am. There was a wait of 15-20 minutes for 2 people. Thankfully, it was a nice day outside and outside seating is first come, first serve. However, I had to ask about outside seating. The waiter was nice and knowledgeable. I ordered one of the specials, two poached eggs on avocado with cheese and Cajun spices, a fruit cup and side of hash browns. I was under the impression it was going to be avocado slices, but instead it was a whole avocado cut in half, with the poached eggs in the middle. The presentation was beautiful but the whole dish was bland and dry. The poached eggs were cooked well but the dryness of cheese and avocado was not good. The $5 mimosa was good and worth the money. The total was $26 with tip, which based on the food was not worth it. read more

A new addition to Waverly Place, Toast is getting a LOT of attention. My coworkers and I decided on getting lunch here one afternoon but seeing as we only get 30 minutes for lunch, we ordered our meals to-go. We were hoping they'd offer delivery as we aren't very far, but alas, they do not deliver. Placing an order was crazy. I must mention that we were ordering on Thursday at 11:30am...so weekends must be even crazier. It took at least 6 phone calls before I actually got through instead of getting a busy tone. When I arrived, the place was PACKED. There were a bunch of people waiting to pick up their orders as well as people waiting to be seated. I'm glad they're busy, but they'll need to work on a more efficient system, and fast. Right now, it seems they only have 2 cash registers. In which one isn't really used. So there is one person checking people's to-go orders out as well as checking people out who have already had their sit-down meals. The poor lady in front seemed a bit frazzled. I stood there for 15-20 minutes before I was able to pay her (and I was second in line for the to-go orders). She was very polite and apologized for the wait though...it s just seems like she needed some help. I noticed that a lot of people were coming over from the hospital to pick up several orders. It might be a good idea for Toast to invest in some large paper bags to help people carry the trays out. I myself ended up balancing 5 trays out the door. We had 5 orders and the overall reception at our office was a YAY. We had a few meatloaf platters and the meatloaf was very good. It wasn't dry and was flavorful. We had 2 orders of burgers and one was properly cooked to order, while one was overcooked. A couple of the orders needed mayo on the side instead of on their sandwich, but there was no mayo in sight (on the sandwich, in a baggie, or in a cup). TL;DR: Overall, the food was pretty good. The meatloaf was a winner, but they got a couple things wrong with the order. The staff was very friendly, but service was very slow. We'll probably be back, but not anytime soon. Hopefully by the next time we come, they'll get into the flow of things. read more

Location is great, atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the service was amazing. I like that they give you an option to order a drink to go ( I did not take advantage of this service, but I'm impressed it exists). I went early in the morning on their 4th day of it being open. It wasn't crowded so the kitchen couldn't have been crazy busy. Our food was out only 3 minutes after ordering which was great. The portion sizes were fair for the price. The quality of the food is the downfall of this restaurant: -The complimentary corn muffins were straight from a box with nothing added, flavorless and dryer than the Sahara Desert. -The sauteed onions and spinach that were part of the omelet were so soggy, tasteless, and muddy that it would seem they came straight from a can or perhaps leftovers from the previous day. - The french toast was rubbery. Barely covered in egg at all. They were so heavily dowsed in Cinnamon that I thought I had been unknowingly volunteered for the Cinnamon challenged. -"Fresh" orange juice was obviously Minute Maid fountain or box poured. -The sausage was so bland and cold on the inside I swore it came from a freezer pack and microwaved, instead of fresh sausage that had been cooked. There's plenty of competition in the Triangle for well-prepared, fresh food. If Toast Cafe steps up their game I'll come back, but not until then. read more

First off, let me compliment the food. The bacon, flapjacks, eggs, and hash browns were excellent. However, the service completely overshadowed the tasty food. We were sat at a table of three in the middle of the restaurant. After being sat, we were offered a coffee refill once (in 45 minutes) and after our food arrived, we were not visited by a single person. Keep in mind that there are roughly 40 tables in the restaurant and there were 15+ server staff. After waiting for approximately 15 minutes after completing our meal, we were finally offered more coffee at which time we asked to speak to a manager. We expressed to the manager that the food was excellent but that we felt as though our table had been lost and we had received zero service. Instead of apologizing, he started talking over us and thanked us for the critique in a condescending manner. My entire party felt as though he was talking down to us. At that time, we asked for the check (which he stated should have been delivered with our food). When we stated that it hadn't, he proceeded to search the table as if we were idiots and didn't know what a check looked like. Surprise surprise, he didn't find it. 5 minutes later, we received our checks. Nothing comped, not even the coffee. At the register, I mentioned our terrible service and got the following response that had no emotion behind it: "Oh. Sorry about that. $36.88 is your total." In the restaurant's defense, they've only been open for a couple of weeks. However, there is no excuse for the behavior of the manager, who should know how to provide better customer service and accept critiques without talking over the customer. I might patronize this establishment again. But it will be months from now, and I'll certainly not visit while the current MOD is there. read more

You walk into a restaurant, they tell you there's a 20 minute wait, look to your right once that delicious free coffee! What's that next to it? plenty of comfortable seating. What's that beyond the wait? A BEVY OF FRENCH TOAST?! It's worth it at all times. I had seconds. I even had a drink, which I didn't like and was immediately replaced with a peach belini which I did. My wife placed the order for pick-up and was given an approximate time for it to be ready. I got there at the end of the window of time when it should be ready. I gave my name and the hostess went to the kitchen to check. She came back and said the food was almost ready and it would be a few minutes. After about 10 minutes, I went back up to ask her to check again. She headed toward the kitchen and I didn't see her again. After about 15 minutes I ask the other hostess to check. She went to the kitchen and said it would be a few minutes. I keep waiting and waiting and what I assume was the manager came up to me and apologized and said he would get the order taken care of now and said he would also give vouchers for 2 meals. I wait and after about 15 minutes I start to walk up to the hostess to cancel the order since I had paid over the phone and the food came out. I waited in the restaurant over 45 minutes after the time I was told the food would be ready. I drive home which is less than 2 minutes away. I get the food out of the bag and look, but the vouchers I was told I would get were not there. My wife's food was lukewarm and due the entree was not conducive to reheating. I checked my buffalo chicken wrap and it is warm, but the side of mashed potatoes was cold. I heat up the potatoes and the strong smell of garlic hits me and because I don't like a lot of garlic, I throw them out. The places I have been tend to call them garlic mashed potatoes, but know you don't have to. My buffalo chicken wrap didn't have any buffalo sauce and the chicken was dry. There were a lot of people there and were willing to wait the hour they were told, so they must like it and maybe this was just a bad day. I won't be going back. read more
