Pretty good food and generous portion sizes. The mapo tofu was pretty mild, but with nice soft tofu and aromatic base, plus some added variety with edamame and mushrooms. The mushroom fried rice was savory and slightly smoky, with subtle hits of saltiness. I paid around $33 after tax and tip, which is reasonable, especially since I ended up with a ton of leftovers.

I really like the ambiance of this place! I had a long day today (in a good way) and was way too lazy to cook. This was on my way home and I've been meaning to try it. I like that their fried rice isn't too oily and I highly recommend the apple soda too

I was invited by a friend to join her for an event. Always open to try new spots I was happy to join. Fan Fried Rice Bar is a very unassuming small spot on the corner of Driggs, you might miss it if you are not paying attention. We had 7pm reservations, I arrived early and lucked up and found parking right across the street on a lovely Friday. (Now that's BK Love!) Once we settled and perused the menu, we went with popcorn chicken as the appetizer and glass of wine and sake to start. The popcorn chicken was flavorful, well seasoned and pipping hot. It paired nicely with the glass of wine I ordered and the drizzle of sriracha, I added. For the Fried Rice we ordered the Spicy Mango Shrimp and the seasonal fried rice of Sha Cha Beef. The seasonal fried rice consisted of flat iron steak, mushroom, chili, and bullhead barbecue sauce. I didn't try my friend's rice because I do not eat red meat. I ordered the Spicy Mango Shrimp which contained bell peppers, chili, mango and of course shrimp. The rice was tasty but lacked the spice I was expecting. On the menu there are options for an array of different fried rice & protein options as well as a few small plates and beverages. Overall a nice introduction to Taiwanese inspired street food and a local business that I may otherwise not have been aware of. This is a small restaurant with a few tables for outdoor seating and a staff that is attentive and pleasant. Just A Note: They have an array of different fried rice options for all dietary needs.

I made a reservation through resy but was over an hour late due to the road closures for the half marathon. I called ahead to let them know and they were so nice about it because their lunch hours weren't fully booked that day. I was feeling adventurous and didn't do my research beforehand aka look at the menu so I had no idea that all the entrees were fried rice dishes! I was highly intrigued because they must feel very skilled in making fried rice to be this bold! I ended up ordering the night market taiwanese sausage and popcorn chicken for the appetizers. The taiwanese sausage was nice and juicy but the cost was hefty in comparison to Taiwan's night markets. The spring onions sandwiched between the sausage made a big difference! The popcorn chicken had a lot less breading than bubble tea/snack shops, and the quality was a lot better than the places that I usually get it from. I especially liked the fried basil leaves that topped the dish. But again, the price tag was a turnoff. It was hard to pick the fried rice dishes because they all sounded interesting. We ended up getting the sha cha beef, which is seasonal fried rice, and numb numb pastrami. Our server kindly put in our request to make it a tiny bit spicy. The sha cha beef was just ok, which was kind of disappointing for $19! The numb numb pastrami was soo addicting because of the spices. The flavor profile was so much better than the sha cha beef. My husband kept saying he wants to try making it at home lol. I would say that the fried rice dishes were well portioned to justify the price. The space is decently sized but I could see it getting full quickly. It wasn't difficult to find parking nearby on a rainy Saturday afternoon.

Almost thought that I've stepped into the wrong place when I arrived, since the atmosphere is very western - it looks more like a bar than a taiwanese restaurant. Hope that they could add more taiwanese elements, perhaps putting some oriental decorations or playing taiwanese music ;) * Popcorn Chicken Authentic taiwanese popcorn chicken with fried basil, making it crunchy and fragrant. The boneless chicken breast could be more tender for my liking though. * Taiwanese Sausage Egg Fried Rice The taiwanese sausage amazed me! Very similar to those you could have at Taiwan night market. I was surprised that the fried rice tasted like the famous egg fried rice at Din Tai Fung, yet the rice was slightly too hard and grainy. It was a bit weird to mix peas into the fried rice too (my taiwanese friend kept nagging about it lol) I would certainly revisit for the authentic taiwanese sausage! My Recommendations: Taiwanese Sausage Egg Fried Rice Worth Returning ? Yes

We were able to come out for an early dinner in the neighborhood on a Friday. The restaurant got real busy with reservations and walk-ins during our meal. There's bar seating, table seating (high and low tops) and outdoor seating. Looking to try as much as this place offers, we ordered the golden kimchi, popcorn chicken, cold zucchini noodle salad, and the (special) sha cha fried rice. The food came out so quickly - about 5 minutes after we ordered, we were elbows deep in bowls of food. The popcorn chicken was perfectly seasoned, crisp outside, tender inside. The golden kimchi had an unfamiliar, but welcome sweetness to it that was a nice foil to the other salty dishes. While we enjoyed the idea of the zucchini noodle dish, there was far too much garlic for our enjoyment. The bitter raw garlic absolutely killed our tastebuds. The sha cha fried rice was top notch. However, I had hoped for a little less rice and more star ingredients.

If you love fried rice, drop what you're doing and get over here. This place is exactly what this city is missing, modern chill, authentic, and packed with flavor. As someone who grew up eating homemade fried rice in Toronto, I know what the real stuff tastes like. The popcorn chicken and mushroom fries are tasty starters. And the Taiwanese Sausage fried rice reminded me of home. Whether you like classic style or more modern flavors you can't go wrong with any of it. No better way to spend a night out with comfort food, delicious drinks in a modern space.

A little pricey for fried rice but it is in the heart of Williamsburg so it's understandable. I got the Sha Cha Beef for $19 which was good. It taste like the Chinese bbq sauce with fried rice which was exactly what I was expecting it to taste like. I also got the cucumber appetizer which was also really good. Spicy and refreshing! One bite of the fried rice and you can tell that it has been cooked on a wok which is why the fried rice was so good!

Super cozy little spot in Williamsburg with some really great fried rice! Seriously, as the name suggests, this places fried rice really shines in comparison to everything else. You can't go wrong with any of the fried rice options, they're all gonna be delicious. The staff was very chill and sweet and the food came out in a pretty timely manner. I'd personally skip the mapo tofu but the oyster mushroom fries were super yummy! The portions are also pretty great! Super fun little spot to try out if you craving some delicious fried rice.

If you want to feel like you're living in a melancholy Hou Hsiao-Hsien film sharing one last meal with your lover before they catch the last train to Pingtung, then the vibes at Fan Fried Rice Bar are on point for you. I loved the mushroom fries, which I believe used trumpet mushrooms as a base and had great textural contrast. For a main, I stuck with the classic gold plated fried "fan," which is the perfect comfort food on a windy winter night. Don't skimp on having a Taiwan beer to complete the aesthetic.

Came here for a weeknight dinner with someone and didn't have to wait for a table. The restaurant is very very casual. Not sure I'd necessarily go too out of my way for this, but I live around the area and can definitely see myself coming back. The rice servings are a pretty decent size and can easily be shared between two people. We got: -Shrimp Ball appetizer: really flavorful. Definitely the best thing we ordered. -Taiwanese Sausage Rice: this was my favorite out of the two rice dishes we got. The sausage is really flavorful. -Chicken Specialty Rice: this was my least favorite. It wasn't bad - I definitely still ate it, but it just seemed to be lacking in flavor. I wish the chicken had more flavor or something and it was the same texture as the mushrooms. It was a bit one dimensional - I ended up mixing in some of the seasoning from the shrimp ball to it.

If you're craving some authentic Taiwanese fried rice, you've come to the right place. The authentic Taiwanese flavors took me back to Taiwan with every bite. The Mushroom Fried Rice is a must-try, and their Lychee Taiwan Beer is the perfect match. Friendly service and a cozy vibes. Love it!

They open at 5 pm for dinner and I came to wait at 4:50 pm. I was able to walk-in right away and get seated. SM in the chicken dish stands for soy milk and it was definitely something I was able to taste. The portion size was pretty decent but I did had two issues with the dish. The dish was more of a Sichuan/Mala type of seasoning rather than something you expect to see from Taiwanese fried chicken. I did wish they use that kind of seasoning instead. With such a big portion of chicken, I also wish they had more of a variety of dark and white meat, as I had mostly white. I also ordered their minced pork over rice and their beef noodle soups - two classic Taiwanese dishes. I actually ended up enjoying Wenwen's take on the two dishes more than the chicken! They were also known for their fried Tangyuan desserts and that was something I enjoyed as well!

Nothing stood out to us and we tried over ten menu items. Most dishes are spicy, so clarify how much spice you can handle, because I burned my mouth on practically every dish we got. Taiwanese Pork Jowl was the best dish out of everything we ordered--this I would get again. Recommend. Handmade Chili Oil Wontons were just okay. Sacha Hot Honey Popcorn Chicken was too spicy and the breading was hard as a rock. Too much breading, too little chicken. Pickled Cucumber Salad was a let down. Skip. Peashoots w/ Tofu Skin was dissapointing and watered down. No taste. FenZheng Pork--Spare Ribs, Kabocha Squash, Tianmianjiang was the worst dish we've ever had at a restaurant. Tasted like bland baby food. So horrible. Steamed squash and congealed, bland broilled ribs with pieces of cartillege--inedible. How can a dish be so repulsive? Drinks were a disappointing--The Shyboy tasted like rocket fuel--wooow, what a rough drink. Soyprise Punch tasted too sour and too sweet and too weak simultaneously. Skip those two drinks.
