Staying at the Lakefront Hotel and hit the Fancy Moose for a quick dinner. Fantastic view of the lake and Merril Field in a bright lounge. Service was exceptional to include recommending a local take on the Old Fashion that was great. Fresh wild salmon was good too. You pay Anchorage prices, but it was worth it.

Food- meh. Burger seemed like from a frozen box, fries tasted reheated, quesadillas was meh- didn't have firm chicken chunks. Service- friendly but SLOW AS MOLASSES! One waitress FOR THE ENTITE ROOM. Ridiculous! Had to flag her down to get our order and check. Noise- loud, it's a bar. View- awesome! Not going back.

You can't go to Anchorage without stopping in at the Fancy Moose( among the several names it has had since I started annual fishing trips & numerous business trips before retirement, for a really cold beer and their amazing Halibut & Chips! It's worth the trip and while I have never eaten any other entree in my 25 or so times there, I can say the selection of beer is first rate and the Halibut outstanding!

We came down to eat at this restaurant because it was in the hotel that we were staying at and seems like a busy place with an older crowd. You have a good view, the food was OK I was expecting a little bit more in taste. We both had halibut burgers and I was still hungry so I had halibut Thai. The service was kind of slow and it took the waitress awhile to check if we needed refills.

Patio seating in the bar is great for watch the float planes landing and taking off. This is why we were there. Service is a little slow but honestly once service is open the patio is full. The servers weren't the friendliest either. So the stars are for atmosphere. We ordered a couple of appetizers and drinks for an hour of entertainment. Crab and artichoke dip was pretty tasty and the shrimp cocktail was exactly what was expected.

The food was surprisingly good. Watching the planes was fun. As stated in all of the other reviews, the service is slow. They had 3 wait staff serving The Deck and the inside of the Fancy Moose looking over the deck. They were all working very hard. My son was impressed by the sweet and sour halibut, I enjoyed the the Denali dip, and my wife enjoyed her rueben. The fries were crispy and hot. If you aren't in a hurry, a good spot to eat.

Been here 30 times over 7 years. Wait time is often longer than most places. Seems they never have enough help. The food is good, had a large sampling of menu options. No complaints there. Price is in line. View of lake Hood is awesome. Love watching the planes making water landings. Very convenient to stay here when flying out. Airport shuttle runs every thirty minutes. My only complaint is wait times. You can easily sit at the bar 5-10 minutes while bar tender runs back and forth while never being acknowledged as was the case today. 10 minutes before I had to just yell that I wanted a menu and a beer. Halibut tacos were great.

Cobb salad - brown avocado and crab (fluff)? Only $31 . No thank you .

So the food didn't look fresh at all so I just sent it back. I wasn't impressed for a $31 salad you can see the photo for yourself

    Our yummy food!

Food not that great. Had Halibut & Chips. Fries were warm to cool. Halibut tasted like oil needed to be changed. Will not eat here again.

Outstanding food and location. Too cold and wet to sit outside but a lovely view of the lake and floatplanes landing & taking off.

We could not have asked for anyone better! I ordered the amazing fish and chips (substituting tots), and my daughter had loaded tots, ravioli, and macaroni and cheese. Everything was delicious! Seating is made up of booths along the window perimeter, tables thru the middle area and a large bar area with more tables and stools along the counter. The menu selection is surprisingly diverse. I was happy to see halibut as the fish for their fish & chips, as it is often cod or other white fish. I find halibut to be the best. They also have a few dishes with nods to Korean and Thai flavors. There are pizzas and dinner salads too. I went with their bacon jam burger for dinner. It is cooked to your liking and has a grilled apple, cambozola, bacon jam, arugula & house mayo. This is the best burger I've had in a long time. The flavors complement each other so well. If you are a fan of bleu cheese you will really love the cambozola. It is creamy and oozy and is amazing on a burger. My spouse tried their Cuban sandwich and didn't like that the pickles were mediocre and didn't add to the overall flavors, and that the bread wasn't crisped or toasted in any way -- the way Cubans traditionally are. He also took a chance with a appetizer off the specials menu which he imaged was Brussels sprouts however it was shaved sautéed Brussels sprout leaves, over warm couscous with lots of fresh herbs, jalapeños, and heavily spiced with bold spices like fennel. It was bizarre and not like anything we've ever tried. We liked some of the flavors but all together didn't make sense to us so we sent it back, unfortunately. Our child tried the Mac and cheese that came with purple grapes and sorbet. The Mac and cheese was good although I'd advise SRH to try a larger noodle than a small shell so kids can stab it better and get it in their little mouths. The sorbet must be seasonal/rotating bc it was cinnamon honey pear and it was crazy delicious. I'd come back for just the sorbet tbh. Other than that our red-haired bespectacled server was fairly attentive and quite friendly, even on a very busy Friday dinner rush. Parking lot just outside seems easy enough as long as you can grab a spot at busy times. Will be back in the future for the fried halibut (and sorbet!).

Now, my first culinary experience with this restaurant was a good one, their cheese burger with honey and whipped Brie?!?!?!?!?! Is a masterpiece disguised as a cheese burger the tater tots on the side? Meh! Nothing to see there. The most mind-binding, disrespectful thing I came across at this establishment is them calling a glorified Little Caesar's quality cheese bread with a side of dipping sauce a "Pizza" if it wasn't enough that this cheese bread was marketed as a "Pizza" which it is not but to call it a Detroit style Deep dish? Unforgivable! I wanted to love this pizza so badly but I cannot allow anyone else to spend $28.00 on a dried out, over cooked order of cheese bread. The service was good until I was given Diet Coke instead of Coke Zero. I swear service recovery is such a lost art. C-

I'm glad that they had beer flights because I was unable to decide what kind I wanted. With some assistance from the bartender I chose 4 beers and every single one of them was wonderful. I would absolutely go back if I'm ever in Anchorage again. It does get a little bit loud and it gets very crowded so be prepared to either wait, or sit at the bar. It is open seating, you check in at the host stand and they'll give you a menu and you just find a place to sit. All in all it was a wonderful time and the food was great. The servers seemed a little new, but the service was good and friendly. They carry Frontier brand sodas which we found to be excellent for their flavor. We got root beer and ripe raspberry soda. I ordered the Chili AK Salmon Bowl which our server confirmed is wild salmon. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich with fries. Both meals were really good. I especially liked the sauce on the salmon bowl so much so that I asked for a little more only to be charged for the extra sauce. I also noticed they include a service charge on the bill (note that this was not gratuity). They told us it was to help them get seasonal labor and to cover overhead. Maybe this is an Alaska thing, but with menu prices as high as these, why would you need to add a service charge? Pricing and nickel & diming aside, I would recommend this place.
