We also tried the calamari which was soso but the other items we're pretty good and authentic. Definitely better than what I've sampled in San Francisco Chinatown. If you want egg rolls or potstickers then this is your place but if you want something like BBQ pork brace yourself for a plate of veggies and a slice of pork, if you're looking for wonton soup you'll get a tub of broth with TWO wontons and if you want their oh so famous duck be prepared to have a dry piece of meat thats not even cooked on site. Definitely don't judge a book by its cover!! We always drive by this restaurant and think hmm, "is it really good Chinese food if you are next to a gas station and your sign is falling apart?" But let me tell you everything we ordered was delicious. We got, hot and sour soup, Mongolian beef, veggie mix and chicken and chicken chow mein. The food had so much flavor and it was not that kind of greasy Chinese food that leaves you feeling gross. We asked for mild Mongolian beef since we shared with our two year old and he loved it. Fantasy Restaurant is an absolute hidden gem! I live in LA (a mecca of Chinese food) and have family in Petaluma. I was so surprised to find delicious, AUTHENTIC Cantonese Chinese food in this area. I've tried many of their dishes and have never been disappointed - roasted duck, green beans, chow fun noodles, and more. They also offer authentic Chinese delicacies like tendons, pig ears, and intestines. On top of it all, they even have hot pot! The service and staff are wonderful too. We used to go to Lily Kai, but Fantasy far surpasses in taste. It has quickly become one of our favorites and we come every time we are in town. read more

I can't believe I just now found this place. All the good things other Yelpers have been saying are true. Their duck is awesome. The Hot and Sour soup was one of the most flavorful Hot and Sour soups I have ever had. We ordered some baby bok choi and brocolli and some sui mei. I asked for some hot mustard, it was interesting, maybe some commercial mustard was mixed in with the hot mustard? Whatever, it was delicious and nice to dip the veggies in. A couple at the table next to us was having the Hot Pot and we promised ourselves we'll have that the next time we visit. It is awesome to find such a gem just a few miles away from us. We have been driving to San Francisco and Oakland for years with out a clue this restaurant existed so close. It really was exactly like eating in a restaurant on Grant Ave in San Francisco. Hopefully this restaurant will thrive and they will be able to add more Dim Sum to their menu. I would love to have some Lo Bok Gow. read more

Good customer service. Very nice people helping at the front. The eating area itself is kind of...odd. Very dark and more like a bar or cafe seating. TVs on the walls etc. It smells amazing when you walk in and there is a display area of all the marinated roasted duck, char siu, and pork belly. It felt like I was in China Town! The char siu (or honey BBQ pork - as listed on the menu) was tasty. Duck was just okay - nothing to write home about. And the green beans were also decent. I, however, didn't like the sesame beef. The pieces of beef were very thin and fried in a batter and sauce but the pieces were so thin it was more like eating a fried skin instead of pieces of beef. We got won ton soup too which was actually a little salty for my taste but the won tons were good and the BBQ pork inside was also yummy. There weren't many won tons which was kind of disappointing. Overall, it was okay. I'd try it again sometime. read more

I am really excited to have a restaurant in the North Bay that serves wonderfully crispy roasted pork belly, roast duck, soy sauce chicken, steamed salty chicken, chinese bbq pork, etc! I am doubly excited that they also serve hot pot for dinner! Hot pot is chinese fondue with seasoned broth, if you didn't know.. I have been looking all winter long for a restaurant serving any form of hot pot - japanese nabe, shabu shabu, chinese hot pot, etc. north of Golden Gate Bridge. I really enjoy hotpot on cold winter days and spicy hot pot on hot summer nights with the AC on! You order a base of soup stock and also ingredients (priced per item) that you cook your self at that table in the boiling soup. You can get a half-half pot which i generally like with original recipe broth and spicy broth. The spicy broth can get pretty spicy, so ask for mild if you're not sure. You don't generally drink this one as it can give you a stomach ache. However, I really like having some udon at the end in the original broth. You order generally a meat, a seafood like shrimp and fishballs, tofu, and veggies. Meat comes thinly sliced, cold/frozen that cooks up in seconds in the bubbling hot soup. (You should wait for the soup to boil before putting in raw food.) There are lots of choices so one can ideally have an all veggie pot or all seafood. I love the pea sprouts, enokis, shiitakes. I do recommend putting in the daikon and lotus in the beginning because they take a little longer to cook. They also have bamboo pith, bamboo, lotus root and other ingredients typically found in similar restaurants in SF. You also order the dipping sauces - which you can mix and match at the table in your own bowl for your own concoction to suit your palate. (I like to mix a bit sesame paste, chili sauce, soy sauce and if available a touch a vinegar. Sometimes I like the satay sauce but it's pretty bbq-y.) Portions are good and you can always order more if you feel like the table is running low. You can also order some cooked appetizers while you are waiting for the soup to boil / cook. We liked the green onion pancake and bbq pork. I really think this is a great family dining or friends dining experience. We dined downstairs and a couple people asked the owner what we were eating. Another unique aspect is that they have "dry pot" which is described as "griddled lamb / duck" which is a newer trend right now. We haven't tried this anywhere but look forward to trying it next time. And if we have any leftovers, they make a great dinner / lunch the next day! Super delicious. Bring friends! read more

I usually come in, buy char sui, roasted pork belly, or Peking duck to-go. The only place I know in the North Bay where you can buy by the pound. Excellently prepared. However, the in-house menu is amazing with lots of off-beat not-your-usual-fare selections HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. The chef here is excellent. He and the staff have always been super friendly to me. And I always buy a box of the roasted peanuts on the way out, a perfect TV snack. read more

Saw the restaurant for a while now and was very skeptical about It since it was in Petaluma. I'm so use to great Chinses Hong Kong style food in the city, but decided to give it a go. Very cool concept. I've never had Hong Kong style BBQ but basically they've got a small buffet section where you pick your dishes (depending on if you are eating in or taking out) and then there is a whole meat section (behind glass) where you choose the meat and then they chop it up for you. But be prepared, because you are going to see things you're not accustomed to, like pig ears, beef tendon, and pork tongue. We only tried a few items but we'll definitely be back so we can try all the meats. read more

I seriously loved this place! We did the hot pot- we selected chicken, meat balls, noodles and various veggies. We went with the spicy and regular broth. They bring everything over and set it down for you put it in the hot broth. It takes just a few minutes for your food items to cook and you scoop into your bowl. The flavors are phenomenal and portions are generous. It was just two of us but we had enough to feed another two or three people! The service was great and ambiance was cozy. Not many people visit here but they do make decent meals. Usually they make lunch meals with all orderves on one plate. Best time to come is lunch time. If you want a quiet place, this place is to be in. They have stove tops on table upstairs, namely called " Dah Been Lo" or in other words dip any raw food onto the pot, on the middle of the table in the middle and take it out when ready, mainly for parties of 5 or more. If you're not accustomed to Chinese style or Chinese individuals in the restaurant, then this place is not for you. read more

Really some of the worst food I've had in quite a while. Everything was maximum grease and minimum flavor. The duck had no discernable flavor at all. Not even duck flavor, and it was greasy and flabby. The noodles that came with my BBQ combo were so greasy that they glistened. The topper was the nonexistent air-conditioning in the dining room. Although I'm confident the building has A/C as the bathroom frigid. 86 degrees outside and easily ten degrees hotter inside. Extremely disappointed, not at their food, at their poor business practice. I have been there at least three times prior for togo orders. We have been very happy with their authentic Chinese BBQ. This time, we decided to dine in for hot pot. I have to say hot pot was ok, a little bland. However, I was happy to find an authentic Chinese restaurant in Sonoma county. Please look at the attached photo of my receipt, there is a 18% service charge. When questioned, the waitress first told me that it was a restaurant tax fee that the city charges. So I asked her why should I pay for your restaurants business expenses such as a fee that the city charges the restaurant. And then she told me no it's for the customers to pay for. I asked her if it was for tips, she told me no. It is separated from tips, and also she told me that I should tip her more if I like to. At that point, she still couldn't explain the18% service charge, so she told me that they are from San Francisco, and all the restaurants there charge the service fee there. Wow, I have been to San Francisco and other parts of the country, but never was charged for a fee like this. Then she said the service fee is allowed to be charged by law for a party of 5 or more. We only have 3 people at our table for dinner. At the end, I paid my bill with 18% service fee with $0 in additional tips. Also I will never go back there, and I also will not recommend any of my friends to go there anymore. Be aware if you go and dine in. This is absolutely unethical business practice. I planned to tip them 20% in cash before I saw my bill, since they were so afraid that I wasn't going to tip them and judge this book by its cover. I guess let them be. read more

well , i checked it out on the yelp , to see what is going on ? is it worth to try try it ... since i am a really picky chinese food . i came there on 03/16/2022 at 11.30am . when i came the restaurant looked closed ... but the said it is open ! . i knocked on the door ... soon after that a chinese young lady opened the door and asked me ... what do you want ? well , it means if we want order we have to call them in advance and then they will let us know how much and how long it would take ... so , i ordered . 1 roast duck , 1 princess chicken , 1 soy sauce chicken , 2 pounds of roast pig , 2 pounds of char sui ( red bbq pork sirlon ) , i said i would come to pick them up at 6pm . the lady called about 6.10 pm to pick up my ordered . i di come there at 6.25pm to pick them up , the bill was 139.00 dollars , i did it by cash when i ordered them . came home , i tasted every thing , the princess chicken was excellent , soy sauce was that good , too . bbq roast pig , was good and... i was very happy with what ordered . to save a trip to sf city if you live in the north bay , go here , you will not be sorry . read more

The roast pork skin was not very crispy during this lunch visit and the noodles lacked flavor. The vegetables that came with my combo plate were very fresh. Of all of the excellent restaurants in our community, I chose Fantasy to celebrate my birthday, with my family. a party of four. While placing our orders, we were asked about anything to drink? In unison, we all asked for hot tea. We were advised that a pot of 'oolong tea' would be a $15.00 charge. A cup of tea was quoted as $4.00. Of course, we declined the tea and settled for water. The meal was excellent. The service was spot on. There was nothing left to take home. Food is fresh. service is friendly and prompt, and there's no other place in this area where you can find BBQ meats, roast duck. roast pork hanging in the window.
