I went to Farmer Brown's at the request of a family member. I hadn't been in probably 15 years, but it really hasn't changed much at all. I was expecting a down home steakhouse from a bygone era and that's exactly what I got... vinyl tablecloths and all. They don't take reservations, and when we arrive shortly after 5 PM, there was a very long line already. So we didn't get seated in the first wave, and had to wait almost 2 hours for a table. This is to be expected because it's the most popular restaurant in the area, but when they announced tables over the intercom, it was very hard to hear in the restaurant because there was such a large group of people waiting to be seated, that it was quite loud. I would recommend collecting phone numbers from people so you could call or text them instead of making a loudspeaker announcement which is hard to hear. The high points of the meal were definitely the meats... Most people in our group enjoy their steaks or prime rib. The kids meal fried shrimp was actually a bright spot and surpassed expectations. One thing that's odd is that when you order a main dish like a steak or a prime rib, you get a choice of salad, a choice of a potato side, and also a choice between a small side of spaghetti or green beans... That was a little odd to me. And don't order the spaghetti, it is truly terrible. The sauce literally tastes like ketchup with ground beef in it. Glad we went because it was definitely something different, but it's not somewhere that I will probably go back to for some time.

I went here for lunch and ordered their chicken fried steak lunch that came with green beans, garlic mash and a roll. It was delicious and the breading is exactly how I like it. Retro style decor and music, playing Frank Sinatra etc. And the server was really nice and friendly. Overall nice experience.

Simply WOW!!! We had a great last meal while visiting Nebraska this last weekend. We were staying in nearby Schuyler and we wanted to do a road trip on our last day. Four gentlemen in Clarkson said we had to come to Farmer Brown's and it was that good. Our server, Natalie was tremendous. Her timing and her personality was perfect. The hostess, Payton, (sp?) was also quite friendly and remembered us and told Natalie that we were visiting Nebraska from Oregon. Our daughter had the Chicken Fried Steak, my wife had an assortment of sides since she is vegetarian. All were great. But that Prime Rib...it is the best I have ever had. It had so much flavor and seasoning that it was hard to wrap some of it for left overs. It was also extremely good two days later, after being wrapped in ice and on a plane. We will definitely make the 45 minute drive to Waterloo for Farmer Brown's on our next annual trip to Nebraska. It was incredibly good.

All around- best steak house! Their old fashioned atmosphere is a perfect pairing with their deliciously cooked steaks. They're cooked perfect every time and masterfully seasoned. I haven't had a bad thing on the menu, but I feel like if you've made the trip, you need the prime rib. It's top notch! It all pairs well with green beans or spaghetti, choice of potato, and the bread brought to the table. The servers, bartenders, and hostess are always nice and helpful.

I recently had the pleasure of reconnecting with some of my former coworkers, and we decided to meet up at Farmer's, an old-school steakhouse they frequent monthly. They do not take reservations but once you put in your name head to the lounge and take a seat. They make stiff drinks, which I do appreciate. The service was amazing! I typically get a filet or prime rib. I decided to get the filet and it was so tender and juicy. I'm a meat and potatoes gal so I had to go with the mashed potatoes, also incredible. And the spaghetti with it, chefs kiss! My picture doesn't do justice. I will definitely be back!

Lovely old school super club. Great service, wonderful atmosphere and the food was superb. Great place to go and enjoy

I left at the green beans instead of the spaghetti. My mother is crazy about the spaghetti I loved dipping, the hashbrowns and the Au Jus!!!

Pretty difficult to get a reservation on the weekend unless you think ahead but they also have a bar with open seating if you want to go that route which is what I did. The restaurant itself has an outdoor patio with impeccable views of the lake. Perfect for a night out with friends or a date night. This time I got wagyu bolognese, lobster bisque, honey cornbread, and wagyu sliders. The wagyu sliders were so moist and cooked to perfection. They're paired well with an aioli that's gives it a little flair. The highlight of the show was the Wagyu Bolognese. I often struggle with pasta being too heavy of a dish but this one was perfect. The pasta was very tender and was clearly homemade which was bonus points for me. Bar service was great and I've never had any complaints. Can't wait to be back for more here soon!

For our meals, I ordered the Wagyu Bolognese ($30), and my friend had the Braised Short Rib ($39). We also shared the Herb Butter Buns ($8), which were fabulous--hot, soft, and served with whipped butter and flaked sea salt. Pure perfection. Unfortunately, the entrees were disappointing. Salted Edge is definitely more of a "treat" for us given the price, and we were both excited to try Chef Joel Hassanali's creations. With his background--growing up in Trinidad, working in his parents' Caribbean restaurant, and training under world-renowned chefs in NYC--we were expecting bold flavors and spice. Instead, both dishes were surprisingly bland. Her short rib, which comes with a jalapeño potato cake, Bloomsdale creamy spinach, and horseradish crumble, lacked the punch we were hoping for. The ambiance is lovely, the staff attentive and polished, and everything looks beautiful. The pasta was freshly made, the meat tender, and the presentation impressive. But for those of us who don't get to splurge on fine dining often, the food didn't deliver the wow factor we expected. Overall, it was an elegant experience, but I'm in no rush to return.

For starters, we had the bacon-wrapped shrimp, which came with mushrooms on the side. It didn't look particularly appetizing when it arrived, but it was absolutely delicious. The mushrooms were especially good--salty without being overpowering, which I really enjoyed. To drink, I tried the sangria. It didn't particularly stand out, but it was still enjoyable. For my entrée, I chose the whiskey ribeye cooked medium-rare, and it came out exactly how I like it. The steak was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. The salad bar wasn't huge, but it had a nice variety of toppings to choose from. The atmosphere is rustic with very dim lighting, and there were a few TVs throughout the restaurant as well. It does get quite loud when it's busy, though. Our waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a good experience, and I will definitely be back.

But I'm not a huge fan. First, it's really, really dark and really, really noisy. Not a place for a conversation, especially if you are dining with kids. The salad bar is, well, meh. The tastiest part is the super sweet poppy seed dressing. As far as the stars of the show go, I've eaten several of their steaks. They've all been well marinaded and perfectly cooked, but the ribeye and strip had a lot of exterior gristle that should have been trimmed off before grilling. Meals come with a baked potato, and other sides are available. I wish creamed spinach and corn were options (it is the Cornhusker state, after all), but those are just my preferences. We made reservations weeks ago (we knew the College World Series would be in town) so we did not have the 2+ hour wait that less organized folks were complaining about. We were seated right away - yay, OpenTable! Service was very attentive, and our meal's timing was impeccable. Omaha has a lot of choices for carnivores, and The Drover is a long way from the worst I've tried. I'm just not not sure it's where I'll get my steak fix in the future.

Gilberts serves more than just steaks, as I've been to the one in Tysons Corner and loved that one. There were four of us who came here for dinner... We started with cocktails, which took an odd amount of time to arrive at the table - we got half and then waited about 10 minutes for the other two to show up. Not sure what happened here, but those who got their drinks waited so we could all drink together and this made that moment a little off. We started with their Pretzel Crusted Onion Rings - WOW!! These things were HUGE!!! The thickest and biggest onion rings I've ever seen or had and they were tasty! The pretzel crust was very tasty too. I opted for their blackened chicken rigatoni for dinner. It was decent, but on the bland site. The roasted red pepper cream was interesting looking, but a scoop of blandness too. Overall I did like the flavor of the chicken and the sauce/texture was nice. This visit was decent, but slight delays in service and food being on the bland side makes me want to give it 4 instead of 5 stars.

I'm not sure anyone had an amazing bite but the menu was large so there is still potential! I will say the one thing that stood out the most to me was the flavor. And my friend got the chipotle potatoes au gratin and said he could barely get the potato flavor. We all had the three course meal and most of us got the steak. We all ordered at different temperatures including medium well and they all came out rare or just uneven. It was good flavor and it wasn't too chewy so we all just ate it with no complaints! Along with the three course meal was a mini dessert so we all tried each and they all fell flat. We did get them to-go so maybe that had something to do with it but even a simple brownie wasn't anything great. Overall I want to chalk it up to wrong ordering and hope to come back and try other menu items and some suggestions!
