I went for a 50th Bday dinner. Just 4 of us. We started with cocktails and shared two appetizers. The crab cakes and the pork belly. Excellent!!! Big price but, big portions. If we weren't sharing, we would've been good with apps, bread and drinks. A 10 out of 10! The prime rib was cooked perfect but was very chewy. Thought I was eating a dairy cow. I was very disappointed but didn't complain because I was enjoying my brother's 50th birthday dinner with his wife. All food is à la cart but shareable with generous portions. Service was excellent. Dark wood tones, low lighting and leather chairs. Light is so low, you need your light from your phone to read the menu. Made a reservation. Arrived and was seated promptly; however, no one came to the table for over 15 minutes. Very disappointing especially with a reservation. It was not overly crowded either. Prices are high. Food is very good. Caesar Salad is one of the best. Crab Bisque is very good. Steak and Cake (Crab Cake) Duet is very tasty. Filet was tender and flavorful. Crab Cake was decent sized with little filler and good. Jacks Bread is also very good. Comes with Olive Oil, Parmesan Cheese and Butter. Everything is Al La Carte so you pay for all your sides in addition to the price of the entree. It was good, but I did not appreciate the wait and basically being ignored. Once the server came to the table, the rest of the meal went well. So, if you want to spurge it is not a bad place to go. The bill will be high. We had reservations here for dinner because we were looking for a nice steakhouse while in town for a trip. When we got there, my son couldn't come in because he wasn't 21. Nowhere do reservations say you must be 21 to enter a steakhouse. The excuse is that since it's at a casino, my 16 year old son could sneak out and gamble. What a crock! First off, for being in a casino it's actually a nice place to eat. Ambience is definitely a first date feel. Super lux and the staff are very friendly. Must have reservations to eat there so check out their site for their online process. Now for the food. The prices are high but for a fancy place setting it's expected. Even though the cost is higher the portion of food is large. Their sides come in a family style so enough to feel 2-4 people on sides. Everything else such as the protein is separate. We got the queens cut prime rib, the filet mignon, and the surf and turf. The prime rib was cooked perfectly! Super tender and flavorful with the light pepper seasoning. The Au ju sauce was nice and not overly salty. The bread that came with it was lack luster and don't taste like anything so i would skip that. The filet mignon was also cooked perfect and tenderly made. Not overly seasoned. The surf and turf was not the best. The lobster tail was slightly over cooked so it was a bit more on the rubbery side rather than buttery soft and flaky. The steak was a bit overdone for our taste as well and this one turned out more salty as well. Tip: when they give the seafood the little yellow sachet is actually lemon and you do not have to unwrap it just s queen and there won't be lemon seeds getting onto your plate. Tip: they also give you a side of clarified butter on a little candle warmer for seafood. For sides we got the Brussel sprouts and the wild mushroom risotto. The brussel sprouts are a must. It was a great side. It was sweet and savory, the sprouts were cooked with a slight bite and not super mushy like most places do. So it was perfect. It has a nice salty bacon bits and the sweet honey sauce was a perfect balance of sweet and salty. The risotto was on their special for the day. It was super flavorful and had a great mushroom umami flavor. But I wouldn't say it was risotto. More so overly cooked and watered rice. Since the "risotto" pasta was actually grains of rice. We had a lot of expectations going into this. Unfortunately the experience didn't deliver. Ambiance 10/10. I will give them that. Very cozy and romantic. Customer service 4/10. The host at the front was not very friendly. The waiter was good but when we tried to talk to him, he wasnt having it and walked away. Not personable at all. Nothing comes free with the meal except water. Bread is $5.95 and comes with a teeny cup of parm cheese,olive oil and butter. Though it was good, the quantity of toppings needed to be more. They were gone after about 3 pieces of bread. 6/10. Sides are alacarte. So we tried the truffle fries. These were 10/10, the best I've ever had. I asked for ketchup and mustard for dipping, and again it came in a bigger cup than the toppings but they filled it only 1/4 of the way if that. My husband got battered shrimp and they were pretty big, so he was satisfied and said it was good. 7/10, tasty but didn't blow his mind. I got the chicken pesto pasta. I love pesto so I was excited, however I was incredibly disappointed. The portion was big but the pasta was overcooked, the sauce wasn't a sauce but a paste. No creaminess at all. It was so pastey. Every time I'd stir it would rip the pasta apart even more than it was. The chicken that came with it had a light crunchy coating but the chicken itself was the driest chicken I ever had. It was simply inedible. I tried one bite and chewed for like 10 minutes,even with water it was tough to swallow. I felt like I'd choke. 1/10 only because the flavor wasn't bad just overall not edible especially for $31 and no sides. We got 2 pieces of cheesecake and it comes with fresh berries and sauce, it was dense and good. It was just what you'd expect out of a piece if cheesecake 8/10. Overall disappointed which is a shame. I ordered surf and turf and the steak was perfect and delicious AND GONE IN 3 bites I had scallops as my "surf" and they didn't bacon wrap them the way they are on the menu which means they kinda "cheapen out" the presentation. Took Dad here for his 83rd birthday. Spent over 230 for 3 people. Now, my steak for the price, was not as tender as I expected. The "Oscar" on top of my steak was just basically flaked crab, hard stalks of asparagus and absolutely did not see nor taste any Bearnaise sauce at all. The Yorkshire pudding, (basically a hollow pastry that you add liquid to, to pretend it's a pudding," with the prime rib, was a cheap addition to justify the price of the smaller cut of prime rib, which was even smaller than the pastry, and since I worked in many places that served prime rib, both as a cook and a server, and I understand the weight is "before" it is cooked my guess is that it is 10 oz, not 12 oz, before cook time, that both my father and my brother got. The pastry was as large as the meat and is worthless in the scheme of trying to look fancier. (Felt like Tiny Tim was behind Dad, saying "God bless us everyone," when throwing something that sounds great but obviously was used to feed people in poverty). Bread was extra, and it was tough and chewy, and not worth the $ 5.95 bucks we were charged for it, so don't get it! The menu boasts the hashbrowns, and yet they said something had been recalled so they didn't have them? At 6 pm. Which makes me wonder The Brussel sprouts and the asparagus, which we asked to please cook longer, and I mean it was emphasized to the waiter, when we first ordered so that dad, who at his age, has a tough time with, could at least chew them, had to be taken back when we got them. Which I know wasn't either told to the cooks, or they ignored the request. But what really interested me was the mashed potatoes being in a smaller bowl which was to be family sized verses the Brussel sprouts bowl, which of course the bowl wasn't full with the sprouts. The mashed potatoes were the one really good thing, so when comparing the bowl it seemed as if we were cheated by putting something that makes no sense when as someone who worked in a restaurant, potatoes in the scheme of things are by far one of the cheapest things to make, and yet, smaller bowl? For 9.95 extra? (And please don't justify that the Brussel sprouts and asparagus were 12.95 each, when we all know the price of both are more costly than the potato is. And to have mashed but not hashbrowns. Sincerely, it's not tough to shred potatoes. The waiter seemed put out to go get Dad a dish of ice cream to celebrate his birthday. You know, like everyone lives to be 83? When he brought it out, he said, "Well this is all you get," cheapening a day that should have been special for Dad, like because it was the only complementary thing, it was such a hardship or a waste of time and energy, to do it. Dad and I have eaten at other ala-carte places, including other casinos. But this was the first time, we really felt the place verses what was advertised, and what we got, just wasn't worth it. And sincerely, I believe Jack Binion's in this case, cut corners, while professing to be something special. Hope Dad lives to be 84 so we can find a better place to eat. The only way I would recommend this place to anyone, is if comps help pay for it and I mean most of it. All in all, it was not at all, what I expected for the price. And we are not hard to please people, but someone needs to ask some questions about the cutting corners and claiming to be one of the best. I would have rather seen a full 12 oz prime rib on Dad's plate without the pitiful pastry, than what he got there. By the way, the few potatoes we split between the three of us, were added to Dad's plate. If you click on the picture you can see the comparison to the fork that Dad is holding. Update**** Talked to the manager today, His name was Chris. He asked why we didn't address the issue there at the restaurant. He said that staff shortages were requiring them to take shortcuts, including getting already peeled potatoes delivered that are cryo packed. Yeah, let's call that fresh shall we. By the way between 6 and the time we left, never saw hair nor hyde of "Chris", walking by the tables asking how service was. They weren't busy at all last night, so where was the manager at all? I understand staffing shortages. I was a manager of a full service restaurant. I tried to explain, it was Dad's birthday, he picked the place, and I didn't want to make Dad upset by over complaining, And he asked me why I didn't call out the lack of Bearnaise sauce on my steak. Well Chris, we were already sending stuff back. It should have been an immediate hint that things weren't right. So, if we really wanted to address it all, it would have been ALL OUR DISHES. We then opted to share the cheese platter which was very nice but it is served with ritz like crackers so you may want to use the fresh bread. Dining at Binion's for restaurant week was a real treat. Look out for the wobbly water glasses though (these will apparently be replaced soon and may even have been by the time of this writing). That being the only misstep though - nothing was spilled even with that challenge - everything else was pitch perfect. From the service to the grub. Started out with an amuse bouche and the wagu carpaccio, with citrus aioli, onion marmalade and an aged parmesan. Good clean flavors on both. The amuse bouche was very unique and I always welcome the opportunity to eat flowers! The chicken fried lobster was crazy good. Unfortunately it was also really hard to capture the majesty and magnitude of this dish in photos! Just imagine... two fried lobster tails delicately balanced atop a sturdy structure of quartered potato wedges - also fried to perfection - with crispy exterior and soft supple potato interior. But back to the lobster... it was FRIED LOBSTER. No need for butter here. Seasoned to perfection and left me wanting more. Though I was already stuffed at this point. So much so that I couldn't finish what I imagine was another whole potato's worth of steak fries. Then the dessert came (cue the Hallelujah singers and clouds opening!) This was hands down one of the most top notch desserts I've had ever. And it was just a sample of what they're capable of? Sign me up for more of that. All in all, this was a real quality meal. Also, the seafood there has not been impressive, although I always say that I should order a steak while eating at a steakhouse. For starters, I ordered the crab bisque. It is so rich and creamy with a little kick of spice. This time, I ordered the fillet, and it was cooked the way that I requested. I was going to order the seasonal side, but even the waiter talked me out of it, stating it wasn't very popular. The hash browns are good, but they needed some seasoning. The sides are all for sharing, so don't order one for each person. For appetizers, we ordered the shrimp cocktail and bacon, which were both delicious. Yummmm! Cooked medium rare as I requested perfectly with char grilled outsides... Once I bit into the 16 oz meat, I knew my mouth was no longer regretting eating another steak in 2 days. JB gets it right on steak - kind of expected, right? I'd rate the food, decor, and service right there with 801 Steak and Chop in Des Moines, Flemings, and other higher-end steak houses. I had the filet and my buddy had the prime rib. Both of us spoke little during dinner. We were too engrossed in the excellent flavor and textures of our meal. We also opted for the "legendary" JB hash browns. What they brought out was an enormous cheesy potato pie. It was delicious, but too much for a table of two. Worst meal I've had out in a very long time! Terrible service! Way, way way over priced! We thought we would go somewhere nice to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. We would've had a better meal at a drive-through burger joint than this crap! We had a 7:15 PM Saturday night reservation and arrive there at 7:05 PM. We were seated right away. The restaurant was about half full if that. After we were seated it took about 10 minutes to get water. That's OK. We waited another 20 minutes for our waiter to come by with menus. He did not ask us if we wanted anything. No drink menu until we asked for one. 5 to 10 minutes later we got a drink menu. Only one for four of us. No biggie. We had to flag the waiter to order after waiting another 15 minutes. For starters, we ordered hot artichoke dip, shrimp cocktail and my friend ordered risotto something. The starters came about 30 or 35 minutes later. The artichoke dip was cold. I will say the shrimp cocktail was good the shrimp are very large. 15 minutes later the waiter brought the artichoke dip back. It looks like they just warmed it up in the microwave instead of giving us a new one. That's just strange! The artichoke dip was tasteless and watery, just awful! I don't think I've ever had worse artichoke dip anywhere. Even buying it in a container at the grocery store is better than this. I was very hungry for a filet and ordered the 6 ounce filet. In this restaurant you don't get anything else just the steak if you want anything else you have to pay extra for it. Another 30 or 40 minutes went by and we finally got our entrées. I cut into the steak and felt like I was eating sand paper! I don't believe this was an actual filet. Where ever they source their meat from I really want to find out and make sure I never buy from that source. I hadn't eaten all day and was very hungry but I did not finish that steak that so-called filet, it was that bad. Since I thought my friend was getting this meal for half price I didn't feel I should send it back. Before we went there I thought my friend was getting half-price since she is a platinum member of the casino. However when we got the bill she said she had to use her points. Unfortunately, the bill was $400 so we still had to pay $200 for a meal that wasn't worth 40. Plus the service was terrible and I think she still tipped for the $400. Binion's is an amazing steak house and a place you should definitely take the time to check out if you are at Horsehoe (a lot). To be honest with you, I really think that 90% of the people who eat here are comped and only end up paying the tip and a little of the bill. The prices are outrageous, even more than the best steak houses I've been to. I mean it is in a casino and it is supposed to be top of the line, but you can go and pay half of what you do for a steak here and get just as good of one at another high end steak house. That being said..... Everything here is a la carte. That means you do not order a steak, baked potato, salad, and a drink as a meal. You order the soup/salad, then the steak, then a side, then dessert if you want. I started out with a mojito and it was very good ,but it was extremely small for the price tag (as was the wine). They also start you out with some bread and butter and olive oil/vinegar for dipping. I ordered the 16oz ribeye and au gratin potatoes. We also had onion rings and filets at our table. I know I said I wouldn't eat here unless comped a huge amount or if someone else paid for it, but this was easily the best steak I've ever had. I've never had a steak I ordered come perfectly how I wanted it (I order my steaks rare). It was just the slightest bit chewy (like rare steaks are) and the fat was minimal but gave the steak amazing flavor. I just can't describe how well they cooked it. Au gratin potatoes were fantastic, maybe a little too much cheese for some people (not me). The onion rings were phenomenal, large and breaded just right, crispy but not hard. The filets were also cooked perfectly how everyone wanted them. Service was outstanding, our waiter, Corey, checked on us repeatedly, service was fast enough for me (though a bit slower than most restaurants) and did a great job of answering questions and telling us about each dish. The only thing we thought was strange was that they had a large table where they placed the orders that were made before the waiters could bring the food to the tables. In restaurants, especially high class restaurants you should not be able to see the kitchen, the cooks, or all of the meals that are being prepared. Made our reservation through Yelp for our sixteenth anniversary dinner. Chateau briand was the fare. Upon arrival we were greeted with "happy anniversary" and escorted to our table. Our waiter Mike came over and took our orders. He was very knowledgeable of their menu and made some tasty sounding selections but we were set on what we wanted....dinner for two prepared at our table. We selected and we're served our wine, the chef came to us with an appetizer, then we enjoyed each others company. Mike returned to our table a short time later and served dinner, and prepared the sauce flam beau, sliced the delicious fillet and served it with flair. Scalloped potatoes, baked tomatoes and asparagus (done perfecly) were also presented. Heaven, pricey, but worth every penny. Oh...and dessert to go..chocolate decadence for two. I really wanted to like this place, but our experience was very disappointing. I started with a martini, which was very good. The bread service was tasteless and forgettable. The french onion soup I had was terrible. My partner referred to it as dishwater. The cheese on top was hard and thin, the broth was tepid. Just awful. My dining partner had a salad that he really liked. Unfortunately, he bit into a small piece of walnut shell and hurt his tooth. My filet was the highlight of the meal, it was cooked medium and was very tender and well seasoned. My partner had the NY strip. He asked for medium, it was brought out medium rare and was very tough. I wish we had read Yelp before going, since another reviewer had a similar issue. We had the hash browns as the side, they were also served barely warm, instead of hot. The portion is huge, but there is nothing special about them. Same thing you would get at any diner, except bigger and colder. The service was friendly. The server accidentally brought me lobster bisque, instead of French onion soup at the beginning of the meal. I figure he was just trying to save me from the terrible French onion soup. Used a Living Social coupon for my birthday. The $48.00 Omaha Steak 12 oz. fillet. was "butterflied" at the suggestion of the waiter...turning it in to overdone dry gray/blackened "hockey puck". NO taste! The sides($8) mushrooms were luke warm & the($8)"au-gratin"? potatoes also luke warm. Was not offered a replacement.. waiter gave me a free desert( really cost me $88.00)as an apology.I am very mad... MOST of all.. navigating thru the" cigarette fog" in the casino to get to the restaurant was disgusting!( HEALTH HAZARD). A "prestige"? restaurant NOT!!! Good service but food was disappointing. Steaks had no seasoning, the $10 "family" size side of asparagus had 6 spears on it. Quality ingredients but not treated well. Very disappointed for the price. Could have gotten a better meal at Texas Roadhouse. read more

Went again for 2013 restaurant week and we were blown away this time. Everything was fantastic from the service to the food. We will definitely return before restaurant week ends and shortly after I am sure. Tonights meal was outstanding. read more

It might have been close to a year since we've had the opportunity to visit one of our favorite Restaurants in Council Bluffs, Iowa. We had a wonderful dinner this evening at Jack Binion's Steak House. Our waitress was Melanie, and she was delightful, engaging and helpful with our selections. The food exceeded our expectations. Our cocktails were superb. An excellent assortment of breads with flavored butter. You won't find Shrimp Cocktail any larger, with a sauce to write home about. Our Steaks were melt in your mouth - prepared to perfection. The wine selection complimented our meal. The sides generous, and we finished off with our meal by sharing a Chocolate Mousse Wafer. Hands down the best meal I've ever eaten. Amazing service and good quality. My only two gripes are the way the sides are served (family style) because you either over order or don't order enough and the prices were a tad outrageous. For our party of four the ticket was close to $400. But if you're looking to splurge and spoil that special someone, this IS THE PLACE! read more
