We were there to celebrate a birthday and while I cannot put my finger on anything specific, I can say that we will not be back there anytime soon. We had drinks form the bar. one standard cocktail and one specialty drink, neither was very special. Food and service are both average. Portions are a bit below normal for Marin standards but still ok. Service is slow yet rushed. By that I mean it took a long time for them to take our order then the food arrived quickly! Our entire dinner last night was hit and miss. The hostess was absolutely lovely. The bussing staff and gentleman delivering our food couldn't have done better. I watched the chefs and cooks on the line, working their backs off. They were amazing. But, our disinterested waitress cast quite the unfortunate energy, vibe..on our table, from start to finish. She had no interest in being there..,.didn't want to be there, at least with us. Her only words were basically... "are you ready to order?"...at each part of service. No welcome words, no suggestions, no, "do you have any questions?" We asked questions, and at least they were answered, with knowledge. The ringer, was, the moment we signed the bill, she returned, and thrust her arm onto the table, right past our heads/right in front of our faces, to grab the bill.... not saying word one to us, as she did this. I thought she was moving in for a face punch. It was alarming. At this point, I have no idea why we left 20%, plus the automatic 4% service fee. I guess it's the hope of this place splitting tips. Others deserved it. At this point, the evening has gotten comical, and we mention to her, her action of grabbing the bill. She said that "they want us to do this, with all our tables." Never thanked us once. We've been to Farm Shop.... about 5 times. This is a new policy, apparently. The food. It was...ok. They are cooking with some of the most incredible, seasonal ingredients on planet earth, but each and every, single dish was way too laden and dripping with oils and fats, and a lot of nuts. It's not the kind of restaurant I'd recommend for folks on a budget, but if you're in the mood to splurge on a deliciously prepared piece of broccoli for $14 or so, then this is the place for you! We ordered a few small dishes to share along with one main (the gnocchi) and the mushroom pizza. The gnocchi was the only dish that disappointed us, as the abundance of black truffles on top didn't translate to delicious bites of food in the way we were expecting/ hoping. I haven't had a proper meal here in a hot minute (bring back the bone marrow, you cowards!). But this is the perfect spot to meet up with girlfriends, have a drink (or three) and some Double 8 gelato (the only ice cream you should be eating). Yes, it's loud, especially on Friday nights, but this way nobody can hear you gossip. I like the cozy backroom and the booths in the bar, but the bar itself is prime people watching. Staff is always lovely, but my favorite bartender is Stephanie, who looks like 2012 Ariana Grande but cuter. After I hemmed and hawed about whether I liked an ingredient on a particular cocktail, she concocted the perfect cocktail, making the $$$ price tag well worth it. read more

Our group of 6 celebrating a birthday had a wonderful time last night. This was my first time here. The interior is beautiful, airy. Our server was exceptional - she was friendly, attentive, knowledgeable about the menu, and readily accommodated our request to keep some items vegan. The other staff were polite, quick to refill our water glasses and clear the plates. The portions aren't large, and you should expect to spend a bit more here, but the quality of food is well worth it. Went there last night for a drink. Sat at the bar, given we came in about 45 mins before closing. My wife ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc and the bartender literally mixed two separate wines together right in front of our faces. I asked why he mixed two separate wines and the gas lighting was unreal. I'm not sure why he didn't just check the bottles. I had to really push back for him to check and see that in fact he did mix two separate wines together. If they can do that in front of our faces, imagine what they do behind the scenes. Finished our wines. Left no tip. Never coming back. For the prices, the workers should be paying a little more attention to what they're doing. And be more curious I would think. read more

However, on a random Friday afternoon, I found myself crossing the Golden Gate en route to the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, and there was that brief bypass interlude where you pass by Larkspur Landing and San Quentin. I just assumed Larkspur Landing would be the more pleasant of the two stops. That's when I found Farmshop. I was immediately drawn to the organic cuisine and artisan trappings starting with the upscale market to the left of the restaurant. It was so Marin. I thought I'd make a takeout order to bring home for dinner for Jamie and me. I have been dying to check out this place and finally made it on a random weekday afternoon. The space is large with different types of seating areas. I opted for the booth seats near the bar. Overall ambiance is on the more upscale side and would make a great date place or girl's brunch spot, but nothing extraordinary among a sea of other similar restaurants in the Marin County area. I decided on the mushroom frittata. It sounded exciting on the menu, but when it came out, I was disappointed to see a flat 1/4 inch thick frittata with a pile of plain arugula on top. The frittata was good but wasn't anything exciting. Tasted like something I could make on my own. I thought the pile of arugula was unnecessary; it was hard to down it and there just wasn't enough frittata to pair with the dry leaves. Eventually I picked some of the greens off at the end so I could enjoy my frittata more. The entrée came with some buttered bread which was really delicious but it kind of felt like a appetite quencher for the skimpy frittata. Price to food quantity and quality ratio was unfavorable in my opinion. Service was good and friendly. Bathroom was clean with premium paper towels. The booth seats could be cleaned better- there were a bunch of crumbs on my seat, but the restaurant generally felt fresh. Overall, maybe my expectations were too high or I just didn't pick a good dish, but I have to admit my experience wasn't as great as I expected. I was excited to try this place since there's such a rave about it. I thought we would have a good experience at least. I reserved a table for my birthday through Open Table which indicates that they only have outdoor seating available for reservations. When I walked in, I saw many people dining indoors. They did not have a table reserved for us and practically just sat us where available (the corner with much sunlight or the corner by the door). The service was very poor. They forgot many things. I had to constantly ask for things. The food was bland and I do not think the quality of food that's served matches the prices. It's definitely closer to us than restaurants in Napa, but I'd rather take the drive to Napa/Sonoma knowing that even if it's Organic the food will not disappoint nor the service. I don't know how many times a waiter looks at you dead in the eye & manage to always go back and forth to other customers and miss you. Pretty location. My boyfriend and I went to grab lunch. I don't drink alcohol so i immediately went to the "zero proof menu" and ordered a drink. The drink came with black salt on the menu and when i got it and it had white salt my boyfriend was curious and asked. The sever said "you guys ordered the drink (whatever the name was)." We said no the one we ordered was the nonalcoholic one with black salt. He immediately turned the blame on us and said something by along the lines of "you should have said the nonalcoholic since there are two drinks with the same name. One with and one without alcohol. That was off putting since 1. I don't drink and had no intention on looking at the alcoholic menu so how would I know they had the same name. And 2. Why put the blame on us when we literally don't work there and don't know otherwise. If you want fussy food that longs to be simple, clean and fresh, this is your place. There must be some quota on nuts and seeds because every dish has some sort of a nut or seed in it. Pizza dough was under done and raw in the center. Other dishes are overly complicated with ingredients that don't allow the main focus to shine through and speak for itself. Service was slow. Got the first course before I even got my iced tea even after asking about the iced tea twice. The walls with the blown up photos is busy and dizzying to look at. The antique lighting hanging from the ceiling by ropes are covered in what looks to be gigantic dust bunnies. I suppose that would just be one more ingredient to fall into your plate in an otherwise already overly complicated dish. No plans to ever return. There are better restaurants in the area that deserve attention. The experience was lacking from the greeter at the door to the waitress at the table. My wife and I, after we sat for 10-15 minutes, had to flag someone down to get a drink, and it arrived before the waiter finally came by. He took our order and then never came by again. Someone else brought our food, and then no one, including this waiter, never came by to check. At the end of the meal, a different waiter finally came by and asked how everything was. At that point, we just wanted the check.
