If I could give them a zero rating I would! The burger was completely undone in the middle. I asked for the hamburger to be well done and it is brown on the outer portion and completely pink inside. I took a big bite out of the sandwich and saw the pink inners and immediately spit it out. I called the restaurant a lady answered named Wendy. She placed me on hold for an extensive period of time. Finally, a lady named Amanda got on the phone to tell me that she couldn't refund my money and they do not do refunds except by gift card. She was offered to give me $20 on a gift card in place of the charge card purchase of $18.42. I explained I had no intention of returning after such a horrific first experience. For me personally, biting into a raw burger is like literally trying to take a bite out of the cow. I'm totally grossed out! Once I expressed my dismay with this process Amanda said she would call me back after she spoke to her Manager who was in a meeting until 4:30 p.m.. I waited to see if she would give me money back before posting this but here it is 8 p.m. and I haven't heard from Amanda or her Manager so I'm out of $18.42 and famished because I haven't had eaten breakfast and now I'm out of luck on lunch as well. I told her my refund that Amanda never called me back at 4:30 regarding as she said that she would. I thanked her. but reiterated numerous times that they didn't have to do that I wanted the establishment to be held accountable for peddling raw food. They were unyielding. Nestled in one of the most vibrant areas of the core of Indianapolis, Fat Dan's Deli appears to be doing quite will with this particular location. I was in the mood for something hearty on my way to rehearsal, so after a good long look at the easy to navigate menu and a few clicks on their online ordering service, the anticipation of the East Coast Submarine was kicking in. Upon arrival, on the easier side of the street parking wise, it was just a few easy exchanges and I was on my way. While I ordered the sammitch to go, I could really see spending some time in the space, as it appeared to be casual and inviting. Wow, that sub. A dynamic blend of ham, capicola, salami, provolone, lettuce, tomato and a perfect amount of oil & vinegar and oregano. In it's category, of of the best I've had in a long time. Were I to return, I would probably have it Al Capone style, their moniker for a hot sandwich. Mass Ave does it again. This place is awesome. There is metered street parking available or you may be able to find a free spot in a nearby neighborhood, if you feel like walking a bit. They have a fun menu full of tasty food. They have indoor and patio seating available and they have sectional garage doors that can raised up to open up the indoor seating and let in tons of fresh air. Patio seating, where I set up camp, is pet friendly. Someone had their pooch with them while I was there. The staff there is very friendly, funny and attentive. Fred is the man. The restaurant has a full bar and beer specials. There are televisions at the bar where you can catch your team while you drink and/or eat. I ordered the NY Fat and got a side of fries. It did bot take long for my food to be prepared. They bring it out on paper, not a tray, which was awesomely odd. It worked. The sandwich was as delicious as it was unique. It is what you get if a pastrami sandwich and a burger had a baby. The burger is huge. It dwarfed the bun. The sandwich came with potato chips, but I had to get some fries too. The fries are fresh cut and perfectly seasoned. And you get a ton of them. They were delicious like the burger. I am glad I got an extra side of them. I cannot say enough about this place. This is a great casual spot to grab drinks! They have garage doors that stay open on nice days and a decently sized patio for downtown. The beer selection is great! We ordered the loaded fries & they do not skimp on the toppings!! The wings were super smoky and flavorful, however I prefer mine tossed in the sauce. My only disappointment about the wings is not having any ranch available to dip in, as they do not have it available. There were actually 2 bartenders standing RIGHT in front of us.. neither of them said a thing. another bartender came out and asked if we were waiting on drinks and i let her know we had been waiting on service in general. there was not more than 3 other tables and one large party who were entertaining themselves playing a game. we ordered 10smoked wings cooked a bit longer and tots with cheese. they came out right away as their smoked food is prepared ahead of time. the food comes served in boats on paper. the boats could be bigger as it barely held my 5 wings. i thought the food was just okay. i wasn't wow'ed or amazed and honestly it's shocking since people rave about their food (wings). they were cooked perfectly falling off the bone and still crispy. i would go back if i was nearby to grab food and i think the price was reasonable. $16 for 5 wings, an ale and my half share of the tots. the music they had playing was good. the poor service is dragging this review down. read more

Updating my aug 2018 review ... same rating of stars but I tried new things .. the burger flight. How fun! Had the Wells St, the Fat Frenchie and the Fat Havana. All tasty. This is a short and sweet review for our Super Bowl carryout experience at Fat Dan's Deli. I'd been craving their smoked jumbo wings for quite some time and decided super bowl was a good excise to order them (as if we needed an excuse). If you're not familiar with Fat Dan's, this particular location has a fabulous patio, sports bar vibe and is known for their smoked meats, loaded tots and range of local beers on tap. I tried calling four times to place the order ahead of time and couldn't get through or find online ordering on their site so we drove down to place the order and roll out with wings. They were as flavorful as I remember. I have to admit that half the fun is enjoying these wings gathered with friends and a drink so I look forward to when those times return. Fat Dan's is one of my most-visited restaurants downtown -- and for good reason. I have yet to have wings in Indianapolis that are as good as theirs. The wings are smoked and come so hot, fresh, and they literally fall off the bone. I've tried them with both the hot bbq and regular bbq sauce. But they're so good and they don't even need sauce . I will put these wings up against any place in the city. As for the tater tots -- they're always on point. Crispy on the outside, yet nice and soft on the inside. Fat Dan's also has a rotating menu of local and regional beers as well as cans and bottles of all other popular beers and seltzer's. Tonight, I had a pear cider and it was 10/10. When you walk in, it's like you're walking into a bar right around the corner from Wrigley field. Fat Dan's is a fantastic place with great options and may locations; I think there is one in broadripple and Carmel, but the one I go to is downtown on Mass Ave. I will say this is my favorite place in Indy for a delicious burger, my personal favorites are the wake and bake that has a fried egg, bacon, and tater tots and the flat Daniel which is a perfect double cheeseburger. In addition to having the best burgers in the city, they also have the best French fries in my opinion; which are hand cut and perfectly cooked every time. I also have had the wings and some other sandwiches and they never disappoint. If you're wanting an appetizer I would suggest the "slutty tots" which is the "dirty tots" but with Mac n cheese added to it too!
