I'm a little bit disappointed with this place and let me tell you why. Their prices on the current menu do not reflect their actual prices. They did tell me that the prices were a little bit higher, but it was at about $4 per roll. They made is seem smaller. The price of a roll went from about $9 to $13/$14. I found it to be a little dishonest since I spend about $70 when I expected it to be closer to ~$55. I get that they needed to raise their prices, but the menus are seriously out of date and they can be reprinted. The menu is the type that a piece of paper just goes into the sleeve. Next thing I did not personally like was the way the manager (or owner, I'm not sure which) treated guests and spoke to employees especially directly in front of customers. A guest had asked for a to go box. He actually had to walk up to the front counter from his table to ask for one. The manager just pointed to a table full of them in their prep area, no smile, no words, and didn't get the box for him. Just not the type of customer service that I would like to receive. Then when I grabbed my order, I showed the receipt I was given and said I'm here to pick up my order. He asked if I paid for it, my receipt was in my hand presented to him, I said yes. As I grabbed my order and walked to go out the door, I heard him not kindly tell the two people working the cashiers that they need to write "paid" on the orders. Obviously, yes makes sense. It's just the way he said it to them and directly in front of several customers. Mind you, all of these interaction were with no smile from him, almost a full frown, no positive vibes, so I think that's where my distaste is coming from. The person that actually took my order was great, she was very nice. This place looks out of date inside. Their menus are out of date. It kind of looks like a fast food sushi place. And it's in a industrial area which was a bit odd, but not important. Now the important part (I guess lol): the sushi itself. The quality and taste was average. It tasted good, fresh, but nothing out of the ordinary. You are required to pay and Tip before you sit down to eat. However, after I Tipped them 20% as always, I sat down to eat, finished my meal and all throughout this time there were No Services here. No-one offered me any Hot Tea Refill. Other customers just went upfront to refill their Soda, no-one came to ask me if the food was good or offered me a box to take the remaining food home. I would guess after they received their Tip upfront there would be little to No incentives to offer you good service. Why bother Right? However, the food here is always Good and wait time is always reasonable. I just hope that they do not feel as if they are entitled to the Gratuity, and I am saying this because I have worked in a Steakhouse for 20 years myself. I had just finished up a paint party & I see that Fat Fish Sushi was really nearby so I stopped there to order two rolls to go for dinner. I ordered the Red Lion & Volcano, but instead I got the Red Lion & what seems like a Dragon Roll. I didn't go back since I had already left the place. The rolls were okay. I decided to stop by for a quick dinner fix, I ordered a Chirashi bowl expecting it to cost me over $20 bucks but no, it was around $17(before taxes), it had 18 pieces of fish AND it came with a Miso soup. Not only the freshness of the fish, but also the proportions, were just spectacular. It most definitely does the store name justice. Food Two ways of looking at this place, yes the sushi is mediocre. But for the price of all the items on its menu, its spectacular for what it is. I ordered a spicy tuna roll and a poki roll (seaweed salad over spicy tuna). They definently do not skimp out on the size of the roll. Both were good. They give a generous amount of wasabi and ginger with every order as well. Atmosphere A great spot to grab and go. But also a great spot to sit down. Its quite spacious, they prepare the food really fast and hand it off to the table, so you don't even have to move yourself to the front to pick it up. A great lunch spot in the middle of the work day for sure. Service Staff is super friendly- I did not feel rushed in any way. Even with the crowded parking lot, when they see people circling around, they'll come outside and tell the drivers that they're allowed to park on the sidewalk. read more

Horrible service at peak hour, long wait for food, and expensive price for the quality of food. They are extremely short staffed for serving as only the owner's family works at the front. As such, tables were pretty dirty nor was offered any beverage for like 20 minutes. Shari (rice) quality is horrible although neta (fish) quality is OK and generous amount. Nothing was amazing but all in all the price and food was generally decent. It's a cheap fix for a craving for local sushi. We will be back but likely for take out. Fat Fish is a solid sushi spot, but nothing special, especially for the area. There are a lot of local restaurants that are better. The best of the rolls we ordered was the Lion King. I will say, all of the rolls were fatter than usual -- perhaps the genesis of the name? In short, I wouldn't go out of my way to order here again. I was in the area and craving sushi, and was surprised to find a Fat Fish in the area, so I decided to check this location out, since I had been to the Fat Fish in San Leandro, While Fat Fish in SL is not the best sushi spot or the most quality sushi, it is the best bang for your buck when you want to make a cheap and quick sushi stop. I thought this location would be similar if not better. I ordered my usual salmon nigiri and salmon roll. The price was good, while the quality was pretty bad, but you usually get what you pay for. On top of that, they were not as accommodating with changes or substitutions to certain combos like how the SL location was. Also, they are bigger/more spacious compared to SL and not as busy from what I noted, but the service was still slower than SL. read more

Love this place. You order and sit down. Food takes a while to come out but it's worth the wait. Prices are very reasonable compared to the other locations in the area. I typically order the fried rolls and the baked ones only because I like the cooked sushi rolls a little better. This last visit I choose to try something a little different. I think it was called the tempura roll. It had shrimp tempura in the middle but everything else was fresh and not hot. It was a perfect balance and made me regret I didn't order double on that one. The sushi and Bento boxes we tried were good. Sushi rice is freshly made and soft in texture. Price is also reasonable. We love the bento boxes as we can get two items with reasonable price. Friendly service. Staffs at counter are high schoolers but efficient and nice. If you are nut allergies, please be careful. Their salad dressing is made from nut products. We didn't know the first time we were there. We asked the waiter and he mentioned no nuts when the food was served. My daughter tried the salad. Shortly, she threw up and didn't feel good for hours. It was a good thing she tried little first. I wish they take things more seriously when we inquired. Nut allergies is a serious thing that will result to breathing problem, which needs to be treated with epiPen injection right away. We got lucky that my daughter's severity is one notch down and she tried a little first when there was doubt. She could have experienced gasping for air if she had a mouthful of that salad. Although the recent time we went there, we did notice a sign displayed for nut allergies at the cashier counter. I am not sure if the sign was already there before or after the incident. Glad to see they have that notice up for sure. We do like the salad with exception of our kids allergies. Thus, we requested to provide salad dressing on the side for our take out to avoid possible cross contamination with other items. We appreciate if the owner trains their staff to be more sensitive and careful when such request being made. In terms of ambiance, the place is just an ordinary casual cafe. It is a bit outdated. There is a section for family dining or even group of friends. As you can tell, despite of nut allergy experience, we still come here as we like the food. We just take extra caution. Was craving sushi one day with my girlfriend while shopping at Livermore Outlets and since she grew up in the area she was telling me about this place. We pulled up and looked really basic from outside but you could tell it had to be good with the amount of people inside or waiting outside. Finally got inside and there is a huge menu of a ton of rolls to choose from, which for me was the only thing a little different to me, since you had to choose and order/pay then sit down. Wasn't used to this for a sushi restaurant. After ordering and sitting down not much longer we get our food. We had so many rolls I cannot remember them all but one I remember specifically was the Veggie King roll, veggie tempura inside and seaweed salad on top. This was one of the best veggie rolls I have ever had and ended up ordering a second one. I ordered the following Sashimi 8 pcs 3 salmon slices 3 tuna slices and 2 yellowtail slices . the fish was fresh and firm. Amazon roll spicy tuna and tempura shrimp filling with albacore and imitation crab topping. To go Spicy tuna roll Tiger roll shrimp tempura and crab filling. Fat Fish's layout is similar to a fast food restaurant. First, you order at the counter and then the cashier will hand you a number to place on your table. Service is minimal but the prices are cheaper than most Japanese restaurants in the area. I come here quite often for lunch because of the price and portion. You can get a big bowl of chicken teriyaki for $7. Occasionally, I can't even finish it and it becomes my lunch and dinner. Most rolls cost around $8 to $10 which is very reasonable. I usually go with the rolls that includes salmon like the Super Philly or the 49ers roll. Other rolls with cooked eel and imitation crab are decent as well. The location of the restaurant is kind of random. Fat Fish is hidden between an apartment complex and other industrial businesses. The parking lot can fill up quickly during lunch hour and there are minimal street parking. I suggest arriving around 11:30-11:45 if you want a parking spot closer to the restaurant. read more

There is a lot if parking so that is something you don't have to worry about. Ordering is quick and easy. You can go up to the counter and place your order with the very nice and friend server and she will ask if it's for here or togo. I usually go for dine in however if you do just grab your number and find an open table. Then they will bring out your food. I love to get the sashimi, 49ner roll, bay scallops, or the black dragon roll. I love how fresh it is and also how affordable everything is. I recall their pints and pitchers of beer were pretty cheap as well. -Sometimes the lines can get a little long, but I never had a terribly long wait the few times I've been there. -Environment borders between fast food and a sit down restaurant. You order at the counter, pay, and find a place to sit. They will then bring your food to you. The ambiance isn't quite formal restaurant-ish, but more casual. -Food quality is decent; I would rank it better than the sushi I've had at some AYCE sushi spots.
