Fabulous place. Great owner. This was earlier this year before a three day holiday and they were closing and taking the staff on a camping trip (if I remember correctly). That's pretty darn cool. I am visiting Brookings. I can't believe how great the food was. I order the fish and chips , cheese curds and chicken wings . The fish and chips , hot crunchy outside with a flaky inside. Perfectly cooked. The service was on point , I shared the fish and chip dinner . The waiter brought out a second plate for us . They had two different kinds of cheese and hot and cheddar . The waiter let us do half and half so we could try both. The hot wings , baked and fried . The only way to make a great wing . But the biggest surprise came at the end . I was celebrating my birthday. I couldn't believe they brought me out a cupcake (delicious) and everyone sang happy birthday to me. The staff and the other customers. We stop at this restaurant about 2 years ago and was quite good so during our trip back Brookings Oregon we decided to revisit. The food quality has unfortunately gone down hill. I had the Ruben and when my sandwich arrived the toast was actually very burnt. I did not make a fuss but very surprised they would even serve it this way. My wife had the fish and chips and was just so so. Our waiter was great and our drinks were delicious. Hopefully they were having a bad day and will try again when we return in the spring of 2025. read more

What a gem!!!! Didn't expect an Irish bar to be family friendly but I overlooked that! The service was top notch. We sat at the bar and the bar tender was quite a comedian. We tried this placed based on reviews and we've seen this place before. Food and service were amazing! We got there at about 5:15 and we were luck to find a parking place. We were placed on the wait list and we were told the wait would be 30 minutes but were seated in 10. FYI the bar seating also uses the wait list. Emma was the bar tender and also took our food order. She was friendly and engaging with a sense of humor. It was Taco Tuesday so my hubby had fish tacos. I love stew so I had the Irish stew in the bread bowl. One of Brookings best places for great food, drink and service. Their Bottoms Up tap system blew my mind... I've been to plenty of breweries and have yet to see it! Brian, our bartender and server, was super personable and friendly, great wit and conversation... a must for a successful pub like this. Jalapeño steamer clams is a must... spicy, succulent w a great broth and bread to soak it up-NOM NOM goodness! It's rare that I give the 5 star on the 1st visit... but I'm confident the awesome service, food and drink we got was not a fluke or one off. Every time we are in Harbor, we've enjoyed the Fat Irish since it first opened. Last night, we tried the regular fried cheese curds for the first time. They also offer a habanero style, but even the regular has some heat. Definitely recommend them. The larger dinner salad was a good size, and the Irish Red Beer was excellent. We thought the English style Clam Chowder was tasty, but a little too thick. Otherwise, we thoroughly enjoyed the food, beverages, and the service which was excellent. read more

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly Wanted to love this place, the hubs always is wanting fish and chips. The Good Had the calypso coffee which was an Irish coffee with a twist and it was really good The Bad The service was lacking. We were told an hour to wait which was totally fine but what annoyed me so the guy who took ky name was annoyed to even be there. Then he came and got me 10 min later with the same attitude. A friend recommended this place because of the jalapeño steamer clams. She had no idea steamer clams are my weakness. If you like beer, people watching and good food; this is your quiet gem. Service was wonderful! They do have a weird thing where they close the kitchen during shift change around 2:30 in the afternoon but you can sit and have drinks while you wait. Great drinks, great service, and great food! The cutest little Irish themed pub, with excellent decor (shamrock fire pit? So cute!) and surprisingly good food. Also, they allow dogs on the patio and even have a cupcake that gives proceeds to a shelter (I think humane society, but don't quote me on that). We started with the Savage fries and the fried cheese curds. The cheese curds were just lightly fried, not too heavy at all. They came with a chili sauce and ranch, I dipped in both - good combo. For entrees, we did then turkey club with chowder and the bangers and mash. My husband polished off the bangers and mash without giving me a bite so I'll assume they were good. The chowder was excellent for me - not too much clam, and nice creamy flavor with chunks of potato. The club was excellent too, crunchy bread and lots of fixings - even the half sandwich was a nice big portion that I didn't fully finish. Tammy, our server, was so sweet and personable, she made our experience the best! She was quick to bring things out to us, and she gave wonderful recommendations. We really enjoyed the drinks here too - the cocktails are delicious but definitely alcoholic. I had two of the lifted kilts and was feeling good! Highly recommend eating here, whether you're just passing through or close enough to come often. What a fun place! read more

My dad said that it was the best Reuben he's ever had!! The fish & chips were good, the breading was good but a little soggy! They make their drinks extremely strong...must be an Irish this lol! I was driving up from SF and stopped here for the first time for brunch. Great staff, fair ambiance, great food and super busy! Lively atmosphere with elevated food plus standard pub grub. Somehow my Euro scramble order didn't make it into the system so I waited quite awhile until the woman who ordered the same thing 10 minutes after me received her meal. I simply asked the lovely bartender (she was VERY busy and totally on top of things) to check on it and they expedited it without fuss. They even discounted my meal, to which I tipped 300% on. We've lived in the northwest for a couple years and went out of our way to find the best clam chowder...we just found it! We seriously considered ordering some to take home. Peter killed it and was so accommodating, attentive, helpful, and gave us some great local insight for Brookings. If I owned a local business I would lure him away. The calamari was tender, fresh, and fried just right. Fish tacos were really good, with just enough kick. The Reuben was good, not the best, but no complaints. Their brunch sounds awesome and we're going to try to catch it before we leave here. The restaurant itself is in a great location and has that welcoming pub feel with indoor and outdoor seating. Very disappointed went there for St. Patrick's Day every year we go there on our anniversary . They had one man band and it was terrible. He played slow songs no action no excitement.
