If you're a cheesesteak fan and you happen to see a sign that says "The Best Philly Cheese Steak," you've got to stop and see if it lives up to the name. I did, and this one absolutely was telling the truth! I was only in the mood for a half sandwich, and for about $9 it was an easy choice. The first thing I noticed was how packed it was with thinly sliced steak, grilled onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, and lots of melted provolone cheese. Everything came off the grill hot, steaming and fresh, and every bite was loaded. One thing I thought was interesting was they asked if I wanted lettuce and tomatoes on it. That's not something you normally hear when ordering a Philly cheesesteak, but I decided to try the tomatoes. It actually gave the sandwich a different texture and a little freshness that worked better than I expected. The bread was soft and held everything together, and there was plenty of melted cheese mixed throughout the steak, and exactly how a loaded cheesesteak should be. This is one of those sandwiches where you keep taking bites because every bite is just as good as the last. If the half was this filling, I can only imagine how big the full size is. Stopped in for lunch and had a small crowd, which is always a good sign. Interesting menu, burger spot run by an Asian family so they have teriyaki menu (yum). I got the cheesesteak with cheese, onions, and mayo. Bread and cheese were good but the onions were barely cooked and the steak is 100% a cheap cut. It's extremely bland, almost no flavor. I had to apply a good amount of salt on this sub. That said, I ate the whole thing and was satisfied but I think Victor Jrs in Culver makes a far superior cheesesteak. I do like this place but you pretty much get what you see. I'll be back to try the chicken teriyaki sub. read more

Parking is crazy! It's a bit of a dive - which is not a problem as long as they have passing grades. Few tables w/ mismatched tables and chairs. This is a GREASY SPOON - so consider that before you enter the doors. I ordered the Italian Combo - added jalapeños. The food didn't take long. As I got it to go - I took it and left. I am not sure what I was expecting from this little hole-in-the-wall spot run by an Asian family but, it wasn't what I got. I figured the sandwich would be okay. But it wasn't okay - it was pretty friggin good!!! WTF!? The Italian dressing used wasn't too oregano-y, as many usually are. The bread was soooo good and perfect. The deli meats were fresh. The entire sandwich was really really good and reminded me of mom and pop pizza spots back east. I don't know what anything else tastes like here but, I'm guessing pretty friggin good. I'm always on the lookout for basic sandwich spots. The reviews looked pretty good and I was in the area so I thought I'd give it a try. They seemed to focus on the Philly steak sandwich. It comes with lettuce and tomato, which I probably should have skipped because they seemed a bit out of place. The sandwich was pretty good... The steak could've had more flavor, but the bun was good. Fries were OK as well What I liked best was that this is a small, Mom and pop place complete with handwritten signs and a note that you can only get one refill of a fountain drink before you get charged lol It looks like an older husband and wife doing everything and they were polite, and the food came out promptly. Nice to have a shop that isn't corporate. Challenging parking, but I found something in the residential neighborhood a few blocks away. read more

This has to be one of Westchester's hidden gem. The food here is amazing. After finding this on Yelp, I decided to try it. To my surprise, when I walked in, I was greeted by the owners. They're a mom and pop Korean couple, but it looks like they become accustomed to making great philly cheesesteak sandwiches. I ended up ordering the Western Bacon Cheeseburger combo, and it was delicious. The onion rings were crunchy, the bacon was crispy, the cheese melted and was nice and gooey. The fries were seasoned well. The burger was still hot, I can see steam coming out with every bite. Not only does this serve good food, they also sell lotto tickets and scratchers! Next time you're in Westchester ordering wonderful food, grab a lotto ticket for a change to hit the jackpot as well. I'm keeping this place in mind and will have to add it to my restaurants on rotation. read more

It's a neighborhood icon and it would be a crying shame if we don't support it ! I worked here as a teenager back in the early 70's with my best friend, Yolanda. The founder & owner was Richard Muese. He served in the US Navy as a cook and brought his kitchen skills and love for food to create the menu at The Submariner. During its heyday we had lunch and dinner rushes with long lines. We served employees of Teledyne and other thriving businesses in the area. Still on the menu and delicious are the Phili Cheese steak sandwiches and combination subs. Anybody remember Mago's Hamburgers down the street? It's now Casa Sánchez. My sister worked there and we would exchange sandwiches for some of their speciality dishes like cha-shu & rice plate and teriyaki tacos! I ordered a PHILLY CHEESE STEAK not a chopped cheese, you don't even have a chopped cheese on your menus but that's what your serving. You swapped out the ground beef for steak put lettuce and tomato on it. Just because there's steak doesn't make it a PHILLY CHEESE STEAK. You don't even know what sandwich you're serving. This is a quiet cute little spot with great customer service and would get a 5 star if not for what I ordered This is for my Philly folks, they'll truly understand what I'm about to write. This place advertises the best Philly cheesesteak around. I feel pretty confident when I say those who have that opinion either are not from Philly and have never had an authentic Philly cheesesteak. Don't get me wrong, it was a delicious cheesesteak. But it's not a "Philly cheesesteak" As any Philadelphian knows you can smell Philly cheesesteak outside anyplace it's cooked, it's made with a very specific type of steak, so it has a very specific smell so I should have known before I walked in that it wasn't authentic Philly because I could Not smell it after parking so close to the door. But I've seen reviews and wanted to see for myself if I could get an authentic Philly cheesesteak in my neighborhood instead of having to drive to Torrance to Phillysbest where you are guaranteed to get everything that's authentic to Philly since everything is shipped straight from Philly. To me, it's always looked like a dying restaurant that has been there since the 1950's because it just isn't that pretty from the outside. The Philly cheesesteak and chicken cheesesteak were pretty legit!! Hot and fresh with delicious melty gooey cheese (And I'm a NY/NJ/PA girl so I know!!) and the crinkle cut fries were so delicious they tasted like they had that Red Robin crack-type seasoning sprinkled on them!! This is a local dive worth diving into! Vast menu of options with reasonable prices, you can take a seat to dine in or you can take out. Have been passing by this location for years and finally decided to give it a try. We ordered steak sandwiches and onion rings with fountain drinks. The price was fair - though, admittedly, I'm in massive sticker shock everywhere. Our total was $34.00 - the large fountain drinks included one refill each, the onion rings were about a half dozen rings and then the 2 steak sandwiches - one with cheese, one without. All of the food was tasty. The preparation was fast, and the food served very hot. The service was friendly - and as such a small location, I suspect it was the owners running the show. I grew up here and use to come here. I've been gone for about 35 years and found Submariner still open. Stopped in and grabbed a Philly cheese steak. It was good but they use mozzarella cheese. id prefer white cheddar or provolone. I stopped there again, yesterday, on my way home and grabbed a bacon cheese burger. It was very good. This a great neighborhood burger joint. We usually get the jalapeno bacon burger and the pastrami burger. These burgers are hefty and packed with flavor. Their fries are nicely crispy and not soggy sad things. Their menu is pretty extensive, but definitely come for the burgers. read more
