Burger came out in good presentation, all my classic toppings looked right, the Root Beer Float came out ice cream heavy and foamy, and it came to my table with a smile. So I'm driving to my optometrist's office to get my much needed new pair of glasses and I am stopped at the signal in front of this here Fatburger. I look over and see a teensy tiny little old lady and what I would guess was either her 40ish year old son or Go Granny on your hot young lover! The two are sitting there chatting and then Grandma picks up a HUUUGE burger and starts chowing down! The first Fatburger I ever went to, back in 1997. Also met the late Russell Jones aka ODB "Ol' Dirty Bastard or Dirt McGirt or Big Baby Jesus, Chef Raekwon, Rza, and Method Man at this joint. They just busted in here flowing mad Wu-Tang beats. Russell Jones was singing with his falsetto. He had a great voice. He ordered an original Fatburger like this, "Hey yo...throw me up a Fatburger....and put some tabasco in that muthaf&#!" I went up to him and said, "Hey, are you...." He stopped me, then he pulled up his shirt and said," you mean him.....?.." I saw his tattoos. Ol Dirty Bastard. Cool place. That was pretty sick. I really like all their burgers. Huge patty. When I heard KAnye West was opening up a chain of Fatburgers in Chicago I nearly jumped for joy! being a L.A. native I miss Fatburger and the other place(I.N.O) when I moved to Chicago. 2 stars cuz the food was decent and the staff was nice. But the place needs a real good clean up and remodeling. The food is overpriced too. Atleast if we pay $40 for 2 impossible burger meals the place should look decent. Mold, graffiti, run down. It really looks like a POS. Which is sad for Sherman oaks. This place is definitely the "Last Great Hamburger Stand". I've been here many times and I feel like they beat In-N-Out. These burgers are delicious and have their own signature taste! 100% pure lean beef? It can't get any better than that. I've had the beef,chicken, and turkey burgers and they are all delicious. You can customize you're burger by adding cheese, bacon, chili, and even eggs! I love that they give you a choice between fat fries and skinny fries. I like to think that the skinny fries keeps you skinnier ;), but I like to change it up each time I go (or i just steal from my friends and order the opposite of them ;). I hate to give my beloved Fatburger only two stars, after experiencing Fatburger my entire adult life. But some things are unacceptable: * Fatburger management: Please teach your employees how to properly handle food. Handling money and the bacteria-laden register, then handling even dirtier full trash bags is fine IF the employee washes her hands after (or puts on gloves) before handling the food. But to NOT do that and then to handle condiments on MY food (including using dirty fingers to push my food back into the box) is UNSANITARY and in today's world, risky. Not to mention just plain GROSS. (To be fair, she did wipe her hands on a fresh trash bag. Just as good as sanitizing, right?) * Prices: I just paid $4.00 for a tiny little hot dog of no particular quality. Compare this to $1.50 at Costco for a gigantic dog with soda or $3 for an all-beef dog at Wienerschnitzel. The prices at this place have been getting ridiculous for years, but now they are insane. $4.25 for a milkshake????? I know it's no longer Fatburger of my young adulthood, where the chili cheese fries were under $3 and spilled all over the place without precise portion control. (yeah!!!) late night move last night resulted in late night Fatburger run. Didn't even know about this location but my roommate found it on his smart phone. Pretty good service. The guys working there didn't mess anything up. It took a little longer than I expected but Fatburger is worth the wait. This Locaiton is open 24 hours, I think there is one other 24 hour Fatburger in the area. This is really great food to eat around 1 or 2 in the morning. read more

No matter what, as long as they offer "On the Char" I will always prefer Fat Burger over In N Out! That's the best advice I can offer. On the Char!!! Everything they offer on the menu is great, except for the veggie burger, I wouldn't know about that! *** Pit stop review (Sherman Oaks) *** I've passed by Fatburger's all of the time, but I never ate at one. To be honest the only reason I ate at this Fatburger was because my truck could fit into a parking space. I mean it barely fit. My truck went over the line for my stall about three inches (ha ha ha). Looking through the menu it became easy to make my menu selection. The regular Fatburger comes with relish (no me gusto) and mustard (no me gusto). In this case a double negative certainly doesn't make a positive. So I turned my attention to the Western Bacon Burger. How can I go wrong with a patty of beef and bacon, right? Here's what I liked... * The burger patty was nice and big. The burger tasted really good. It didn't taste like the usual frozen patty. Every bite was nice and juicy with a crunch of bacon. * The young lady at the register was particularly friendly. * Parking was easy to get in. Here's what I didn't like... * Since Fatburger is kind of like a chain I expect it to have a newer/fresher look. The place has a dive kind of feel. It just needs a little more TLC. * I was able to get in, but all these little cars like parking sooooo close to me. I was boxed-in. It took a few times going forward and backwards before being able to get out of my space. Bottom line... This is a good place to pull over and get a tasty burger if that's what you're in the mood for. If you're driving a larger full size lifted truck, this may be the only place you can pull over to get a bite to eat if you're in the area :-) ha ha ha. Waited almost 30+ mins to get 1 burger and 1 orders of fries and a small shake. No other customers were here and it still took so long. The lady making burgers was only using one glove and handling the burgers and food with her other bare hand. Terrible customer service and a dirty falling apart location. If you live in LA and like burgers (not sure who this wouldn't describe, save a select few), chances are you've been to one Fatburger or another. I've had friends tell me the Sherman Oaks location is actually the best Fatburger they've been to, but while good, I can't say it is any different than any other location. Their burgers are large and relatively inexpensive, onion rings are good, fries are decent (two types offered, I usually opt for the skinny), and the milkshakes are good. Local stands are still the best bets for burgers though, but unfortunately Sherman Oaks is a little lacking in that area so this Fatburger may be your best option. read more

Anyway, I have to give a hats-off to this fatburger because they indulged my craziness for having to have my foods separated - hence my moniker as a Food Separatist. I just don't like chili-sogged fries! Is that so wrong?! So, when I ordered the chili-cheese fries (delish, of course- but you already knew that!), I tried to explain - first, to the ample-breasted old lady at the order counter that I wanted the chili separated from the fries, and then to the younger fryer-guy that yes, I wanted cheese and chili, but I wanted them separated from the fries... clearly there was a miscommunicaayyy... Because - (bless their hearts!) - when I opened my to-go bag at home, each little part had been separated from the other in little salad dressing containers... cheese... separate from the chili... separate from the onions... separate from the fries.... you get the picture. It was a great effort! I admit my request was a little on the wacky side... so "A" for effort! This is definitely my favorite burger in Los Angeles. In N Out is okay, but if you really want a great---ENORMOUS, GREASE SOAKED BURGER---order a double King Burger here with bacon and jalapenos and everything on it. This is my fave old school location since I used to eat here about once a week when I worked across the street. I've been craving Fatburger for the last two months. I was shopping in Burbank and thought I'd stop at the Fatburger on San Fernando for a Fatburger and a chocolate shake...only to learn that location had closed! A sad, sad day, my friends. I like this Fatburger ( and the location on Santa Monica Blvd.) the most. The burgers here are really consistently good and I never have to wait too long for my food to come up.I have had mediocre experiences with the chili from other locations but this is the spot. The staff is also really nice when I order something ridiculous like King w/ 2 eggs over easy, chili, cheese, grilled onions and all the fixings. I also like the proximity of this location to all the great little shops in that part or Sherman Oaks (Iguana, American Vintage) For those of us who love burgers, we all know what Fatburger tastes like. 5 star customer service, bravo. I can't travel everywhere to pick up orders because I have a newborn, so I use services like Uber. My Uber driver brought the order in fatburgers to-go bag. While I was walking back to my unit, the cheap recycled paper bag ripped, spilling the French fries and burger over the floor. My Uber driver was generous enough to offer to go back and get us new french fries... So while he was driving to the location, he called the location to make sure he can exchange the fries, the Manager said he would not honor the exchange (kind of rediculous, what kind of franchise treats their customers like this). As a vegetarian, burger joints aren't generally my thing, but this place is far and away my favorite place to get a veggie burger if I'm feeling too lazy to make one myself. I don't know if it's company policy, but every time I've ordered a veggie burger, at every Fatburger location i've been to, they've always cooked the patty on the grill they use for warming the buns, not on the grill they use for the meat. They have tons of fixings and options (I'll occasionally go for the egg when I'm feeling particularly protein-starved), all stacked high on a nice thick bun strong enough to keep everything together. It costs a bit more than other places (almost $9 for the burger, egg, and fries), but considering how few vegetarian options there are in Sherman Oaks late at night, it's DEFINITELY worth it. I always get mine to go with fat fries. That way, I can sprinkle my fries with malt vinegar instead of ketchup, like I'm in a British pub. And the coup de grâce is they have one of those cool new bazillion-options soda machines. read more

Probably the best chain restaurant burger around. Yes i like five guys, In-n-out, Tommys, Burger King and Carls BUT i have to say you can taste the fresh and lean beef in these burgers. And you definitely can not compare against all the other chains. They are absolutely delicious. Great, great, great burgers, fries and shakes! Chili cheese fries are out of this world, second only to Carney's. Fresh ingredients - cheese, lettuce, tomato - all top grade produce. Shakes are made from real icea cream, and taste like it. VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE! A burger, fries and a drink can cost you over $14 with tax! But hey, this isn't McDonald's. Service - mediocre. Poor english spoken by cashiers, which can be frustrating. Burgers take a LONG time, but then again, it's not really fast food. Just be prepared to wait a little while for your food (15 minutes, on average, when I go there). I need to come back here to experience it in all of its awesome soda machine/burgers and fries glory. My cousins hyped this place up and I didn't know if a burger joint could really live up to that much amazing-ness. I got the small (baby fat) burger (~3) and skinny fries. My cousin got the turkey burger ($5)...priceeeyyy. Anyway, the baby fat burger was not meaty enough for me...the patty to everything else ratio was too low. I think the fatburger would have a better meat to everything else ratio. SKINNY FRIES ARE DELICIOUS!!! There are also steak cut fries but I'm down with shoestring fries. If you ask for ranch they'll give you a packet of hidden valley ranch. If you ask for thousand island sauce they'll give you a packet of Paul Newman's Thousand Islands. Go for Paul Newman it makes everything taste so much better! The soda machine boasted 105 different sodas. Uhhh I want to play with that thing. They have peach flavored Fanta..whaaaaaaaaaaaa?! I pre-ordered my burger so that it would be ready when I got there, which was a smart move on my part since it seemed everyone was craving a Fatburger today. While I do love In n' Out, there's something special about a Fatburger. I think it's funny that they put relish and pickles on the burgers. Aren't they the same thing? I had a horrible experience when I went into this fat burger on Saturday night. I ordered chilli cheese fries and a burger. The chilli was old and thick and cold, it looked at least over a day old, and the bun on my burger was stale and hard like a rock. I took a couple bites from the chilli fries, and it was horrible. I returned the food and my first instinct was to ask for a refund but the ladie was nice enough to make my order again. I paid roughly $15 dollars for some food that was not fresh and not made to order. Fast forward to the next day, I woke up and had the runs all day and was forced to call out sick to work the next day. My stomach is still sore. I complained to Corporate and A guy called me with very little empathy and told me that he looked at the camera and can assure me that the food was fresh and kept saying no one else was sick. He acted a if he didn't believe me, It's all good, I will never eat there again, and I hope lots of people read this and boycotts that location. read more

There was an unhappy woman at the register who looked like she forgot they pay her to actually service people. Pretty good burgers if you ask me. The fries are nice too. I have yet to attempt the Triple-King challenge, but that looks pretty calorie-inducing.
