A cute cafe within a short walking distance from our Airbnb in Treme. It still said Ruth's on the outside, but met Fatma herself once we got inside. She was so friendly and explained Turkish coffee to us since we'd never tried it. The drinks were all pretty bitter and unfortunately the chai latte was too faintly flavored for my liking. The food on the other hand was delicious and fresh. The egg, cheese and spinach biscuit was something I'd go back for and I would try some of the beautiful desserts as well! Great surprise find while driving around. A nice Mediterranean breakfast place. The menu has some traditional but it seems to me Mediterranean fusion. They have a great pastry selection as well. I had Turkish coffee this string cider with the grinds at the bottom. I am a fan but some may think it is bitter or too strong. The Turkish coffee more than espresso so I recommend you try it at least once they also come with a little bit of water and lagniappe sweet a Mediterranean fig candy. (Fig maybe) For breakfast ordered the 2 egg bake over easy. (Also available scrambled) it is baked with tomato sauce. The flavor was balanced and full of umami. I did some homemade salsa in clear bottle near the counter and salt and pepper. I thought I added too much but it only a bit spicier than I like I am about a 6 for 1-10 spicy scale. Not sure, but I think you have to buss your own dishes at the end because they are pretty busy, there is a tray next to the water dispenser. Fatma's is a cozy corner indeed! Located a just south of I10 and north of the French Quarter, Fatma's is a local establishment that seems to drive both tourists and locals alike. We ended up ordering almost everything on the breakfast menu including a variety of coffee drinks and were very pleased. Most of the dishes have a very light feel, indicative of fresh ingredients and relatively light seasoning. It was a good breakfast to counterbalance an otherwise very hearty trip of Cajun food in New Orleans and we felt all the better for it. Everything is counter service and I will say the service is a bit slow in like a local, everyone is working at a happy pace kind of way. The Two Eggs Breakfast pictured was definitely one of the favorite - very flavorful with the egg poached in tomato sauce but still not heavy. My favorite part was a wiser woman sitting in the corner of the restaurant crotcheting something next to a chill cat. Good times for all. read more

Cozy, cute little place! I felt like I was at home and could just sit there on a nice chilly day and warm up. The Turkish coffee was good, it was our first time trying it. The owner also gave us 1 Turkish delight to eat with the coffee, which was a nice touch. It was my first time having Turkish delight. I've always wondered what it tastes like since Edmund was so willing to give up his siblings and Mr. Tumnus for an endless amount. It wasn't worth giving up my family but it was a nice treat. The cheese danish was good, but tasted commercialized, like from Costco. I was expecting something homemade...it was still good though! Her baklava was very good! Out of the way and down a little rough street. There is street parking at least. It's on the corner of Ursuline and Robertson. They do charge 3.8% for using a card, which you find out after your card is run through, always punishing plastic card users. Cozy and weathered spot. Converted old house. We ordered the Turkey, cheese, egg and tomato breakfast sandwiches on croissant (comes typically on a biscuit), fattoush salad; oat milk latte and a green hot tea. $45.83. Skip the green tea, doesn't taste very deep in green tea flavors after steeping a while now. Oddly tasted like Lipton tea. Drinks were out quickly. The food takes a bit longer, expect about 25 minutes or more. The oat milk latte is fine, tastes as expected. The first breakfast sandwich came out on biscuits. The staff had to take them back and put them onto croissants. The fattoush salad is good, comes with olives, peppers, feta and parsley too. The salad is quite good. The croissant Turkey breakfast sandwich is tasty. The croissant is buttery. Service is warm, food is good. Not liking the credit card charge much though. read more

I liked the two eggs breakfast, which came with a smoky tomato sauce and toast. We also had a couple breakfast sandwiches. My husband and I both had the egg, tomato, spinach, and cheese. The sandwiches were filling, but heavy on the oil. My husband and friend had the regular coffee, and really enjoyed it. I had the plain chai and found it to be watery and flavorless. They also serve lunch sandwiches, like ham or Turkey and cheese. They serve sweets like cakes and baklava, which was flaky and delicious. It really is a cozy corner. It felt warm, intimate, and relaxed. We had just returned from Italy and Greece the week before and were so thrilled to find Fatma's. Like other locally owned smalls in New Orleans it blended into the community around it. If we had not been looking for it we may have missed it. It is quaint in a charming hidden jewel way. It even had a cat sitting on the porch. If you've been to Greece or if you go, you'll get that reference. There were people in various nooks either at tables or on small couches. The area up front was cozy and that's where you order. Walk along a short hall to the back where there are two spaces to be seated, one has a small couch among the tables. There is art on the walls and the tables are set for intimate conversations. It was a drizzling Sunday, early afternoon, the Gumbo Fest was happening a few blocks away but we were content sitting the farthest room with the small couch at a table for 3 enjoying watching people walk by and the rain. The window was slightly up and I felt like we were in Mykonos again. We talked about our lovely trip over expresso and a latte. The food was delicious, the portions were enough to satisfy without over stuffing. It was a lovely experience. The menu isn't super extensive but I think that is part of the experience. There is a display of sweet treats that you'll want to try or take home for later. This is a great place to bring a good friend, a romantic interest, or come alone. They are family owned and there is one cool who is making everything on a regular stove so do not expect fast service if they are busy. The food is decent, but nothing super amazing. The vibe and ambiance mixed with the super nice staff make it a nice stop to support a local business. I am staying at an AirBnB about 5 minutes away so it was on my walk home. The Mayor was having breakfast here the first time I ever went and so I sat in the main dining room just listening to the conversations being had with no one else in the room. That made it feel like I found a hidden gem all in itself! Service is ALWAYS impeccable. The coziness of this place is so inviting and feels like home. Coffee here is strong, desserts are rich and the food is prepared and served with attention. It is a little bit on the pricey side in my opinion but it's a small business and I'm pretty sure it's owned and operated by immigrant women. We stayed in the neighborhood (which I highly recommend) just around the corner on Gov Nicholls street. This place was the icing on the cake, so to speak, to our stay. I enjoyed the food there as much, if not more, than what I ate in the French Quarter. Prices were more than reasonable. Cozy is the perfect word for it. There was indoor and outdoor seating and pet friendly. The staff was friendly as were the locals who dropped in for a meal. Service was fast and the food was plated beautifully. I'm in love with it here - yes I am sitting here right now and felt compelled to write a review. I recently moved to town and I've struggled to find healthy food. The struggle is real. Fatma's is a place where you can eat a light, healthy breakfast and sip an Americano in the midst of welcoming, genuine service and delightful ambience. The Mediterranean breakfast is a cheese lover's dream. The halva makes a divine finishing touch. The spinach breakfast sandwich may be the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had.
