A downside is that they didn't have the bubble teas advertised on the menu.. only soft drinks and bottled or canned drinks. I hope this gets resolved soon. If you're a fan of spicy food then you will really enjoy this place. LIC has high price tags on everything and for a restaurant to succeed, it really needs to be smashing and out of the ordinary. This place delivers on being flavorful enough to stand out. The menu is straightforward and keeps things simple with a small list of items. It's a spicy noodle shop. Plain and simple. The spicy sauce stands out and it fits each of the dishes rather nicely. The portions are pretty big, it is packed with flavor, and not insanely expensive. I have small gripes but won't mention them here. However, the only reason for the 4 stars are the service and food can be a hit-or-miss sometimes. I would say the last few visits have been kinda MEH. It depends on who is working and whether the managers are paying attention or not. However, the majority of the time, it has been good and the staff in here are very friendly. I think the owner said the store name means DOUGH in Chinese. I'd still suggest you give this place a try. No regrets. read more

I have been walking past this place for a while now and finally got to try it this last week. My partner and I stopped by around 7pm on a Thursday and this place was popping! Unfortunately, the only table available for two was near the door and it was a slightly colder day. The interior of this establishment is minimal and clean. I absolutely love the earthy tones of the decor and dishware. Tables are well spaced and there's even a larger table for a bigger group in the back We ordered two appetizers to share and our own noodle soups. We wanted the Chili Wontons but they were out of them that day. We ended up getting the Drooling Chicken ($12) and this didn't disappoint! The chicken was juicy and the chili oil sauce was the perfect amount of spice. I would recommend this dish as a shareable. In addition, we also got the Zesty Pork Tongue ($12) which was pretty standard. I got the Supreme Beef Noodle Soup with Rice Noodle ($14). For the price, the portion size was good and the beef was well seasoned. The soup was what you would expect from a beef noodle soup and the rice noodle was a good choice to go with the beef. With all their dishes the spice level can be adjusted to your preference. Service was subpar as I feel like they were still getting their footing on getting customers their food in a timely manner rather than that personable feel when we interacted with anyone at the restaurant. We really wanted to try the Drooling Chicken but it wasn't available yet when they first opened on a Monday. That's okay though because we were very satisfied with how good the other dishes were. The Lamb Noodles dish was delightful. The broth is very clean, and the mala oil punctuates with flavor. The noodles are right on the line between firm and soft, and actually just the way I like. The lamb slices were a good amount and tender. We got the mild spice level and that still had some heat (albeit the most tolerable amount compared to the other levels, I'd assume). The spicy wontons were quite yummy. I enjoyed how the salty, spicy sauce hung off the wonton wrappings. Each bite was very meaty too. Branded as your favorite Asian eatery, I believe fer's menu draws on Sichuan influences. Seemed like the noodles and soups are the hallmark items on the menu. The menu is very approachable. I opted for the juicy lamb soup with egg noodles. The broth is ultra savory and on the salty side. I asked for it be prepared spicy. The Sichuan pepper paste helped balance the flavors and added that numbing mouthfeel. Reasonably priced at $14 for a bowl of soup. I also tried the rice noodles from my wife's soup. You can't go wrong with either of the noodles. The soups are simple yet well constructed. The staff is very accommodating. My wife found the soup to be too spicy initially and they remade her a bowl with no spiciness. Food is prepared pretty quickly too. They have a bar counter but no alcohol there yet. Fer is a great new restaurant in Long Island City near Queens Plaza. Drawing on southwestern Chinese culinary tradition, the menu features noodles dishes, soups, dumplings, dim sum, and a selection of teas and other beverages to pair with your food. There's a good amount of seating, and they also do a strong takeout game. Service and ambiance were both excellent. Last night, my girlfriend and I shared a minor feast. We started with the cucumber salad (crunchy and vibrant), moved on to the spicy chicken with egg noodles, the dumplings in soup, and the drooling chicken. One of the great things about sharing multiple plates is being able to combine food from each of them. In particular, the chili oil of the drooling chicken went well with everything else we ordered. The spicy chicken dry noodles dish was probably my favorite, but everything was do delicious and different it doesn't seem fair to think of it that way. Next time I hope to try the mapo tofu and maybe the beef noodle soup. This is a quality restaurant and I'm so happy to have it in the neighborhood. read more

I ordered the Juicy lamb noodles at a medium spice level. To be honest, they weren't really that spicy - definitely played it a bit too safe. Visited Fer during their grand opening! Overall, had a great time and definitely would go back for the appetizers and egg noodles. The staff were super busy but tried to be helpful and checked up on us multiple times. For a grand opening, it was definitely hectic, but we didn't have to wait too long for our food. The drooling chicken (口水鸡) is a must try! It was super delicious and wasn't spicy. I liked the beef supreme with egg noodles as well. The beef was seasoned really well and was soft to chew. We got mild for the spice level, but the soup was still pretty numbing to the mouth. It definitely was more numbing than spicy though. For the juicy lamb with rice noodles, we got the soup spice level medium. I still don't think it was very spicy, but I think the bowl would've been better with egg noodles. I had high hopes for this place but was truly disappointed. The food was very mid and the service was pretty whack. It felt like the workers didn't really know their menu. We saw a photo posted online that we were interested in trying. The waiter wasn't sure what that dish was and it turned out that it is the current special that they are running. Their menu has None/Mild/Medium/Spicy as the spice levels. We had picked spicy and when the food came out, the waitress said Medium. We tried to clarify that we asked for spicy and she said yeah, they're all spicy.. We said no, on the spice level, we chose spicy and she kept repeating that it was medium spicy and all are spicy. Then when we asked for 2 plates and a bowl, they gave us 1 bowl. It was just a very strange experience with service overall. For the food, we got the Supreme Beef Noodle Soup, Drooling Chicken, Organic Cucumber Salad and Cold Chicken with Peppers (this was one of their current specials). Whatever you do, do not get the cold chicken with peppers. It was really not good/we ended up leaving pretty much the entire dish there. Out of the other 3, my favorite was honestly the cucumbers which is pretty sad because that's one of the most basic items. It had a nice garlic flavor. The drooling chicken had good flavor, but I felt that they put wayyy too much oil in it that it was hard to get the flavor at the bottom of the bowl. All I could taste/feel sometimes was the extreme oiliness. The chicken skin itself was also very thick so the whole dish just felt very fatty. I really love the setting of this place and how it looks but I wasn't a fan of the food at all. The meat had a lot of gelatinous/clear fatty bits to it which I didn't enjoy and I ordered "mild spicy", and my dish was spicy. I can tolerate spice pretty well as I get xi'ans often, and it was not mild, but regular spicy. So why would it matter giving us the option to adjust the spiciness? My friend got the rice noodles and said they were soggy and way too soft. He got the highest level of spicy but it wasn't spicy at all.
