Went on a date night here and it was AMAZING! The staff are very friendly and really know their stuff! We came later in the evening and some of the dishes we were interested in they were out of, which was perfectly fine. It was pretty crowded for dinner service on Saturday, and the server offered to give us some iced tea, but that too was unavailable. We shared the cucumber salad which was A+, and I had the tofu and bokchoy rice noodle soup. The spice level was perfect, the tofu well prepared and tasty, and those noodles! I'll probably dream about them for the coming week. It was spectacular! The portions are HUGE, so it's probably best to bring a friend (or two). The decor was very relaxing and provided a serene and almost zen like atmosphere. We came an hour before closing and I was concerned, so I asked one of the servers what time they closed and they just told us not to worry about it and enjoy our food, which I thought was very graceful of them. They have different types of noodle soups and dry noodles with meats such as the standard beef and lamb, but also tripe and intestine -- all at a very reasonable price. I had the beef tripe noodle soup. The mild was not very spicy, so I recommend getting medium/hot if you're craving heat. The bitter melon salad was my favorite dish. Visited this new restaurant in Long Island City, because I saw it from the outside and was captivated by their minimal style and aesthetic. I must say it's very different to your regular Asian food restaurant. This feels more authentic, and also very very healthy. Our server, Brian (or Ryan, sorry!), was extremely nice and knew the entire menu from beginning to end, he gave us amazing recommendations, specially for people that are not use to spicy food. My only not-so-positive comment is that we chose to sit at the end of the restaurant, away from the door, but we had some boxes next to our table. I understand they just opened, but maybe they can find another suitable space for those boxes. The food was amazing and you can choose your level of spice. We had the Chicken Broth Wontons and they were delicious. For our main, we had the Juicy Lamb with spicy chili oil on the side, and the Spicy Chicken; both of them with egg noodles. My wife had the Supreme Beef Noodle Bowl with thick rice noodles, mild spice, and I had the Spicy Minced Pork with Peas, thin rice noodles, medium spice. The beef melted in your mouth, and the broth was definitely slow-cooked made in-house. My pork dish was delicious! The white peas, green chili, noodles, and pork gave the bowl a beautiful depth of flavor. We also had chicken wontons that were delicately made in-house and were also delicious. The supreme beef was OK. I had the meal to go, I would have preferred to get the broth in a separate container so I can pour the broth to my liking into the bowl. After the meal, I was still hungry and left unsatisfied. I felt the broth, in my opinion tasted more watered down. The beef was very small and I think if you're going to call the dish supreme, you would expect something bigger. If I had to choose, I prefer Japanese ramen over this selection at Fer. Granted it's exciting to see more new ethnic eateries opening in LIC, this restaurant is located in a quieter section of town, kind of like the across sea from the other popular places. No matter, if the food is good, people will make the effort to go there. Be aware most dishes are spicy and sadly, the overusage of spices and chili overwhelm the palate quite much. Beef noodle soup? Lots of chili pepper. Wontons in oil? Swimming in spicy pool of sauce. Even most 'tapas' are very fire instigating. They really need to notate some spicy level transparency on the menu. The only 'gentle' dishes are veggie tofu noodle soup and chicken broth wontons. Atmosphere is modern and very 'Ikea' ambiance. Service is young and friendly and the bar area is a nice touch. Just need some tweaks to make this place run better. I prefer the OG Burp Bowl Cafe, but happy to see the recipes be inspired in another borough. read more
