Did not look like much but decided to go in and try it. ( had to quench my craving for authentic Italian ) I tried the veal Marsala and oh my gosh. The veal was tinder and cooked to perfection. The marsala whine sauce was probably the best I've ever tasted. The owners are from Sicily and have 5 different restaurant across Texas. Family owned and operated, very kind gentleman. Fera's is nestled next to campus and is a quaint little restaurant. We went at noon on a Thursday, and we were the only ones there...later two other people came in, but definitely no lunch rush. We ordered wine, but it tasted like it had been sitting out for a while, so we politely returned it...they were very gracious about it and brought another wine. My wife had the lasagna and said it was average. I had the veal Milanese which was a little dry, but before I could ask, my waitress brought me some sauce to dip it in. I'm going to preface this with a reminder that I tend to not eat a lot of Italian because I get disappointed when it doesn't measure up to my departed grandmothers cooking. I'm aware that's not a fair bar to measure a restaurant up to and I think I'm usually pretty kind in my star rating, even if I do bluntly mention what a place isn't doing right in the actual review. This is exactly the kind of place that embodies why I don't eat Italian a lot. It looks good on the outside, but then my taste buds are disappointed. I take the blame for this one because I've eaten at way too many Italian places in the last couple of weeks, and this was bound to happen. However, based on the reviews, I wasn't expecting it to be Fera's. We arrived shortly before 6pm and were seated at one of their few booths by a gentleman who wasn't super friendly. We thought it was because he was busy doing everything and having to run back to the kitchen so much. I found the ambiance nice. I'm a fan of stone work and liked the set up, the lighting was dim and it was almost romantic. My sweet tea tasted freshly brewed and I took that as a really good sign. A woman flew through and dropped two rolls and a smile our way, before she disappeared again. We used the whipped butter on the table and I have to say that this bread was the best part of the meal! The rolls were beautiful and thick with crispy, flaky shells that created crumbs everywhere (too good to care) and luscious, softness on the inside. They were gone too quickly and I was sad we only got one each. We had ordered a sampler to share and each got a slice of pizza. The food arrived at a reasonable rate, but the gentleman kept asking about the plates so we could share and seemed to forget we already had this conversation twice. In the end my husband just used his bread plate. His drink sat without a refill from the time the food came until we left. I didn't need one, but the last of my tea was watered down and I would have appreciated a refresh. However, more people were coming in and we didn't actually see anyone again until we had finished our food, so the opportunity to ask was also our opportunity to ask for the check so we could move on with our evening. The sampler was smaller than I expected for $8.99 and served in one casserole dish. I get tired of every place including lasagna in their sampler, I find it boring. This place offered lasagna, manicotti and ziti. I also liked that they had a second sampler available which offered cannelloni instead of ziti and didn't change the price, which I thought was a nice offering. I expected better portions for the price though. My first bite of food was a piece of overcooked ziti. I was crushed... ziti is one of my favorites and the pasta was so overcooked that it was discolored. I then tried the lasagna and it was actually really good, I was pleasantly surprised and liked the meat in there. The manicotti was a little sweet and very loosely rolled. I found some ziti that wasn't overcooked, but it wasn't much better. The lasagna was the only thing worth trying again. My husband with the iron stomach is notorious for being really easy on places and even he said it was frozen dinner quality. We agreed on three stars... at best. Then there was the pizza. The crust at the end was really hard while the rest was floppy and soggy. The ingredients themselves tasted fine, but it wasn't a great pizza. Don't take floppy to mean it was supposed to be NY style, the crust wasn't chewy, just soggy. My husband got the Neapolitan with pepperoni for $2.50, while I had paid more for the house specialty cheese pie. They were exactly the same in cook and consistency, but mine had some decent ricotta on top. They started pooling grease very quickly. Everyone knows we live in Texas, right? They have A/C, but instead they had the ceiling fans on and the side door open. That doesn't make me feel appreciated, it makes me feel uncomfortable and muggy and a little cranky. Not having a chance to get a refill or give feedback on the food because no one checked on us after delivering it, doesn't make us feel appreciated either. However, I think the staff was small and after 6:10pm they were filling up to the point where you couldn't find anyone. For that... and the fact that they thanked us after paying, I'll cut them some slack on the rating. It's got to be hard being right off campus if you have a small staff. I'm hoping this was just an off night since a lot of the reviews are really positive. read more

My wife and I tried this great little spot. The service was great. The salad was fresh and the rolls were super good!! Crispy and hot. Perfect. Truly expected this to be so much better. The interior decor of the restaurant is fantastic, and certainly makes you feel like this is a "Mom and Pop", old-style Italian place. I'm sure it is (or at least was at one time), but that's about where the ambience ended. The waiter was nice enough, but not very well informed, and wasn't all that attentive to us throughout the night. That last part would've been understandable if they were busy, but we were one of only three tables in the entire restaurant that was occupied, and the rest of the staff spent most of the time just huddled up at the end of the bar talking. And it's never a good thing when you say that the garlic bread is the best part of the entire meal. Even the iced tea wasn't very good. The chicken fettuccine was forgettable - both in terms of taste and portion. Even decided that I wanted to try their pizza just because we were there for the first time, and the pizza was just... A piece of pizza. Nothing special. Most likely will not be back. read more

We discovered this old charmer two weeks ago & went back again today! They have the best veal parmigiana I ever had and their pizza is great too . The old- Italian ambiance is reminiscent of old places I frequented while growing up on the East coast. It looks like they could accommodate a large group also. Great, unique place! read more

Everything was so good, I got spaghetti and meatballs and that was the best marinara sauce I have ever eaten in my life, I make it myself from scratch a Sicilian recipe but this was so much better I I could've eaten another hour it was so good the rolls the garlic rolls were again so dang good you want to eat all of them but they give you six we ate four of them the service is wonderful and the food is just wonderful comfort food the best I've ever had in Italian food don't hesitate to go and take your friends the price is so good also not expensive at all very fair pricing lots of atmosphere great experience I can't wait to go back read more

We love going to Denton square all the time and we have our go to places for dinner, but we want to keep trying other places and exploring the Denton area, which is how we found Fera's Italian Restaurant. First off, this place has a really neat interior, complete with trees and a kind of homey feel. It really feels like a place that is family owned, (which it is! Or so they said), and that has had a lot of care put into it. We even had a husband and wife tag team waiting on us! (Relatives of the owner too!). For starters, the bread we were given was okay. The flavor of it was great, but it had a crispy outer shell with very little bread inside. Bread is free, so not docking points for that, plus I know this is my own personal preference. However we did order some cheesy garlic bread, and although the flavor was great, the cheese wasn't quite melted enough for my taste. Also, in the future I'd like to see a different type of bread rather than just a baguette split down the middle. (No points docked for the type of bread). Now for the entrees! My wife ordered the Baked Ziti and thoroughly enjoyed it with no complaints. My dad got the linguini carbonara which was FANTASTIC, particularly the sauce, which was incredibly creamy and full of flavor. This meal was by far the favorite at the table and I know I personally can't wait to try other dishes with this specific sauce. I ordered the Aristocrat, a chicken and spaghetti dish with a bit of eggplant on top of the chicken. It was definitely a unique taste for me and I DID enjoy it. Just like the other dish, the sauce was creamy and tasty, just not QUITE as creamy and delicious. To be clear, I enjoyed this dish, but one criticism I have is this: the chicken tasted like it had been frozen for awhile or like it was a cheaper brand. Everything about the sauce more than made up for this, but the one thing keeping this place from getting five stars from me was that the chicken tasted just a bit off. Next, dessert! We ordered two desserts: the Italian Cheesecake and the Spumoni Ice Cream Pie. Both were great, but one word of advice....get the Spumoni! The cheesecake was really good, but that Spumoni was so good and quite unlike any dessert I've tried before. It was definitely the favorite at the table, just like my dads meal. Overall we left very pleased with our dinner and very few criticisms. We certainly plan to return and I can't wait to try more dishes here. The only things I'd like to see change would be what I mentioned about the bread and the quality of the chicken and maybe a few more drink offerings. There is definitely wine and beer, but I personally would like to see some cider here, (but that's just because I don't drink beer, so no points were docked for this). The fried cheese was pretty good, nothing spectacular. I had the Fera's Sampler which was delicious. Can't say i was too thrilled about the rolls, they didn't live us to the hype on here but they weren't bad. Our waiter didn't serve us half the time and the wait for just drinks was quite long. Another lady was kind enough to refill our waters every time she passed. I'd definitely come back again just to try more of their pasta. read more

This place makes me wish Yelp had a option to give 10 stars. Let's start off with the atmosphere. Beautiful decor gives off a very romantic vibe. Incredibly charming design ! Service was great !! I loved the waitress who i think is actually the owner. She is hilarious and her food suggestion was really good. The food was incredible. The moment I bit into that oh so amazing complimentary bread that was perfectly soft with a crunchy exterior , I knew I was in for an amazing dinner. We ordered fried mushrooms for an appetizer as well and it was paired with one of the best marina sauces I've ever had. Onto the actual meal - OMG. I've never had a meal I've raves about so much. I forgot the name of it but it was a chicken and eggplant in a pink sauce ( see photo). My boyfriend got Veal Parm and that was delicious as well. If you're looking for a place with great prices and great food , this is it. I've paid much more for Italian food that was sub par compared to this restaurant and I am never going back to them. Came here with a friend and the experience was nice at first, but progressively got worse as the night went on. We ordered mozzarella sticks as an appetizer and it was clear when they came out that they were frozen and store-bought. This wouldn't have been an issue if they hadn't come out to $1 per stick for five sticks. The food was good enough for the prices that were listed (especially right on UNT's campus), but the issue that stands out and warrants the two-star review is that we were overcharged. Sure, everyone makes mistakes, but the woman who rang us up had the menu with all the prices right in front of her, and we ended up paying about $10 dollars extra if you include the tips that we mistakenly gave before we realized she upcharged everything we bought excluding the drinks. I didn't want to say anything because she thanked us for coming and I understand that times are hard. It's just frustrating when you're a college kid and every penny counts and you even don't get an itemized bill. read more

Come here once a month to celebrate my girlfriend and I's anniversary. Its so cozy, quiet, and you can actually read the menu because the lighting is not too dim. There are only 3 servers but all of them are welcoming and attentive. I always get the chicken Florentine, and my girlfriend gets the spaghetti with meatballs and they both taste great! One of the main reasons we keep coming back though is the price!
