This is a great south hill local family owned restaurant! Love their shrimp diablo, the wife gets a tasty salad and the kids usually go with spaghetti or pizzas. They usually have 2 local and 2 other beers on tap with a good assortment of wines. A true spot to cover all the family needs. They are also the only spot on the south hill to get creamy, delicious, gelato! They have a great gift shop off the restaurant that my daughter and wife usually find something too cute not to have. Third time is not the charm! I have loved Ferrante's but something has changed. The last three times there have been truly disappointing! Long waits for our food which came out overdone and inedible! Trying one more time the same thing happened again and we were told the Chicken Parmesan was supposed to look that black. After trying to eat it we sent it back. The new meal was a tiny bit less over cooked and dark. Since I love the food usually, I decided I would try one more time. I took my friend for lunch and we waited an hour and a half for our food. While waiting, the cook came out to another table and ate a pizza. I looked in the kitchen to see if someone was in there and it was empty. By now we are the only people in there. We were informed our ticket was misplaced! We were the only ones there and when we arrived there were only two other tables that already had their food. All this said by our server with a smile. I guess she forgot she had one table? We got up to leave and our food magically arrived and we were told that something would be done for our long wait. When paying the bill, not one adjustment was made. Also, the last times I have been there it has been freezing. We asked if the heat could be turned up and we were told no that it was just cold in there. We were also told the server was warm because she was working! Everyone in the restaurant was wearing their coat. I don't know if the restaurant has changed hands, has a new cook or new management but all issues should be looked at. Customer service is at an all time low and the food is close behind. It makes me sad because this used to be a great place. read more

So, I've been several times for Gelato with my kids, had the Hot White pizza and other dishes with my GF and friends, and even bought jewelry, cards and cute little pins while eating dinner and running around the S Hill. Ah, Ferrante's - my current Spokane favorite. Thank you for your consistently good food at reasonable prices! Perhaps you should teach restaurateur classes in Spokane to show them how it is done. Your kitchen staff is doing a great job. The gelato is delicious! The pasta dishes and salads are always so good and comforting. You have some of the best pizzas in town. Everything has great flavor and is seasoned so well. The shrimp salad is one of my favorites. The interior is casual and comfortable. My only problem wih Ferrantes is that it is located in Spokane and I DON'T LIVE THERE! I wish we had something even half as good here in Albuquerque. I have eaten there every time I visit Spokane and have always been impressed. There is nothing I have tried that I haven't loved! The food is always fresh and delicious! They serve yummy wines in adorable Italian glasses and a nice variety of beer in chilled mugs. The owners know what makes eating out a good experience--keep it casual, cool and affordable....oh and tasty! Try the peas and bacon pasta--amazing! My daughter had the gnocchi pasta with spinach and mushrooms--also amazing! The panini is delicious...the pizza rocks and the salads are fresh and interesting. They make their own dressing--which is so flavorful, it brings tears to your eyes! OK, maybe I'm being a little dramatic, but this restaurant definitely knows how to make good food. The store at the front of the restaurant is packed with cool gifts. I can always find something for my girlfriends (and usually a little something for me:) Ferrantes is my favorite restaurant. If I lived in Spokane, I would eat there all the time. If you are privileged enough to live in Spokane, try Ferrantes. It's pure goodness. read more

I was expecting more than I got. It is pretty much self-service with very little service at the table. I had to go get my own salt and pepper and something to eat with. The salad at $4 was chopped iceberg lettuce with a flavorless dressing that I really couldn't even tell that there was anything hardly on it. The gnocchi carbonara was pasty, doughy and dense with a watery sauce that was bland, served with a piece of bread with no garlic or butter or taste. The gelato, rather than being creamy was so stiff and sticky that it almost broke the plastic spoon that I had to eat it with from the styrofoam cup. This lack of satisfaction cost $25 for one person and when I realized I was to go to the counter and tell them what I had so I could pay for it, I ignored the tip jar. The cost is out of proportion to value received in my opinion. I won't be back and won't recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

Overpriced. $15 for chicken Alfredo and half a slice of dry bread. This is confusing because you order at the counter and pick up your own food at the window. I guess the savings for not hiring a waitstaff isn't passed onto the customer. The Alfredo had an odd aftertaste and the chicken was dry. I only ate about a quarter of it. Food was good, but could of had more flavor (garlic). I had the bacon and peas, which I'd probably order again. My nephew had fettuccine alfredo with chicken and he loved it. Kids had the pizza from the kids menu and they weren't too thrilled. Both love pizza, but they barely touched it tonight. Kids menu was a little pricey, it should only be $6 or $7 vs $10. The wait time for food was on the longer side so don't go here if you are in a hurry. We'll be back sometime. read more

The food (pizza) was incredible, but the service pretty poor. After 25 minutes of our kids having food and us still waiting (our app salads came in good time, but were not the ones we ordered), we approached the staff only to have the female server more concerned about charging us for the food she failed to ring in, than the fact that we still lacked our main courses an hour later. Thankfully, the cook was a complete hero and seeing our distress came right to our table and inquired. 10 minutes after speaking with him we finally had our dinner. It was INCREDIBLE. I had the margherita & my hubby had a Pepperoni & black olive. They were fresh, delicious, hot & amazing. At checkout the server or manager failed to acknowledge their error or offer any compensation. Very disappointing. My advice is plan for terrible service, but go there anyway because the chef is incredible. read more

Very small, self service, Italian cafe. If you are looking for a formal dining experience, this is not it. Window order and pickup. Ordered a sausage ragu on penne. My biggest fear is that I will get a bowl of oil. To my great delight, the sauce was perfect with no extra oil or fat. Reminds me of eating lunch in Boston's north end or in some New York mom and pop place. Gelato is good but disappointed that they have to ship it in from Michigan. Seriously, you couldn't come up with some a little closer? Last thing, there is some shop type area taking up space in the front. Basically some tchotchkes that I feel are taking up seating space. I love this place. It has a great atmosphere, is priced very reasonably and the food is terrific. I always plan on trying something new, but the "white hot" pizza is just so good I always go back to it. Lot's of variety on the wine and hardly a mark up when you buy the bottle. This is probably my worst customer experience ever!!! We placed a take out order when we got it home there was no sauce on my pasta just oil not even EVOO. SICK! The chicken was even burnt. When we called to let them know it seemed fine until 5 minutes later Tony the OWNER calls us and says you ordered wrong this is your fault. Excuse me? We ordered a half order of Alfredo the hostess said she would put it in as a kids order. Her choice not ours. So Tony the owner says kids don't get sauce, so apparently you can add mushrooms and serve burnt chicken to kids but no sauce EVER. then Tony the owner says adults can't order kids meal even though he had no idea if it was for a kid or not. And don't forget the hostess put in a kids meal we didn't ask for one.In short NEVER in my have I been called at home by a business to tell me that I was a bad customer. What an embarrassing display of customer service. You should be ashamed Tony the Owner. After 10 years in the hospitality industry I am appauled ashamed and disgusted. read more

My husband and decided to eat here for lunch. We were standing at the counter looking at their menu when the woman told us to sit anywhere and she would come and take out order. After about 10 minutes she came over and told us that if we wanted to order, we had to go up to the counter.... So my husband got up and went to place our order. He told her that for the chicken parmesan, but please put the pasta with alfredo on the side instead of under the chicken. She was completely confused and went to the kitchen to ask if they could do that. When she came back she said they would not put cheese on it. No.... we want the cheese, please just put the pasta on the side. She proceeded to tell him that they could just make it without cheese. Wow! Please just put the pasta on another plate, leave the cheese. She discussed it with the cook (again) and he understood. After an hour our food was ready, and even though there was mozzarella on the chicken, the pasta had tomato sauce on it instead of alfredo. The portion of the chicken was very disappointing as well. It was about 3.5 ounces of chicken for $15. It was one of those eating experiences that leaves you disappointed you spent money on it. We will definitely not be going back. read more

Two words: Mushroom Gnocci. Ok, if you have room try a calzone. The Ferrante's logistical method of ordering, picking up food and paying is a bit confusing at first but you get the hang of it. I prefer how the international German-Italian chain, Vapiano's, gives you a card to charge at each station and you pay at the end for your meal either together as a group or separately at the cashier's kiosk. However, I'm really at Ferrante's for the melt in your mouth gnocci and the gelato with the multi-syllable name that reminds me of the famous de Palma gelato store in Rome. read more

Fantastic food with a great environment. Have only been once, but will definitely be going back (and bringing people with us!). The food was delicious, decent portions, and we enjoyed the atmosphere. Our visit to Ferrante's was shortly after returning from a two week trip to Italy, so there were big shoes to fill! There's a little shop of sorts in front where they sell some pretty cool trinkets, jewelry, etc. Staff (seemed like mostly family/owners) was friendly and seemed to enjoy what they were doing which goes a long way toward providing a positive experience for the customer. I would happily give five stars, but I felt like having to order at the counter and make a few trips to carry my own drinks/silverware/etc. back to the table was a little awkward and unexpected... it just really seems like a place that would have a wait staff and would take your order at the table. This is one of my favorites places to dine in Spokane, the pasta is always done to perfection (the true Italian way). Good reasonably prices on wines an excellent menu to choose from depending upon your taste. I love the Peas and Bacon Pasta, Apples and Blue salad, White Hot Pizza, the calzone is always fresh, the gelato is authentic at least take some home. Pricy little bistro in a good location on the So. Hill, Spokane. I love that is is not a chain restaraunt but WAY too expensive and tacky that they yell your name out and it is self-service.
