This spot was recommended by a close friend from the area so we gave it a try. When we got there, we realized why he had recommended it to us; the spot opens up directly to the seaport, giving us an entire view of the ocean (and CT if you squint enough), which is really a sight to take in while you dine in. There is also a cozy park in front of the entrance of this spot so if you have to wait for seating, you can spend some time here or by the pier taking selfies at the oceanside. The staff were very friendly and helpful, they were attentive to our needs and accommodating to folks like us traveling with our cubbies - crayons and paper. In terms of food, I would say it was okay. The oysters were good but it is hard to find a place in Long Island with bad oysters. Fried calamari was tasty but nothing stand out, the clam chowder was a bit watery but fresh, their burgers were very tasty (I enjoyed this one a lot), but the surprising standout was their chicken tenders - delegated for the cubbies. I was a bit taken aback that they didn't have fish and chips on their menu in spite of their very well-fried chicken tenders. I can really imagine a standout item using the same fried batter using some local fish. The place was pretty empty when I got there. Four people at the bar, one family sitting in the dining area. I ordered one drink which turned out to be ok. BUT: The bartender was the grumpiest one I've experienced in a long time anywhere. When I ordered my cocktail from the specials menu, he audibly exhaled, turned to make my drink, put it in front of me. Not a word spoken. The Portuguese Quahogs ($18) come in threes, barely bigger than clams. So 6 bucks each. I recently spent a weekend get away a Danfords Hotel Airport in Jefferson. Obviously I had to visit there in hotel restaurant! I'm so happy I did because wow, the food is great! Everything I ordered was so delicious, and I truly enjoyed every bite! I loved that their pizza was on gluten-free crust! & their butternut squash ravioli was the perfect fall dish with so many delicious flavors! The restaurant also has a bar that you could just sit at and get some drinks. They also have live music on certain days! This is definitely a great spot, even if you aren't staying at the hotel! The food is great and the vibes are too! It's a bonus if you visit on a nice sunny day, because they'll have all the windows open!! read more

Saturday night, or date night for Mrs. E and myself. It's been a long time and a lot of negatives going on so we really needed a night out. Ferryman's Grill is formerly The Wave". Now we ate at the Wave a couple of times and it was a 50/50 experience. Well they changed their name to Ferryman's Grill so let's see what you have. First it's Saturday night and seems very quiet. Only one other table occupied. The menu is very limited.. a couple of fish dishes and a couple of steak or chicken dishes. Our waitress was excellent. I believe her name was Jonny. Yeah I know sounds like a guy's name but I assure you she is a girl. So Mrs. E orders a chicken dinner and I go for their curry salmon with Bok choy. Both meals were good but not fabulous. Actually the curry salmon was definitely out of the box for me. Not something I would normally order but why not I decided. Just keep in mind that this restaurant overlooks the Port Jefferson harbor so in the summer the views are spectacular. I will go back in the summer but for now 3 stars read more

The location is the best thing they have going for them. The hostess didnt seem qualified and told me we could eat inside with a server even though i requested outdoor when i made the reservation with her the day before. She said at that time "if we have availability outside, they can seat us there without issue, otherwise if there wasn't, we would be guaranteed indoor dining. When we got there for our reservation, she said we could come inside to our table & i was like we would prefer to be outside and there are so many tables... She said to sit outside we could seat ourselves and order inside at the bar and run our own food out. Ironically, when my male friend said we wanted to eat outside, they had no problem pushing some tables together. It should be noted that their outside dining area had literally dozens of empty tables and this should have never even been an issue. The service was super slow like many other reviews stated. Our server was nice, and for it being his first day on the job, he was excellent and was able to help us out with our menu questions, no problem. A few of our guests got the fish & chips and all were happy with that dish. The fried calamari app was delicious and not rubbery at all. My (overpriced) entree sucked (the cold lobster roll) and it tasted like a supermarket seafood salad in the sense that it was so mayonnaise-y and didnt have any depth of flavor. Ferryman's grille offers a really good dining experience. They revamped some things and it was all for the better. We started with the calamari that was fresh and crispy, bursting with flavor. The clam linguine had perfectly cooked pasta and plump, juicy clams in a flavorful sauce. The lobster roll had tender, succulent lobster on a toasted bun. The views from the restaurant were breathtaking, creating an enchanting atmosphere that made it even better! The frozen margarita was nice to cool off the heat. This is perfect for the summer. The Ferryman's Grille is a decent little spot right on the waterfront. It has a historic feel to with an open and airy feel. There are plenty of windows to help enjoy the view in nicer days. The menu is fairly simple and short but there are decent options for most appetites. The service was friendly and professional and the food came out relatively quickly. We were then told we could sit there or move inside. Arrived around 3 on a Saturday afternoon. Was fairly busy. Was asked if we were having apps or entrees. Had us scan the menu and we say both. Was told we could sit on the bar rail around the water right away to be served so we said that's fine. Hostess told us come back and tell her what number we were sitting at so we could be assigned a server because she wasn't going to be able to tell what number we were sitting at. Did that. Waited 20 mins and no one came over. Watched 3 other groups be seated at that time. Went and asked what's up. The hostess apologized and said they're not serving out there until 4, she didn't realize. Ok... so we said we want a table. Was again asked if we're ordering entrees. The waitress and food runner/busser were very nice but the service was slow. On top of that, we were brought the wrong order. It belonged to the table next to us. Hubby stayed with his plate bc he ordered the same thing as the guy next to us but I got the woman's tacos. My husband was almost done eating before my dish came out. I was again brought something I didn't order. Ok whatever it was grilled chicken instead of crispy chicken. Wouldn't have minded but the chicken was small and way over cooked. The aioli sauce was flavorless. Fries were decent at least. Hand to the man upstairs my dog didn't even want to eat it. Husband said lobster roll was decent, and we shared the burrata app which was yummy and refreshing. The meal from start to finish took 1.5 hours. Drinks were expensive but food was reasonably priced. The view is ok, you're looking at the marina where the ferry and other boats park. The guy playing the guitar was enjoyable and the staff was pleasant, but I didn't like to be asked what I was ordering to get a table, and I didn't like being ignored for 20 minutes. I didn't like my meal. I went and got pizza afterwards. Why are you asking me what I'm ordering? What if I wanted all appetizers? It's not like the entrees we're a lot more than the appetizers in price. It just felt weird. We're not kids looking to camp at a table, we are a 43/49 y/o couple looking for a meal. Went to Ferryman's Restaurant with my cousins for dinner. We thought we were going to Waves and didn't know it had changed hands. I came to order my favorite dish Lobster Mac and cheese which was amazing at Waves but Ferryman's no longer had that. I asked the waitress to ask the chef if he could make it and she went back to ask. The manager returned and said he would make it for us which made our whole evening delightful. The meal tasted exactly the same as Waves because it is the same chef just a different menu. The restaurant just needs to improve on their new menu it isn't what you expect when you have that beautiful view and want a meal that compliments it. Had an 8:45pm dinner reservation for a Saturday night to celebrate my engagement. We arrived about 10 minutes early and were told that even with our reservation, it would be a 30-40 minute wait. We were given the choice of sitting inside or outside but both had the same wait time pretty much. One of the hostesses recommended sitting at an open table (why were there open tables but a 30-40 min wait time??? For reservations??) and going inside to order food at the bar. Just as we were about to order food, someone came over to the bartender to say the kitchen isn't taking any orders for another 20 minutes because they are so backed up. My fiancé's parents took the ferry over from Bridgeport just for this celebration dinner (that never happened). Ruined what was supposed to be a perfect night! First the good. The waiter and floor manager were extremely friendly and attentive. The location/ambiance were perfect. Now the bad. Nearly 30 minutes had passed after ordering when the waiter came out and told me they were out of scallops. The food finally arrived 1 hour and 15 after the initial ordering. The lobster roll was not prepared as described on the menu. It was way too salty and mayonnaise based not New England style. The asparagus wasn't cooked nearly enough, it was tough and stringy. The lobster roll was sent back and both the waiter and manager apologized for the delays and the food being unacceptable. The manager compensated us for the returned meal and my alternate meal, BUT, there was a $15.00 charge for bottled water that we didn't order or receive. At that point, we just payed and left. Oh yes, the wine was served in a plastic wine glass. That should have been a clue of things to come. In my opinion, the kitchen is the biggest culprit. What a waste of a location. read more

This may of been one of the worst dining experiences I have had in ages. Seems as though Danfords cannot get a decent restaurant. It has changed over several times in several years. Now they have hit bottom. We arrived to have a drink at the bar before dinner. It was a cool august eve. The bar has new lighting that can give you a suntan if you sit there for more than 30 minutes or so. So bright I put my sunglasses on. They redid what was a nice classy looking bar into something resembling a cheap pub. We proceeded outside for dinner and live music. We were asked if we were ordering entrees before they would seat us. I suppose because they don't want people taking up a table and sipping a drink while listening to music. In my opinion they should simply have a 10.00 per person minimum if that's their worry. On this particular night the outside dining area was less than 1/4 filled. To cut to the chase, I ordered a burger medium with fries. It came out like a hockey puck that was so over cooked I couldn't eat it. On top of that we were not given any setups. We had to flag a bus boy to get a knife and fork. The music being blasted by a disc jockey was horrible. Perhaps at my age loud hip hop is not my thing. Couldn't get my check fast enough to get out of there. Leaving I could understand why the service was terrible. Our server was at the bar talking with the 3 or so bartenders. It's a shame because this is a great location on the water and at one time a wonderful place to go on a summer eve. NOT ANYMORE!! read more
