Dined at the Syndicate twice during a four night stay at the Axis Hotel. The restaurant is adjacent and open to the hotel lobby, and offers an inviting atmosphere with comfortable seating in the dinning room or at the bar. Large screen TVs positioned around the dining room and bar offer a view of current sports events. The menu offered several appetizers, main courses and desserts. The first night I had stuffed ravioli with scallops and finished with the apple skillet. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the dish as a whole was flavorful. The apple crisp was served in a hot skillet with a thin layer of sliced seasoned apple on top of flaky pastry crust, and topped with ice cream. It was perfect with decaf coffee to top off a long travel day. The second night, My has abs and I both had the Farmers burger with the egg cooked over medium and extra bacon jam. It was excellent down to the last bite. My husband ordered crème brûlée, which was silky smooth and great with my coffee. Staff was friendly and accommodating! My Wife and I have dined at the Syndicate Bistro several times and have always enjoyed our drinks and food. The menu offers a fine selection of entrées that one wouldn't easily find elsewhere in this locality. The expertly-crafted sauces, seasonings, and cooking techniques make this wonderful restaurant transcend the experience offered by other local upscale restaurants. What amazes me most is that despite the extraordinary quality of the entrées and beverages, the atmosphere is very relaxing, low-key, and completely unpretentious! What a pleasant treat! My Daughter took us out to eat for our Anniversary. Appetizers were good. I had the Blackened Tuna. I figured that Blackened was cooked at some point. For $22 I got two morsels maybe 4oz. Fantastic dinner spot for the price! We ordered the mussels to start with, and they were some of the best we have ever had. Meaty and plentiful, and the broth was a 10! I had the filet and shrimp. Love this place. Downtown needed a classy new place. The atmosphere is very nice. The food and drinks are delicious. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. Brent is my fav bartender and He never disappoints getting me a great drink. Gus has the food on point and if I have questions, he comes to my table to talk to me personally. Came in for breakfast after seeing these Soufflé Pancakes on the menu from the night before and decided to get them. Absolutely delicious! If you like pancakes then you'll love these, especially if you haven't had them before. I couldn't finish them completely since it was a good bit of food so you won't leave hungry! The facility is beautiful. The rooms are very comfortable. The reason for only 3 stars, the service & the food. The food isn't very well prepared. For example, every "hot" item served at breakfast was cold. At dinner, we noticed the help congregating between the bar & the kitchen or around the front desk chatting. The service at the bar was the poorest. The head bartender seemed more concerned about his conversation via texting on his phone. It's all a reflection on the management. Pretty shoddy considering the place has been open three months. What we experienced is to be expected in the first week of opening. It's never changed. read more

I have eaten at the Syndicate 3 times since they have opened. The first time (approx Oct.), the food was good and the service was good. It was a slow Thursday night. However, my following experiences have resulted in many problems. 1. I had a girls night with 6 girls on 11/14/19. This was a very busy night at the restaurant, however with holiday parties around this time, I feel like this should be expected. They were out of many items that I really don't understand how (the bar was out of limes for drinks?). Most of our food was served incorrectly (my bouillabaisse was made differently than the first visit) or was missing parts of the actual plate (specifically, the avocado fries were missing the sauce that it comes with). Our food also took quite awhile to come out. However, it was busy and we all made the best of it. 2. My husband and I had a gift card so we went back on 1/16/19. First problem, I again ordered bouillabaisse and upon receiving this WITH CRAB LEGS, I was not given the proper fork to retreive the meat from the shell. Instead, I was given a WOODEN SKEWER STICK to try to dig the meat out of the shells. I was told that they used to have the proper utensils but now they don't have anymore, they all "disappeared". Second, We are both big fans of bourbon. The menu listed our bourbon as $7 a drink. We each ordered 2-3. We did notice that there was inconsistency in the amount with each pour (some heavier then others) however, we figured the bartender was new or was having a rough night. When we got our bill I was very surprised to see that I was charged $11 for each pour. I requested to speak to the manager on duty. He informed us that because they are a upscale, they do "more than a standard pour". He then attempted to educate my husband and I that a standard pour is 1.25 ounces and they pour 2, hence the up charge. I was really surprised that this is done without offering or informing a guest. I also was really taken aback that he felt we needed the education on pours AFTER we were charged instead of not having staff review this upfront with a guest. 3. Still not learning my lesson from the above, I also made reservations for 2/15/20 for 4 multiple weeks ago. We did so because we are attending an event close by that same night. I called just today to increase my reservations to 6 and was informed that the hotel (The Axis) that is associated with the restaurant is now offering a "package deal" and they are overbooked for that night so their books are closed. I'm "allowed" my original 4 but with being overbooked, they can not add anyone to my existing reservation. I ended the call and informed my husband. He immediately got on the app Open Table and was able to book for 6 on 2/15/20. I called back and spoke with the gentleman again that answered before and informed him of this. I was told "I'm just the bartender and this is what my general manager has told us". I advised said bartender that he may want to inform his general manager that they will remain over booked if you can book reservations on various apps. In summary, for an "upscale" restaurant, I think that the food she be the same each time, the proper utensils should be given for the food served, and guests should be informed upfront that they are receiving extra alcohol in their drinks and being charged for it. I urge guests to check their receipt and don't cut your hands on the crab legs. If you have reservations, better make sure the associated hotel doesn't trump your reservation. Good luck. read more

Wow! I'm a business traveler and was excited to stay at the Axis as a new hotel offering in Moline. Hotel restaurants can be a mixed bag but Fifth Avenue Standard was a total hit. The service from the bar was fantastic. I ordered the poutine as an ap. Delicious and a "MIDWEST appetite" portion you could share with 4-5 people. Custom Cocktails were balanced and thoughtful. Ordered the hot apple skillet with ice cream. So delicious! Again very large portions to share. I did not order an entree but look forward to my next visit to try a meal. It was our first time here and we were not disappointed! The service was great and she made great recommendations. We tried the Seared Salmon (flavor explosion!) and the burger (I think it's called the Syndicate Burger). Both were amazing. Unique flavor compositions and beautifully crafted on the plate. It's a cool atmosphere too... I might suggest a little dimmer lighting and smoother, quieter music (like jazz or something). It seems like a bit more intimate environment and those might keep that vibe better. But it's not a complaint - just a suggestion. read more

It is so nice to visit Moline since I grew up near here. Fifth Avenue Syndicate is a great new addition to dining options. I ordered the tuna steak sandwich with roasted Brussels sprouts for my side. It was fabulous. Brussels sprouts were dark and crispy and I ate the tuna sandwich open faced because it was so beautiful and flavorful. Plenty of sliced fresh avocado on top of the sandwich which is a big plus. Tried the Giggle Water cocktail and it was good but I had hoped for more peach flavor. The wine selection is very good. My waiter, Riylie, was so attentive and sweet. I'm planning on dessert but haven't made it there, yet! read more

Second time we made reservations and when we got there we're told to sit anywhere by staff only to be told we needed to move because that was someone else's table even though half the restaurant was empty. Food the second time was not great. Smoked cauliflower dip was under-seasoned, Meatloaf was dry, bouillabaisse was not great considering the price and wait staff was not as attentive. Boy I would love to give more stars. We showed up later on a Saturday night and started at the bar. The cocktail list is unique and well done. We decided to stay at the bar for our meal. Got the mussels and they were spot on. Really enjoyed the sauce they were cooked in over a traditional tomato sauce. We wanted to go all out and went for entrees and not sure that is where this restaurant thrives. Both dishes just seemed to miss the mark and one dish seemed to just have a ton of green beans as filler. The shrimp gnocchi was cooked in a unique way it just didn't seem to be a cohesive dish. Our desert took quite awhile to receive and had to be checked on. Ultimately it was served without the berries mentioned on the menu. We also ordered drinks that were served without the shaved chocolate. It seemed like there were several events and large groups and no communication between the bar and other components of the restaurant or hotel. The affect was disgruntled bar staff vocalizing their feelings to patrons. This place could be absolutely amazing and should be. The venue is gorgeous; it is the only real downtown bar/restaurant feel you get in the quad cities. I hope they can tighten up operations. I would order menu options besides the entrees. read more

Arrived for our reservation and Hostess mentioned that they don't take reservations. However, she did state the reservation gave us preferred seating of which we had our choice of available tables. Wait staff was very attentive to our needs and started us off with a couple of their delectable cocktails of the Prohibition period. They even made me a scofflaw cocktail also of the prohibition period when I asked them. It was prepared and served by the manager on duty and it was delicious. The menu is very straight forward and printed upon a newspaper style sheet. We started with a salad course of the Caesar and the House. Both came out timely and were very well done. I had a medium rare rib eye while my wife had the shrimp. Both meals were done to perfection and came to the table hot. The final was a shared Creme Brule which came out warm with fresh fruit berries on top. We were never rushed or pushed, our pace was our own and everything fit. Atmosphere was excellent, staff were excellent, and they made us feel right at home. We will return and highly recommend the Syndicate to our friends. read more

We were excited to try out this new place, and at the beginning I want to be clear that we intend to go back for a second chance (probably the brunch), but I was really disappointed. The service was slow and not really that friendly or knowledgeable about the menu or drink options. The French onion and broccoli cheddar soup were both enjoyable. Three entrees came separate from a fourth, which was several minutes later than the first group. The Salmon and Francaise Chicken were both positively received. The Roasted Half Chicken was thought to be quite bland. The Steak and Frites was the most disappointing option at a $29 price point. You could get the same thing at a pub for a third of the price. There were maybe six pieces of beef underneath an overwhelming pile of straw-style French fries that could be ordered from Steak-N-Shake. I wish I had gotten the Ribeye instead. Altogether, I am glad to have a new restaurant in the QC, but I think there is a very unhealthy condition of many new restaurants thinking far too highly of themselves with prices that suggest exquisite quality, but food that ultimately does not deliver.
