Today we took the family for lunch/dinner after my daughters baptism. I was hesitant about taking my family from out of town to this place being that I have never eaten here. I will say from the moment I called the day prior they were awesome. Very friendly and accommodating. I was extremely happy with our decision to eat there. The food was awesome. This wasnt a traditional baptism being that our daughter is 8 Frankie our server went above and beyond to make my daughters day extra special besides being a great server he payed her a little extra attention and entertained us all by playing some tunes on the guitar and singing a few songs. We all loved it. We will defiantly be back and I highly recommend Filomena's, especially for a family get together. read more

We had a retirement dinner at Filomena on Saturday, 30 May 2015. We were treated like royalty! The staff were really good to us . Thank you Domenica, Christine, and especially our personal server Ari and his efficient helpers. Our guests( 21 of us) thought that the food was absolutely delicious, and so much - everything from appetizers to dessert.. Every little detail was taken care of. We had the pleasure of dining at filomena on Saturday night. We had a very large and were there to celebrate a birthday. The place is beautiful and the food is excellent. Every single thing we ordered was great. The service was spectacular. They handled our large party so well. They were friendly and efficient. We didn't want for nothing. The service was awful. Our waiter did not tell us the specials and it went downhill from there. He did apologize and said he had a lot of tables in the front room. Martini glasses are so small they are a joke. Food was so bland and uninspired I actually felt like sending it all back, and I have not done that in 30 years of dining. Veal Chop was plopped on overcooked rice, and the other dish(sauté of veal) had zero flavor. Overpriced. read more

yes the food is good, but the service stinks. There are a few servers that know what they are doing others are just confused and have no idea. They have the servers doing too many things so on a friday or sat night when it's busy the customer suffers. me and my husband waited at the host stand for 20min before anyone even came to help us and when someone did they were socializing with another customer and still had to wait till he was done with them before helping us. not to mention when we finally sat at a table it was very hot in the room. we asked the server to see if they could do something about it and he said he would ask. nothing ever came out of it. we got out food it was very good, but after that we felt ignored. food was cleared but did not get asked for dessert or any after dinner drinks. so we just took the check and left. the only thing i have to say about this place is get your food to go!!!!! will not return read more

Been there many times and will continue to go back! Nice atmosphere, good service, food is the best in the area. Nice bar with good drinks. The happy hour (free) buffet is very good but a bit salty - I guess it's to make you drink more? Roast pork sandwich great for lunch. Held a dinner event in the back room. The service and food were great for a reasonable per person price. I tried a fish dinner on special, it was okay but I wouldn't get it again. The spicy tuna roll appetizer was cold and very raw. We tried Filomena's for the first time on a Sunday evening with our Jersey friends who recommended Filomena's. We had checked out the menu on-line first but were especially delighted to see that they had a three course prix-fixe menu for $22 pp. See http://www.filomenasberlin.com/Files/PrefixMenu22dollars.pdf For the first course there were a nice selection of appetizers. The four of us sampled the mussels (white or red sauce), fried calamari, bruschetta, and eggplant layered with mozzarella cheese. These were full size generous portion appetizers. Each one was a hit. The calamari were as tender as can be and delicious with a terrific red dipping sauce. The next course was soup or salad (Caesar or house). I had the mushroom and rice soup which was a hearty delicious mushroom soup reminiscent of mushroom barley soup. Main courses were generous portions that were not downsized for the prix-fixe dinner. We sampled stuffed flounder, shrimp scampi, veal parm, and tilapia with sautéed fresh escarole, pancetta, white cannellini beans and marinated tomatoes. Not only were all the entrees delicious and well prepared but what was really appreciated was that they came out piping hot and all at the same time. How often have we had entrees come out luke warm and with 1 or 2 of the people at our table waiting for their entrees while the others ate. It was a pleasure to have all the food come out simultaneously, hot and so well prepared. We eat at many Italian restaurants (who doesn't) both in Jersey and in the Philadelphia area. I can say without hesitation that Filomena's has to be one of the best based on our first visit. It's clear that the restaurant chef is on his (her?) game and that the restaurant is very well managed. Staff was especially attentive and pleasant without being overbearing. We could not find fault with any aspect of our meal. The restaurant environment was very nicely decorated with an open kitchen area. My sisters and I had my dad's surprise Retirement dinner at Filomena's and can not thank the staff enough for the outstanding evening!! We had the private room with a fireplace for our 30 guest. The restaurant was cozy and inviting and the food was perfect!!! Ari and Josh went above and beyond to make all our guest feel at home. They were so attentive and the meal and drinks flowed so nicely. Thank you Dominica for the wonderful suggestions on our menu when we made our reservations and taking care of everything so all we had to do was show up and enjoy ourselves! We will definitely be having many more family parties at Filomena's!! read more

The food was good, but definitely not great like some of the other Italian restaurants in the nearby area, especially for the price. The thing that makes this place 2 stars for me was the service & staff. While our waiter was friendly, he made some pretty bad errors. All 5 of us ordered the 3 course meal for $24, but our first course came out all at separate times, from 15 minutes for the first to 30 minutes for the last. Not sure if this was solely on him or on the kitchen staff as well. Our second course never came out. The main courses came out about 5 minutes after the last appetizer, with some lame excuse for missing the 2nd course. The thing that really disturbed me was the owner. We had to speak up quite a bit to get some kind of compensation for all the errors that were made, and it was like pulling teeth to get any kind of response from her. While I agree the server was lacking in great service, there was still some disjoint in how the restaurant ran, and as the owner she took zero responsibility and told us straight up (in front of the waiter), that it wasn't her fault and that we should just not tip the waiter. I guess I just found that unprofessional and in the end, she really could care less that our table had a bad experience. There are some great restaurants in this area that would bend over backwards to right a wrong, and this is not one of those places (especially for the price!) read more

Terrible Mother's Day 2012. Went for lunch at 1pm so that we would spend less than at dinner. Sat down and then presented with the Holiday Menu which consisted of only expensive entrees which would normally be served at dinner. Over priced entrees that didn't even include soup or salad. Who eats Filet Mignon for lunch? Ordered Strawberry Margarita that was terrible, sent it back, ordered Strawberry Daiquiri instead, still bad. Glass of wine was short on the wine. Had our Xmas party here and we had a great time. The appetizers and Entrees were awesome and the service was friendly. After the dinner we went out to the bar and were dancing to the live band they had playing, we already booked our 2013 party for here also, but will be back sooner. read more

I have dined at Filomena's many times and every time I go I have a horrible time. When I go out to eat, I want to have a good time with friends and family. Not here. The owners wife is the rudest person I've ever met. She should not deal with customers. The service is very lax. Every time I go I hear all the servers complaining about how bad it is to work there. The restaurant has an open kitchen and you can hear all the staff yelling, cursing, and being very loud. I always hear the owner yelling at the staff. I will say the food is pretty good. Not very consistent tho. The owners wife needs to understand that if she continues to be rude to customers, they will loose all their business. read more

Being 100% italian i have to say, food is quite amazing, pretty close to my mothers cooking. yeah its pricey but its a classy joint with good italian dinners and deserts, you get what you pay for here and thats a fact, outsiders of the area cannot really judge on a one time experience, so im my opinon, give it a shot! you wil never know how the food tastes just from some silly reveiews. Berlin restuarnt was my absolute favorite, waiters/waitresses were extremely friendly and even sang a song to go with the mood of the dining experince. TRY IT OUT! read more

Recently my sisters an I had taken my parents to Filomna's for 50th Wedding Anniversary. I will say the food was excellent but not the service. The Hostess only walked us half way to our table and pointed to the one we were to sit at. We had 2 waiters because we had a large party, and sat there with an empty glass while eating my dinner. Not once did either waiter ask if I would like another drink. They also seemed anxious get the bill to you, seems they don't want you around very long. Although I have been in this place many times to eat, I have to say that I received very, very poor customer service on the phone from a woman named Christine. I am assuming she is one of the general managers, but when I proceeded to ask her a few questions, I was answered very impolitely/rudely. I felt as although she could have been a little nicer with her response/tone. This is such a high rated place in my opinion, but I won't be in any time soon with what was experienced. read more

My fiancé, mother and I went to Filomena's on 3/18/16. We wanted to check out the restaurant for potential rehearsal dinner spot for us. Our server, Lisa was fabulous! She was knowledgeable about the menu and willing to make suggestions. She was able to pick up that we were a group that wanted to take our time and chat and I did not feel rushed at all. My mom was visiting from out of town and was in the mood for authentic eggplant parmesan. Although it was not on the menu that night, Lisa was able to accommodate my mom's request and the chef made my mom eggplant parmesan. Lisa was friendly, fun, accommodating and anticipated our needs. Her service was on point. Not to mention that the food was DELICIOUS! Will definitely be returning soon! read more

this (italian) south jersey mainstay has many convinced that this is where to go for a really good meal - a 'special occasion' type of restaurant if you will. i, however, think that these people are the same knuckleheads that watch fox news and think its reality. i am so sick and tired of established restaurants, like filomena, receiving you as if you should be grateful they decided to go into the cooking-business. well, the folks at this berlin locale (there are a couple other locations in south jersey - but who gives a shit), should have gone into the douche-business...i know that makes no sense, i don't even know what a douche-business is....but i'm angry, so let me break it down: i can not make risotto, that's why i go out to get it...and when the great chef(s) at filomena serve me a $25 plate of seafood risotto that tastes like miniature chalk ravioli served with the sand the seafood was caught in - it upsets me, because this was a 'special occasion' - and after we were seated by the supermodel-by-way-of-the-white-trash-temp agency-wannabe and served by the librarian-who-thinks-she's-cool-because-she-wants-to-be-a-school-teacher, it just went downhill. the waitress had to read off a piece of paper when decribing the specials and had an attitude like she was upset to have to wait on us, like she really didn't belong there, serving people....and once the food arrived she disappeared, forever.....when she returned, after i had long since stopped eating my sad excuse for anything, she agreed to not charge me for the meal - my party ended up paying for one of the same under-cooked, crappy mess - so good for her....but why am i being so negative?....because we tipped her well and when we left, every employee not-so-subtly gathered around the exit to see the bastard who dared send their beautiful 'italian' food back - and i'm pretty sure the hostess called me a jerk as i walked by - or another jerk happened upon her at the same time, i don't know.....shit, we even tipped the coat-check girl $1 per coat....people, just because someone tells you they are the news doesn't mean they can cook - open up your minds and go somewhere else dammit.....and i may be a jerk lady, but your career has no meaning. read more

Tonight I had a terrible experience at this establishment. I frequent this establishment 4 times a year birthdays Mother's Day and Valentine's Day. My server is mediocre this evening and I repeatedly had to ask for things. The specials more misinformed to me so what I thought I ordered I was given something else. When I asked about this I was given a mediocre apology and brushed off. My steak was way over cooked it was medium well when I requested rare. When I inquired about a manager I spoke with one woman explaining my dilemma and then was rushed off to an older woman who was slightly less friendly and who seemed quick to blame me and defend the waitress. Mommy walk back to my table and I sat down and showed her everything she explain to me how good their food was and did not want to hear my problem as I became agitated she became irate and aggressive I asked for my check told her I did not need anything fixed. That I just wanted to sit and eat with my mother and girlfriend while they finish their meal so we could leave. She kept on telling me to calm down and would not listen to a word I said until I begin to cuss. Then she began shoving things and banging and shopping waitresses to get my check to get me out of there. I paid my bill and left my mother and girlfriend to box up their food when they came out they said the woman started an altercation with them as well. Like I said in the beginning I've never had a bad experience here before tonight the food is always that the service has always been fantastic this however has left a bad taste in my mouth I never step foot in this establishment again. I am extremely disappointed one of my favorite places to visit and eat. I have made many memories here with friends and family over the years and all were destroyed tonight. read more

Four of us went last night for New Year's Eve dinner. Very disappointed in service as well as the food. The service was very slow. Understandable though because it was New Years and probably a little busier then a regular night. Food was very disappointing. Three of us ordered the surf and turf and one of us ordered two lobster tails ($70 each!). The filet was decent but the lobster was so tough that we could barely cut it or chew it! Appetizer was good but very small and salads tasted as if they were in the freezer or fridge all day. After dinner I had to say something to the manager since our bill was close to $400 for 1 appetizer, 3 salads, 7 drinks, and the 4 meals. We go out to eat quite a bit and don't mind paying for a good meal. I didn't eat my dinner because the lobster was so tough. The manager offered to get me something else, but just ended up taking my meal off the check. Nice of him, but it was just very disappointing considering the price of things and expecting a good meal. read more

just there this last weekend, my wife and I have going there for years, Great Great Food.We were seated in the cafe near the bar area . We had second thoughts about the location,it was very loud and a band was setting up.While we were eating our dinner the cafe area emptied out and we were the only diners left in the cafe. it was about 8:30 or so.I guess she was a manager but this women came in the room and started to supervise the moving of tables and setting up.We had no problem with that but the band stated to play and she started to scream at everyone.We felt very uncomfortable and got the feeling she wanted us out of there.She seated us there and we told her about our feelings of being so near the bar.I'm not saying nobody should move around us but with her screaming and the band we called for our check and left. Oh and the staff kept on looknig at us like to say they were sorry.Sorry to say a great Italian meal was ruined.Oh and when we got there the place was very empty so it wasnt like these were the only seats left.But our waiter a young girl was great and the food was delicious .I had the veal abruzzi and my wife had veal francese.Don't know when we will be back read more
