I was very surprised by how much I ended up loving Fin Sushi Bar! For Chicago, this is going in my Top Three spots to grab some amazing rolls at affordable prices. My coworker recommended I try this spot after he had gone out on a date here. According to him, the rolls were phenomenal. Oh, and it's BYOB. WIN! That was enough for me to book a table for my friends and I to try for ourselves. You don't have to have Japanese workers to make a great sushi restaurant. For me, the appetizers and rolls best other sushi places I've eaten in the Windy City. We started off with the Marinated Seaweed Salad and Agedashi Tofu. The salad was layered with sesame seeds, and there was plenty of it! The tofu had a nice golden layer and did not feel heavy at all. Dip that into the ponzu sauce and you're set. The real winner here was the Sea Toast Roll ($14), which was spicy snow crab and avocado (yes California!) wrapped with grilled ika and ebi. Both fishes were lightly grilled and placed on top of each roll. The combination was delicious! On top of that, the so-called "seafood mayo sauce" they included on the plate was heaven. Add that with no corkage fee BYOB and we were set! If only Fin was close to the south side- I would be here much more often to try more of their rolls. If you are planning to come on a weekend, definitely make reservations as it can get pretty busy up in here. read more

Tried this spot based on yelp reviews and it was great!! We both tried 2 rolls and app and everything we tried was wonderful! I tried the honey walnut - very delicious for a non fish loving person! This roll had a sweetness that gave the roll lots of flavors! Yum!!!! My favorite I tried! And Sante Fe - also delicious but not as flavorful as the Honey Walnut. They have an awesome lunch menu! $9.95 for two rolls! I order-in from here quite a bit since my office is close by. I usually order the philly roll and a crispy spicy tuna. Last weekend my husband I ate here for lunch. We sat on their lovely sidewalk patio. It is so beautifully decorated but unfortunately the huge tree the patio is situated under just kept dropping leaves and such on our table, in our soy sauce, water, etc. We could have sat under the one umbrella.. Just didn't think about it at first. Order their Thai iced coffee. You won't be sorry. It's delicious! They are BYOB, they have some rules regarding BYOB so call ahead to ask. read more

Came here for lunch recently. Ordered the Bacon Cream Cheese Wontons and the Chicken Teriyaki lunch special. Ended up being pretty underwhelmed by the food. The bacon-cream cheese wonton resembles in practice an elevated crab Rangoon, but the bacon was barely there. On the other side the chicken teriyaki bento box offers a sizable portion, but I wish they picked a chewier short grain rice, rather than the jasmine rice they used. read more

I think this place is great and I've given them 5 star reviews before but my last delivery was strange in that I ordered two bowls of soup and four sushi rolls. Was recommended this place while visiting for the weekend, and we could not* have been happier- the food was not only so well priced for what we were given, it was amazing*!!!! This is a pretty great addition to the neighborhood. It's been open for about a year and I'm happy to see them doing well. Every time that I stop in or walk by, they are doing a healthy business, and weekend nights are downright bustling. The best thing about the crowds is their diversity. I see couples, pairs and groups of friends, all sorts of family configurations (including many children), basically anyone and everyone. They all must have similar opinions to mine--namely that the food is good. Both the basic maki (e.g. negi-hamachi) and the fancier maki (e.g. tom yum) are winners. Recently I finally tried a hot entree, in this case the tom yum fried rice. While I would have liked to find more vegetables, the flavor was solid and the dish was not at all oily. There was a nice, unexpected grilled taste, and the shrimp was fresh and plump. As a bonus, they have a very navigable website and a comprehensively utile online ordering system. They give you 15% off your first online order and then send you a courteous follow-up email and short survey. Winner. read more

We LOVE this place. I almost don't want to write this review because I want to keep it a secret for just us (and those who have discovered it). I don't want to tell you to get the Crispy Spicy Crab nor do I want to tell you to get two rolls of it because you'll love it. We've been here twice now (it *might* be twice within the last two weeks. don't judge) and we've loved everything we've ordered so far. The service is excellent, the pricing is reasonable, and it's in nice quiet location. On their site they say they deliver now. This could spell disaster for our nights out but it's totally worth it. I'm a Fin fan. The location is perfect for me so perhaps I'm biased, but I just love a sushi lunch special that's valid any day of the week. For $13 you get two rolls and cup of miso soup. The best part is that it's available on the weekends and for take out as well. Now they've introduced a loyalty card, where if you get 5 lunch specials, the 6th is free. Woohoo! My only complaint is that I'm about 3 in and they just now introduced the card :( Thier regular rolls are pretty much standard, the Philly, tempura, etc are all good but nothing outstanding. Where they shine for me are the specialty rolls. There are a few very unusual rolls that were so good, my fiance who doesn't even eat sushi very much enjoyed them. The Tom Yum roll sounds better than it's execution. It really does have a Tom Yum flavor to it, but I'll stick with the soup. There was a roll that I can't think of off the top of my head, but it had bacon on it and it was so scrumptous! It's not super cheap but it isn't unreasonable either and if you are going to dine in, it's BYOB so what you spend in sushi you save in libations! Win-Win! read more

Fin is a wonderful sushi joint with a comfortable atmosphere and about 12-15 tables. It's BYOB which is always a plus. The service was very attentive and helpful. Now for the food... I am pretty critical when it comes to sushi, and Fin definitely passed the test. We were given a complimentary amuse-bouche of Bacon Wontons upon being sat. Yeah, they were amazing! Next, we had the miso soup, which was perfect. For our entree, we split the following rolls: Spicy California - Excellent Spicy Crunch Tuna - Wonderful! I got take out here my first time and it was a mind blowing experience. Like, the ABSOLUTE BEST sushi I've had in Chicago. I'm from South Florida and know lots about good sushi. This place could easily compete with any sushi spot in SoFlo. That's how amazingly delicious this sushi is at Fin's. I did my usual Saturday night take out - they have very quick delivery, too - and decided to try this true gem. Hot damn I am so glad I did! I tried the lemon grass fried rice (with salmon), a spicy salmon roll, a Chicago wasabi roll, and a snow burn special roll. Everything I ordered surpassed my wildest fishy dreams. The Chicago and Snow rolls were huge, like un-hinge your jaw to eat in one bit huge. I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to snap a quick picture...but when I popped the take out boxes open, the aromas of the food was so taunting I dug right in. So go see the rolls for yourself. Go. I loved this place the first time I ate there.Today I went there to celebrate my new job and to my disappointment, they denied me a 4 top table because all of the parties they had in their books. The place was nearly empty when we first walked in and by the time we left, they only had 4 people walk in to sit in the outdoor patio area. We agreed to sit outside instead. I was excited to try a very nice bottle of wine that we purchased for my celebration. The server came out with kid like sippy cups for our wine. I asked if they could please bring out regular wine glasses like my last visit and they went in and spoke to manager and said no that regular wine glasses were not allowed outdoors per management. By then, I was seriously annoyed with them and I just asked to go back inside to drink put of adult glasses. We went back inside again and the woman asked if the smaller table was ok. I asked, do I even have a choice? She said no, you dont with a smile which made me want to crawl out of my skin. The place remained empty. The food was mediocre and I guess their bad service and rude wait staff has affected their business. The good news is that Chicago is overflowing with excellent restaurants and I never have to go there again. read more

My husband and I tried this new restaurant last Friday night. Based upon other favorable reviews by fellow Yelpers, we decided to check Fin out and we are glad that we did. Fin has fresh ingredients and comes across as a high end sushi place at moderate sushi prices. Great addition to Ravenswood. The decor: nice, romantic, relaxing, modern and tasteful (especially like the music) The service: excellent-friendly and attentive The food-everything we tried was very tasty. We tried three different rolls and a noodle dish. The "Chills" (or something like that) roll was one of the best I have had. To me, this place is better than Tank in Lincoln Square in all categories (although I do like Tank also.) Based upon comments we heard from other customers while we were there, everyone enjoyed their food. A big plus is BYOB with no corkage fee. I thought the prices were reasonable given the quality of the food, the service, etc. Our bill for two people (w/o tip) was around $45.00 and we had plenty of food. It's been a while since I was there I can't remember what we ordered, but I do remember ordering some mango roll with which the mango was quite tough and I found it a slightly unpleasant texture. We loved our dinner here and plan on many return visits. Excellent service and a good value.

Mediocre tiny portions. It's a good thing, I guess, that the portions are small, because they all tasted basically the same.

Tried their veggie trio roll. It includes asparagus tempura, sweet potato tempura, fried plantain, cream cheese, spicy mayo and unagi sauce. I'd never had a vegetarian roll like this before. They really do a good job at balancing textures and flavors. They are definitely a bit on the pricier side for veggie rolls but they packed a lot into the rolls. No skimping on ingredients here. Will definitely be back especially in the warmer months when they open their patio. In the summer I used to walk by and see people sitting under the lights of their patio and it looked so cute. Inside they have a mixture of tables and booths. Their windows are basically floor to ceiling so I'd recommend getting a table by the window if you like people watching. When I looked at the menu for Fin, I was really excited by the large selection of rolls. I ordered the volcano roll and the yellow dragon roll. The volcano roll sounded delicious on paper, with a variety of different fish in the roll. The roll was overpowered by the mayo placed on top. The pieces were so large that they were hard to fit in my mouth and the mayo was all over-- kind of entertaining for my dinner date! The yellow dragon was average, but I felt like it was hard to differentiate between flavors-- the all kind of mushed together. On a good note, the house salad was tasty, a little more sweet than I expected. The service was friendly and the patio was super cute. Great spot for a byob, outdoor night! read more

Not too happy with Fin these days. The last few times I've been, it seems like the food quality has steadily declined. On our most recent visit, it was unpleasant all across the board. - Edamame tasted "off" - maybe it was old, or stale, or something? - The spicy tuna rolls were SUPER mushy, bad texture, falling apart - The salmon in my salmon teriyaki was overcooked - We ordered a side of the super white tuna nigiri - super white tuna is one of the kings of fish and it should be buttery soft and delicious. We could not bite through this, it was so tough and rubbery. It got sent back. I actually filled up a lunch card at this last visit so I have a free meal coming to me, and I still am reluctant to go back. That should speak volumes for itself. read more

Fin Sushi is a nice, clean place on a quiet little corner. We felt a little rushed to order because the server kept coming up to us and asking us what we wanted before we had a chance to look. We ordered a few things to share. Great edamame. My crab rolls were delicious. My friend's California rolls kept falling apart, she couldn't grab them with chopsticks. Unacceptable for a sushi place.
