I must say, I enjoy going to fins for a date night, or maybe to have and appetizer and a few adult drinks. It's a nice clean comfortable and professional setting. Fins has very tasty salads. I like the lake st clair salad. Last night my wife and I sat at the bar for a salad and a few drinks. I Inquired on if they had bells hopslam. She said hang on let me see if I can change the keg. She couldn't. She did offer to run across the road in an ice storm to the sister location the wooden valve and bring me a pitcher of hop slam. i declined and got a awesome makers mark and coke instead.....That is amazing service. Update: We've been back a few times now and it is much better. Each time has been a lunch meal, either with friends or just the two of us. The menu is good, my husband enjoys the chip-fries. The food is solid and there is enough variety in options without the menu being too big. I would say if you are in town, you would be well suited going to Finn's now! We've been here three times, once when they first opened and needed a little help and twice after they re-opened. The second and third times were definitely better than the first, but I was still waiting for friendly local service. There was a lot of clicks of people and waitresses, and since we weren't part of that our service was ok but not stellar. We were seated by the door downstairs once and upstairs another time, both times I was very cold and ate with my coat on. The feel of this place is very much a bar instead of a restaurant. So, if that's what you are looking for, you'd do well to grab a pitcher and give a holler to your favorite waitress! read more

The Bloody Mary Salmon, oh my GOD THE BLOODY MARY SALMON!!! This was one of the specials today. I don't know what else was on special, because this was so good I can't remember. It was a grilled salmon fillet on a bed of tomato risotto, topped with a cream sauce and tomato olive salad. Perfectly filling, perfectly delicious, perfectly.....well, perfect. Third time's the charm, I guess... I finally got into Fin's. I came in at about 5 on a Tuesday evening and they were a little over half capacity up and downstairs. Ordered at the table were the cheesesteak sandwich, spaghetti and meatballs, and salmon burger -- which is what I got. Before I dive into that though, the look of this place is great. From what I can tell, they have the original floors to give it a bit of a rustic look, but everything else is updated, and it has a really nice aesthetic. There's also even an elevator inside for people who need to use it. Before going upstairs, I got a quick look into the bottom floor area and noticed a good amount of seating and a bar. To me, the downstairs area was a little more crammed than upstairs. Up there, there's another bar, and it looks just as nice as the bottom floor. There are eight beer taps, at least half of which seemed to be (from what I could see) craft beers. It's not a large bar area, but it probably seats about ten to twelve and looks really nice. Alright, the food. First, I'm a bit confused... do they have two kitchens at Fin's? It would appear that way, unless there's a second stairwell in the back of the place. Anyway, it took about twenty minutes to get our main courses after getting our salad/soup/etc. The salad is what it is. It's right out of a bag, and has some iceburg lettuce, red romaine, and carrots. What's really good about the salad though is the bleu cheese dressing. Honestly, the best I've had anywhere. Clearly homemade, and it tastes great. I put my bread in it. The beef stew was passable -- fine and dandy, but nothing stood out about it. The beef was nice and tender though, and the best part about it was that it wasn't too salty, which seems to be a constant problem for a lot of places. The salmon burger... really good. I'd complain that there is just too much dill and arugala on the sandwich, but too much is better than enough in this situation, because you can take it off if you'd like. The spread that's on it is also really nice. The fish was cooked very well, was juicy, and not overly salted. Additionally, the bun they used was great. The fries were a bit limp and about room temperature, but they had a nice flavor, and it appears that they're hand cut as well. The spaghetti and meatballs has one big problem -- the whole dinner plate only had two half dollar sized meatballs on it, which I find pretty unacceptable. As for the sauce, I enjoyed it a lot. It was nice and tangy with only a little bit of sweetness. Basically the ideal spaghetti sauce. The meatballs were pretty tasty, but nothing to brag about. A pretty simple, but well executed plate of spaghetti, it just needs at least a couple more meatballs on the plate. The cheesesteak is one of the better renditions I've had in Michigan. It's certainly not an authentic Philly, but the meat they use is tasty, well seasoned, and piled on fairly for the price you pay. It's also served with a side of really good, certainly house made horseradish sauce. Another winner. Overall, I really like Fin's. It'll take another visit or two before I bump it up to five to make sure my visit wasn't a fluke, but this was a good first impression... if I exclude the two visits I made when I couldn't get in. Blows Camille's By the Bay out of the water in every way: the food tastes much better for a bit of a lower price, the building's aesthetic is far superior, and there's a better selection of beer. (That's always a plus in my book!) They don't do anything "out of the box" (although I wish they would consider it), but they do have well made food in a good location and a great looking building. If this visit was any indication, I expect Fin's to be a staple in downtown New Baltimore. read more

Update :) had family that wanted to try. So we gave it a second try. Was greeted at door by nice hostess who gave us option of sitting. I went a little simpler than last. Great choice! Got the chipotle chicken! Yum yum! We all enjoyed our meals. One got the Mac and cheese burger. He was expecting more cheese in the Mac and cheese bun but it was ok for the special price. Another, shrimp pasta. Good size but over buttered. Last, the fish and fries. He ate it all. However, I asked for no potato but coleslaw and veggies on side. I was given and charged for potato and two sides: ( I wasn't paying so I was told to shrug it off. In summary. Food is good but service is too much in hurry that they don't always get order correct. Darn... I really wanted to like this place... I gave it an extra star because the service was outstanding. Other wise it would be a low 2. It started off great, we were seated quickly and we ordered a couple of Bloody Mary's, mine with a Corona chaser. Mine was great! My wife's on the other hand,... Well... Not so good. The celery stick was rotten and moulty. Ugh, the water was good. I had the BBQ burger with jalapeño slices that was on special and my wife had the Lemon chicken. Here's where it starts down hill. Burger over cooked, not that big of a deal, jalapeño raw sliced long ways with the seeds in it, I'll be paying for that later tonight. The lemon chicken with capers... 2 bites and done, the veggies, yuck, and buttered noodles side. Oh well... I've been to Fins a few times and have really enjoyed it. It's a cute little place in historic downtown New Baltimore. Starting with cocktails: I love the St. Clair punch. It is just my thing flavor-wise, with rum, Malibu rum, orange juice, sprite, and it happens to be the color of a sunset. So good. They have a nice cocktail, beer, and wine menu. Recently my husband and I went for dinner on a busy Friday night. The food was excellent. We started with the baked brie appetizer, which I'd highly recommend if you don't mind brie with honey on toasted bread. Yummy! For the meal he ordered the ahi tuna salad, which he loved. It's good they have it on the menu because there aren't a ton of healthier options. I decided to go seasonal and try one of the specials, which was whitefish fixed in a sort of autumnal way. I sure do wish I'd have taken a picture of the menu description now, because I have no idea how to describe it other than mmm mmm! Very flavorful and so perfect for the season. Let's see if I can kind of describe it: lightly breaded whitefish on a bed of maybe butternut squash risotto, with pumpkin seeds and topped with some shredded brussels sprouts and dried cranberries. Not sure, all I know is I don't regret ordering it. The seafood specials are kind of pricy. That was $18.95 and the perch was around $21. My meal came with a nice salad that was a good way to start the meal. We never have seemed to have room for dessert here, but another customer once told me to try the apple pie or apple crisp, saying it was "to die for". If they still have it next time I go back, I'm adding it to my list! Service was good, friendly and efficient. Go for ribs. Just ribs. Don't bother with anything else, except for, maybe, the Clam Chowder or something. JUST ORDER THE RIBS. I love these ribs. They are my favorite preparation form, right here. They used to be available at The Oxford Inn in Royal Oak, but now they're here. These are fall-off-the-bone, charred under the broiler, sweet, tangy sauced ribs, and they make me so, so happy when I have them. They are not inexpensive...actually, they're a bit pricy on the ribs spectrum, but they are worth it, in the same way that Stage Deli's corned beef sandwich is worth it, though that's high priced as well. I've always found the service and cleanliness of the place to be completely acceptable. Nothing that wowed me in any way, but certainly serviceable or better. Besides: if the ribs are good, I'd probably be happy with a trained orangutan in a suit. I wish they were closer to me than they are...but they're worth the occasional drive. I went here yesterday with my two girlfriends. We shared a caprese salad that was great. I ordered a steak for dinner and asked for it medium rare. It came well done. I also asked for zip sauce and it came out cold and like a jelly. My friends salads came out beautiful. The owner took my steak back to be redone. By the time I received it, my friends were done eating. My steak was cooked beautifully the second time and the zip sauce was delicious, but my potato was raw. Two dollars was taken off my bill. Delicious, absolutely delicious tonight! For drinks, we enjoyed the classic old-fashion and cranberry margarita. Both drinks were spot on- kudos to the bartender! For appetizers, we indulged and had the calamari and Rockefeller oysters. Both delicious! Before our main course, we had the tasty clam chowder. And lastly, for dinner, we had the amazing lightly breaded white fish (with sun dried tomatoes) with fried risotto balls. Seriously, amazing! This place is a little gem and I'm so thankful it is only 7 minutes from my house! The only setback is the upstairs seating area which is uncomfortable and feels a bit banquet-y. But, if seating is available downstairs, you can always ask to sit downstairs. It is a much better experience to enjoy your delicious meal! read more

Onion soup was definitely too salty that neither my husband or I could eat it. Our Waitress wouldn't even try it and said the Manager said it was a "little" salty compared to normal. We ordered the Rib Family Pack and really enjoyed it! I added on fries but they weren't as good but I feel that's overall with any carry-out fries. We ordered online, they gave us a time it would be ready, and it was! I signed up for curbside and it was less than 2 minutes from phone call to food at my window. The ribs were super tasty, same with the macaroni and cheese, and it was a good sized salad. Only thing - we need more ribs! It would have been nice to be able to add on a half-slab for like $10. I came in with a friend who lives out of town I was so excited to show her downtown New Baltimore I have a two-month-old baby so I packed him up into his stroller we went inside Fin's. As soon as we walked in all the workers just stared at us and ignored us for a few minutes. Until a waitress rudely told me I couldn't have a stroller inside. I had to take baby back outside in the 10 degree weather and snow walk to my car a few blocks away and put my stroller away and walk back in. I thought to myself what if I had been in a wheelchair? Would they have denied service to me? I think a big part of having a family restaurant is making sure families feel welcome. We sat down and the same waitress who said no strollers came to the table her name was Missy. My friend order her lunch and missy did not hear her state her order and shouted what did you say !? Made her feel super uncomfortable. We were in the corner of the restaurant and my friend did not take her coat off the entire meal because it was so cold! For the service and the quality of food the prices are WAY to high. I honestly felt like this trip to Fins gave her a bad taste in her mouth about New Baltimore. I will not be back. I want to say only amazing things, but I can't. I absolutely love Fin's for dinner and it is one of my favorite restaurants. We were going at least once every other week for a while. A couple of years ago, they had phenomenal brunch, now it is very disappointing. It's not that the food is bad by any means, it's that they have literally no variety. They're brunch menu only offers eggs or a variation of eggs. There are no sweet options like French Toast or Pancakes, which are very easy options. The owner needs to put some kind of noise absorption or something because we couldnt even hold a conversation it was so loud. The food was good. We had fish and chips, steak and a shrimp pasta dish.
