We were excited when we saw the pictures of fintique and went to check it out from the google page. But it was a different story once inside. It looked nothing like the pictures. While there was a large variety of fish, some very hard to find, the tanks were VERY unclean and the animals I saw more dead fish in the aquariums here than in Petco, and PETSMART combined. The staff all seemed very aggravated, and were unfriendly, when we asked for assistance they seemed inconvenienced by it. As for the interior, rather than heating the tanks, the entire room was heated, and this is usually fine, but it was much too hot for many of the species inside. The stock on the shelves of hard scape other items were dirty and dusty and priced high. Nearly ALL PLANTS that were for sale were dead. It is unclean, overpriced and unhealthy for the animals. Don't shop here. I wanted so bad to like fintique, but my wife and I were very disappointed. read more

Well you just lost a valued customer, spent about 400 dollars on three different visit. You guys were wonderful but terrible as you hung up on me because I'm deaf and had to use Internet and third caller to help communicate on phone, sad as it is, I live in Boerne as I would be happy to take the drive if you have them in the store which is why I called. Exquisite collection of tropical fish and invertibrates from all around the world! I came here with my husband to purchase a new fish for my husbands saltwater aquarium. We went on a Thursday to take advantage of the 25% discount applied to new shipment. The selection was incredible and I could have looked around for hours. It was a bit uncomfortable in there due to the humidity, but the staff is incredibly knowledgeable and accomodating. I would recommend coming in and checking out the selection even if you do not have an aquarium. The colors and varieties of fish are incredible! read more

Fintique is a great place to buy freshwater fish as they have almost all of the store dedicated to them, but if your looking for saltwater fish it may not be the best place for you to start looking. Prices are VERY affordable, especially if your looking to buy a new tank! The owner of the store is there most of the time and is very knowledgeable about what he sells, although the rest of the employees may not be quite as good, they are all very helpful and willing to help you out. read more

We were fish tank virgins when we went to Fintique. They were so helpful in getting us started down to picking how many and what kind of fish go together. We have now been successful for over 3 years. We go back all the time and the service continues to be excellent! Great prices and selection of fish. All of the fish I purchased for my outdoor pond have survived, and I got them for far less than what I paid at a corporate pet store from which all the fish died. I asked a gentleman about algae eaters and he gave me recommendations as well as the potential growth of the different species that I purchased. I was also looking for turtle food and the selection was a bit limited, however If I ever need fish again I'll surely return. read more

We live in an apartment, so fish are our pets...this store is awesome. They actually remember what you have purchased in the past and make recommendations for your specific tank. I recently went in to ask a question about my beta...they knew when I purchased the beta..his age...offered info on his condition. I didn't have to offer up any info, they just knew my specific fish. Also, when I have considered purchasing things I don't need or that won't go well with our tank, instead of simply making the sale, they actually will steer me towards what is best and most cost effective for my tank. Love this place. This is the first place I check for any fish that I am needing. The staff here is more than willing to help with any questions. I was there this past weekend and there was a couple there looking to add some fish. The guy helping them was giving them advise on what they should look into buying based on what they wanted. They had tons of questions and he had tons of answers. Every time I go here it is the same with all of the people working here. Another great is their website is updated weekly with fish stocking lists. Great place to even just visit!!! Only reason for no 5 star is really no peacock cichlid selection. I found Fintique a couple of months ago. Being in the hobby of fish aquariums it is nice to go to a place that is time tested, well established, and has really mature and healthy fish. They have wonderful fish but they are always sick. Customer is great but when you buy cheap fish you bad results. They have no warranty on there fish. Bad thing is if you get a weak fish and it dies before you get home they will not replace it. I had fish for years never had a problem but you don't know about fish the you won't notice that some they sale show signs of ick i thought twice about getting any but still went ahead now i regret it lousy my money and fish. I wouldn't suggest any one with a exotic fish hobby to buy from there unless it's gold fish or something cheap! I don't mind buying more because doing that insure your going to get a healthy fish. By far the best shop I have come by ... AMAZING selection, clean tanks, great customer service, very knowledgeable, and unbelievable prices. Their massive shrimp selection is what brought me in and their prices beat EVERYONE in the area lol I checked. Not only that but the gentleman that helped me was patient enough to pick the exact shrimp or fish I wanted out of the tank. After many years of being away I re-discovered Fintique. I had a horrible die off in my tank. After a lengthy research process I discovered that a particular prescription drug would solve my problem. I called 3 local vets that deal in exotics here in San Antonio. Visited another 2. Called around fish stores, no help. Called Fintique and got a lead that let me to my solution. I wish I would have called them first. I was stress with the lack of knowledge by every one i called. I cannot express how great full I am. THANK YOU! Not too bad. I'm from a town of about 250,000 where we only had one fish store - however, I would definitely wager that it was better than Fintique in terms of fish selection and presentation of tanks, especially saltwater. The tanks at Fintique are all healthy (except for guppy tanks on occasion, but given industry standards of guppy breeding, that is absolutely not their fault!) but they look pretty run-down. I have yet to find a location in San Antonio where would recommend purchasing saltwater fish from. Most of their saltwater fish are tiny and kept in dark little tanks - usually I don't like to purchase saltwater fish at an extremely small size for a number of reasons. Use your own judgement. However, if you're looking for freshwater fish, it's pretty nice. They have a decent selection of plants which all look very healthy. I appreciate that they have an updated stock list. Keep in mind, while you can get some amazingly cheap fish, you're usually gonna get a much smaller fish. Make sure to read the measurements that they very kindly put on their webpage! Every fish and plant I've purchased so far has done really well. It's confusing to find staff because they don't wear any sort of store t-shirt, so if it's your first time going, you kinda have to wait until someone asks if you need any help. The staff know what they're talking about, and I would absolutely trust their advice. I was helped by a very sweet individual with bright blond hair a few times. It was great to be asked if there was a particular fish/plant I wanted every time I came in. Overall, it's much better than other fish stores in town. It's not perfect, but it's not at all a bad place. P.S. - I'm assuming they don't offer a guarantee to keep their prices low. Personally, I don't have a problem with this. Most LFS won't offer much of a guarantee on delicate expensive fish anyway. As it stands though, I've yet to have any of my little schooling fish die, but I would be happy to give Fintique a couple bucks to get some replacements if I had to. read more

We will definitely never go back to this establishment. We bought several fish from this location and one of them unfortunately didn't make it. With my luck it was the one that cost me $20. I called and spoke to Russ, who claimed was the owner, who wasn't understanding whatsoever. He ademately told me that there were signs all over the store saying that there are no warranty or guarantee on any livestock. I have visited many of pet stores in my life and have never been to one where they don't give you some kind of warranty. This will be the first and the last time I will visit this location.
