Place recommended by good friends. Met another couple for lunch on Sunday. First off, the owner is definitely rude - never smiled once, didn't make you feel in the least bit comfortable or like he wanted you there, never came by the table to see how things were, just sat with his family and ate the whole time. Whoever said they're treated like family in this place must BE family, because it was the first thing I noticed. Next, the bartender, while nice enough, was another unsmiling, hard to understand, individual. He was also the waiter. Had to keep asking him to repeat what he was saying. I in no way have a problem with anyone willing to work, but let's work on being courteous to paying customers, and enunciating what's on a menu so it can be understood the first time. So, the drinks were pretty good. The appys were so-so. The entrees were pretty ok. I had pappardelle in ragu sauce, and while it was tasty, it was not hot and looked like a child's portion. Note, there was one other table taken - so not like they were too busy to get hot food to the table. All in all, I wouldn't recommend going to this restaurant and spending that amount of money for so-so food and for being treated rudely. I can overlook a lot of things when dining out, but rudeness, especially from an owner trying to survive, isn't gonna cut it. I would recommend going to Marina Cafe - their food is excellent and their staff and waiters know how to treat customers. You might pay more, but it's worth it. read more

At first it appears like everywhere you want to be on a nice summer weekend. Better than most service -wise but unfortunately the food was a big disappointment. This is the 2nd time we went here. Both times for lunch. I love this place! The food is excellent, the service helpful. This time, in a party of 5, two had seafood fra diablo and all the seafood was perfectly done, especially the lobster, which is not easy to do. There were two veal dishes and a vegetable risotto. All fish dishes had no taste except for a strong fishy taste. It was probably fresh but they use the same fish stock in the sauce which made it taste horrible. Chicken dish was tough and overcooked. The only thing that was good was the First Mare salad which is pretty hard to mess up. Main dining room so loud you can't hear the waiter or talk without yelling to people at the table. Outside room is too cold or very hot when the heat goes on and off... A definite thumbs down.... read more

Theresa M. Is correct in her post from 2013. Attended a party recently where I brought the celebration cake. The cake was a three tier cake to feed 100 people. Only the top tier was cut into paper slices. 97 were at the celebration. I was told after cake and coffee that most of the cake was brought into kitchen and not every guest received a piece of cake. I approached one of the waiters and demanded the cake back. I got it back uncut. Who does this? Another guest brought trays of cookies. Not all the trays were open and those disappeared. I only wish I read Theresa M post prior to the party this way I would have been prepared. In case your wondering why they would take the cake it's simple. They sell it as dessert after you leave. Absolutely horrible. I've had better service at a hot dog stand. The baked clams were fishy. The grilled octopus was tough and rubbery. When we told the waiter he got annoyed. Never once did anyone apologize or ask if the rest of our meal was ok The steak was racid. It smelled horrible. The chillian seabass was dry like sand. Potatoes and vegetables was cold. Had a party at Fiore DI Mare..The location is beautiful and so is the decor. The wait staff is very friendly...However, Lets start with the manager who is unfriendly and rude, Never says hello or goodbye. Ben decided it was appropriate to wear a white tshirt to work that very special day..At no time did he thank us for our business of 50 people. At one point we asked for some background music and his reply was "this is not a night club" My guests were never informed that the wine and beer was included in their dinner..Food portions were very small and their veal scaloppini was veal with lemon on it. I Brought cookies and cake, they were pouring coffee and I had to ask them to put out the our desert's..I do not recommend this restaurant for a party food is OK...need a new manager that knows how to treat guests or maybe he can watch an episode of restaurant stakeout read more

Just went to the soft opening the place is beautiful staff great service good owners came around to greet u. Sat at bar first barmaid were great friendly. One complaint I have my husband had a manhatten and I had a tequilla with club soda nothing fancy the bar bill was 39$ very expensive like manhatten really!!! the wines are more reasonable and the bottles. The food was nice home made pasta red snapper great grilled calamari good but small portions too much salad and was bitter flavor. We will return again but will not order drinks at bar. read more

Not welcoming and when an "Italian" named restaurant spells Osso Bucco, Osso Buko, that's a good sign.... Staten Island has excellent Italian food and restaurants (and I live in the city and feel that pound-for-pound that this is a strength of Staten Island) so don't waste your time at this place. read more

We stumbled upon this place while visiting a family member. Was near a cute playground around the docks where the big yachts were. We were hungry and thought it looked quaint. Much to our surprise, this place might be small and tucked away, but it is BIG in heart and food. We ordered a variety of menu items such as gnocchi, seared tuna, sea bass and some salads. All were delicious and wonderfully prepared. There were a ton of specials offered, but the menu itself was fantastic as well. I would highly recommend this little joint to anyone looking for a wonderfully fantastic Italian meal. Fresh and fabulous! read more

Originally we were going to Coles, next door, kind of tired of them, tried this place today. Saw the menu prices so we knew it was going to expensive, and my expectations were very high. This place did not meet them. I ordered the antipasti pesce- 14$ was horrible. My father ordered the soup, he liked it. Wife ordered the veal meatballs, she said they sucked, i tried them, and I concur, They did suck. We told they were horrible, and she got a soup instead. Entree- I ordered the seabass, it was pretty good. Father ordered the veal marsala- he said it was mediocre at best, not worth 26$ wife ordered the most expensive thing on the menu, probably because he was paying. Veal shank, $40 for a little crap piece of veal around a giant bone. Really dissapointing,. I was expecting a real veal shank, not one with all the meat stripped off. Hence, final thoughts, I give it a two. It was clean, nice area, however way overpriced, for 3 people, bill came to 146$ thats alot of money for mediocre food. Very dissapointed. We were there on Mother's Day. I was sorely disappointed. Usually, the food is excellent. But on Mother's Day, they had a special menu, and there seemed to be less food on the plates. I was so looking forward to the linguini with mixed seafood. It wasn't the same as when I normally ordered it in the past. All they had in the pasta was a couple of shrimp and these little teeny baby scallops, and calamari. There were no clams or mussels. We also felt very rushed. Every time you turned around, they were taking something off of the table. I was still eating my pasta and they just took came and took away the cheese. We had to ask for it back. The bread which is normally nice and warm was cold and very very crusty. It tasted like day-old bread. We will go back again because as I said, normally the food is excellent, but never on Mother's Day again. read more

I liked this place but my wife was less than thrilled. I had the Scalapine Martini which I thought was very good & the portion size was good. My wife had the Chicken over spinach,which she thought was okay. The menu choices are limited and many of them are spicy to one degree or another and my wife has zero tolerance for spice (or pepper for that matter). We arrived at 7:00 on Wednesday. Waiter came over about 7:10. I asked for a pre fixe menu and was told that it was only until 7:00. It doesn't say that at all online, just says Tuesday until Friday and cannot be more than 10 people. The restaurant was empty except for one other couple at another table. He offered us specials that I had read on the pre fixe menu. Coconut shrimp was dry and tasted reheated. My husband and I ordered the Chilean sea bass. The fish was very thin and grey in color, shrimp that came with it were the smallest I've ever seen. The fish was not fresh at all. I've been to this restaurant before and was always very satisfied. I would love to give them 4 stars because the food was actually really good. I had squid ink linguine and it was great. The calamari was cooked perfectly not rubbery or chewy (you'd be surprised how many restaurants screw this up). However, their low rating is a direct result of the awful service. They are rude, nasty people who act like they don't have the time of day for you. It was a hot day and we wanted to sit outside but they kept telling us the fans weren't working. The lights on the fans were on so that made no sense. It was too hot with no breeze so we asked to move inside. Not before we got an eye roll from 2 different people. The waiter stuck his arm in my face about 16 times and slammed the plates down with a nasty look on his face the whole time. I called the day before to ask about the fixed menu and they told me it was for up to 8 people. When we got there with 7 people, the number magically changed to 6 so we ended up spending over $300 on a mediocre dinner. Oh and finally, they put ZERO effort into their birthday dessert (see picture). Im not asking for a dance party, but a smile wouldnt hurt. If you ask me? It's not worth the good, albeit expensive, food for the terrible service. Go somewhere else. There are plenty of places with great food AND great service (yes, fiore di mare, this is an actual thing! Who knew?!) For example, a GREAT little place called Cole's Dockside is about a 15 foot walk. A friend of mine told me about this restaurant a few years, and told me to go I won't be disappointed! Well he was on the money this restaurant was "Excellent". We started with a stuffed pepper which was outstanding, (I know my stuffed peppers and this was the best I ever had); a crab cake which was very tasty! Then we had a carder salad that was good as well, for dinner I had Veal Martini which was unbelievable cooked to perfection, my bride had a sesame crusted tuna which she raved about and said "this is the best tuna I ever had".... A couple of glasses of Pinot for her, and I had a few Stoli O & Tonic, and an espresso martini to end the night. The restaurant gave us complimentary lemonchello which was a nice touch to a spectacular dinner. The service was OK; which means it could have been a little better considering it wasn't crowded. But I will definitely be going back, and if your haven't gone I would say Go you won't be disappointed! read more

Not happy. The place was pretty empty on a Saturday night at 730pm- that should have been my first sign.. My husband and I ordered a salad (not bad) and the antipasto seafood platter, no taste at all! For my entree I ordered Rigatoni with broccoli rabe and asked them to hold the shrimp since I already had seafood in our appetizer... the pasta and broccoli rabe also had no flavor whatsoever- tasteless. I asked for grated cheese, I also added salt and red pepper flakes.. it helped only a slight bit.. the best part is: we get our bill and were CHARGED for the shrimp that I didn't order on the pasta. I was pretty annoyed and felt the need to say something. My husband told me to let it go but I just couldn't. It wasn't about the money at this point, it was the principal of taking advantage of a customer.. I pulled over another waiter since ours disappeared after her dropped the check to our table. The waiter apologized but didn't do anything about it. My husband again said let it go and took my hand to leave. I told the waiter I didn't want the money back for my missing shrimp but to let their manager know it's not right to rob their customers. We won't be visiting this place ever again. The best italiant restaurant. Food, service, atmosphere the best, what else can u expect from a restaurant

I ate here two weeks ago with some friends because it was recommended as a nice Italian restaurant on the water. The place is very nice the service is so awful. There were two other tables when I dined here and for some reason it still took fifteen minutes after being seated to get the waiter to come greet us. We were sat and not given the pre fixe menus, we had an hour before the pre fixe ended, it felt like the wait staff was avoiding taking our orders so we couldn't ask for the pre fixe menu and save money. When the waiter finally came over we ordered a pitcher of sangria, it took twenty minutes for it to come to the table. There were two other tables in the empty restaurant and it took twenty minutes for our drink, ridiculous. The pre fixe compared to the surrounding restaurants is pretty pricey, it's $28 and it didn't include dessert. Every other place on the street gives you a lot more for their pre fixes', some even give you wine. So if you're looking for a good pre fixe deal this isn't the place for you. Since the wait staff was so slow at everything it took us over two hours to eat our small portion apps and entrees. I will say the sangria is delicious but for the prices and wait time I'll take my business else where. read more

I constantly critique (positive or negative) restaurants to family and friends. Everyone tells me I should write a review online. This restaurant has the honor of being my first. Hopefully the owners will read this and for my 100th review they will make a few changes, if they can. I have eaten there 3 times the past 6 months. As the other reviews show, the food is good or bad. Arugula salad, perfectly dressed (not to much not to little) and each time fresh. Amazing how restaurants can't get the basics right. This place does. Broccoli rabe and sausage, the broccoli blanched perfectly, sautéed perfect combination of oil and broccoli water and garlic. Again the basic Italian cooking done well. Chicken Francese and Marsala, perfectly sauced. Some dishes such as the spaghetti with seafood, perfect cooked pasta - to the tooth, perfect tomato wine sauce, done nice and light. The fish, different size clams not all cooked the same (come on guys really), tiny tiny scallops (why even put them if your not putting bay scallops) the small one that taste like fish-dang, Calamari overcomes, shrimp cooked perfect - what a shame, the dish had promise. The attitude and arrogance they have was mentioned below and does exist. Veal masala is not on the menu but my daughter only likes that so we asked if they can make it, after the waiter spent time trying to get her to order something on the menu he relented but seemed annoyed. Not sure why because the Marsala was spot on and perfect. Again could have made a score here but the attitude ruined it. Next visit we ordered asparagus and after it was in the kitchen we were told it was 86. So we ordered a salad and he placed the order. When we received the check and we commented that the asparagus was still there the waiter said yeah but I didn't put on the salad so no big deal it's the same money. He said that. Well the asparagus was $2 more and I really don't care about $2 but it just adds more to the attitude problem. Customer should come first, bottom line. There were more issues like this then I can mention in this short review, like waitress leaning on you to talk to another customer, literally on you for more than a few seconds, and not apologizing.
