I've been here twice so far and will definitely be coming back! I feel like this is the hip version of my friendly Italian grandmas kitchen! The first I went for dinner with friends...we walked in and found the restaurant to be pretty cozy with a nice warm ambiance and a little on the loud side - it's not the place to go to have an intimate intellectual conversation. We were greeted right away and had delicious special drinks at the bar waiting for our table.as soon as the drinks were done, our table was ready. We ordered a pizza special, Margherita pizza and the pasta candele and pork shoulder - wow the pizza was perfectly crisp crust, doughy center, and the freshest ingredients. And they serve them on jumbo tomato cans!!! The pasta was so fresh it melted in your mouth and was a different than your average macaroni - it was thick, tubular, and perfectly cooked. We had a delightful experience at Fiorella and they were very accommodating for our plant based (vegan) diet. We started with the bean dip anti-pasta that was delicious with a side of bread from Flour City Breads alongside the arugula salted beet salad. Both were great appetizers for two. I have been baking bread and pizza dough and requested to talk with the head Chef Gino Ruggiero, who came out and chatted with us. He isn't a trained bread maker, instead he got started making bread and pizza on his own with King Arthur Flour. Now he sources locally milled flours from upstate New York. I'm fascinated with their simple farm to table approach and the simple approach to food. We ordered the pizza marinara with mushrooms and arugula and it was delicious! The natural levain pizza was light and delicate with a buttery crust, even though there was no butter. The sauce was full of flavor and the crust was bubbly and airy, in a classic Italian crust fashion. The eggplant dish without mozzarella, our second entree to share, was very good. It used thinly slices of eggplant that were cooked to perfection in a fantastic tomato sauce. We asked for 2x the sautéed veggies, which was very good. I tried Fiorella for the first time with out-of-town family. Our experience was disappointing overall. The hostess was very rude to us when we arrived 15 minutes early to our reservation. The place is small and gets very crowded. It was so loud that my dad and I essentially sat in silence because we couldn't hear anything the other was saying. The waiter couldn't even hear my dad and he ended up getting the wrong meal. I got the cacio e pepe and I had to quit after a few bites; it was extremely rich and had way too much black pepper. The only thing we enjoyed about our experience was that the wine is served in quartinos. I do not think it would be worth trying again but perhaps I will give their brunch a try sometime. read more

I honestly don't know what all the hub-bub is about. Yes its 'hand crafted'- but its pasta- its not that hard. The flavors were pretty mellow and watery- fresh does not always equate to robust. The ravioli special was just silly in my opinion- $17 for I kid you not 3 ravioli- which would be ok if they were monsters, but they were 3inch triangles of pasta dough with a quarter sized dollop of filling in the middle. I did not try the pizza or dessert, but I don't feel any need to try again. read more

Oh my gosh this is my favorite restaurant in Rochester. I highly recommend you get their special of the day if it sounds appetizing because it really will be special! I've had their sole on fish Friday (their frutti di mare special) and it was so buttery yet light! Pizza has the lightest, crispest crust I have ever had. Noodles are also great and so are the desserts! Call in advance for a reservation at peak hours or plan to go either very early or late. Very cool spot for brunch at the public mkt. For the uninitiated, it's an order at the counter from a menu and your food is brought to your table kind of setup. There was plenty of seating around 1pm on a saturday but peak public mkt season hasnt started yet. I tried some of the meatball sandwich and it was excellent, can't go wrong with freshly baked crusty bread. The frittata I ordered was also delicious, light and fluffy. Wasn't as impressed with the bombolini as other people were. They have a nice wine selection here which was a nice surprise. Overall a great brunch..couldnt give them 5 stars since it was a good 10 minutes between the time 2 of our sandwiches were brought out and my frittata was. Making one person in a party wait for their food creates unneccessary awkwardness, and had the food not been so good,,yeah this review would have gone waaaay in the opposite direction read more

I hate to have to give this creative, fun restaurant a two star review because the food was very good, and our server was pleasant and attentive. But our meal was terribly rushed to the point of being stressful. We just started looking at the menu when we were asked to place our order. Asked again. And again. We were still enjoying our appetizer when the entree was served. Plates were cleared as soon as the last bite was consumed. After a long work week, I was looking forward to a relaxing meal. I left feeling frustrated and anxious, wishing I had gone somewhere else, or just stayed home. The best thing I can say about how rushed we were is the noise level was giving me a headache, so I was actually relieved to leave. Too bad. read more

Terribly disappointed, while the food was mediocre at best, I had the pork dish, pork was extremely salty pasta was ok, my wife had the gnocchi. Not sure what type of atmosphere they were attempting to create but there is none, google states "Minimalist-chic bistro" I would say that minimalist is correct, however nothing was mentioned regarding the noise level, I have dined in high school cafeterias that had less noise. I prefer to speak in a normal voice & not shout to be heard by my wife sitting directly across from me at a table for two. I'm surprised at some of the reviews that I've read here before adding my own. Fiorella's is a good restaurant, a solid restaurant, but for one reviewer to call it the "best restaurant in Rochester?" Far from it I'm sorry to say. I think that person needs to get out more. First the ambience, definitely a 2 out of 5 stars in this regard. Concrete industrial. Nothing unusual there but nothing that adds to the ambience at all. There is so much potential in this space that is wasted. And the volume is cacophonous. Almost unbearably loud when you have that one table (and there's always one) of diners who have to out shout each other in order to be funny. The restaurant could well do for some acoustic dampening to try and soften the volume. And third, it's not comfortably air conditioned. There's certainly no evidence of AC in the space and on the evening we were there, which was very comfortable outside, the restaurant itself was borderline uncomfortable. At the very least, the air needs to be recirculated as it's a rather stuffy environment. And as far as the seating, not too comfortable either. My recommendation is the outside large table if the weather permits. As for the wait staff, here the restaurant scores well. 5 stars to our waitress and serving staff. Very friendly and very attentive. Here they exceeded expectations. Our dining companion, a very good friend, is a frequent diner at Fiorella, perhaps once a week. His gregarious nature attracts lots of people to him and he knew all of the wait staff (which I'm sure helped). Both my wife and our friend had the chicken cutlets. A rather simple dish but elegantly prepared and as crisp and as tender as could be. They both loved and raved about it. I indeed liked it, but I couldn't help but think that although I've had this dish elsewhere prepared not nearly as well, it still was something that my wife accomplishes quite easily and better at home. For me, I tried the pizza. I wish I had opted for the house-made pasta instead and will next time. Naturally leavened, I found the dough a bit tough and tasteless. Now here I was overruled by my wife who liked the pizza but I still found it neither crispy and thin or well-leavened like a true NY style pizza. The somewhere in-between didn't work for me with the crust (which could have been a bit crisper with 30 seconds more in the oven) and the primavera toppings: mushroom, asparagus, ricotta, fontina, pea tendrils and lemon zest just didn't work. Too bland. Adequate wine offerings but nothing impressive. I do like the little glasses the wine is served in, however, that remind one of a little old Italian grandfather. Overall, a nice place for a quick bite if you don't mind the noise. I'd site outside or at the bar, eat fast, eat fresh, and leave. A solid three and a half out of five, but not the place I'd take a friend to. read more

Cute restaurant with great food! Most of the menu is made in house and/or with local ingredients. Delicious pasta & pizza! The decor and atmosphere is hipster, but not pretentious. They have lots of daily specials. If you forget all the delicious descriptions from your wait staff, check the wall because they are posted there. This is a must try. We couldn't get reservations so we killed a half hour at Cure until a spot at the bar opened up. I had the scallops on risotto. Easily the best risotto I've ever eaten. We go to Fiorella regularly for the byob Wednesday. Always delicious. The chicken cutlet is amazing we get it every time. The pizza can't be beat. Every pizza we have tried is amazing but my favorite is the spicy with cup and char pepperoni, banana peppers and a drizzle of honey. It's amazing. The staff is always great and attentive. This has quickly become our favorite restaurant in town. We come at least once a week, and last week we reached an all-time high of 3x in a week!!! The weekend breakfast pizza is great when you're at the market, but the dinner service is just fantastic. The mortadella pizza would be my death row meal, I can't get enough of it!! The food was absolutely delicious. I had the roman pasta of the day (peas, pecorino, lemon) and it was DIVINE. So simple, yet so delicious. I could've eaten bowls and bowls of it. My boyfriend had the gnocchi special of the day - San Marzano sauce, pesto, potato gnocchi, and summer squash. Also fantastic. Gnocchi was super tender (hard with potato gnocchi) and the pesto and tomato sauce were a great compliment to each other. I subtracted a star for service - after we finished our food, we waited almost 45 minutes for our server to even acknowledge us and offer dessert and the check. Our table was clear, our water glasses were empty... it was pretty obvious we were waiting for her. It's a small place (and not insanely busy from what I could tel), so I'm not really sure where she was or what happened, but none of the other servers or hostesses checked up on us either.
