On Friday, Sept. 21, my boyfriend and I went to the Royal High School Varsity football game where Fire Island Grill has a banner advertising their business. We have heard good things about the place, and we wanted to give it a try. So, knowing that the restaurant is "supposed" to be open for business until 10pm on Fridays, we decided to head right over there after the football game (which ended about 9:30). Fantastic!! Have driven by this place a thousand times and never stopped. Invited by some friend and WOW, have we been missing out! Kids loved it, wife loved it, and so did I. For Simi this is really good food, but I'd rather drive to the valley for teriyaki flavored meals. I tried the fire island bowl with noodles, chicken steak combo and spicy teriyaki sauce on top. The noodles were watered down, the vegetables were a bit soggy, but the steak and chicken was very tender. My order was to-go and the portion was small for $8. My bowl tasted like a microwaveable teriyaki bowl that I can buy from Costco, but with better quality meat. Good food, not great. read more

This place is great. The staff is always so nice and accommodating. We order here every so often for a large work group and they kindly place all staff initials on the orders and always have everything perfect with no mistakes. They even offer to walk out stuff to our cars. My entire staff likes them as well and drive from moorpark to Simi on their lunch breaks often. Fire Island Grill is a new restaurant in Simi Valley, I was very disappointed in the food. I ordered the Fire Island Bowel with fire island rice, char-grilled chicken topped with fire island sauce. The rice was wet and mushy, the chicken was dry and bland however the sauce was flavorful but not enough. The bowel was 3/4th rice and 1/4 chicken . For the price it was not a good value. read more

Ordered delivery today and didn't really care for the food. I ordered the char steak bowl with the teriyaki sauce which tasted too salty. The steak was good. I chose the the fire island rice and it was bland. My daughter ordered the ranch chicken salad and thought it was just okay. They forgot to include the pita bread. Out of all the burger joints I go to this place by far is the best place to go to. Our server Aja was the perfect amount of attention that we needed. She always had a great and honest attitude. Super friendly staff that went above and beyond to make our first experience enjoyable. They explained the different sauces and allowed us to try them all. Even though you order at the counter, they offered to take our food to our table and checked on us as we ate. Food was amazing. Very easy parking....clean.......very helpful staff. They have rice bowls, salads & sandwiches. Its like walking into a Hawaiian diner in Maui. I had a rice bowl with chicken. We ate there yesterday after visiting the Reagan Library with our guide dog puppy. Almost all the Yelp reviews were so good that we had to try it. Easy to find, just turn right at Cancun Street (traffic light) and the place is straight back. Friendly (young) staff and an owner who made sure that things were done right. We both ordered the special of the day, the pork bowl, $7.00 each and that included a fountain drink. I don't drink soda or sugared beverages, so I'm usually limited to iced tea. Here they had sugar free lemonade, so good I went back for more, which almost never happens. As other reviews said, this is a casual place where you order in line and choose your rice or noodles, veggies, protein and sauce. I'm a health nut, so I appreciated the choice of brown rice and the calorie listings on the menu. Hubby doesn't care as long as it tastes good. We were both happy. We saw some other diners with salads, looked yummy. We'll have to eat our way through the menu. We'll definitely be back! Note to the reviewers who didn't think the food was spicy enough: you can bring to your table a bottle of chinese chile sauce which is EXTREMELY hot and spicy. A little goes a long way, so start by adding just a little bit. The menu states that they cater, and suggests a luau, where the individual items are prepared "family style". This place is good and the employees are usually super nice but today I went in and ordered the same thing as usual: a chicken platter but with no mac salad.. in the past, employees have offered me an extra scoop of vegetables since I don't get the mac salad. I cannot eat the macaroni salad because of a medical condition. This never used to be a problem but today the owner and employees all said no, we can't substitute and I have to pay the 50 cents. My new favorite place to eat! I get the bowl with noodles and chicken with the pineapple sauce so delicious. Customer service is pretty good. I don't really think the theme (Hawaiian) matches the food very well but it's not a big deal. There is a lot parking so that's a plus. Definitely will be coming here often. read more

The bowls are fantastic! My personal favorite is the bowl with brown rice, the veggie blend with tofu and either the peanut sauce or spicy orange. It's a filling semi low calorie meal for those who are counting calories or just want to eat something far healthier then fast food. My husband gets the white rice with half steak and chicken with the fire island teriyaki sauce. I would also suggest the char steak sandwich its lower calories then the bowl I get (the tofu one described above) but more filling for a lunch meal. The portions are reasonable for the price. The food is fresh and staff is friendly. They have a rewards card or you can register your phone number to earn points to get free meal items. Each receipt has a coupon so be sure to save your receipts. I've had the pineapple chicken sandwich it was ok but did not blow my mind. The pasta salad is decent but super creamy so if your eating lite it's not the way to go. All in all if your having a hard time deciding what to do for dinner takeout and are sick of burgers and tacos this place is a nice way to go. I came here recently because we received coupons in the mail. I'm thankful for the coupons as I probably would not have eaten here otherwise and would have missed out on another good eatery in Simi. My husband got the chicken bowl with brown rice- which he really liked (and I tasted and thought was good too). I got the pineapple chicken sandwich which was tasty, but I probably would substitute the spicy mayo for teriyaki sauce in the future. Kids meals are also free with the purchase of an adult entree. I've been here several times and I've always been happy with what I get. I usually get the bowls. I would definitely recommend the Island Rice with the bowl. It is a type of Hawaiian rice that is cooked with a touch of coconut milk. I'm not really a big fan of coconut but I get Island Rice every time and I love it. You can add shrimp, steak, or chicken to your bowl. The shrimp is awesome! It has a great jolt of flavor to it. To top it off, I like to get the peanut sauce.
