First time there last night, and the staff was super friendly and explained the menu (rice/noodle bowls, and the way you pick your own goodies to make it). I had the Char-Grilled Chicken Bowl, and it was really good! Very tender chicken, and nice size portions, enough so that I took the leftovers for lunch the next day ( and I consider myself an eater ; ) I like that you can pick white rice, brown rice, noodles, and I think something else but forgot. I ordered the orange spicy sauce and it was GOOD, and my boyfriend had the peanut sauce which was equally as good. Driving by it always looks quiet and lonely, but take advantage, because once word gets out that it's good, you'll be sorry that you have to wait in line. It really is that good! They could use a little more decoration inside, but hey we're there for the food right, and good food it is. We told the guys that work there they need to stand out on the corner in hula skirts and coconut tops with a sign telling people they are there so everyone knows. Finally an alternative to the typical chain restaurant junk out in the burbs! I've been several times and it's consistently great. The food- very creative, clean flavors and kinda healthy. I love the bowls: rice, meat, veggies and several yummy sauces to kick it up. I appreciate that they give you as many different sauces as you want rather than nickel and dime you over them. Atmosphere- clean, fun, bright, and tvs for those want to keep an eye on a game. Service- friendly and helpful. Bottom line- It's a great choice, especially if you want something other than the cookie-cutter, chain joints we're surrounded by out here. read more

This review has to do more with the service than the food. First we are in the middle of this pandemic and out of all the restaurants that I have visited during this time, this place is the only one that has taken very little precautions to combat covid19. None of the employees are wearing masks or gloves, and that's very concerning because as they prepare the food they talk to each other and potentially drop tiny droplets everywhere and without gloves they take your credit card touch the screen and then continue to help the next person in line. I don't know how long this has been going on I'm surprised there has not been more negative reviews. read more

Great lunch specials. I only really every order the rice bowls. The island rice made with coconut milk is really tasty as well as their creamy peanut sauce. Everyone who works there is friendly and the owner often walks around and asks diners how they are doing. The food is fresh and healthy. I really like Fire Island Grill... great addition to Simi Valley. Perfect lunch spot. They recently added a tofu option that is delicious in their spicy peanut sauce. The shrimp is of food quality. Theres normally a good amount of employees working at any time so the food is fast and efficient. I recommend the island rice and getting different sauces on the side to try them all. In addition they list their calories on the menu board so its easy to estimate. They typically have coupons online on bogopod which is awesome and is yet another reason to keep going back. read more

Good service. Food was less than mediocre. I ordered the steak sandwich. It came out less than a minute later. Half the steak was ice cold, half the steak was warm. Must have been pre-cooked, scoop and serve. My wife ordered the chicken salad. It was ok. Tasty, but covered in way too much dressing and drizzled with teriyaki sauce. Good for a couple bites, way too rich to fill up on with out a tummy ache. Bummer, was looking forward to trying the place. Owner's daughter was very nice. I asked her if they use MSG in their food and she said she wasn't sure and asked me if I meant salt. Pretty obvious she had no idea what MSG is. I wanted to get my money back, but I didn't bother asking. Plate looked really yucky that the sandwich was served on. Customer service is terrible. Upon receiving an order placed online, the manager made an excuse as to why the order was incorrect. Let me start by saying I've been eating at this restaurant since it opened. I literally live across the street and sometimes order food to go since it is convenient and can be relatively healthy. I'll submit my order online (since they refuse phone orders as of recent) and have it ready by the time I arrive. Usually the case... I've noticed the portion sizes have began the shrink and the food will sometimes be cold already by the time I get to the store (15 minutes after the order). This happening once... I can understand. But multiple times... Then things become an issue. So I express my recent experience with the owner and couldn't believe the response I am given. I wasn't asking for anything free or to have anything replaced. I just said "hey I've noticed my food being delivered cold and portion sizes are not what they use to be." The response from the owner was "well then purchase the double serving." That's fine. Obviously, this man can care less about the local business that keeps his doors open. Actually I noticed the Agoura location has recently closed. I'm sure this one will follow soon with customer service like that. read more

They refuse to take orders over the phone and make you place it online, which never works. I got frustrated and gave up, my wife decided to try 30 minutes later and it actually worked, but after it arrived and I was in the middle of eating my noodle bowl I found a long hair inside of it. I will never eat or deal with this place again, I can understand mistakes happen but being forced to order online is bs when the system and idea is horrible. read more

This place is decently alright. First time coming here. I got the char-grilled steak sandwich. Pretty good not the best. The only thing I didn't really like was the combination of spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce. It just taste so weird. I was given a free meal card, by the daughter of the franchise owner. I didn't use it for a while and really didn't need to because I am on a special diet. But I went anyway because this women is in one of my business networking groups. When I walked in, I saw that the atmosphere was very utilitarian and nothing special or intriguing. As I was just trying to read the menu for the first time, I had two people behind the counter hawking me one dish or another before I could even read the menu. They kept at it so long, that by the time I could actually concentrate, another person came in behind me and the guys behind the counter told her she could go ahead of me. Eventually I ordered, this time the owner took my order. I can't have rice so I asked if there is a substitute. The owner looked perplexed and annoyed like no one ever had dietary restrictions and finally replaced it with vegetables. When the dish finally was served to me by the owner, I asked if I could have some ranch dressing for my fish. He said we only have (and he rattled off three different sauces that go with the fish). I asked, do you have ranch dressing? he said "yes" in a very annoyed tone. I asked, "so can I have some?" He said still annoyed, "Yes but you are already getting a free meal, that going to be 50 cents." I told him that that was just fine. He eventually gave me a small plastic sampling cup with a teaspoon of dressing for 50 cents. Now here is the deal: I was there because his daughter gave me a complimentary meal to promote their business. I would have not gone into the place at all otherwise because it was in a poor obscure location. violating the first rule of Location Location Location. So I was doing them a favor so I could report to all of my business groups how I could promote their business. I don't care about a measly 50 cents even though I got 5 cents worth of dressing, but if you are doing something for free to promote your business, then you better do the best job you can, because you are trying to use that personal recommendation to promote that business, not make them feel like you are getting a handout. So in conclusion, the food was tasty and healthy, but it wasn't that great and the management is terrible, short sighted and not worth your time. read more

Went to Fire Island Grill for the first time yesterday. I had the chicken and steak platter. The portion was huge. I could not finish it all, and that does not happen to me. The meat was cooked perfectly, the rice was great and the grilled veggies were good too, and I don't usually eat grilled veggies. I almost forgot, the macaroni salad was good too. The kids ate all their chicken which is unusual. The staff was friendly and let us sample the different rices. Being from Hawaii, I'll go back when I get homesick, which happens often. read more

We visited this place when it first opened and the owner was snarky. The food was hot and while I won't say it's plentiful, it was adequate at that time. Fast forward to the 3 times we've visited in the last few years, and the portions are SO much smaller than when snarkyman started. And he's as snarky as always. We were there on a cold, rainy night and asked if they could turn down the ceiling fans. Owner looked at my husband and said "Dude, you're in a short sleeved shirt and it's cold outside" then he shot him a look as if to say "why are you cold inside here?" Just turn off the damned fan. My veggies in my bowl consisted of one piece of broccoli and the rest was limp zucchini. The "noodles" were not Chinese/Asian noodles but rather flat linguini. Sad. So this place didn't amaze me, but I would definitely return. I've gone 3 times now and tried the volcano salad and chicken bowl. I was satisfied with both choices. The food here I can't say is anything more than average. With that said, they have fast service, nice sized portions and decent pricing which makes them deserving of 3/5 stars in my opinion. This is a great place to eat after a workout because a lot of their items are relatively healthy and filling, so Fire Island Grill gets my approval. read more
