I usually love this place and today I ordered from Postmates and my dishes arrived less than spectacular. My husband's which was a re-order on Postmates had vegetables in it I was supposed to have none and was supposed to have extra sauce. Two of the other dishes were also supposed to have extra sauce and had none. I was looking for a healthy option and stumbled upon Fire Island Grill. Walking in, I noticed a big menu on the wall, which gives you options on how to build your order. You then walk up to the counter and place your order, similarly to chipotle. To be honest, the ordering process was a little confusing, but the staff was very helpful and friendly. I ordered a bowl with half island, rice and veggies, steak and chicken, and jerk sauce. I was not quite sure what to expect, but I was actually blown away by the flavors. The meat was cooked perfectly, and the blend of fresh veggies with the rice was amazing. The food definitely fit the Hawaiian type vibes within the restaurant. The only snag in my whole visit was the time that it took to actually pay for my food. There was only one person in front of me, but the cashier took quite a while to help her pay and by by the time I went to pay there were about seven other people behind me. This place is " FIRE " just like in the name. I love coming here . Always great quality people behind the counter. Very nice and always enthusiastic about the menu. Plenty of room to sit down and clean tables. Maybe the only thing they lack is a few more drink options, but as I've been coming here, I do notice they have slowly increasing the different amount of drink choices . I used to come here all the time, great food that feels healthy and fresh. Ordered bowl for pickup today and was really disappointed. The portion size is a fraction of what it was. They used to pack to-go orders in normal to-go meal containers. Now they put them in little side order containers. I paid $20 for a meal that was literally some rice and shrimp put in a side order container. I called and asked if this was a mistake, I was told that the owner switched to these tiny containers but they tried to tell me the portions were the same. After eating the meal I can say for sure that's not the case. I will definitely not be back. What a scam, feels like I was robbed. I come here a couple times a month for lunch (usually to go orders) - the chicken bowls with veggies and peanut sauce are still super good. I am bummed about the recent change for the to go packaging for bowls - the new small container feels tiny (even though supposedly the portions are the same) and the perception is less value for the price. It's also much more difficult to eat - my food kept falling out of the container. I understand trying to keep pricing lower but it seems like this may not be the best solution. I'll make more of an effort to eat in the store, I guess. read more

I wish I lived closer to be able to come here more often! I have been here a handful of times and I always get the same thing! What can I say, I'm a creature of habit lol ! Today was no different, I got my usual; a fire island bowl with brown rice, chicken and the fire island teriyaki sauce! It has a kick to it, so if you don't like spicy food beware. For the first time today however, I "Mac'd it up" lol you have the option of making your meal a combo that comes with Mac salad and a drink. The Mac salad was actually pretty good. Due to the COVID-19 chaos going on, my mom and I were literally the only ones dining in. A few customers trickled in but we were the only ones eating there which was actually kind of nice. We ate in peace and quiet. There's also an outdoor seating area that's covered and they have doggy bowls out there, ski believe they allow dogs. They do have gender neutral restrooms, not sure about the WiFi situation.. but overall I love coming here despite the long drive! The service is always amazing, just like their food! Good food! They were very accommodating to make a gluten free bowl. I really appreciated their helpfulness. Fellow Celiacs you can get fish, tofu, or pulled pork, any rice, and they can make steamed veggies instead of the stir fry which contains soy sauce. I always look forward to Fire Island Grill's Teriyaki chicken sandwich. It was hands down the best chicken sandwich in Simi Valley. Unfortunately, yesterday I was sadly disappointed. The sandwich came with diced chicken instead of the normal breast filet. With every bite the diced chicken spilled over the sides. It got frustrating and messy. I water for a minute or two when a second customer walked in and a guy says I'll be there in a minute brother. A women was sent to help him and she started preparing his order when she noticed me standing there. She didn't saying to me but instead in Spanish asked someone in the back to come help me. I don't understand why I wasn't helped first if I was there first. No one apologized or even noticed. She gave me one small scoop of chicken probably less than 4 ounces and it was chopped up like kibble and chicken scraps. The rice was not fresh and the vegetables tasted strange.
