The hubs and I were in Town looking for flooring and stopped by for a bite. I was originally going to order the mango chicken salad, but was intrigued by the whole make-your-own-bowl. He had the grilled chicken over island rice with orange sauce; I had the tofu over island noodles (!) with the fire island sauce. They had a deal- two bowls, two drinks and two cookies for $22. Sounded like a reasonable deal. The proteins are chopped smaller than I would have liked; I guess it eliminates the need for knives. The sauces were okay, not too spicy at all. You can catch a whiff of coconut fro the rice, but nothing fro the noodles. The server was informative; I wish she wore gloves like the rest of the staff. Everyone wore a mask and they are good about the social distancing thing. Out for a ride today which landed us in Simi Valley, me and Jackie pulled into the first strip mall we saw for lunch, before heading back to the 118. And right after entering the parking lot, Fire Island Grill was the first establishment from the driveway. Checking them out on Yelp after parking, our choice was made. Nice and clean, an island ambience with Bob Marley and Cat Stevens the favorites playing while we were there. Scanning the wall menu, we both settled on the chicken/steak combo with island rice. She chose fire island teriyaki sauce with sesame seeds, while I went with the pineapple teriyaki and peanuts. It's order and pay at the counter but they clear the table for you when you're done eating, thus, no trash cans in site. However, my one complaint was the lack of trays to transport our sizable bowls and two cups, from the counter to our table. Jackie had gone to use the restroom. It was a bit of a struggle, with no offer of help but I managed. Please invest in some trays Fire Island! But the food was above average, everything looking and tasting fresh and healthy. I've eaten at the Palmdale branch/location and liked it. Hot food served fast and is inexpensive. Aprox. $20 for two for lunch with a soda. This new place in SCV is super slow - serving cold food - with tiny meat portions - for huge prices. $42+ for lunch. Without drinks. U would need to hire experienced fast food management and workers in place to serve it fast. Keep the food hot and double/triple meat portions and lastly cut the price in half. On the location size, if u over 6' and and 200lbs u aren't going to fit into the two tiny booths. And there is only room for another 7 others to sit at tiny tables. read more

The portions are large enough for us that we took home at least half of our dishes, which made for great leftovers today. They're very generous with the veggies and chicken. The pineapple teriyaki sauce is tangy and not too heavy. Adding sesame seeds and/or crushed peanuts for crunchiness is an option they offer. Since I had been eating salads everyday, I decided to get a bowl with half brown rice, veggies and shrimp with a side of the spicy sauce. My only complaint is the amount of shrimp given, but it was still tasty and I would definitely order it again! The sauce didn't taste spicy so I opted out of using in my bowl.
