Inside the restaurant Mango habanero wings with seasoned fries and raspberry tea

Fire Wings Downey, A Solid Lunch Spot Worth Revisiting Fire Wings Downey made for a genuinely pleasant experience. Located in the Downey Promenade alongside Gaucho Grill and Casa Brunch, this spot sits in a lot that typically has a parking nightmare reputation, yet arriving on a Friday around 1 PM, I was pleasantly surprised to find a spot quickly and close to the entrance. The space itself is well laid out, offering a generously sized patio with ample seating, complemented by high tops, standard tables, and bar-top seating inside. A few TVs were tuned to the game, background music kept the vibe relaxed, and the overall atmosphere felt casual and comfortable. The staff was notably friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and the restaurant maintained a clean, tidy appearance throughout my visit. For lunch, I ordered the 6 piece Mango Habanero wing combo at $15, a solid value. The wings were generously coated in their mango habanero sauce, and the flavor was nothing short of impressive. The heat landed in a comfortable middle ground, not too aggressive, not too tame. Personally, I tend to favor a bolder spice level, as I find it amplifies the overall flavor, but I'll say this the mango habanero here more than made up for it in pure flavor and the bone in wings were perfectly crispy, exactly the way wings should be served. I opted for seasoned fries over regular, and they genuinely stood out: golden, crispy, and seasoned with just the right balance! Flavorful without being overpowering. The combo also came with a generously sized drink. For a relaxed weekday lunch, Fire Wings Downey delivered on all fronts. Good food, good service, and a comfortable setting. I'll absolutely be back.

The inside is small with about handful of tables and "earthy " decor including a wooden trunk!! The Loco Moco was definitely a standout. The flavors, textures, and presentation were all on point. The only recommitted loco moco is ask the gravy on the side meal was overtly drench with the sauce. We also tried the "fish tacos" (vegan version, of course) and were really impressed and taco was crunchy, but my only complaint is it was messy eating after the 2nd bite -- the fillings seemed to be falling apart and out of the taco shell. The food is flavorful and honestly makes you forget you're eating vegan. The service was great---friendly staff and fast service. Whether you're vegan or just curious about trying plant-based comfort food, I will come back to Mustard Seed a try the burritos next time.

I've had better vegan food at other places, so I left feeling somewhat neutral. It's a decent option if you're looking for vegan food in the area, and I still encourage others to give it a try because everyone's taste and experience can be different.

One of my favorite things about them is their "Hoppy Hour," offered daily from 3-6 PM and then from 9 PM-close. They have a great selection of bites at pretty budget-friendly prices, starting at just $4! Some of my go-to Hoppy Hour orders are the Half-Order Truffle Cheese Fries, Mac N' Cheese Balls, Crispy Glazed Brussels Sprouts, and Nachos with added steak. The Truffle Cheese Fries are always a must for me. The fries are covered in this decadent white truffle cheese sauce that is so savory and flavorful. The Mac N' Cheese Balls are perfectly crunchy on the outside and filled with beer cheese sauce and Fresno chiles with ranch on the side for dipping. The Crispy Glazed Brussels Sprouts are one of my favorites because they have this orange chile glaze that is super addicting. For something a little more filling, I like getting the Nachos and adding steak. They come with refried beans, chipotle sauce, crema, jalapeños, onions, tomatoes, and cilantro. I always ask for extra onions, tomatoes and cilantro on the side. For the steak, we ordered it medium rare, and they cooked it perfectly! Now, let's talk about the burgers because every burger I've tried here has been solid. I've had the Barbecue Bacon Burger, which comes with shoestring onions, bacon, cheddar, and beer barbecue sauce. You really can't go wrong with this classic. My current top two favorites are the Fresno Fig Burger and the Wagyu Bone Marrow Burger. The Fresno Fig has this delicious sweet-and-savory combination with fig marmalade, melted goat cheese, and bacon. I love how the sweetness of the fig contrasts with the tanginess of the goat cheese and the savory/salty bacon. The Wagyu Bone Marrow Burger is definitely on the decadent side with bone marrow shiitake butter, grilled onions, and horseradish mustard aioli. Everything comes together to make a rich and flavorful burger. It's one of the pricier burgers on the menu, but for me, it's worth every dime! For something on the lighter side, I've also tried the Cobb Salad with added grilled chicken and the Caesar Salad with seared salmon. Nothing particularly groundbreaking, but it's always nice to get some greens in between all those burgers and fries. I'm always coming back to Eureka! for their "Hoppy Hour" and burgers. Eureka! continues to be such a reliable comfort-food spot.

Somehow word got out that it was our first visit to this Lazy Dog, and one of the line cooks appeared at our table to welcome us. He was very impressive and welcoming; we were a bit taken aback by the proactive hospitality. He said he'd like to welcome us with a complimetary bowl of their Tangy BBQ chips that came with some delicious dipping sauce. We were delighted. And those chips -- OMG, not your typical homemade chip. Next, we ordered the Brussels sprouts which were awesome and delicious. Then the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad that comes with greens, carrots, radish, avocado, pickled cucumbers, peanut ponzu vinaigrette and soy dipping sauce on the side . So delicious! The tuna was fresh and perfectly cooked with lovely a seasoned crust and pink ahi filet. We still had time before we were due at our date, so ordered coffee, then refills...and more refills, LOL!
