This place just had their Grand Opening recently. It was my first time here and when you walk in, it has that "college hang out" vibe. Music is playing, watch sports on the TV, eating on concrete counter tops. There's an ample amount of space both inside their dining area and outside on their patio. They're located within a plaza with other retail shops. I ordered their 8 piece wings (comes with 2 flavors). I chose the Dragon flavor and their salt & pepper dry rub. Both flavors had amazing flavor. The salt and pepper had a nice kick can came with some onions and chili pepper garnish. The dragon spice was bold but could've used a bit more kick. I don't care for wings usually, but these at Fire Wings are great. They have a nice assortment of wings for you to try. I like the Thai wings. They also have a great selection of other menu items. We really like their chicken sandwiches and their fries. The peanut butter wings are also amazing. You can get your fries loaded with cheese and all sorts of toppings and dressings. It is really great. And try their pizza. This place is always super clean and the service is fast and nice. You can have take away, dine there (we do) or have it delivered. Came to try out this location because a friend told me about it. I feel like every city should have a great wing location that's got wet and dry wings! I've tried quite a few locations near my home so I can say this place is comparable with great crunch texture on the outside of the wing and juicy delicious meat on the inside. The thai street flavor is my favorite from this first tasting. Definitely recommend coming for their monday and tuesday wing promotions and if you have a preference on flats or drums you can always request it when you order with a small surcharge. My only comment on change is chili had too much beans, but that's personal opinion. Someone else may love that amount, but ratio of ground meat to bean was slightly off for me. I came for the soft opening on recommendation of a couple friends who knew the co-owner, Van, and I'm glad I listened! The place is smack in the middle of a busy shopping center and in front of a 24 Hr Fitness and Cinemark, so parking was an expected struggle. Past that, there's lot's to like about this Fire Wings: -There's lots of indoor and outdoor seating! Group seating galore! -Plenty of big screen TVs by the bar seating to catch sports as they happen. -The owners/co-owners are super involved in the restaurant's ops, but are super friendly and chatty! Van was chatting it up with all the customers, making sure things were how we liked it and was super passionate in sharing his dream being realized with this restaurant! -There's beer on tap, as well as a soda machine with refills to your sweet tooth's content. -The menu is EXTENSIVE. Almost reads like a chicken encyclopedia with all the flavors and meal combos. -Lastly, the food. My goodness, chain restaurant chicken wings just don't taste the same after coming here. After much indecision, I got the 6 piece mango habanero with fries and drink combo. It blew my expectations away! The smothered wings were big, super crunchy outside and super juicy inside. The mango habanero sauce was tangy and sweet, with just the right amount of heat kick to it. The fries were super crispy and paired super well with the wings. I now have a reason to come down to Downey, and possibly stop by if I'm ever driving to/from the OC or SD. Definitely can see this place being the to-go place on game days as well. This is one of our favorite wing spots but we were so disappointed when we did take out last night and the wings were so disappointing! - The wings were TINY two drumlets stuck together were barely the size of the size we usually get from Fire Wings, so I even got duped with this order. - Barely any sauce. We didn't order extra sauce or sauce on the side, so we were shocked when we got home and opened the boxes to wings that didn't have the same color or any trace of sauce under them. Thought we were given the wrong order for a second. - Dry. Wings were kinda dry-- probably because they were too small and were overcooked. Honestly, the wings still tasted good, it's not like they went bad or anything. But it was very disappointing that it wasn't up to par in regards to the reputation Fire Wings has built for itself. I saw pictures of the wings from other reviewers just from a few days ago that look "normal" so either yesterday was a fluke, or they intentionally gave us lower quality wings (for take out) hoping we wouldn't know any better. Really leaves the proverbial bad taste in my mouth. :/ Hopefully y'all can make this right. We'd hate to lose our to go place for wings. I come here for their lunch special which is $9.99 for a 6 wing combo. This includes 6 wings (bone-in or boneless), fries, and a drink. Great deal! The chicken is juicy.
