Got off cruise ship in Seward Alaska and such a nice small town. I checked out a bbq shack on the main road, Firebrand BBQ. Being from the south, I had to try it. The staff was very pleasant and the food was ok. While I am true to southern bbq, it was good, but it just doesnt compare to the South. Prices seemed a bit high, but as I went through Alaska, I saw that it is pretty spendy all over. I wish there was more brisket, as there were more sides but I guess it is expensive to get brisket up here. read more

We were in Seward and starving so I looked on yelp for something different to try. Firebrand popped up and I checked their website. Decent looking menu and not crazy prices. $7 for brisket sandwich seemed like a go. When we got the truck to order, the menu prices were $2 more than the previous year.( the menu photos and prices that were on yelp ) Ordered a brisket sandwich and a pulled pork sandwich. Cole slaw was an extra dollar so we ordered that as well. 5 minutes later and voila, 2 foil wrapped items appear. Opened them up and it was our sandwiches. My first sight was a sesame wonder bun. Took the top off and the coleslaw was on top of a very skimpy portion of meat. Nice smoke and taste to the brisket but lacked salt. $22+ tip was definitely not worth it. We were both still hungry when we left. Portions need to be adjusted to fit the price. Throw down and people will come back! read more

The potato salad is DELICIOUS! The seasoning was just enough to satisfy my taste buds without being overpowering. We also ordered the cole slaw which was. OBVIOUSLY freshly made, crisp, tangy, and a perfect compliment to the meats. We ordered the German sausage and Brisket...the former was gone in a flash with big thumbs-up and the brisket was so tender and flavorful -- not too fatty. A beacon of hope to our group as the last option in town open without an hour wait. Service was so fast, with stellar options and a cute outdoor area. The pork belly was for sure the hit in our group but the rest of the group felt the food was just okay. We showed up about 30 minutes before closing and while they were out of some items, they were able to quickly accommodate a group of 8. The pulled pork sandwich was tender but a bit dry. There is additional sauce available on the tables though which was excellent. The owners were incredibly kind and didn't attempt to rush patrons out after closing and talked to our group for a bit. Second time here in 2 days. We had the chicken plate and the ribs yesterday. Chicken was moist and juicy, with good sauce on top. The ribs were nice and smoky, and so tender that the bone fell off when I tried to pick it up. We didn't have room to try the brisket, so we came back for brisket breakfast burrritos in the morning. Prices were reasonable, especially for the area. They had tons of brisket inside plus some eggs, cheese and potatoes. Awesome bbq in Seward AK. What a surprise to find tasty bbq. Right on the main road. You can't miss it. I had the pulled pork sandwich and added potatoes salad and cole slaw. There was a lot of meat and it was juicy and tasty. No fat either. The bbq sauce on the table had a nice balance of sweet and salty. My wife had a one meat plate with brisket, potato salad, cole slaw and beans. The sides were all very good. Reasonable prices. Great service too. I will have it again later on my trip. read more

So not sure what it is, but firemen from texas, retire move to the Kenai penninsula and open BBQ joints. This is one of them, and the best that I have tried. First off the staff are great, the owner is a really nice man who saw my Fire department shirt and came and talked to me and made sure my order was good, it was. The family decided to go try this place out after narrowing our choices down on the same day we arrived to Seward which was a pretty wide and rainy day. In looking at our options from the menu we opted originally for brisket sandwiches and pork belly loaded baked potato. Unfortunately they were out of brisket so we all decided to try out the pork belly. Given the number of people ( 3/4ths full) we waited approximately 15 minutes and picked up the order. I must say the portions were very generous, full of incredible flavor. That pork belly was very nicely crispy on the outside yet soft and not dry on the inside immediately made us all agree this was certainly Texas style, pleasantly surprised. The staff were all very friendly, welcoming and very courteous. For those that may not be aware of barbecue places, at least in Texas, once the BBQ is out they close up shop so if you see the closed sign earlier than the posted hrs this may very well be same reason here. Overall, slightly disappointed we didn't get to try the brisket and the ribs however that pork belly was a home run and a must try!! Definitely if we have another chance we will be back before going home. read more

Well done! After soooo many attempts to find restaurant seating for lunch and dinner in Seward over 4 days we happened to pass by Firebrand and decided to ask if they could seat us (party of 6). They said yes and we ran. We wished we went there day 1 of our vacation. The staff member who took our order was super nice, made helpful suggestions and did not rush us. Our food was ready in less than 10 minutes and it was amazing. Large portions, especially the loaded bake potato, and the plates and oh so yummy! The brisket included "burnt ends" and was juicy. The BBQ sauce was not too sweet, not too vinegary and was so tasty that I wanted to take a case home with me to pour on my broccoli, my waffles, my ice cream. I refrained from drinking it but it was a struggle. The non-mayo coleslaw was great. Every member of our party was happily fed and fighting off the food coma. So we say, well done Firebrand. You were a definite highlight of our Seward visit and that's saying a lot. read more

A really great spot with really great food! I rode my bike by after a morning at work, hungry but not in the mood to pay $15 for a hot lunch or go grocery shopping and cook something myself. I had heard that Firebrand was delicious and affordable - I heard right! The sandwich was filling and a perfect sized lunch for only $8 (I opted to add a scoop of cole slaw onto my brisket sandwich, a very good choice). The meat was juicy with a great amount of sauce. Firebrand BBQ is the BEST food I've eaten in Seward. This is real Texas BBQ, y'all. I had the brisket and it was fall apart tender and perfectly seasoned. The beans are authentic ranch style beans with a little kick -- not those awful red, syrup-y sweet "baked" beans some places serve.
