This is one of those food "experiences" that has been on my OBX list. There are two main companies in the OBX, one is more franchised and this one is small business owned. We opted to support small business. Online ordering was super easy. I had questions about cooking and add-ons and made a quick call to the helpful person who answered the phone. I even mentioned social media and he gave me a coupon code. Win win! Communication was great, I got a text when they were prepping my order and then when the delivery was in its way. Rachel was our delivery person. She was great. She stayed to give us some cooking advice and showed us how all the cooking equipment worked. Very simple. Everything was included from the tablecloths to sticks of butter and whole lemons. Word of advice: follow shrimp and crab claw instructions to the minute. I may have overdone my shrimp time but no one really complained. It's nice to enjoy a seafood spread in the comfort of your home. I recommend this vendor. read more

What a fun experience!! We ordered The Salt Box and added crab legs and mussels enough for 5 people. We had to change our order delivery date which was not a problem at all. Dave's delivery service and prep directions were friendly and helpful. The boil ingredients were delicious. Although, my sister and I were the only ones present to enjoy the meal right out the pot as our neighbor got her portion later in the day and our other two guests were unable to make it, we definitely didn't have any complaints eating their portions too!! Linda texted me early in the afternoon and had our boil delivered (personally) about hour earlier because they had a catering event at 6 when I had originally wanted it delivered. She was so nice and texted me when they were on their way and when they were close by. I appreciated that very much because we had been out shopping. When I met them outside of our timeshare, they came inside and told me how to so the boil. So easy and everything was included and even though there were written directions I didn't need to really read them instead I used it as a reference. Everything was delicious and there was so much. My parents and I had enough for 2 more meals. We got their classic that feeds 3-5 people. Came with sausage (polish apple, mild, chorizo), red potatoes, corn (which was so sweet), 1 big yellow onion, seasonings, 3 sticks of butter, and garlic. Delicious!!! And we did end up eating rice with it which made it even better. Lol. It came with cocktail sauce which was good, but with all the butter and seasonings, didn't really need it. And the cooking liquid, sooo yummy. I have to admit I kept some and froze it for another time (I like to put it on my rice...IYKYK). I was very pleased with the seafood boil, how easy it was and how everything was included. Customer service was excellent. Absolutely cannot say enough good things about Dave and Jeff! I contacted Dave at the last minute and he was able to provide me a quote, and then adjust the quote when I made some changes. We had a brief phone conversation that left me confident I'd selected enough food for my group and that I'd chosen the right cooking option for us. We were renting a home in OBX and didn't want to go through the hassle of cooking it ourselves on our first night, but didn't feel a chef was needed, so the middle ground "they start it, we finish it" option was perfect! Jeff set everything up outside, was wonderful to talk to, and the food was delicious. We had more than enough to go around, and the experience kicked off a great week in the OBX. Oh, and Dave was AMAZING at accommodating my very last minute (as in 6 hours before our scheduled time) request to push our boil back one hour. We had a small billing hiccup and Dave was immediately responsive and apologetic about correcting his error. Seriously great guys running a neat business with delicious food! First off everything about this place is a breeze (other than you have to cook yourself). The guys run the phone lines quickly, everything is neatly packaged, drop off in a big fun truck, easy disposal, the works. Everything extremely extremely fresh, including the shrimp and lobster tails (good size too). The guys on here have 5 star reviews so I feel comfortable giving a 4 as it shouldn't hurt them too much. I will switch this to a 5-star review if/when they are ever at risk of lower rankings because this deserves a 4.5 star review. My "negatives" are as follows: 1. Spoken directions differed from written directions. We tended to follow the spoken directions, but it did lead to some confusion (we are idiots). 2. Fellas, don't be afraid of the spice, or offer people a "full spice" option. Whether it was too much water in the pot (a written v. spoken instruction issue), or there was just not enough spice, we could've used a lot more spice in our boil. When ladling food out, it looked as though no spice had seeped into anything. Let's just say that as four white folk originating from the Northeast, the food looked liked we had made it. I'd recommend the guys add spice levels as an option, or, if you dear reader see this, be prepared with some old bay and Tony C's of your own. This being said, the broth from the boil, once added to quite a bit of hotsauce, did make for a decent dipper. Either way, wouldn't hesitate to order again. EDIT: Just noticed that Firehouse Boil has 30+ reviews which all appear to be 5-star and are being blocked by YELP. That is BS, so I'm changing my review to a 5-star until this company's "blocked" reviews are restored. Pros/cons above still stand, but this is not a place trying to trick folks. read more

Amazing DIY seafood boil! We tried Firehouse for the first time last night and had an awesome experience. Placed our order around noon same day and they delivered it at our requested time. Comes with darn near everything you need; Pot, lid, spider strainer, plastic table cloth and a roll of paper for the table, and all the butter and seasoning you need. As for the boil ingredients we opted for the Salt box which says it feed 3-5, we added some crab knuckles and spicy sausage and it feed the 5 of us with just a little left over. Instructions say to cover with water but we did half water half beer/ white wine for a little extra flavor. Following their recommendations on cooking everything came out great! Dropping off the equipment next day was easy and convenient. Will definitely be doing this again on our annual OBX trip. read more

To me the appeal of a cook-it-yourself boil delivery is everything is assembled and ready to go, throw it on the stove and you're set. Firehouse delivers a dirty, smelly pot and a bag of groceries, so you need time and space for prep and cooking things separately. Our pot wasn't large enough for our boil and everything cooked unevenly as a result. Bizarrely, the seafood and meat was all frozen and the mussels were imported, precooked trash. Shockingly poor experience for the high price, can't understand all the other positive reviews of this place. read more

This was our second summer enjoying Firehouse Boil and it is just amazing- great service, generous portions, quality ingredients and lots of perks such as paper products and sturdy equipment to make the meal special. Jeffrey even supplied us with a splitter to allow for grilling the sausages while preparing the boil grill-side. Such a personal touch!
