Had a steak and cheese and it was SOO delicious, even on wheat bread. I think it's better than the steak and cheese sandwiches I've had at similar establishments. I can't wait to eat it again. I got a medium size and it was perfect. It's an extra $2.50 for a large but that will probably give you 2 meals. The combo comes with a drink and either chips, a cookie or a brownie. Yum! When designing the interior, they really paid attention to all the details. Firehouse is our new Go To Sub place. They do not assemble as fast as other sub joints, however they are hot and fresh. The Steak and Cheese, Spicy Meatball, Italian and the Beef Biscuit are all great. Combos run around $10 and include drink and chips. read more

This was my first time coming to a firehouse subs and it can be closely compared to Potbellys in terms of size, price and quality. Honestly, I can't tell a difference in taste between the two. Both offer quality ingredients in their subs and their veggies taste fresh. The only slight difference I could notice was that Firehouse subs were cleaner, Potbelly subs tend to be overpacked with lettuce falling all over the place. I prefer the Firehouse approach, but also notice that they offer slightly less meat compared to Potbellys. Everyone seemed to be pretty nice, greeting customers with a sushi joint like "Welcome!". I also liked the rack of complimentary hot sauces for you to choose from. Don't get me wrong - it's obviously better than Subway, but just seems too much like Potbellys with hot sauce. read more

OMG, Awesome! I'm not going to write about the decor, which is kinda kitschy but makes sense with the Firehouse theme. I'm not going to write about the staff, who are friendly and helpful, even when you come in 10 minutes before closing and they just want to go home. I'm here to write about the subs. And boy, are these some subs. I've only been here twice, but have tried four different subs (the bf and I order different subs and trade halves) and everything I've had is AWESOME. The corned beef sub is fantastic. The cheesesteak sub rocks. If you order the subs the way they come (with the condiments they recommend) the flavor profiles are fresh and amazing. I've never had a problem with dry subs, because they sauce it up really well, and the sauce is flavorful and lovely. They steam the meat in steamer baskets, which makes it juicy and moist. The bread is toasted. A sub from here is just a lovely, fresh sub that you want to devour and will leave you staring at the empty paper wrapping, longing for more. If you enjoy a high-quality sub (none of that Subway crap here) Firehouse is definitely your place. If you happen to be in the area and looking for a bite, stop in. You won't regret it. read more

I went with a group of people, and the benefit with going with a group is that you get a review of a whole bunch of subs at one time. And the good news: everyone loved their subs! Service is quick, yet the people for the most part weren't cordial at all. They were impatient with everyone's orders, even though there was nobody in the restaurant outside of us. Nothing fancy about looks: some firemen outfits here and there, some pictures, and dalmation-spotted tables give it a nice place that you'd likely take your kids to. Now about the subs: absolutely fantastic. I got the hook and ladder, and they melted the cheese and baked the sub to a warm crisp. The various choices of hot sauces is a nice little flare to the food, but it really isn't necessary. A lot of people got the meatball subs and seemed to want seconds. Someone else had the Smokehouse Brisket and loved it. Overall the subs are cooked the same way, the ingredients taste fresh, and the bread is manageable (not hard enough that it cuts up the top of your mouth, but doesn't hold well enough from falling apart on your last bite). -1 star for crappy employees read more

The family stopped in here after seeing a movie next door. My wife ordered her usual smoked brisket and I tried the Hawaiian pork sandwich, the kids, meatball kids sandwiches. We were all very, very happy. My kids and wife enjoyed tasting mine and I am the one that got my wife hooked on the smoked brisket to begin with. The employees were very polite and I was surprised at how quickly our food was ready considering how busy they were. I hadn't been to a Firehouse Subs before, so my review is mostly a FYI if you haven't been. All in all, subs are good and ingredients are fresh. Excellent selection of hot sauce and Miss Vickie's chips and they have TWO of the fancy Coke machines. OK so FYI.....all but two subs on the menu are served warm. The meat is steamed and then added to the bread and stuff, so you don't have a crazy overly crunchy/burned sub roll. Things can move a little slow, and I've had a couple issues with not getting exactly what I ordered (not getting mustard/mayo etc.). The one thing other sub shops have I wish they had here was the person walking your sub through the toppings area so you can see what you're getting. They also have limited amount of extras (no pickles, olives, dressing etc.). I will end on a positive note, someone clued them in on how annoying it is when 7 people yell "Welcome to Firehouse!!!!" so they don't do that anymore :) read more

Best subs south of Jersey. As someone born in raise in a land where Subs are done right, no offense Subway lovers... I've had my share of Sweet Onion Chicken Teryaki sandwiches, I have grown to appreciate certain establishments that can put together a good sub. The Firehouse staff is always friendly, and very helpful, plus they frequently run BOGO promotions and send out coupons, cha ching!! I fancy the Turkey sub here, my wife likes hers with the Bacon and Ranch dressing. The best part is that there are about 3-4 dozen different hot sauces available to dribble or drench your sub with. For me, the hotter the better, plus it's nice being able to try new hot sauces each time I go in. My biggest kudos go to Firehouse for their addition of the Coke Freestyle machine, they were the first restaurant to obtain one (in this area at least) and I am hooked on trying new flavors (not sure if I'll ever sample all 109 possibilities). Quality subs, especially for a chain. Only knock would be the speed at which the subs come out, sometimes I've waited 10 minutes or so, but they've always got TVs with sports on, so it's a bearable wait. read more

As far as the sandwiches go....they are the best! We eat there basically once a week....we always get the wheat bread because it is sweeter and it gives the sub a special taste. The subs we get are the Italian, Fully Involved and the Steak and Cheese....they are great!! The sweet tea is amazing, too. Last night we tried to use the internet to make our order. Don't waste your time. Once it was submitted, they called immediately to confirm....repeating the entire order and identifying a pick up time. I may as well have just called it in and skipped the computer step. Furthermore, once we went to pick up at the time they gave us...they said it would be 10 more minutes. They took several customers in front of us that got their subs first. We waited 20 minutes in the place.....that is less time than if we ordered in the store....don't waste your time on the internet order.... But...do go!! The food is great! read more

This was my first time here and I loved it. When I walked in I was greeted by the entire staff. When I went to order the cashier was very friendly. The sub I had was perfect. It was nice and hot, the meat isn't slimy like most sub shops I've been to. The bacon is crispy. They also have a huge selection of hot sauces ranging from mild to very hot. I saw at least 50 different hot sauces to choose from. This location also has two fancy soda machines giving you a large variety of drinks to choose from. The place was also very clean. There was always someone there busing tables or sweeping the floor. Upon exit we were thanked for coming by the staff. Just bought a meatball sub from this place, because of the reviews and the place did not disappoint. The sub was good and we road around for about 35 minutes getting other stuff and I was worried that the sub would be messed up. But it was just as pretty and delicious even after sitting in the car for a spell (might have made it tast better, idk). Good stuff!! I recommend. One other thing, the customer service was pretty good. I was debating what kind of sub to get, and one of the guys came to me to let me know it was store policy to allow me to get another sub for free if I didn't like one that I had selected. What the hell is wrong with me? Another chain? DC traffic really made me lazy. In all honesty, I had no idea it was a chain when I was "dragged" to a free lunch. My life is so difficult sometimes. Difficulty aside, Firehouse is a pretty damn good place to go for lunch. The ham is so good you'll think you've died and went to heaven. The bread is fresh. The service is fast. My only complaint is all of the employees yelling "welcome to Firehouse!" every time someone walks through the door. Can't you just write that on the front door and shut the hell up? If there are no local sandwhich joints around to support, then head to Firehouse. Just bring some earplugs for your initial entry. read more

We recently moved to VA and were looking for a place to buy hoagies and sandwiches that was cheap and quick, more or less a replacement for Wawa. This place is the answer, and with several locations in NOVA, they are easy to find; I wish they would open a location in DC. The staff is very friendly, overall the service is great. The menu has a large selection to choose from, as well as numerous toppings. I choose the cheesesteak or club sandwich, but substitute extra turkey for the ham (I know, doesn't that just make it a turkey sandwich...), easiest way to order what I want. This is a neat place because of the food and the reason for its creation. The sandwiches are hearty and filling and served in a firehouse ambiance. There is an amazing soda machine which as others have mentioned is almost a reason to go in itself. I read the reviews before I came here and was scared that people were actually comparing this place to Subway. In my book, Subway doesn't even get one star. That aside, Firehouse Subs is A-OK. They toast the subs and the meat is hot. I got the New Yorker because it has corned beef, among other things. It was quite tasty. I came here one day after a doctors appointment with my bestie and immediately fell in love. My girl got the turkey bacon ranch on wheat and I got the light Italian on wheat. We sat inside and ate. They give you a number and call your name when your food is ready. What can I say about my sandwich? The bread was fresh and soft. The meat was perfectly sliced and proportioned. I decided to do cheese-steaks for lunch every day this week... no real reason for it, just wanted to clog my arteries a bit more than usual I guess. After every place nearby I could think of, I decided to give Firehouse a try. Although I went a bit early, it seemed like a great atmosphere for a relaxed lunch with friends. I can definitely appreciate the theme and decor, but the dalmatian tables are a bit too much. As for the food, I got the large steak and cheese sub, obviously. The meat and other ingredients were definitely better and tastier than you get in comparably priced sandwich/sub chains, although definitely not the best cheese steak in the area. (Al's still holds that title in my opinion.) The sub was very good though with only one major complaint. The bread, while moist and chewy, was simply too flimsy, and it didn't help that the bottom wasn't fully cut through. The first half just kind of fell apart as I tried to pick it up. Otherwise though, this is a great place for lunch or takeout and I'll definitely be going back to try out some of the other menu options. read more

I like you, Firehouse Subs. Why are you so dang far away! It's a good place for a sit-down bite to eat if you're not going there anytime around lunch. If you are, forget it and good luck getting through the door! They are SLAMMED at lunch time. If you don't have to be somewhere and you have time to stand in line to order (let alone try to get a place to sit down) you can get a good piping hot sub. Well, no. I take that back. You can get a good piping hot sub anytime! I've gotten the engineer sub, the Italian, the smokehouse beef and cheddar brisket, and their steak and cheese. Hands down, my two favorites are the beef and cheddar brisket and the Italian. The brisket sub has got some seriously delicious tangy-sweet BBQ sauce and when it's mixed with that cheddar cheese and beef.... mind blown. The Italian is great when you need a change from the BBQ sauce. Although that's a rare moment for me indeed. I get it "Fully Involved" but ask them to hold the mayo. I just feel weird getting it with mayo when it has Italian dressing on it. Combine that sandwich with a drink and some chips to snack on later when I'm home and I'm good to go. read more

Living in pretty much the heart of Kingstowne, and eating way more than I should, I'm familiar with the quick eateries around here. Firehouse is one of my "go-to's." I've never had a bad sandwhich from this shop. The Hook and Ladder and the Hero (fully involved of course!) are my two favorites. While you wait, you can find the perfect hot sauce to drizzle on the sandwhich. If it's busy when you go in, you'll have plenty of time to look. Give Dave's Gourmet a shot if you want a good variety of sauces, you can't go wrong. Also, the staff is friendly and talkative, and there a few TV's to keep you interested while you wait. Good little set-up. If that's not enough, checking out the decor of the place can be interesting, too. All in all, GREAT sandwhich shop, I'm satisfied every time I leave. read more
