Would be a five star but they use honey baked ham on their Italian Sub which makes for an odd sweet taste to what should not be a sweet sandwich. Better than Quizno's and way better than subway, this place also keeps hot sauce in a variety of bottles for those us whose taste buds were forged in hell. I always get the Italian and am never disappointed. Quick order and free refills make for a good lunch place, or before or after movie place (Right next door to the Kingstowne movie house). They also sell their used pickle buckets for two bucks, which you CANNOT get the pickle smell out of. Firehouse is located at a decent, if busy spot. It's amongst so many other places to eat that I never got to it right away. As a vegetarian, I find that their veggie subs are completely amazing - and they do the whole toasted subs shtick even better than Quiznos (and they have good veggie subs!) Really good for on the go, not the type of atmosphere I like to sit and eat in. The theme is cute for the menu items, and the staff has been friendly enough each time I've visited. Truly and honestly one the best sandwiches I've ever had. You know how Denny's motto is "Come hungry, leave happy"? It should've been applied to this place from the start. I think this place is good, just not my cup of tea. The service is fast, the employees are kind and the prices are fair. I think what I ordered was just bad. The meat quality wasn't bad, just a whole ton of mayonnaise was put on my sandwich and it would leak out and became so messy. I placed an order online on 5/12- from Grubhub, quickly, as I have a baby and needed something quick since I'm unable to eat much. The driver claims she came to my home and rang the doorbell and called. Yes I admit my phone was accidentally left on vibrate but instead the doorbell never rang. I swear and I even checked and it was working! Why didn't she leave a voicemail? I didn't know what was going on. I called specifically at that time so I can eat while my baby napped. Rather than offer a solution right away when I called about an hour later than it was supposed to arrive, she was defensive and made me feel like crap, and I was starving even more! They came out again and didn't apologize and driver arrived 30 minutes later.I feel unappreciated as a new customer, and disrespected as I did not intend to leave my phone on vibrate (I have a 6 month old and it escaped my mind taking care of him) this restaurant does not offer quality service - I want my money back. read more

Finally, FINALLY, the greatest sub chain in the country and the ONLY good thing besides Lynard Skynard to come out of Jacksonville, FL comes to the DMV and you guy totally miss the best thing about it. A coworker of mine suggested we go cuz he thinks it's "awesome. He actually wasn't to far off. We went around lunch and the place was crowded which usually means long wait time and crappy service or this is gonna be sweet manna from heaven. It turned out to semisweet manna from heaven. I had the BBQ w/cheese and put on my front face for my coworker that said we could have done better when in fact, that was very far from the truth. The place was awesome! I was surprised to hear people complaining about the subs not being healthy. Subtract the cheese and mayo and Firehouse subs have fewer calories than most of Subways foot longs, e.g. a large New York Steamer without cheese & mayo has just over 600 calories. What's even better is the subs are even better without all the mayo and dressings. Because of the steam, the mayo and dressing makes them too soggy. Without it, they're perfect. The wide array of amazing hot sauces are a great substitute. I'm definitely not always a healthy eater, but when I'm counting the calories, Firehouse is a frequent stop. Online ordering is super convenient and they have those great Coke Freestyle soda machines. read more

We go here pretty often for lunch. Can't say I've had anything bad. The Italian, The Pulled Pork, the Engineer are all good. Can be packed sometimes, but they usually serve you pretty fast. Good selection of chips and drinks. One of the better lunch options in the area. read more

I wanted to specifically review this location because the staff was SO awesome! I feel bad I didn't catch any of their names. But I went last weds night April 13th and I hate to be THAT person but we were running late for the movie and showed up 10 mins before they were closing. I really like the subs they sell here. Every time I've come to this place I've gotten a great sandwich and outstanding service. No other place greets you when you walk through the door! This time around I ordered the Club Combo which was very good. The prepared the sandwich relatively fast. Another sub I like is the Italian, which is probably my favorite food there. Being a Philadelphia native I think I am just the right person for writing a review about a place like this :). Philadelphia is known for hoagies, so I feel very strongly about a good hoagie! My conclusion, after having eaten at Jimmy John's and now Firehouse (establishments which are eerily similar), is that Philadelphians should not expect to get the sandwich they would otherwise normally get back home in Philadelphia. This is not to say the sandwich one can get from JJ's or Firehouse are bad. Quite the contrary, they are very delicious. Just as a Philadelphian I expect a bigger sandwich for the money. Nothing beats a quality hoagie on Amoroso's bread with a decent amount of meat, etc etc. So if the sandwich is delicious, why the 3 out of 5 rating? Well it is not like this place is great. If you are going for lunch on a weekday, I STRONGLY urge you to call in your order well ahead of time. I have been to this place two times during weekday lunch hour and both times I waited upwards of 20-25 minutes for my sandwich - there are just that many people who are brainwashed into believing that this is the best hoagie the world has to offer (lol...joke). Moreover, because of the number of people who eat here during lunch hour, it is rather hard to hear when they call your name to serve you your food. And, it is a very tight fit in there. There is seating both inside and outside, but the outdoor seating is limited and the indoor seating fills up fast and is tightly packed. There is a fountain drink station for unlimited refills, which is nice. I wasn't too impressed with their means of cooking the meat. I have gotten the roast beef and I watched them make it. They throw the meat on wax paper and into a heater box. They take it out and drain all the juice into the trash (yeah not really appealing, honestly). It seems rather unhealthy when you watch it all go down. If health and cleanliness are your thing, and you prefer a sub par, quick hoagie lunch that you would get from a place like this, I'd suggest you go to Subway or Quiznos instead. Their means of meat preparation are much healthier and clean. So yes, you will get a tasty meal here, but the other aspects of the meal (wait time, seating, etc.) makes for an average experience. read more

I always get a ton of coupons from this place, so we decided to pop in one night when we were looking for a quick dinner. Coupon got us a free drink and chips whenever we ordered a sub. Good deal, I ended up getting the steamer, which was a pastrami, italian dressing, mayo,and provolone cheese on wheat. the sandwich was much better than it had to be. I was expecting a run of the mill sub like place,but the flavor in the meat stood out. Yes they have the coke machine that allows you to pick your flavors, and that was neat although I'm not a huge soda person. I like coming to this Firehouse location. The hook and ladder sandwich always comes out delicious! The staff is usually very nice. Seems the put the best customer service employees on register, which is how it should be. I usually ask for an extra pickle on the side, and they usually forget that. While the service and quality of MOST of the ingredients are still great - the mushrooms are no longer acceptable. I don't know if they changed them or what but they have a strange chemical taste now. I was told that they are no longer vegetarian because they contain anchovy oil - maybe that is the source of the taste. With out the mushrooms, I may as well go to Subway where at least I can get some nutritious spinach instead of iceberg. Here's hoping they solve their mushroom issue and take out these weird and unnecessary flavorings. read more

I LOVE FIREHOUSE!!!! I just wish that my wife was a bigger fan of Firehouse, so that we could go more often. We've been to this location 3-4 times since we moved here at the end of last month! All of our experiences there have been really good, aside from the last time where it took at least 30 minutes to get our food, and then my sub wasn't even made properly. I totally get it that it was pretty busy when we were there, but it shouldn't have taken that long to get our food! Not only that, but the man who brought the food to our table only apologized for the delay, and didn't offer to give us a refund (full or partial) or discount on a future visit. Overall, we have enjoyed going to this location, and it seems like most of the employees get along very well! There are like 3-4 that get along super well, but we've unfortunately only ever seen them all there the first time we went to this location. read more

Started by firefighters, this place is oozing with testosterone. Not taking away from our wonderful and dedicated female firefighters! We love you! But this place is a man cave and I love it! I ate here today for lunch. I had been to one in Germantown a few years ago and had similar issues that I had today. The place was clean, the employees friendly and the service good. I ordered an Italian with everything on it to go. When I got back to my office I opened the box and there was a nice size sub that looked delicious. I started eating the first half and it was very good but by the time I was through the second half the roll was disintegrating, I was basically holding the ingredients, meat and vegetables in my hands because the roll was gone. Went there to grab a sandwich before a movie. Ordered the Beef & Cheddar Brisket sub. Was not good. The meat was over cooked and tastless. It also had a sweet BBQ sauce on it which did not appeal to me. I did not spit it back out, but it was not what I'm used to when it comes to brisket. Otherwise the place nice, was clean, employees were very helpful. After hearing all the other glowing reviews I will give it another try, just won't order the brisket. read more
