Y mom and I both got a fully involved Italian sub on the gluten free bread. It was just the right amount of food and satisfied both of us. However it was around 30 dollars for two gf sandwiches chips and fountain drinks. In my opinion that's pretty pricey for a sandwich shop, I feel they overcharge for something that is due to an allergy. The service was good though they had the sandwiched out fast and they were hot. Did not know all the stuff was served hot got an Italian sub by the time I got to eat it the bread was wet and the lettuce's was all soggy had to remove it. They had 8 people working and 3 other customers and it still took 20 to get my order. For 15 $ I could of went across the street and got 2 subs at Publix's for the same price that were made right. First time at this location - because I went to the wrong store after placing a phone order. I thought I was calling & going to my usual Tarpon Springs location. When the phone was answered, I didn't hear him say, "East Lake." No worries. This was an easy to find store, and both gentlemen inside were friendly and accommodating. Our order was ready, and it smelled delicious on the ride home. We split a large hot pastrami & delivered a kids meal to the kid next door - hot ham, drink, dessert & hat. I had to ask for the hat before leaving. It wasn't in the bag. He was thrilled with it! But he didn't know that he was supposed to get dessert - marshmallow treat. So he wasn't disappointed. But I was. No treat! I didn't call to complain because it's a 15 drive back to get it. Not worth it. Our sandwich was good. I hope he enjoyed his sandwich and his drink. I'll be returning to Tarpon next time I order. It's closer & they've never gotten my order wrong. I should have checked my order before leaving. Then it would be a 5 star review. But I didn't. The cashier didn't know how to use the point of sale system efficiently, and when told the exterior signage was turned off and the location looked closed, "well...we aren't" was the response. Having never been to the chain before, I had pretty high expectations after reading a "best sandwiches" list that placed firehouse in the top 5. We went this afternoon and it was fine. Certainly nothing to write home about, and I wouldn't go back on my own, but if a friend really wanted to go, I'd find something on the menu. I ordered a hero, and my husband got the hook and ladder and both were just bland. I even had pickles and banana peppers on my sandwich and it was all just so remarkably flavorless. If you are someone who doesn't like bold flavors and Jersey Mike's and Potbelly giardinera makes your eyes water, this place could be a good option. TLDR: the new York steamer is where it's at. Quick quality sandwiches decent options for those with food allergies. We were running errands today and decided to stop in for a bite to eat. The kids ordered grilled cheese which they of course didn't eat. I had the engineer which was huge and pretty good. My husband got the New York steamer and man, that was a yummy sandwich! Our family does have some food allergies and although, they had a hard time finding the allergy guide in stores, I was able to easily locate it online. Most of the sandwiches are soy free which is a great sign for fresh food as most processed items contain soy. The bathrooms were clean and the service was good. They have a Firehouse Rewards app you can use to gain points after purchases for free subs, sandwich upgrades (double meat) etc. The sandwiches are always prepared fresh so after a short wait (usually 5-10 min max) your delicious sandwich is served to your table after you order it from the counter. I've eaten at this chain many times, but this was my first visit to this location. The staff were friendly and helpful. The pace was clean and the food was good. My only complaint is they had the NBA on. There is a reason the NBA lost half their fans. I've been an NBA fan for decades, but I can't stand todays NBA ignorance towards about neighborhoods they know nothing about and suffer the consequences for their rhetoric. My advice is to cut that stuff off. At least until they can stick to playing sports. read more

I think they have it down when it comes to hot subs. The one thing I don't like is the amount of meat that they put on a sub. They are a little light and stingy. I usually go with the Engineer or Hook and ladder, you can't go wrong with either of these sandwiches. This restaurant is always clean and has easy to read menu boards. You are greeted with a "Welcome to firehouse" when you walk in the door. Ordering is quick and easy and the subs come out relatively quick. They ask for your name to call out when you sub is ready, give them a fake one and have fun with it. They have the uber expensive coke machine that does 250 flavors, or something like that, but not one of them taste right in my opinion. They should just go back to the old fountain machine, it's better. They have a couple of TVs with sound if your alone at lunch and want to catch up on news or sports. Slow service and very sloppy sandwich. There isn't a veggie sub on the menu, but they made me one. The cashier had a hard time entering all the items into the ordering system, but she got it eventually with a little help from somebody else. After ordering I sat down to wait, and I realized that there were 5 or 6 other tables with people and none of them had their food. I could tell this might take a while and it did. I waited about 15 minutes before getting my sandwich and the employee actually apologized for the wait. It was nice that he recognized that it took a long time. But still, waiting that long for a fast food sandwich is kind of bad. As far as the sandwich goes, I don't understand why it is was so wet. Everything was falling out of the bread, and it was just a mess. I did ask for some dressing but why so much? Publix takes forever to make your sandwich too, but at least you are rewarded with a very good sandwich at the end. I ate it and moved on with my life. I guess that about says it all. Fly in the sub. First time trying this place. Got home opened styrofoam box and fly was crawling on top of meatball sandwich. I hit it with finger and it didn't fly away, just kept walking around on sandwich. Must have liked it a lot. Okay, so it happens but I'm not about to eat the sandwich. I was in my kitchen when I opened it so I know it wasn't mine, I don't have flies. Back to the place to return it, but not getting another cause I lost my appetite. I politely asked who manager was and took him to the side cause I didn't want everyone in the place who was eating to start throwing up. I told him I just wanted my money back. My husband says I'm addicted to Firehouse subs. Perhaps I am. I started coming to Firehouse when I was pregnant with our twins. They steam their meat so it's safe eat while pregnant. I always opted for extra meat (2oz is $1) to get extra protein. Morgan (one of the managers) is great. She always smiles and greets us like family. Ordered a large box of catering subs for a party. They cost $50 so they are not cheap. You would expect fresh soft bread and professional quality service. I had several people come to me during the party and advised me the bread is very stale and hard. I just picked up the order from the East Lake store so they didn't sit around at all for any time. So I grabbed a sub to try it...sure enough the bread was very hard and stale. It was embarrassing to host an event with horrible quality. I called the manager and all he would say was that the bread was fresh and didn't care at all about my experience and feelings. He simply didn't care at all about customer service. I had been a big fan of Firehouse Subs, and have been to the East Lake Rd location many times. But a few months ago I got a NY Steamer and it had very little meat on it. I decided to give them another try, and this time was even worse. Barely any meat on the sandwich, with no more than 2 layers of meat on most, some with only one layer, and even some parts of the sandwich with no meat at all. And to make matters worse, the bun was stale. I wish I would have checked it before I left, as I would have either asked for another sandwich, or my money back. Probably one of the worst subs I've ever had. The 2 things that I always liked about Firehouse Subs were the stacks of meat and on a soft sub roll.
