I found this company using Thumbtack, and the owner, Jeff, reached out to me right away. When I called him for more information on scheduling an estimate, he said he was available to come out within the hour. For me personally, speed of scheduling an estimate was A+, it doesn't get much faster than within an hour of reaching out. Jeff and Alex came out right away, examined our chimney, and wrote up an estimate of point-by-point repairs they would need to complete for a full repair. Each item was priced out individually, which was a huge plus. The estimate was provided on the spot, and they walked through each item for me so I could fully understand what they wanted to do, and why the needed to do it. Scheduling the actual repair was timed very nicely. After I had put down the 50% deposit and they were able to confirm they had the bricks in stock, they were able to schedule my repair a few days out, which was great. During the fall is the busy time for many companies, and other estimates we got said if we were to go with them that they wouldn't be able to do the repair for many weeks out, about a month and a half. It's great that FACTS was able to get us on the schedule right away to resolve our issue before it got any worse. On the day of the repair, Jeff (the owner and person who did our inspection) came out with our tech, Ryan, to make sure he was on the same page with what needed to be done, which was reassuring to me. Our tech, Ryan, was very friendly and explained what he did in a language that I could understand, which was very useful. To my understanding, he also went above and beyond to make sure that our repair was done with high quality. These folks definitely take pride in the work they put their name to, and I mean that as a compliment. Jeff came by a number of times throughout the repair to check in on progress- I think it's great that an owner is that involved in his company. When everything was done, Ryan and Alex went over everything they did with me to make sure I was understanding and that any questions I had were answered. Alex did a great job communicating with me regarding scheduling, payments, warranties, and use of our new damper. The cleanup job was quite impressive; they wiped down our glass door that was nearby, and completely swept up the area around the job site. We needed bricks replaced, and they were able to match the new bricks to our old ones so that the difference was not noticeable. We have a neighbor who had chimney repair work done and she said that her company did not have matching bricks and so she had to pay an extra $700 for them to stain the bricks to match. What else was nice is that they were able to split the repair work we needed (internal and external work.. our chimney is pretty old and in bad condition) to make it more manageable from a financial perspective. We had a few other companies out to provide quotes and this company was by far and away the best price (by a few thousand dollars). If you're looking for chimney repair work, I would definitely recommend this company, especially if you're comparing prices and looking for someone to provide competitive rates. We plan to use them again for the internal repair work when we are ready. read more

Based on some of the reviews I was very skeptical in calling him but I know how some of these reviews go so I chanced it anyways. Jeff came out to clean my fireplace and chimney. He was very professional and communicative. He was running late due to traffic and he called me to tell me where as I had other contractors for services run late and never gave me a heads up that they were running late so that I appreciated very much. Jeff did find a few things that needed to be fixed/replaced and I felt that he gave me a very fair price for everything. I hired FACTS to clean a fireplace that had been used only for 2 years. A fireplace that is all brick and ceramic throughout. They also performed an inspection. The recommendations from their inspection were over $1100 worth of repairs. I found this strange and then hired another large well known firm. They did the inspection and informed me that I do not need any of the recommendations from FACTS other than the crown coating at the top of the fireplace. Among the $1100+ of repairs FACTS recommended, were a $300 crown repair. I had the other firm perform this work for $160. I would not recommend FACTS and their FUD selling, as they told me to do the repairs or else I was going to have a house fire. read more

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!!!! The guy that runs this business is a scam artist! He came over to clean the fire place and do an inspection. His job was to figure why the unit was not working. he suggested replacing the vents and log system at the bottom. I agreed to this since it seemed like an easy fix. Then after his failed attempt he suggested that I replace the unit because it was irreparable. I believed him and gave him a second deposit to replace the fire place. now I am out of almost 800 dollars and a non working fire place. He began to come up with a lot excuses when asked when will the parts be in so I got a second opinion. the second opinion was clear! The fire place does NOT need to be replaced. I had it serviced the same day by a different company. I have been trying to get my deposits back from this company but its been excuse after excuse. The owner Jeffery Thornton even told me that if I talked smack to him I would not get anything back. This has been going on for a month now. I will message back with outcome! I highly recommend Fireplace and Chimney Tech Services. Jeff and Aaron came to my condo in the city and cleaned my dryer vent. They gave me a call an hour ahead of time to say they would be there at 9am and were right on time. They finished the job in about thirty minutes and were very professional. You can tell Jeff is very knowledgeable on fire safety and truly cares about preventing home fires. He is not going to jag you around when discussing further options toward preventing fires. Rather, he will give you honest recommendations that are completely up to the home owner. The fee was extremely reasonable too. Great company, will definitely use them again in the future. read more

I had purchased a Living Social deal for a chimney sweep. The technicians were on-time and didn't make a mess which is rare in the service industry. Upon arrival, one of the technicians started working and the other started trying to sell me $1,500 worth of work he claimed I needed. I was disappointed he never went on my roof to inspect the chimney but he claimed I needed all kinds of work up there. He also claimed that the factory grate was no good because it wasn't tall enough. Oddly enough, they sell grates too. Hmmm. The tech that was working simply ran a brush up my flue a couple times and vacuumed my firebox. I could have done this myself and saved money. I thought I was paying for the cleaning AND inspection. I didn't appreciate the attempt at upselling me right off the bat. I realize my chimney may need some work but the scare tactics will not get my attention. My BS detector was going off big time with these guys. My thinking is that they use these Living Social deals to get in the door to provide a quick chimney sweep and then try to sell you on costly repairs. I would use caution by hiring this company. As a side note, the voucher I purchased from Living Social was marked redeemed by the vendor before I had a chance to call and schedule a time. Maybe a honest mistake? Maybe their way of cashing in for unsuspecting people who forget about their vouchers. It doesn't sit well with me. I will not use them again. read more

Had this company out to do a free inspection of my exterior and they took a lot of time to inspect the interior and exterior thoroughly and go through my options for the problems we are having that include moisture coming in from the outside to inside the fireplace and the wall above it. Their prices are MUCH more competitive than other specialists that also get good reviews in my area on Yelp, I will likely get work done by Jeff and his team in the near future. Purchased their Living Social deal. Called and scheduled an appointment. They had a two week lead time, understandable at this time of year. They called 45 minutes before they arrived. They came in, did the job and kept everything clean. They gave me a few recommendations, but no high pressure sales tactics. Polite and friendly. Would recommend to others. read more

Jeffrey was a complete scam. Jeffrey is the owner of the company, don't hire him to do anything. My husband and I hired him to do a "chimney sweep" and clean the chimney. He was at my home for approximately 45 min, he spent the majority of that time walking around my house and looking up at the chimney and then cleaned out the firebox (but did not clean the chimney as he was hired to do). My husband comes home and looks at chimney and tells me he didn't do a chimney cleaning, he only took all the stuff out of the firebox (ceramic logs and a nice fire poker that my husband had). My husband called him back asking to bring back the fire poker and Jeffrey said he "accidentally" threw it out in the garbage and couldn't get it back, even though we called him in the evening of the same day that he came. Jeffrey is a liar, a crook, and a thief, he never cleaned the chimney and he stole the nice fire poker. We never got the fire poker back. And we paid him $105 to come to our house, rob us, and not clean the chimney (even though he told me he did his job so I wrote him out a check). My husband and I are mad and would never hire him again to do anything. read more

He walked me through the whole process and helped the hubby and I with the purchase. The two techs (I will go as far to Mary Poppins it and say chimney sweepers) on his team were professional and even kind when bucket of soot littered my fireplace from the previous occupants that probably never cleaned it. Well. After them breaking the masonry that didn't really need to be replaced...I exchanged multiple calls with an unprofessional person who scheduled the wrong date for them to repair their error. Then didn't show up because "I didn't answer the phone" when they called. I'm sorry. I thought you were supposed to show up when you have an appointment. The owner was genuine. I originally moved in my house knowing my fireplace needed some work per my inspector. I hired FACTS off Groupon to do a chimney cleaning. The receptionist was friendly and the initial service was prompt. They gave me a list of "fixes" they recommended which were consistent with my inspection. They were going to seal some cracks, seal my gas inlet, install a new cast iron fireback, a new cast iron fire grate, bird guards, and clean my dryer vent. The service was going to be $550 plus the cost of the bird guards (they weren't sure how many I needed). I was required a $275 deposit. On the initial visit they installed the fireback but it was too big and he had to "bend" one of the sides to get it to fit (something I realized later but more on this in a minute). The fire grate they brought was a little large and stuck out the front of the fireplace not allowing the screen to close. He tried to "push" the grate and force it in but it wouldn't go. He explained that he could order a smaller one and come back but would leave a smaller one in the meantime so that I could still burn a fire. I figured that was a fair trade and agreed. Then he came back with a smaller stainless steel fire grate and said he had this as an option as they did not have a cast iron one that would fit in my "smaller" fire place and this was the best option for me. He said he could give it to me for $140 less than the cast iron one. We negotiated the amount I still owed (since I put down the deposit), he packed up and started to leave. I asked about the bird guards/dryer vent cleaning and he said it was too late and would have to come back. Then he told me how the dryer vent was something I should do myself and not "waste" the money. They left and I was upset I called and spoke to Alex who identified herself as the Operations Manager. I explained my frustrations and she assured me she would get this fixed. 2 days later they returned but I was at work. I came home to find they cleaned the vent and installed the bird guards but found a fire grate which was significantly smaller than the first one and was obviously used before as it had char marks on it. The grate, which had 4 small legs to fit over the gas inlet, was "balancing" on 4 pieces of masonry brick that he had broken into small pieces. If you touched/loaded it with wood the whole grate would teeter and fall over. Upset, I called back the number of the tech. He said he was told to put the bricks under the grate and was following orders but would have someone call me back to discuss it further as he was "busy" at the moment. A guy named Jeff called me back and identified himself as the Owner. He apologized for my experienc multiple times and explained that normally they would use firebricks, not masonry bricks, to prop up smaller grates to fit over the gas inlets. He agreed to come the next day to fix it. He showed up with a brand new fire grate and 4 fire bricks. He set it up and asked if that was sufficient and offered to come back after the season and make some discounted repairs to fix things so that we could then find a better solution to the firegrate. I agreed as family was starting to pour in. The next day I lit a fire. I opened the damper and lit the wood. Within 5 minutes my house was filled with smoke not to mention my kids were all screaming that they thought the house was burning down when the smoke detectors starting blaring. After dragging burning logs out of the fire and throwing them in a bucket outside I realized that the fireback was so big it was only allowing the damper to open about 1/2 inch as opposed to the full 90 degrees it should open up. I called the next day furious that I was going to have to have them come out again. I spoke to Alex again who was relaying everything to Jeff in the background. I could hear him explaining that everything worked fine when he was there so there should not have been a problem. This only made me more upset because there was NO WAY the damper opened when he was there with the fireback installed. He came back out again a few days later. He came in and saw that the fireback in deed was the wrong size and said he was just trying to maximize the size for me initially and apologized again. He gave me a smaller one and offered to do chimney cleaning for free the next couple of years to make up for my troubles. I told him to refund some of my money and explained how unhappy I was with all the service. I explained this was a simple, routine service and there is no way it should have been handled. He refunded $100. I'll never use them again and should have read all the previous reviews. Extremely disappointed in their service read more

scheduled an appointment with scott who is a smooth talker but a big bs er!! i waited at my house for 2 hours and kept trying to reach him and no answer or text he called me 3 hours later with a big story about being on stand by from vegas flight the night before and didn't get in until noon but would make it up and when would i like to reschedule.. so being a forgiving individual i scheduled for friday morning and even spoke to him on thursday night confirming he would be there personally on friday am at 9 am. waited two hours again for this p.o.s. who once again blew me off. i'm blown away how these people run a business of lies and b.s. 0 starS would be better for the no service and waste of my time!!!!! thanks a lot for wasting my time scott !!! read more
