I travel the country including all North America and the Caribbean. I had the unfortunate experience of dining in this local establishment in my home town. It was from the beginning nothing less than disappointing to say the least. It came recommended from friends and family, but turned out to be less than desired. Starting out from requiring $3 to have some warm bread, which is akin to showing up to a Mexican restaurant that wants to charge you for chips & and salsa. Then following up to charging for $9 for a draft beer which is basically the price for a 6 pack. But all of that aside, they have a Haddock Fish Fry on Special. So I figure I'll have that and when she offers something other than fries, I say I'd like the mashed potatoes with gravy, (trying to choose a healthier option), she informs me they don't have gravy. Who serves mashed potatoes without gravy???? I mean seriously???!! So, I go ahead with the mashed without gravy, and hope for the best. Well.....................as could be expected at this point.............the fried Haddock is crusted in "who knows what!", but is the worst "Friday Night Fish Fry" that I have ever had. It was crusted in the most tasteless and over cooked coating that I have ever tasted. It was over cooked as well. It is one of the only meals i have not finished in recent years, which is frustrating for me as a local restaurant, but I cannot let this lack of quality continue for my fellow guests. What an elegant entrance modern yet comfortable. The bar looks inviting and the dining area has 5 star quality. From where we were seated we could see an area to the far end of the bar with a nice stage a few bar tables and an open area for dancing. We were there for the charcuterie pairing board which was a delight. Unlike the usual the first two were wines, a warm and inviting red blend that both sweet and dry drinkers enjoyed, and a white being a Chardonnay none thought they would enjoy but all of us did, then an Irish whiskey which would seem off but with the pairings was so on, ending with a gin and tonic cocktail that again had all thinking nay yet ending up very much yay. The board had four accompanying cheeses, which one was the best... none as each was excellent alone and paired as indicated but I must say the blue cheese was a surprise as it was mostly creamy and the blue came in without being ostentatious. The strawberry was coated with a light sugar glaze was oh so worthy, the chilled asparagus stood out on its own slightly crisp with a bit of tang, meats were heartily flavorful with enough salt to meld the tastes together. Tastings in the FLX average $15 for 4 wines sans good. At $30 for all this is a tasty bargain. We also visited the upstairs...what a view and a beautiful spot for an event. We will return for dinner now that we have had a taste of what's to come. Service oh my I almost forgot and how could I as everyone passing the table greeted and smiled and our server was at our table checking us often and happily so. They certainly have made the place look beautiful on the inside. I have been one time and it was good, but not outstanding. Which I would expect it to be based on the prices. My salmon was over cooked and the side was boring. Plus the food took forever to come out. So, I hope they add some lower priced items. I will venture back there again in a couple days months with my fingers crossed. read more

Fireside Inn has been under new management for only two months, now called Fireside By the River. It's been totally transformed from a banquet mill into a classy eatery. The new decor is contemporary with warm, tasteful soft lighting, fireplaces and very comfortable furniture. Though this restaurant specializes in steaks & seafood, we were pleasantly surprised with their other dishes. Having spent a lot of time in Louisiana, we know the real deal when it comes to Cajun food. Fireside's shrimp & grits is spiced just right and was delicious. We also found their cauliflower steak dish delightful on the taste buds. The carefully prepared chimichurri sauce made the difference. Our neighbors raved about the pork chops, described as thick and succulent, and the crab-stuffed haddock. Our margarita was strong and had a bite. When the owner asked if it was to our satisfaction and we said, frankly, no, he immediately had his staff whip up a replacement to our liking at no extra cost. He is a serious restauranteer who seeks honest feedback from customers. Wait staff are attentive and very personable. Fireside Inn under its new proprietorship is well worth a visit. read more

Everything about the remodel is perfectly done. So much attention to detail - the fireplaces look so nice, carpet nice, bars. They did such a nice job decorating for the holidays too. I hope to make this place a tradition for the holidays. The price rib and scallops were great and for New Year's Eve they had a great buffet with penne, Turkey and more. And salad bar. Not packed, very comfortable. I heard there was a new owner and lots of new changes. I grew up coming here as a kid and was so excited to see. I was so impressed. The waitress said the new owner started a few years ago so that explains the past reviews. There's a nice upstairs are with a pretty chandelier and private bar for events. Came here on thanksgiving as we didn't want to cook. Had a lovely Buffett style spread with good food everything from turkey ham stuffing you name it. Food was hot and tasty. Desserts piled up ready for the taking. It was a quiet but large venue with soft music in the background. Very well done read more

We used the Fireside for our wedding reception and could not have asked for a better experience! Everyone we talked to had an amazing night. The food was great, staff was so kind and helpful. Joanna is the real MVP. I went to her with basically no idea what to do and she gave me exactly what I didn't know I wanted. The one thing about our day that started to fall apart, she fixed immediately even though it wasn't her problem to fix for us. Terrible customer service by woman who answered the phone. Was calling to see what time the restaurant opens so I can come by a $100 gift card and the woman sighs on the phone and said they're too busy to do gift cards and to come in Sunday. I'll gladly take my business elsewhere when you have sigh at a customer and tell them you're too busy. read more

We went to the all you can eat Thursday buffet. At $30 it's a bargain for what you get! The prime rib was superb. 30 years ago this place was famous for prime rib. The new owners obviously wanted to capitalize on that and they have successfully done it! read more

Will not return for dinner. Arrived Friday night 5/10/19 at 6:10pm, They charged us a $5 cover for the band when we got in and did get seated right away. Waitress never came till 6:35 got us water for table of 4 and then disappeared. Came back at 6:45, we ordered. Never received our meals till 8:30 pm. Waited 2 1/2 hours. We were about to walk out at 8:15 but I went to find our waitress never saw her but some other waitress asked if she could help. I told her to cancel our meals we were leaving. She said that she would check and they were being plated then. Took 10 more mins to arrive at table. I regret that we stayed we were celebrating a birthday and didnt want to leave at first. . Food was not that good after that long wait. Nothing was offered to us just excuses. The waitress didn't check on us. Other than to give us pitchers of water. Never came back to see if we needed anything -excuse was that there was too many customers at one time and the kitchen was backed up. Ok you can excuse that but to wait 2 1/2 hours no way would I go back to eat. We had a gift card and wanted to use it. So we wanted to use up the gift card so we decided to order dessert. The waitress offers dessert choices then after we order, comes back to tell us that they are out of one of the desserts. We said forget it. Now I have money left on the gift card. Super friendly waitress. Great bands now, too. Food is lousy. I ordered scallops...took one bite...they were bad, I mean spoiled. I then got beef tips in their place...did not want to complain again, took them home and tossed them out within a few days. Unusual for me. The beef tasted old too. Also had other dishes there and I truthfully forgot what, but they were nothing great at all. I think I had shrimp scampi and it was runny and tasteless. So go, but enjoy the music and maybe drinks (I don't drink so I don't know what to say here), but do NOT expect anything from the food. Eat elsewhere. Unfortunately this place is not at all what I had hoped it would have turned out to be. Went for Easter Dinner and never experienced such an unorganized holiday buffet in my life. Sat by a host that never said a word to us and 20 minutes later we had to ask if there were waitresses that come around for beverages. We were told ,"oh I guess nobody was assigned to you". When we asked for water refills eventually a young man came over with a giant water pitcher set it at the table and walked away, not offering to pour or any words at all for us. Smoke bucket right at the door where our child had to smell smoldering cigarettes as we waited in line to get in. Thought smoking law was 50ft from an entrance? IDK but I won't waste my money here for Sysco canned food and desserts. read more

Had dinner there last night. The food was wonderful. The soup at the salad bar was delicious. The meal was excellent, the portions were very big and the food was outstanding. Our waitress was customer service oriented and prompt they were having a band play at 7. Although a cover charge was charged stating at 6:30, we had started dinner at 5:30, we did not have to pay. We finished dinner at 6:30 and our waitress got us seats at the large bar for us to see the band play. I will be going again! read more

It was quite disappointing to visit the Fireside Inn last Friday. We went with the intent to have dinner and listen to the band. We were hit with a $10 cover charge at the door ... TEN DOLLARS! That's a big chunk of money especially when we told the gentleman at the door that 3 of us were buying dinner, buying drinks and staying to listen to the band. $30 at the door plus drinks plus dinner. It was a very expensive night out for mediocre food. Very disappointing. read more

Went with a group of people of Friday, November 17th for dinner and listen to the music. We had made reservations a week earlier since we had a fairly large group of 15. Friday was an extremely busy night. They did not have the staff to accommodate the crowd. Even though we had reservations we were seated at the had table of the banquet facility. Which was awkward in its self since it made it very difficult to converse with everyone. We were approached within 15 minutes by a waitress which took a drink order. We waited quite a while for the drinks to come. We then placed a food order, mostly dinners. That service was even slower. Folks at our table we served in waves. A friend sitting next to me was served her dinner but mine came out maybe 15 - 20 minutes later. Others waited even longer. A good 30 - 45 minutes after placing our order another person was told that the scallops they ordered were out and asked what she would like in place of that. The 4 folks at that end of table easily waited over an hour to 1 1/2 hour for their food. When the food finally came they were told that a large party got in ahead of them that is why it was delayed. Another person from our party ordered a hamburger and it was nearly raw. She returned the food and waited another 30 - 40 minutes for a replacement. Folks ordered the French Dip and it not only came out cold but also did not come with any au jus. When they questioned the waitress she seemed a bit confused and brought them horseradish sauce. It was basically a cold roast beef sandwich. Never once while we were there for the 2.5 hours did we get asked if we would like another drink. Folks at our table that ordered the side salad were told that they ran out of salad. As a substitute she brought them each a beer. The renovations they have made to the place are nice but they really need to get their act together when it comes to service and quality of food. I Would not recommend this place unless all you want is drinks. Then I would suggest going to the bar to get them yourself. read more

My friends and I had seen a lot of ads on tv for the new Fireside . At this time they are only open Thursdays and Fridays . We went there on a Thursday evening for their buffet . The large room that had been wonderfully remodeled had enough tables to maybe seat 200 people . Most of the evening there were only around 12 people the entire time we were there . All of the people that tended to us were very helpful and took very good care of our every need . The buffet had prime rib , maple salmon , fried chicken , pasta , vegetable mix , bake potato, and mashed potato , soup and of course a salad bar -- there was an array of ok desserts . We both had a soda and 1 coffee . Our total came to 72.00 dollars plus a tip for two people . ( It was very cold in the room) . Well this is not the kind of money we would drop every week , hopefully they improve on what they are working at . I wish them good luck and success in the future . read more

Made a reservation for 8 for dinner Friday evening at 6:30. When we got there our table had been given away to another party of 8. We were charged a 5.00 a person cover charge to walk in the door. We were given a table and waited for the rest of our party. The other people in our party were not charged the 5.00 each? I went back up to ask why we were charged and the manager said well really I should go to your table and charge the others also. Then I was told the bouncer didn't know the policy regarding the cover charge?? Finally they gave back the 20.00 cover charge. We sat at the table for a while and finally a waitress came and we were advised they were short staffed and she would take our drink order. It seemed like it was going to be a while to get some food so we ended up getting the drinks and then bailing. I wish we had been told when I made the reservation there would be a cover charge and a loud band would be playing during dinner. Not impressed. Don't think we will go back. read more
