I have a lot to say about this place but I'll sum it up for those that just want to skim reviews: Happy Hour- 5 stars Food - 4 stars Atmosphere - 3 stars Music- 5 stars Prices- 4 stars Now on to the details: We came here for happy hour (4-7pm every day - great hours!). It's actually inside a hotel and so on a Saturday night it was almost completely empty so the vibe was a little weird since we were one of 3 patrons. However, the service was fast (not too fast or rushed though) which was nice. We ordered the Costa Mesa Peach cocktail, which was pretty good (very fruity/citrusy) then the chicken tacos, fish tacos, and bruschetta from the happy hour menu. Everything was delicious. They came served on wooden cutting boards all hipster-style (Oh and did I mention the water was served in mason jars? Yeah, hipster 2015). I highly recommend the fish tacos. They're cooked to perfection. At the end we ordered chocolate lava cake for dessert. PSA: It does NOT come with ice cream! But you can/should order a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top! They definitely lose points for that. The cake was really good though not the best I've ever had. Lastly, the music was top-notch. Classic rock is where it's at. Brought me back to my younger days, driving around with my dad. I would call this place a subtly hipster/modern vibe with classic roots. Tucked away inside Crown Plaza Hotel is this spacious and swanky bar that boasts a not-too-shabby-happy-hour menu! I came with my gang of thirsty and hungry millennials (that's how I roll to keep myself young-wink, wink) on a Friday night and there was plenty of room for us inside. The patio was reserved for a private event which is good 411 if you want to have a party here. Craft beers on tap, cocktails, and appetizers are all discounted from 4-7PM daily. We are staying here for a work event and the food and bar service has definitely been fair, not great for the whole 2+ weeks. From order to bring out was over an hour for a soup on the starter menu. Enjoyed and sampled plenty of the happy hour food. Enjoyed all of it. Drinks were slow. The speciality Happy hour cocktails seemed too sweet, but tried em. The service was mind numbing slow. Or the kitchen was off. Nothing came out on time, together or hot. This includes drinks, too. Com'on, beer isn't that hard to put. Or is it?? Not bad! Came here for a quick little date night since this place is close to my apartment. We came on a Thursday night at 6 and we were seated right away. They have happy hour from 4-7 (which is the reason we came) and we ordered solely from the HH menu. We were just in one of those moods where we wanted to only eat appetizers so the HH menu was perfect! We ended up ordering the Sampler Platter & Brews and a Tavern Burger with a side of fries (we didn't really want the burger but figured we should eat something more substantial than just appetizers haha). The Sampler Platter was everything I wanted -- fried foods a plenty! My favorite thing was the JALAPEÑO CHEESE STICKS!!!!!! The wings had a good buffalo sauce but were not very crispy, the bruschetta was good but the bread could've been toasted, onions rings were okay, and the chips and salsa were fine. But man, I loved those cheese sticks!! The fries were good too, a little salty and not as crispy as I hoped, but they were seasoned and overall yummy. The tavern burger was your standard burger with all the fixins. It had the potential to be good but the patty was a bit dry and didn't have much flavor except salt. The side of ranch really helped add some moisture to the burger. I think it'd be great to get to customize the cook on the burger because I think it could've been great if cooked medium rare! Overall, I would've given this place 3 stars, but the happy hour deals are great so 4 stars it is!! read more

Looking for a place with great food, wonderful drinks and spot on customer service? Look no further...Fireside Tavern is it! What I absolutely loved about the place is the welcoming feel from the staff. The waitress I had and the bartenders were absolutely AMAZING! I was staying in the Hilton across the street from where the tavern is located (Crowne Hotel) and found myself giving them my business more to them than I did the Hilton. On the first go, I had their Garlic Parmesan wings, with the regular seasoned fries. The wings were great! Juicy, succulent, and full of flavor! The fries were on point as well! I was introduced to a couple of "secret" sauces that are not on the menu but if you ask for the following: truffle aioli or the Sriracha aioli, you'll be introduced to these elusive creatures. WAIT! There's more!! On my third trip back, I went on happy hour which is from 4-7 everyday I believe. I had returned to try out a rare find...their Spicy Mojito and the Spicy Cheese Sticks. When I say my mind was BLOWN.....words can't explain. If you're a cheese head and love spice, then that appetizer is for you! Keep in mind though, the sticks are only available during happy hour! The Mojito is exactly what it is but it has the ghastly presence of a fresh Serrano pepper muddled in the mix. I dropped by Fireside Tavern for dinner with a group of friends. The parking lot and hotel lobby need some work, but the restaurant was modern and spacious. There's also a cute outdoor area. I browsed the Happy Hour menu but decided on the Caesar Salad with shrimp off the regular dinner menu. It was a lot bigger and tastier than expected! I forgot to request dressing on the side like I usually do but it wasn't overdressed. I enjoyed the shrimp a lot too. Our waitress (I believe her name was Ana) took care of our entire table of 12 women by herself and graciously accommodated our separate checks. LOTS OF FREE PARKING, thank goodness. Big dining space too, inside and outside. Service was good, I sat near the bar. They have two television screens and on one of the TVs, the Food Network Channel was on! Score. Anthony Bourdain, Parts Unknown. I ordered the fries. It's a lot of food. Plus, they gave me two dipping sauces + ketchup. Very tasty. Then came the sliders. It's a lot of bread on the bun but overall, it was pretty good. The price was too good to be true. If I had gone anywhere else, it would have been double what they normally charge. As if that wasn't enough, they have happy hour prices on their food and drinks too, which I must partake in soon. It's always great having dinner with our awesome Yelp friends, Laina and Rohlin A. When we met them at Fireside Tavern the other night, it was so nice to catch up. Nothing's better than wonderful friends, good food, and great service! We started with some appetizers. Smothered with just enough duck confit and cheese, the Duck Fries were great. The Grilled Flatbread was delicious too! With the right amount of chicken, BBQ sauce, and gouda cheese on the perfectly grilled flatbread, this was incredibly yummy! I ordered the Tavern Cobb Salad. With lots of fresh turkey, bacon, avocado, tomato, egg, and blue cheese, with a wonderful creamy dressing, this was one great salad. Although I'm not exactly sure what was in this dressing (I noticed the delicious avocado), this dressing helped make this salad terrific. Although my son said his kid's Mac n Cheese was "just okay" (it really lacked flavor), my husband liked his burger. The Proprietor's Burger had two unique cheeses (taleggio and dolcelatte), bacon, and tomato, and was very filling and tasty. My husband said the burger was "very good", which is unusually high praise coming from him! I thought the service was good here too. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were checked on often, and our waitress was really nice. The restaurant had a cool, relaxed vibe as well. When we wanted to see the score to the Ducks game, they changed one of the channels for us. Even though the Ducks lost, it was nice using the time to catch up with friends. With the relaxed atmosphere, good food, and friendly service, I look forward to stopping by this restaurant for their Happy Hour sometime in the near future! read more

Fine selections of wine! I got their French Dip and it was lacking true thickness of meat. It was more shredded meat, a bit on the oily side, but it hit the spot. Wings were of the standard. Yum! I like their Charcuterie platter that consisted of Truffle Brie cheese, marinade Balsamic vinegar, Blue cheese, grapes, salami and other cured meat! It's great for happy hour and this place has a nice spacious lounge with open space near the fireside! There's outside patio that has contemporary fire as well! Nicely named and located in the Crown Plaza hotel! My only complaint would be the staffing. They seemed a bit lacking because I had to get the attention of one waiter, who was the only one there running the show the entire time I was dining. I wasn't patient enough to wait so I went to the bar counter to order my wine. I was thirsty. On another lounging time I was here, I had to fetch for my own tap water because the limited staff members were preoccupied. I couldn't wait. I was thirsty. Pretty good place to grab a quick bite to eat. We came here late for lunch after arriving in Costa Mesa because our rooms at the Hilton were not quite ready. Their French Dip wasn't too bad, but the meat was a bit too thick for me. I did enjoy their sweet yam though and their sauce. It also took our food a long time to arrive at our table. I think we waited like more than 30-45 minutes. Maybe it was the changing of the shift? Service though was pretty good, however our waitress forgot to put in a few orders like soup, so we had to cancel that out as we were afraid it would take another 45 minutes. Overall, not bad and dinner I would hope is better? Crown Plaza usually does a good job with their in house services, but quite possibly this one might have been left, unchecked! I just finished rockin' out with Carl St. Clair and the Pacific Symphony on a Tuesday night... where the heck can I find some late night grub in Costa Mesa? Surprisingly, there aren't that many places open after the show. Instead of doing TGIF or Karl Strauss, we opted to try Fireside Tavern. Just over the 405 freeway hill in the Crowne Plaza Hotel is this large restaurant/lounge. It's open until midnight. They have late night happy hour! 4 Stars for the 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. - 12 a.m. happy hours. They only serve the happy hour menu after 10 p.m. 3.5 stars if you had to pay full price for non-happy hour. Items we had for Happy Hour (happy hour prices noted): Moscow Mule ($6) - All margaritas and mules are $6 during happy hour! Smothered Fries ($7) - Fries with melted cheese and short rib on top. The short rib has a lot of flavor, they marinate it real good. It could use a little gravy or sauce to go on top of the fries, but other than that, they were good. Proprietor's 8 oz. Burger ($8) - Half Pound Burger with Taleggio Cheese, Nueske Bacon, Tomato Jam and Arugula on a Toasted Sesame Brioche with fries. It's not mind blowing, but it's good. I'd order this again. Tavern Grilled Cheese ($8) - Aged Vermont Cheddar, Gruyere, Nueske Bacon, Grilled Onions in Sourdough Bread. Served with pickles and thick cut potato chips. Everything tasted good, I just wished the bacon was cooked to a crisp before they put it in the sandwich. The fatty parts were a little limp which is ehhhh in my book. The interior here is sweet. It has a cabiney feel but in a modern way. There's a pig in the dining room and there are TVs in the bar area. There was only one server working the late shift and she didn't forget a thing. It was quiet when we went. If you are racking your brains to find an after-the-show place to get some eats at, Fireside Tavern is as good of a place as any. Their contemporary bar food is all around good, especially for the happy hour price. Where else are you going to find $4 Wines, Blue Crab Deviled Eggs ($4), Tater Tots with Baked Potato Toppings ($5), Pimento Cheese Fondue ($4) or Charcuterie & Cheese Board ($8) at 11 p.m. on a weeknight? read more

Based on word of mouth, we took a work group to lunch. Walking in, we were struck by the fact that it was pretty cool for being located in a Crown Plaza Hotel. Before we ever took a bite, we were thrilled by the presentation of our meals. Wow. Considering the group was full of designers, it takes a lot to get their approval on something visual. But as one designer said, "Everything looks camera-ready." High praise indeed. Did everything taste good? Very much so. The burger is about the best I've had in the OC, and absolutely crushes nearby Umami Burger. The Rueben is another fav, and we loved the happy hour bites! They have a rotating list of excellent craft beers, and some great wine choices at seriously reasonable prices (bottle of B Wise Wisdom only $40--a huge deal). These guys truly work passionately to make you a fan. With their terrific prices and a hip vibe, the Tavern quickly won us over. Why don't people know about it? They don't have a sign in front yet (buried in hotel and city ordinance red tape, I hear). I've been there 5 times already, and definitely going back soon. read more

We were excited to try this spot because it looked like it had decent reviews. We came in on a Monday night and they were pretty busy for only having 1 server and 1 bartender. The food took about 30/40 min to come out and everything was super dry and not very flavorful especially when you're paying at least $20 for a plate. We waited about 20 minutes just for our soda to come out. The BBQ burger was the driest and least flavorful thing i've ever tasted considering it comes with sauce on it. Came for my friend's 22nd birthday! Happy birthday Kelly! Shoutout to you!! Also, I would have been lost if my friend didn't tell me that this place was located inside a hotel. Make sure not to miss that! Plus, there's plenty of parking. The restaurant itself is fancy. Looks even fancier because it's inside the hotel. Anyways, I ordered the flat bread for about $12. It's pretty small for the price... So I'm not sure how I feel about that. Although I did get full, I would say it isn't for sharing. Also, one of my friend paid for my beer. Thanks Aeron. This restaurant is located inside the Crown Plaza Hotel. There was no visible signage outside for Fireside Tavern. The only reason I came here was because I found it on Yelp and decided to try it out. Upon walking in, we were greeted by the bartender and he let us choose our seats. The only people in there were at the bar, the rest of the place was empty, which should have been a red flag. We got our drinks quickly enough. My husband got the house Cabernet Sauvignon which was decent. After getting drinks no one came to take our order. We waited about 15 minutes before someone walked by again and I asked for the chips and salsa (which were really good: the chips were nice and warm and the salsa was spicy) I had to flag someone down to take our order after we were sitting there for about 30 minutes. Once we finally got our food, it was mediocre at best. I ordered a New York strip, rare, with grilled asparagus. My steak was medium to medium-well and my asparagus was either steamed or microwaved. I didn't try to let them know because there was no one to tell plus I had been there forever already. I just wanted to eat something already and leave. Although I really appreciated the bartender going to the back and asking the kitchen if they can still whip some food up, I wish he had just turned us down. The meat made me gag. The fish tacos had sprinkles of cabbages and they looked so sad. Wahoo does a better job on their fish tacos. And the flatbread? My Digorno tastes AND looks ten times better. After a day's shopping, happy hour was much needed and after searching on yelp, this popped up as their happy hour doesn't end til 7pm. They have a handful of food items listed for happy hour in addition to a full menu. We opted for the fish tacos, flatbread, and hand cut fries. The fish tacos were the best tasting of the three. It had a nice crispy exterior with some shredded cabbage and spicy green salsa on the side. Very simple but still delicious. The flatbread we tried was the Special, which consisted of BBQ chicken, caramelized onions and shredded smoked Gouda. I liked the flatbread itself as it was thin and crispy but the chicken was a bit dried and not much BBQ sauce. Also I wasn't too big of a fan on smoked Gouda so it didn't taste that good to me. As for the handout fries, they were on the thicker side served with three dipping sauces: spicy mayo, a truffle based sauce, and thousand island. The fries were not a hit, it tasted like it was fried in old oil. In addition to the food, they have a variety of alcoholic drinks including beers on tap, wines, and cocktails for a decent price. I had the Flirtini which was pretty good and a bit strong. It is located inside the Crowne Plaza hotel. Parking can be found in front of the hotel as well. Inside is pretty spacious, great for big parties or events. I also liked that they had an outdoor patio. Overall, it was ok. Typically I'm not too keen on hotel restaurants but it was one of the few nearby that had a later happy hour. I do agree with others that their service is subpar. They didn't seem as attentive as I had to flag someone down a few times for water refills. read more

It's a nice restaurant inside Crowne Plaza Hotel. We came for happy hours and it was empty around 5:30pm. Our server was attentive & food was good. We ordered house made hand cut fries, spinach artichoke dip, crispy fish tacos, spicy chicken tacos and bar wings - buffalo & honey chipotle. The only food item we didn't like was the honey chipotle chicken wings. It was not spicy and just sweet. We asked our server and she said it should be spicy. The manager was going around asking how the food was and we told her about the wings. She said it should be spicy. We were all confused as the 5 of us agreed that it was not spicy whatsoever. 15 minutes later, the manager brought us the chipotle wings. The glazed on the wings looked more pinkish then the 1st batch. There was a kick to the wings this time and it was spicy.
