They didn't start working on my car until I had been waiting the hour and fifteen minutes they originally quoted me. Remember from my previous review that I called in ahead to make an appointment. Upon complaining and threatening to take my truck out they gave me a discount and told me 20 more minutes. I'm already here so I'll give this next 20 min a try but if I'm not out of here within 30 they'll hear from me again. Also, while I was complaining about my wait time another customer who was here an hour before me was also complaining. He also had an appointment that wasn't really honored. Definitely would not recommend this location to anyone due to ridiculous wait times regardless if you plan to walk-in or set up an appointment. Avoid at all costs!! read more

Granted, it's hard to find a good, honest mechanic. And it doesn't help that lots of folks who write Yelp reviews on this kind of place don't really know what they should have gotten in the first place. That said, we've been to Carlsbad Firestone twice in the past few months -- once to repair a flat tire (which went fine), and the other day to repair the brakes on a Honda Accord. The Honda had recently developed a loud wear indicator-type sound when applying the brakes. Seeing as how we're turning in this leased piece of crap in May (can you Yelp a car model?), I was pissed that we now had to spend money on repairs. But brakes aren't something to trifle with -- and certainly not for another 5 months and 6,000 miles. Since all our vehicles are under warranty, I hadn't had much need for a mechanic the past few years. So I was basically starting from scratch looking for someone to do these brakes. I started with Yelp, but as I've already explained, most folks writing about anything other than food on Yelp seem to mostly be sputtering, frustrated people who just seem to assume they've been ripped off. I then went to Car Talk's on-line Mechanic Search files, which suggested that a certain indy shop on Tyler Street in Carlsbad was most everyone's mechanical dreamboat. So I stopped by there to talk with the owner, who said he was amazed we'd gotten 40,000 miles out of our original brakes, and was pretty sure the car would at least need pads all around ... but that it might need more. He guesstimated we'd be starting at $350, and going from there. Call me skeptical, but I was uneasy with that attitude. So as a last resort, I checked the website of the Carlsbad Firestone that had recently repaired our flat tire. I found a coupon there to do a free brake inspection, and if needed, to replace the pads and mill the rotors for for repair for $99.99 per axle (with a lifetime warranty on parts). Which meant we'd be starting at $199.98 instead of $350, and for work done by a place backed by a Fortune 500 company to boot. Which sounded like a gamble worth taking. Long story short, we dropped off the car at about 9am without an appointment. By 10:30am, they'd called to say the front brakes still had 8mm on them, but that the rears had only 1mm left and really needed to go. And by 1pm they'd called to say the work was done. Total price: $103.05. Not too shabby compared with "starting at $350, and going from there." I will say that the guy who helped us with our flat had tried pretty hard to push the idea we needed new tires -- even though I'd explained we were soon returning the car on lease. But since then, we'd gone by Costco and had the tire folks look at them, and they said the tires still had life in 'em. So I was fully prepared this time to deal with another sales pitch from these people who, let's face it, sell tires for a living. But to my amazement, the guy who had called with the brake repair estimate only said the tires all still had more than 3/32 of an inch of tread left, and let it go at that. Wow. Maybe this experience was a fluke, but for now, I'm a fan of Carlsbad Firestone. Could it have gone differently? You bet. These places only offer these low-cost deals to get you in the door so they can try to sell you other stuff. Those drive-through oil change places have turned this approach into a veritable art form. The test, however, is whether the extra stuff they try to sell you is legit. In our case, it went fine. But if you think you're susceptible to being easily bullshitted about car repairs, maybe just try to have someone go with you who can help cut through the chatter? Like many things in life, arranging for car repairs is a kind of negotiation. And the most important thing in any negotiation, is to start from a position of knowledge. *** Okay, one last thought. The website repairpal-dot-com is supposed to provide cost estimates for car repairs to "ensure[] you never pay more than you should." But their estimate for doing all brake pads on this car was $432 to $566! Holy shyte. This website must be *owned* by car repair places. read more

I've been to this location a few times now, the mister wanted a one stop shop close to home for tires, oil changes, brakes, etc... so we gave this place a go. Everyone here are always super friendly and they really do not try to up sell which is nice. The only problem is that they take FOREVER AND A DAY to get things done. If I had major shopping to do, no problem because the mall is just steps away. So usually we do go to the mall to kill time. BUT if a simple oil change with their complimentary inspection takes over 3 freakin hours.....wth?!?!! Every single visit took over 2 1/2 hours which quite frankly is ridiculous! There's just so much I can buy at the mall. Any longer there I'd be classified as a mall rat!! Fast forward....We are still here.....got here at 1:15 pm, went to the mall and waited for their phone call to let us know when it'll be ready. Didn't receive a call so decided to head over there anyway. Walking up we see the car on the lift. Ummmmm.....it's exactly 4:30pm right now and we are STILL WAITING! Don't bother making an appointment because they will quote you an hour and a half and it will take 4 hours. My brother, my friends, myself- we have all learned to stop going here. They seriously need to get their scheduling right. My friend and I went in for an oil change - a walk-in, they told us 1.5 to 2 hours. Which was fine because we headed to mall to shop. They need to be honest and say how many cars are ahead of yours and it will take 5 hours to get an oil change. Seriously 5 hours later, ridiculous. The manager Brian is really nice and apologetic but it doesn't matter when he offers 10 to 30% off and free services because it's still not worth it. read more

Great quality tires at a good price. These guys gave me a phenomenal deal on Revo II's for my truck (killer tires - way better than the BFG All Terrains I had for years). My truck did take a little longer than expected, but the managers Gil, Blair, and especially Brian were very attentive to make sure that I was still happy. They run awesome deals all the time - I got a lifetime alignment package that's good for the life of my truck (not just my tires) for $159. And they seem to always be running specials. Be sure to check online for coupons. These guys are great at making sure you get the best deal possible. I remained in the lobby while they worked on my truck - and saw them do a really good job of keeping their customers happy. They were extremely friendly and were available to answer any and all questions. I even had a few of my own come up while I was waiting. They close at 07:00 - but a woman came in at 06:55 saying she needed tires badly so she could get to work. They stayed open an extra two hours just to help this woman out and and get tires on her car for her. They didn't try to sell me repairs or service I didn't need - which is so refreshing. Purchased 4 new tires from this location. Noticed a rear tire making noise on the freeway. Re-Visited location 3 times, waited 2 plus hours in one of the visits, spent $$ & time, still not fixed. Drove up to a competitor of this location & within one minute of my explanation the attendant called out problem then had mechanic validate. I would not recommend this business specifically due to lack of knowledge when & if a problem arises. Their answer was for me to spend more money. read more

These guys are really great at what they do. I have a BMW 750li and needed brakes and tires. The dealer in Encinitas has quoted me over $2400 for 4 tires and brakes. I called and spoke with the Store Manager Erik. He got me set up with 4 run flat Drive Guard tires and brakes all the way around and saved me over $700. They even brought me out to show me my brakes before going over the pricing. The pads have a lifetime warranty and he upgraded me to Akebono pads which he said would help me with the annoying brake dust on my wheels. He was right. 3 weeks later and I haven't had to clean them off. I will definitely be back. Especially for a the Lifetime Alignment which I didn't have time to do. My only complaint is that I had to come back to have the brake pad light turned off on my dash. They forgot to reset it. But Brian came out quickly and reset the system in like 2 minutes. Came here to get my breaks done. My breaks still squeaked and I called them. They said it was dust. A month later my breaks were still squealing and shuttering. I brought the car in and they told me they were "redoing the breaks and rotters". Funny, because my rotters weren't bad the last time. More like they CHARGED me and didn't change the breaks. When I brought that up, the guy walked away from me. I got the managers card but the phone number is the main office and their isn't anyway to contact him. So either they put new breaks on bad rotters ... and neglected to tell me they were bad. OR they didn't actually change them. Regardless, they are NEGLIGENT! read more

My friend told me she got her oil changed here and when my maintenance light came on I thought I'd better just take it in locally. I braced myself for the up-sell and was pleasantly surprised when it didn't come. Everyone on the team was professional and polite. They even gave me credit for a coupon they are currently running without my asking. My father has taken his jeep here for years, and despite his loyalty to this shop they to this day continue to give both he and myself the run around. My dad had his tires rotated a while back, and when he left he discovered that the technicians at this location forgot to tighten down his lug nuts and lo an behold, his tire destroyed his axle. I went here recently for an oil change, rotation and tune up. Not only did they take almost 9 hours for what should have been a routine procedure (there was no other cars before me) but they treated me like an idiot. In order to push up costs they attempted to convince me that I needed new rear brakes (which I had replaced less than 2 months ago at another shop) and that (In their words) my "front right differential was leaking" and that they would have to order seals for it.... Front right differential? I looked under the hood after leaving, the "leak" was the condensation from my air conditioner exiting from its designated hose... I may not be savvy when it comes to the mechanics of a motor, but to insult my intelligence by stating, not only a non existing condition but, an impossible condition is petty. read more

Today I went to 6 different places and talked to 13 different mechanics looking for someone who had my back up light, and my break light, and didnt who didnt tell me it was "too much of a hassle" to fix. I went into Firestone kinda as a last resort. Great customer service. They didnt have the parts, but told me right where to go to get them, and said they would install them for me. I came back and was in and out in half an hour. I gave them 3s because I did have to go somewhere else, but overall they're a great group of guys! Thank you! read more

Took the car in today and was told without anyone looking at the car that they were not responsible, but to expect a call by 7:00pm... No call- when we call- no answer! So, we drive over there and the car is sitting right where we left it! Took my fleet vehicle in told them it started shaking when I was driving on freeway. Clearly stated I wanted it diagnosed and fixed. Gave them my fleet payment info which they verified before I left. Called me two days later and left me a voicemail stating my vehicle was done. I went to pick it up and asked what they had to fix. The guy behind counter wasn't sure, he couldn't find it on paperwork. He finally talked to service tech who told him it needed tires rebalanced and new rotors but they had not done any of the work. They had no good answer as to why so got my key and left. What a waste of time....and kind of unbelievable. read more

My initial visit i was fooled with the fake customer service. Long story short they "fixed" my car and two days later the engine light came back on so i scheduled for an appointment for that weekend. I get there and they tell me their closed due to a COVID case they found out about Thursday and there's nothing they can do for me....for one no one thought to call customers with appointments for inform them as soon as they knew they were going to be closed. The short story - Wasted half a days paid time off. Waited 3 hours. Deceived by my initial quote. Did not receive brakes or tires. Did receive awful customer service. The complete story - This is my first bad review I've ever written. Not just on Yelp, but ever. I always try to take reviews with a grain of salt, but unfortunately the majority of the reviews on here are 100% correct regarding this place... Believe them. Don't waste your time. I made an appointment for 12:30 pm to get tires and brakes done on my 2012 Ford Escape. I called in at about 11am and spoke with Jake. Jake was very helpful and took down all of my information. He said he'd take a look and call me back. He called me back five minutes later and gave me a few quotes, ranging from cheapest to most expensive. I honestly told him that the price for brakes was the cheapest I'd seen, with their coupon, but that the Bridgestone tires he was offering were about $200 more than what Costco was selling them for installed, out the door. He said they'd be happy to match the price. Awesome! Great tires and a great price for both the brakes and tires. I was fully ready and anticipating to spend the $700+ bucks for new shoes and brakes. I arrived a bit early for my appointment and spent a bit of time inspecting my tires and overall vehicle condition out in the parking lot. I questioned whether I really needed tires (I began shopping for tires after a dude changing my oil said they were bald a few weeks prior, trying to sell me a new set). I asked Jake for his honest opinion and he said they were probably good for another 5 to 10 thousand miles. I have a 5 minute commute to and from work, and I usually ride my bike, so I decided it was probably ok to wait a bit. I handed over my keys and asked him to do the brakes and rotate the tires (I figured they would already have to take the wheels off anyway). 3 hours later Brian tells me they do not carry brake pads for 2012 Ford Escapes... They must have really slow computers, since I had called at 11am and gave my vehicle specs. Specifically that Wagner, their vendor, does not make brake pads for 2012 Ford Escapes. A relatively new and common American vehicle, while at an American auto shop. This I found extremely hard to believe, but reluctantly asked how much it would cost to get some that would fit. That's where the BS started that I have come to expect from auto repair chains. The brake pads they offered were $60 more than the ones they initially quoted me. Having done basic maintenance on cars for as long as I can remember, $60 brake pads seemed egregious. $60 in addition to what I would have otherwise received was outrageous, but the mechanic --Brian, not Jake-- said he was "willing to work with me", because Jake gave me a verbal quote. I can't count the number of times I have heard "I am willing to work with you" at an auto repair chain. Of course Jake was unavailable. All BS. Brian was either lying through his teeth or completely oblivious to his trade and to customer service. I asked him to put it all back together and informed him I was coming to pick up my car. A different employee was now assisting my at the register. He, of course, knew nothing about anything I was told and offered to have me wait while either of the previous gentlemen I was working with were back from lunch. Interesting since I saw Jake walk right past me not 10 seconds prior and the mechanic was still working to put the wheels back on... The new dude began explaining to me that Wagner does not make brake pads for my vehicle. During this spurt of crap I hopped on my fancy pants smart phone and googled "2012 Ford Escape Wagner brake pads". The top results showed available Wagner pads ranging from $27.76 to $39.99 for a pair, instead of the $89.99 I was quoted (not to mention an additional $20 charge to get them). These are just for the front brakes!!! All in all, this was a horribly disappointing experience. I really had my hopes up after my initial phone call, but it all turned out to be completely false. I have been a Firestone customer for years - not so much out of loyalty, but because I have too many warranties/long-term service agreements to financially justify a switch. I was just as unhappy the few times I ventured elsewhere. The moral of my story is one snake oil salesman is much like any other - choose your poison with open eyes. I limit my car service to tires and oil changes. It always takes 30-60 minutes longer than projected (I have waited +2 additional hours, and even the next day service once)... there is only so much time I can waste toddling around the Carlsbad mall. I have started arranging for a ride home or hike across the freeway for a little variety in my day-long adventure of car repair waiting. I bought four (4) new tires last week. Sales staff up-sold me all weather tires. Given my line of work (environmental engineering-lots of driving in unknown conditions), I was happy with the purchase for the added piece of mind (safety). They also gave me a discount that made the unit price comparable to the next cheapest option... but really, you don't need all weather tires in sunny southern California. If there is no discount - just don't go there. Firestone also installed a new Tire Pressure Meter System (TPMS) kit. After enduring that stupid TPMS light for years (you can't install the kit without new tires), I was thrilled to have it go away... for three days. I can't decide whether going in to complain is worth the time or energy. read more

Never ever again!! Do not spend any money here and do not trust them with your car!! I want my money back, In the store it was stated that if we do not fix the problem the first time I will not be charged. I took my car in on Monday 12/28 2020 for an alignment as my car was pulling to the right. After the service I drove home and drove the car to work Tuesday morning and the car was pulling right exactly as it was when I took it in Monday. I called the firestone facility and they told me to bring it in Tuesday before 5 pm which I did. Upon arrival I was told that there was not any technicians available to correct the alignment problem. I was called Thursday morning and was asked what the problem was and asked to bring it back (a third time) After an hour and a half I was told it was fixed and I was told it was my tires due to "Radial pull" and was told the tires were rotated and that everthing was ok. 1/2021 Same problem!! I Want MY MONEY BACK!!! In the waiting room it clearly states THAT IF THE FIX IS NOT CORRECTED ON THE FIRST VISIT THE REPAIRS WILL BE REFUNDED!! I want my money back!! read more

They even give you reasonable prices and if you still can't afford it open up a credit card and pay monthly!!! easy-Peasy!! a car needs to be maintained and the longer we don't service it the more it's gonna need. I was told 90 minutes so I dropped my vehicle off and gave them 3 hours. When I returned my vehicle was in the same spot and never moved!! When I talked with "Tim" he just looked at me with a blank stare in regards to why my vehicle wasn't ready or even no phone call!!! I've been going to firestone for 6 total years. Of that 6 years I've been going to this firestone for 4. I am officially never coming here, nor another firestone ever again in my life. You might get the luck of the draw, but the place is such a revolving door for employees, the work done is never consistent. You'll see so many faces over time, and it's because of bad ownership via franchisee. Keep your employees but adjusting your business model and their benefits, clearly just a cash grab for the owner. Because I am a female of course they treated me less then worthy. They first told me that my flat tire would be covered. So I waited two hours for them to call me and tell me that its not fixable there for it's not covered. Last time I came here I had to come back because they put the wrong size breaks on my car. It took them 6 hours to put the right size breaks back on. I will never do business here again. The Convenience isn't worth the bad business and poor customer service. The last thing the man said to me was " well I don't know what's wrong with your tire maybe there's something wrong with you car."
