Appointments mean nothing. I went for my 11am appt to get my tire pressure (sensor) checked. Left at 11.45am when nothing happened. They had just "1 guy" working, but two of them in the office. Those two were pretty unfriendly and spent 99% of their time BSing. Maybe you need hire another mechanic (or lesser skill set) to actually check out the cars and get rid of at least one office guy. read more

So my first problems with this place should have been enough to keep me away from any firestone, ever, but I was in need of an oil change and had no time. There's a specific reason I'm writing it for this store, and that is because I now once again need a tire alignment and sadly I will never trust these people again. Went to do an oil change at their location in sf and they were actually willing to blatantly mess up my car. Never before has my car had a MISSING LUG NUT OR a broken stud on the wheel!!! That is now what I have !! Anyways so I had gotten the oil change done, got my car back, and about a week later I notice its a little wobbly. I get out to fill up air in the tires and check everythig, and lo and behold there it is... my missing stud. It was half chipped off and looked like someone had took a hammer to it! I didnt have the money to change it right then, and I had to drive for work so I went on like so for another couple of days... and then my speedometer went out. Hellish. Now I'm fed up, throw the car up on a jack, and I now have a problem with the entire passenger sides steering. Theres fluids leaking out of the rubber and my steering is completely messed up. Now this is a huge job, a couple thousand if I took it to a shop. Luckily I can do it on my own, as I should have started with. Unfortunately, when its all fixed and time to do a realignment, my 1 years worth of alignments here will be forever useless to me. Thanks! I have been a regular customer at this place for a long time now and the quality of service has been going down and down !! Everything was normal until they persuaded me to buy those lifetime wheel alignment and tire rotation services . As soon as i bought these they were like a totally different place . They made me buy change two tires in two previous services when the tires seemed pretty good to me. Made me buy a new battery even though my car is only 16 months old. Now regarding their time management !!!! I scheduled service appointment for 11 am and when i went to the store they said i had 9 cars ahead of me . Than i made an appointment again for 1pm the next day and they send me an email at 1 pm saying my appointment was cancelled for some scheduling complications !! This is really poor management and the management needs to respect their customers time. We have jobs to do and can't sit around rescheduling everyday !! Well, it was a poor experience. First, told a 'couple' of hours to install 4 new tires. Got there before 10am. Still on the rack at 3:45pm and not finished. Then I get home and this is what my tires look like. And that white residue does not just wipe off. On my hands and knees scrubbing and still won't completely come off! I've used this Firestone for years and a variety of cars ever since they were on University Avenue in Berkeley. Today is the last day I will ever walk into one of their stores. I'm at work on 4th Street at 6am, I asked if I could drop off my car early. No, they open at 7am but do not begin working on cars until 8am. So, I go my office and begin working and overlooked my appointment at 8am. Arrived at the auto shop at 8:45am. Informed the uninterested older man working at the desk that I had an appointment I was late for. No greeting, he continues on his task. Checks out another customer, takes a call, puts the call on hold, goes to the till, takes out $20 in fives, goes out to the auto bays, comes back fiddles with more paper and then picks up the call on hold and proceeds to schedule an appointment and make sales recommendations. I've been patiently waiting for 30 minutes to be at least acknowledged. I left and went back to my office with my car and started typing this review. I called the store to cancel my appointment. No questions asked as to why I did not want to reschedule. read more

Thinking we had an understanding because I was clear, concise and said it directly in t of him(store manager) as soon as my car was in the tech was looking at my fluids so I was like cool then he proceeded with going to empty my oil I was wtf hold on here!! I called them and got a quote on some Falken tires which they assured me they had in stock, I made an early morning appointment, when I got there they told me they did not have that tire in stock and wanted to sell me something else. Beware of up sell and rebate tricks. Service wait time often long. Pros: Area is clean, parking is easy and service counter guy is pleasant (only reason Firestone gets 2 stars instead of 1), but always busy with another customer asking questions/getting explanations/estimates, so average wait to drop off or pick up car is 15-25 minutes. Several restaurants and a Marshalls across the street if you need to kill time while waiting for your car (oil change averages 1.5 hours-2 hours, even with an appointment). Look for $19.99 oil change coupons in mailers (which is how they get you through the door). Cons: They will try to up sell you on new tires, batteries, etc., which is expected, since that's how they make their money. It is not high pressure and I always decline because unless they will match Costco (they can't, after they add on additional disposal, mounting, balancing, etc charges). I do not appreciate phone calls from Firestone a couple weeks later for tire sales pitches. They also have rebate specials to lure you into tire purchases or additional services. The problem is that there is no "fine print" on their rebate fliers in their shop, so after you get the services and try to claim your rebate, chances are high that you don't qualify/can't submit the rebate. This is by design, as the rebate company designs the rebate process to be cumbersome and a hassle, so Firestone actually makes money on the failure rate of their customers lured into a deal via a rebate. This deceptive practice corrodes consumer confidence. It's unfortunate that Firestone rather make a few extra bucks through rebate tricks rather than establish a trusting reputation with their customers. Therefore, I only use Firestone for oil changes and give my business to local auto shops that I can truly trust. read more

While I will say that the customer service is great and all employees are friendly the corporate push to sell product instead of service is why I don't care for Firestone. I discovered a nail in my wife's tire and called Firestone. They assured me over the phone that they could fix it for $20... Four hours later I get a call saying that we needed a brand new tire for 100 dollars. A quick call to Richmond tire and I had a repaired tire for $12. WARNING!! The moron in charge of alignments here doesn't know how to do anything other than front toe, which doesn't matter since they don't even know how to use their new alignment machine correctly. Didn't catch his name, tall asian dude, never seen him before. I suggested maybe their new machine needed to be calibrated, he just said no it's new and walked away... Came in with my E55 to get a little more toe out up front and a bit more toe in for rear. Said that I had a crazy amount of toe out on all four corners. Impossible, I'm running RE-71's for 10k now, they would've been worn down to nothing in a quarter of that time, and I would've spun out countless times. Front and rear tires are all wearing perfectly even. They adjusted my front toe to whatever specs they felt like, not the ones I requested that were still within the factory recommended range. First thing I did was call Hilltop firestone and set up another apt the next day. WELL looks like I was right, they added a bunch of toe-in up front and rears were within spec, a little too toe-out for my liking though (0.16 vs 0.3+). They set everything up how I wanted, no problems. Now instead of my car not wanting to turn and pulling hard to the right on the highway, I have nice turn in and stability over sharp bumps. Don't ever get rear suspension work done here, not worth risking your or your families lives. Front might be okay, you'd just end up with worn out tires, or understeer into a building (maybe even THIS firestone) Also I was in and out of El Cerrito in like 30 minutes.. it's been a minimum one hour anywhere else. Makes me think they were rushed and didn't care. HEY FIRESTONE OF EL CERRITO, if you need a new alignment technician, pay my OCD ass 20/hr and you won't have to worry about instances like this! read more

As it turns out, my wheel balancing was also royally fucked up. I had to make another appointment and waste another two hours. And this other idiot write-up guy, Francis, starts by assuming it's a problem with the front end alignment. I said no. Just do the wheel re-balance. Afterwards, he was full of clever excuses, saying the guy from the other day was probably "no longer here" -- clearly he won't take any responsibility for the fuck up. Last week I had locked my keys inside my car and was waiting for AAA. I happen to be in front of the Firestone location in El Cerrito. It had been three hours of waiting and I needed to use the restroom. I entered where the front service desk and politely stated I needed to use the restroom. As I was leaving some gangster looking service manager confronted me and said next time you ask before using our restroom. What a Jerk! I've been a customer in the past but will go the extra mile before stepping foot into another Firestone location. On top of that while outside they kept coming out leering at me like I just robbed place. My call to customer service resulted in nothing not even a call back. I have been bringing ALL of my cars to Firestone for years and have never had a bad experience. I have had them do oil changes, alignments, rotations, brake jobs...pretty much every service they offer. When I make an appointment, I always ask for Peter, he is the best! He's professional and always makes sure to apply any discounts, coupons or promos they are offering. I used to take my cars to Hilltop, but when I found out that Peter M. Transferred to El Cerrito, I followed him. . My husband is a bit auto savvy and has never had a complaint of the scope of work recommended by Peter, so that's a plus! This location has had some turn over in mechanics and were short staffed a couple times when I needed something, so I had to wait or reschedule, but that's life...... I'm surprised at the low rating for this location, while some complaints may be warranted, I think overall people don't like spending money to maintain or fix their cars, so any trip to an auto shop will have a person in a sour mood at the start! My recommendation is to ask for Peter, he's the best they have! read more

My Audi A6 tripped a tire pressure alarm during the morning I80 commute traffic Thursday 4th of July weekend. I knew I'd miss my morning meetings but really needed to be out of the tire place by 11am. I have seriously rare sport tires and they were able to locate one for me nearby. When the two hours were up I called to see if my car was ready they told me no due to the fact that they were running behind on other cars, so I was quoted another hour. Then I get a call 49 minutes prior to closing telling me that my car wasn't going to be ready in time so I had to leave from Oakland to get to them before they close to pick up my car. My experience in Nov. 2021 was dreadful. I made an on-line appointment for simple oil change and tire-rotation. When I arrived, I was told it would be at least a 2.5 hours wait! The manager, Gerald, was genial but unconcerned. After 2.5 hours the car was not yet moved. Job finally finished after about half hour work. Employees there blame Gerald for adding extra jobs and ignoring the appointments that already fill the work load. I have been a customer there for years...but no more. This place is absolutely horrible. I showed up one day to get a quick tire patch (nail in my front tire). They told me it would be an hour and a half wait, which is totally understandable. I didn't have time to wait, so I made an appointment for the next day at 2pm. When I showed up at 2pm for my scheduled appointment, they told me it would be 2 hours before they could fix my tire. I tried scheduling again, for 8:30am two days later, when a service provider told me they would be fully staffed, so they had time to fix my tire. When I asked the man I scheduled with on the phone if he could give me an estimate of how long it would take to repair the tire - and could he guarantee that since I scheduled an appointment that I would be seen at 8:30 (I explained I have to get to work). He told me it would take an hour to an hour and a half to fix my tire! Give me a freaking break!!!! It takes maybe 20 minutes, especially with an appointment. This place is terrible. Without consulting me, he made the mistake of falling for the sham which is this terrible business. Not only did it take way longer then they originally quoted him but they tried to over charge him for made up things. He also ended up getting yelled in the lobby in front of other customers at by the extremely unprofessional and rude staff. I don't know who runs this circus but they are doing a disservice to the community providing not only poor mechanical skills work and knowledge but just downright disgusting attitude. Hit or miss. Sometimes the staff here can be friendly and normal, othertimes weirdly cold and slow. I called for an appointment last year and they told me that I would be better off bringing it in the morning at some point later in the week because the next "appointment" wasn't for another 3 weeks. Don't ask me how that works. That said, I've had tires shipped there from Tirerack and it's worked out great. So yeah, hit or miss. When chatting with one of the managers once, he complained about how hard it is to find people to work there. So it sounds like they have staffing issues (don't we all?) so I'm sure that contributes. I don't understand the low rating on Yelp for this store. I found them to be exceptionally good, highly communicative at every step, affordable (met all on-line cost estimates, efficient, and considerable of my time. Steven and Gary called me to confirm their findings and cost before starting each major repair. There were no surprises! I knew I needed 4 new tires, alignment adjustments, new rear brakes and rotors, new spark plugs, an oil change and new oil and air filter, and the fuel injectors cleaned. Other than regular oil changes and replacing the factory tires, these are the only repairs I've ever needed after putting 82k miles on my Hyundai. If I could give half of a star I would. Went to this location on multiple occassions going in for a wheel balance. The first 2 times going in, they did a wheel balance and alignment check and sent me off after doing the checks (and paid) only to come back in a week's time for the same thing. Third time, they found that 2 tires (that I bought from them previously) were unrounded and put in new ones. They said they took it for a test drive and said it was all good to go. Lo and behold, another week a new issue comes up on the freeway and I'm stuck at a gas station waiting for a tow truck to pick my car up. I showed up at 8:58am this morning (Sunday, when they open at 9:00am) for a battery. The man who came in right behind me had an appointment for 9:00am. I was finally registered about an hour later, and the gentleman behind me was told (after waiting an hour) that it would be better for him to reschedule his appointment so they didn't "rush" on his truck and make a mistake. I was told my battery would be installed in about an hour. It's almost 1:00pm--four hours after my arrival--and I'm still waiting. The incompetence is strong with this place. I schedule an appointment for a brake service. The work was well done so I am very happy about that. And the people are very friendly and courteous. Time management is a whole different story, slow like winter molasses. Just make an appointment for the early am and drop the car off the whole day and you should be ok. I don't know why all the low reviews. The wait here is pretty long but if they are giving you good service I don't care. I would rather wait a bit longer and get a more complete service than to get in and out in 30 minutes and have to come back the next day. Francis D is the store manager and very friendly. They didn't try to push anything on me like other shops and dealerships and this is my second time using a Firestone around the area (Berkeley one closed down). So this is likely going to be my go to place for stuff. I had them patch a tire and rotate my tires (which they do some basic inspects as well.) In total it took about 1.5 hours (because there were 3 people ahead of me) and it was much faster than they had told me it would take which was a relief I guess. The price can't be beat $30 for the whole thing because they had a $10 tire rotation deal. read more

A couple of weeks ago, we were about to leave on a 600-mile drive to spend a much-needed vacation camping in the Redwoods. I loaded the SUV the night before, but early in the morning noticed the left rear tire was low. Did I mention this was a Sunday morning. After checking yelp, I noticed that Firestone would open at 9 am. I'd never been there but it's not far from my home so I gave it a shot. I arrived at 8:55 and spoke to a really sweet man - I'm embarrassed to say I can't recall his name! Anyway, he said they were all booked with appointments, but if I came back at 9:30 he could "slip me in." These guys have a Road Force balance machine which applies force to wheel to replicate actual driving. A MUST when balancing newly mounted tires. Came here twice - once to mount 4 new tires + alignment, once to rebalance another shops bad job. Both times had excellent service which was promptly and professionally done. They may not be the cheapest in town, but they have all the latest equipment to get the job done right the first time. Will definitely be coming back for my future tire needs. A++++ read more

I've been taking my cars to Firestone for over 20 years. Always a good job and a better alternative than having to go to the dealer. Just got 4 new tires, alignment, and balancing while visiting in the Bay Area. On the way home on the freeway, I noticed a little wheel shimmy doing 80. I know they'll fix it when I take it in, but it's an extra trip and shouldn't be necessary. Overall always pleased with the people and the service. read more

I am so done with this place. They are so disorganized and communicate poorly. I've given them extra chances. Sometimes service is ok, often disappointing. Every time i think it's getting better, they do a big fail. Just depends. The worst was a few years ago when i had them install new tires on new rims that were ordered elsewhere and delivered to their store. The rims were sitting in boxes in their lobby right behind the guy taking the order. Put the new tires on the new rims. Easy. They called when the work was done. I go there and the new rims are still in the boxes. They put the new tires on the old rims. ooops. Cost me another day and another trip to the store.. This week i had to go there 3 times before somebody who could work on suspension showed up and was available. Nobody advised about that. I got there at 7:30am, the work wasn't finished until after 5pm, too late to get there and pick up before closing. And then they tell me, oh by the way your battery is bad and we can't replace it. They never bothered calling me to let me know. Done Done Done Done Done. One star just because I've been going to other Firestone stores for years. But I'm done with this company. read more

I should have paid more attention to the reviews. I made an appointment for 10:30 this morning to have a tire repaired or replaced. At noon my car had not been moved from the parking lot to the service bays. In addition, Firestone claims a lifetime warranty, but beware, their warranty is subject to pro ration. So unless your tires fail almost immediately, the warranty is useless. Having said all this, the beleaguered clerk in the front office was very nice. I hope he doesn't work on commission.
