I have been going to Firestone for a while now and always got good Customer Service. Today i went in and the service just wasn't the same. It wasn't horrible but it just felt different. I wanted to get a tire checked but they said they couldn't fix it. Left there and went to another tire shop they looked at it fixed it and in fifteen Minutes I was on my way. I hope I'm not over reacting but guys you have to do better. I'm big on customer service when you're in business it's the only thing you truly have control of. read more

I gotta say, until now, I thought the myth of the cagey mechanic was a myth. First they tried to deny the lifetime alignment from Firestone, and I overheard Don say "we can't honor it without proof." As in, sorry but your website is defective. They found it eventually, of course, but what a waste of time. Speaking of which, by the end of the day, they hadn't done either the alignment or the tire rotation. I got a call an hour before closing and Gerald (who is very polite btw, the proverbial foil) was sorry because they couldn't find windshield wipers ("we looked everywhere") Really? Cause they're right across the street at O'Reillys... That was before dropping the bomb. They didn't do the alignment either. Apparently I need better coils, struts and new tie rods and bushings and other suspension parts before they can attend to that. OK, so why not advise me of this at some point in the am? Hey, maybe you could even get the parts and do the work? Naah. Instead Gerald is so sorry to tell me about the windshield wipers, which I can switch out myself in 30 seconds and buy, well, just about anywhere. So I get there, at closing (6pm). The first thing i notice is that the wheels havn't been rotated. At the desk, Gerald hasn't prepared an estimate for me yet either for all the work that is supposedly needed, as he said he would. But he is under the impression they had rotated the wheels, and it's on the bill (no charge for this btw, but if you say something has been done, and it hasn't, that's a problem). Then he tells me Don probably decided not to rotate the wheels because they weren't safe, and he will make sure to include the price of new tires in the estimate. To Whom it mast concern: We will never return to the Firestone of El Cerrito. When purchasing four new tires We Asked to keep the best tire for the spare when checking the vehicle in. The service advisor inspected all 5 tires before we left this morning and when we came back to pick up the vehicle I asked why the original same spare tire was on and the advisor replied that it was the best one. The tire on there was 20 years old with no tread. It also had massive cracks in it. When I asked to please put the one of the other original tires on he replied that they were too busy and I said then let me get it and I'll have someone else put it on. When he got the tire he then replied that he couldny put it on. I replied we won't be coming back because that was never communicated to us in the beginning. He told me he's tired of me throwing my opinion around at him. Been coming there for 10 plus years with never an issue. I've spent over 50,000 in repairs to all 4 vehicles in this time frame. I will definitely tell all my friends in the El Cerrito community about this issue. I will also post this on yelp and be contacting Corporate. I run a home improvement company with employees and every business owner knows that the customer is entitled to opinion. I wish I could give them zero stars. We had an appointment at 11 and it wasn't finished until 3:30 to just patch a tire. We told them when we dropped it off that we need the car by 2:30 because we had to be somewhere by 3. They reassured us it would be done before then. At 1:30 we called just to check in and they said it should be done in a hour so I sent my husband over at 2:30 and it still wasn't complete. 4.5 hours later and were late for my nieces graduation. I'm really disappointed with the lack of time management and communication. read more

Update 2/11/20: I just discovered that they forgot to screw my rear headlight covering back into the vehicle, so it's just dangling and almost fell off. Photo attached. What a safety hazard and completely unprofessional. This is a tipping point and I'll be filing a formal complaint. ---------- I took my car in here three times, each time thinking it will be a better experience. Unfortunately, I'm now here at Firestone waiting to pick up my car to leave, and completely frustrated. My car has been ready since yesterday and is currently sitting in their parking lot. I've been waiting the last 30 mins (and counting) just to pay and leave! This is so ridiculous. Michael at the counter is the only person working and he takes at least 10 mins to check out each customer. The icing on the cake is that they just drove my car from the lot into the garage as they are closing. I know have to wait for them to open the garage and drive my vehicle out? Got a flat on a Sunday and this place was one of the only ones open. I called in before I came and spoke to Juan who confirmed they had my tire size. I drove over on a flat and they had me in and out of there under an hour. Overall happy with service on a Sunday. I do see that they can be sort of slow on the service side as they have to go by the book and double check everything . I started commuting much farther for work, so I need to baby my beloved vehicle. Service light was on, and I knew it was time for that good old oil change. When is it ever a good day to get an oil change, right? Seems like no matter where you go in the Bay Area, it's going to be busy. I called this Firestone in the morning to see if they had any availability. Willian, (like William but with an N), answered the phone very professionally and told me he could fit me in at 4:30 pm. That was a relief! Location: Conveniently located across Marshall's on San Pablo Avenue and near many restaurants and retail. 20-25 minute walk to El Cerrito BART. I even swung by the post office beforehand. Quick jaunt. Parking: Their lot is small, so I had to double park. Seemed like everyone else was doing it, too. Be careful in the lot b/c it's tight. Prices: Their rates for oil are pretty competitive. They had a sale on synthetic blend (like $25) but I opted for the full synthetic, again because I have to baby my car and fill her with only theeee best (~$70). Since it's supposed to be El Niño-ing this winter, I decided to change my windshield wipers. They have a basic wiper for ~$10/blade or a higher end, full rubber type for $17.99/blade. I went with the higher price point because I'm sick of streaky glass in my face. Service: The cashier Willian was helpful, friendly, and stylish. Check out his plastic framed glasses! I didn't interact with the guys in the shop, but my car felt like it was driving better after I left; kinda like my car was wearing new sneaks. I was concerned about the wear on my tires, but Willian said they looked like they still have 50% of life in them left. Which was a relief b/c who wants to buy new tires? I told him I'd like to get ecopias next time for my hybrid, and he said they could definitely get those for me. :) I tested the wiper blades and they quietly and smoothly cleaned my windshield. I came in at 4:30, Willian said I'd be out by 6 pm, and I was! Waiting area: Clean, bright, ample seating, plugs for your electronics; VERY clean bathrooms; new TV; dunno if they had wifi. Magazines. Coffee: Didn't try it but it was there. The only drawback today was that they did not have an alignment technician in. Willian said had my alignment done in January so I could wait another month. I have used Firestone for about 5 years now. I got the lifetime rotation and alignment deelio... It's been a lifesaver for the last 5 years, and this Firestone may be the cleanest and friendliest one in the East Bay! And, for that, I give it star, star, star, star = 4 Yelp Stars! read more

9 months ago I dropped my vehicle there for a steering wheel service. They replaced the rack and pinion. Got it back and it steered well. But I came back cause the steering wheel was not centered. A tad bit turned to the right. Person who worked on it thought otherwise. I let it go. Three months later the entire steering is as squeaky as a rusted door hinge. I had a tire blow out on the freeway last night. I made an appointment with Firestone online which they cancelled by email...not even a phone call. When I found the email and tried to call back, a man answered and said he was alone in the shop and could not talk to me...to call back later. I remembered having gone to Richmond Tire (San Pablo) in the past and had always been well treated there. It was farther from home, but I called and was warmly greeted by Kalani who told me to come right in. I did. My tire had some significant damage, so I was sold a single tire at a reasonable price and had the air topped off in all my tires..all within about a half an hour. Today, I got *exceptional* service from the new manager, Alex, who was communicative, responsive, and courteous. I almost didn't want to leave this review, as I'm afraid too many people are going to come to Firestone from now on. But I also believe in rewarding good service, as I'm sure with the changes that Alex are going to make in the culture of the store, they are going to develop a really good reputation and get busier regardless. I had a tire repaired there 2-3 years ago. It was done on a Sunday (hardly anyone else is open) & done quickly. The woman was helpful. Today I found a screw in my tire. I was uncertain if there was a leak or hole but didn't want to pull the screw out & have a flat tire at home. Again it was a Sunday so (almost) no one is open. I wanted to come in at 10 (when I phoned) but he said he is booked up. I made an appointment for 1. I showed up at 1. He was a little abrupt when I arrived but later explained that he was busy. I told him that on arrival I looked at my tire & the screw had fallen out on the road on the way there. That would have been enough for some people. Especially if they are busy. Not him (Don). He ran & got a soapy-foamy spray & sprayed the tire to be sure there is no leak. Then he let me go. No charge. I see some less than stellar reviews. I made an online purchase of two tires for installation on my front wheels. When I showed up for the appointment, they didn't have the tires. Made an appointment for the next morning. 3 1/2 hours later, it's ready. Tires installed on the rear wheels!? First I'm told that I requested this because the auto generated form online includes rotation etc.. I state that I clearly requested FRONT wheel install of new tires. I am then told that it's "company policy" to always install a 2 tire purchase on back wheels only. I clearly state that this is the opposite of what I requested. You go this place if you have lots of money and you don't care to spend, I went there to check my flat tire, i saw a nail and showed one of the staff, he just looked at it and said, you need to replace the new tire, i had bought that tire a month ago, and now he is saying need new tire, come on man it just a nail just remove and fix the flat, he said it will take 2/3 hours in a rude way, first of all they don't know how to talk with customer, customer service 0 , 2nd they don't respect the business and customer. I understand that COVID is having an impact on deliveries (trust I have had my own issues with UPS), but that doesn't change my expectations around communication from a business. This was my first experience with this location (and to be honest probably my last). Unlike their counterpart in Richmond, this site does a better job of answering phone calls in a timely manner (hence how I got an appointment in the first place). I went in hoping to repair a tire but the universe had other plans for me; I was told it was beyond repair. I ordered the tire I needed on Sunday and was told it would arrive Tuesday at the latest. Monday, nothing. Tuesday came, I called and was told it was on it's way, but it didn't arrive. Wednesday came, I called and they said, "it had been ordered," so they said, "but we should have mentioned COVID was complicating our deliveries," (no duh). They ordered a new tire and said if the original order doesn't arrive then this new order should be in by Friday. Thursday comes and went. Friday came, I call, they over apologize for the wait. By the time I called it had still not arrived, I was placed on hold and they confirmed that it was on a truck on its way and that I'd get a call when it did. About $200 and almost a week later, I have a fully functioning vehicle. All of this is to say I wish updating their customers with the status of their orders was a practice of theirs rather than me having to wait! read more

Manager Don Singh has NO business being a manager anywhere! NOT friendly, NOT helpful, NOT willing to go the extra mile for his customers! We had a horrible experience here, & the manager Don made it even worse! Kept car overnight & didn't have it ready the next day...Wasted time! Didn't have the correct tool to take of my wheels... How is that possible at a Firestone??? Supposedly did FULL inspection of car...Got blowout from worn tire they didn't see somehow??? Happened next day, 1 hour into our road trip!!! Came in last Saturday to get my car inspected. I know nothing about cars but everyone there was sooo nice and accommodating especially the older Black man that helped me at the counter. There is a woman who has strawberry blonde hair and she is so badass. She is so knowledgable about cars and was able to really break down what was going on with my car and show me a picture. My front right tire was wrecked and had my car towed here. Even though I hadn't been here singe 2019, they had my tire info, had the tire in stock, and were able to fix it even when I didn't have the key to the tire lock. They replaced the tire that day and I was able to drive it home. Cheaper than Costco, great service, and Don is a super friendly, helpful manager. read more

I have taken my car here several times now. One good thing about what they do is they are flexible as far as taking appointments. However, every time I have been there I have gotten a bad feeling. Hard to explain but I always sort of feel like I'm getting ripped off. So far all the mechanic work seems solid but if I knew of a shop within walking distance of my place that was able to do comprehensive work and that I had a better gut feeling that they are trustworthy I would take my care there in a second. read more

I went to firestone to get a battery replaced on my 2015 Volvo and will definitely be back to have my car serviced here again. I made an appointment and was in and out in a timely manner. What was most impressive to me was the excellent customer service I received by both Elaine and Don. Don took time out of his day to track down a battery for me that was out of stock, and Elaine was so genuine and helpful and really broke everything down for me so I could understand exactly what I was paying for and why. Elaine also give me her business card and encouraged me to call her at any time to answer any question I might have, because "there's no such thing as too many questions". We discovered to our dismay on the morning of April 7th that the rear left tire on our beloved '86 Toyota Camry had gone nearly flat during the night. Upon calling Firestone, the manager Greg said to come down ASAP and it will be taken care of. Thankfully, we were barely two blocks away, so driving on the nearly flat tire over such a short distance didn't present a major problem. After getting our car into the garage and up in the air, a young mechanic named Louis went work. Greg said it would take about 20 minutes, so I walked to the nearby cleaners to pick up a suit jacket. On my return, Louis was already pulling our Camry out to be parked for pickup. To my astonishment, Greg said that there would be no charge, as the removal of a nail and a tire patch was all that was needed. I couldn't let such a wonderful gesture go unrecognized, so I drove up to Donut Time in El Cerrito and bought a dozen and a few extras. It was a pleasure to see the looks on their faces as I strode up with a big pink box of sweet carbs, and it was the least I could do to express my gratitude for them saving our weekend! Had tires replaced and oil/filter change. Had the price quoted online, and also made appointment online. In and out in about an hour, no surprises. Comfortable and clean waiting area with free Wi-Fi, time went fast while reading things online. While waiting, though, I heard their exchanges with other customers as well as had some service recommendations made on my car. One of the reasons for their low ratings may be due to their need to sell combined with customer ignorance. For example, one customer insisted he purchased "life time alignment guarantee" but that was on a different vehicle the customer owned in the past. They had to explain that the "lifetime" means as long as he owns that car, that guarantee goes with the vehicle, not the customer. Apparently this was not clearly explained to the customer when he opted for this "lifetime" guarantee. I don't think he even knows what "alignment" consists of. This type of experience may result in a comment like "they sold me a useless guarantee." The service advisor told me that my front brakes are low and should be replaced. I passed on it, and after coming home, I read their "inspection" report which said "30% remaining on front brake pads." I have over 60,000 miles on the vehicle now, so this 30% should last me another 30,000 miles if I continue to drive the same way, and this car will be long gone by then. Recommending replacement at 30% remaining is a gray area. If I do nothing but stop and go driving in hilly areas, then it may be almost time to change it. But if a mechanic who is familiar with my driving style and repair history heard that I was recommended replacement at 30%, he would probably conclude that it was an oversell. Again, this is the kind of stuff that results in a comment like "they tried to sell me something I don't need." I've been in auto service industry for 20 year (now happily retired), so I am sympathetic with their situation as well as customer's experiences. I my case, I knew what I wanted, got prices online, and they performed what I needed exactly at that price in timely manner. I wouldn't hesitate to go there again for my tire and basic service needs. If you know nothing about automobiles and have to depend on the advice of an "honest" mechanic, then you'd be better off forming a long-term relationship with a local mechanic with high customer ratings, and trust him. read more

I called today, cause I needed a new tire for my spare and I just asked the lady if I brought in the flat tire today if they could get me a tire today, the lady's answer ""absolutely not" in a very unprofessional unfriendly tone, and then she went on to tell me a bunch of stuff about her and how busy the business is and other stuff that frankly just doesn't concern me. Extremely poor customer service, I'm sure firestone doesn't pay their employees enough, and so maybe it's hard to get employees with good customer service skills, but if she would have just said no, or I'm sorry we don't have time today. I came to get a nail looked at in my tire. The moment I walked in, I approached the counter where the employee of (Amanda or Angelica) ignored me for 5 minutes. As I continued to wait after the 5 minute period at the desk, she disregarded me and told another mechanic, "after I do this I'm going to lunch! I need a break". Then, she gave me a dirty look. She never greeted me at all; very unprofessional. After waiting for an extended period, I was finally serviced. The mechanic told me my tire would be looked at and fixed within a matter of minutes. Okay, I took his word for it. I waited TWO HOURS to get diagnosed for a nail in my tire and for the shop to tell me I needed a simple patch. An easy and small time frame fix. Not only was I never approached by (Amanda or Angelica) about the condition of my car, she was blatantly rude and disrespectful towards me throughout my whole experience. She greeted many customers before she had a conversation with me. After waiting two hours in an office with one other customer, she explained that the shop was extremely busy and she was the only one working. I sat through the shop and saw many employees working. I was the only person in the shop when I originally entered and she completely ignored me as a customer. Also, she was cursing and being very unprofessional throughout my extended two hour experience with a tire change. I am not sure why she has a job, but she pushed me away and disregard me on many occasions. I will follow up with management. From Mike's accounts, the owner was away on vacation. Worst Firestone in the Bay Area. The head Manager doesn't know anything about what is going on, has the worst customer service. He called me and said that my car was done, when I got there nothing was done. (Alignment/,rotation), my wheel lock was not put back so I had to come back to get it. After 3 days, I went back to get it, he didn't know where his mechanic put it, so I heard him say, I don't have time for to be looking for a wheel lock right now. (Oh you think, I'm not busy and I had to come back to get my lock) while i was there, A guy walked in and said he just needed wheel lock for his car. This Manager told told him, the earliest he can do that won't be for about 3-4 days because they are too busy :) They don't look too busy to me over there. A wheel lock will only take less than 5 minutes to install. They need to get this guy out of there to be profitable. read more

Went to this Firestone for a flat tire. They had no one in the shop for a good 10 minutes and when the person came back they did not acknowledge the line at all and left again. It took another 5 minutes for service. Got the flat tire fixed and was assured that the patch would be fine throughout the remaining life of the tire. Couple months later it went flat again... When I finally spoke to a person, they said it would be ~2.5 hours. I'm still here and it has been over 4 hours. Several people have come and gone since I've been here.
