When you first get there, the line will always be long. We almost left when a gentleman in front of us says it's quick and worth it. This place works fast and the line moves quick. The staff has a really good system getting people in and out. It's a sports restaurant, so there are several screens playing sports making it very loud. The food did not disappoint. The tri tip sandwich was good and the basket of fries was a large. Burger was juicy and appreciated the fresh tomato, lettuce and onion. My spicy chicken sandwich was not spicy but still good. First time at a game bar! It was really nice at night. You have to fight for a table. The line goes out the door and wraps around the building, but the food comes fast. I think this place is more of a 4.5 star kind of place. The tri-tip sandwich was delicious. There wasn't much options in the kids menu. I didn't realize you can get half fries, half chicken strips till they mentioned it. It was perfect because the small serving of fries would have been too much. A staple of SLO so the line is not short, but it moves very quick! Everything on the menu is good, but they are especially known for the tri tip sandwich and fries. For thise veggie lovers out there, hands down veggie avocado is my favorite @ firestones. I'd normally get the tri-tip sandwich, but when you're on a diet or detox week, sometimes you're just craving a vegetarian option and this is the best and convenient choice from the restaurant. I ordered take out from the online portal and it took 10 minutes for the restaurant to prepare: service was quick and easy. I decided to check this place out during Veterans Day weekend for late-night dinner during my road trip. It seemed like a popular place, so I decided to go here for a quick meal. There was no wait when I went here on a Saturday around 8:20pm and they have both indoor and outdoor seating which are both well lit. We ordered the Monster Burger and the Firebird Sandwich. Both the burgers we got are HUGE! The Monster Burger was super juicy with fresh veggies in it. The Firebird is basically a crispy chicken sandwich with a small kick of spice to it. These burgers really are mouthwatering and might be my new favorite burger place! Ok, now enough about the taste of the burgers, something I wasn't a huge fan of was their lack of variety for sandwiches. I wish they would have turkey sandwiches here, but sadly they don't so I had to get a different sandwich. The sandwich I got was still good though! I'd recommend this place! We drove up to Monterey on Saturday and decided to stop for lunch in San Luis Obispo. We wanted someplace easy but not totally random, and were happy to find Firestone Grill, a casual barbecue joint with thousands of reviews. We were a little worried when we pulled up and saw the line, then had to drive another couple blocks to find parking. Thankfully, the line moved lightning fast. Firestone is a well-staffed operation, with lots of people on the registers and in the kitchen, where you can watch them carve up meat and assemble sandwiches (good entertainment if you have a restless two-year-old, though it didn't quite compete with the multiple ceiling fans). Service was pleasant and remarkably fast. Our number came up before my husband had time to grab his beer at the bar, a short but separate errand. I wasn't partaking this time, but I always appreciate a kid-friendly joint with draft beer and cocktails. Firestone Grill is huge, with enough seating that none of the hundreds of people who shared our lunch hour seemed to have trouble finding a table. The interior had a sports bar vibe, while the covered patio was more functional, gigantic and packed with the kind of heavy, easy-to-wipe-down tables and benches you might find at a public park. We claimed one for our party of six, including two grandparents and two small children. Lunch was reasonably relaxing, all things considered. We didn't even have to bus our own table--a staff member came and took over as soon as he saw us start to clean up. The food was great. Firestone is known for its tri-tip so that's what I got, a tri-tip sandwich with a side of pickled jalapeños. This was simple and delicious, just sliced tri-tip and BBQ sauce on a French roll. The beef was tender and savory, the roll soft and crusty. I could've used more BBQ sauce and thought it was strange that there was none available (there were squeeze bottles of ketchup on every table, but no extra BBQ sauce to be found), but the sandwich didn't lack in flavor, especially with those jalapeños. We got a basket of fries for the table, and it was enormous and also quite tasty. My kids enjoyed their chicken strips and grilled cheese. I tried both and can see why they liked them. Firestone Grill appears to be popular with students, tourists, and pretty much everyone else living in or passing through San Luis Obispo. I'm glad we didn't let the long line deter us. This was a very satisfying lunch, and I'd love to go back next time I'm in town. read more

But I guess Firestone Grill is already famous on its own, so if you go to school in SLO or you are making that drive on 101, this is the place to stop and take a food break! Good for groups, good for you and good for me. This is one of those IYKYK places and you should get to know it. They pump out food quick and the portions are beyond generous for the prices. This is the best place to get your first experience on what Santa Maria Tritip consist of! My go to is always the tritip sandwich. They toast the buns with butter and stack the inside with so much juicy tritip and slather on their house bbq sauce - chefs kiss. Simple and yet so much flavor! They cut it in half for you to make it easier to eat. Ask for another side of bbq sauce if you're into it! You can also never go wrong with a burger or even one of their salads - they top them with so much meat of your choice. You can literally get full from eating a salad. Ingredients are fresh and made to order! There is also a full bar available, so it is super popular to catch the games on weekends. They have a designated ice machine and a water tap - you know they thought this through! Pro tip: Download the app and you can place your order while you park your car. By the time you walk up to the counter, your food will be ready! Trust me, way better than waiting in line. Their food has been the same after all these years and I always make a conscious effort to make a stop here! The sandwich is still good even if you have it for leftovers. When I lived in Fresno, I used to go to Dog House Grill. This is its SLO counterpart. Came on a Monday for lunch. The restaurant is big with lots of areas to sit both inside & outside. The outside area is covered. The hustle & bustle of lots of people, the street traffic, & order numbers being called out over a speaker makes for a noisy environment. We ordered at the counter where customer service was ok. Got our utensils & napkins at a station. They have a dedicated machine that dispenses ice & water that I appreciated. We self-selected a table outside, which had a ketchup bottle ready on top. The food lowdown-- Tri Tip Sandwich--Simple bread & meat with a little sauce. The meat is cut in thicker slices & layered, so it ate a little tough & dry in some bites. The bread is substantial. 7 Pork Ribs Meal (able to substitute the beans for a small salad)--Ribs were meaty, saucy, fatty in parts, & had some chew as they aren't fall off the bone tender. Salad with dressing was basic. It came with a lot of toasty, buttery garlic bread. Kids Hamburger with added cheddar cheese--a solid, sizable burger with toasted bun & ample cheesiness. It is located in a great area. With lots of shops so you can look around after or before you eat. It is near a Lululemon and Banana Republic and a dessert shop with afternoon tea. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. The place is clean and the women's restroom has I think five stalls and was kept clean. They don't use paper towels just the warm air blower. this was our first time here and there were three of us. We got the tri-tip sandwich and the pork ribs which come with toast and a side. We also got a side salad for about $6.50. The tri-tip sandwich was loaded with lean meat and some barbecue sauce no vegetables in it if you like meat, this would be your sandwich but because it is so lean, it is a tiny bit on the dry side if you don't put more barbecue sauce. But it was tender and easy to chew. We split the sandwich three ways. The one we all liked was the pork ribs. We had about six or seven ribs and it was very tender. It comes with toasted bun but very plain so we actually did not eat it. The ribs come with a choice of side and we got french fries the fries was enough to feed three of us with leftover. It was about three large McDonald's fries. This was just the regular amount of fries if you ordered a side of french fries it comes in a huge bowl that maybe would be about five large McDonald's fries. The fries are the skinny type. For me it was too heavily salted, and a little on the dryer side than I would've liked. I feel some people would love these fries and others may not. I sure would've liked to try their onion rings.. they also have plastic utensils on the side and self serve water, and some condiments.. I wonder if I asked them for butter or jelly for the bread if they have that. I did not ask so I will never know the answer. All in, although I would go back to this place it was well worth it. Large large portions and next time I will try onion rings and get a full slab of pork ribs.. Basket of fries: 3.5/5 they give you a ton of fries. it's a bit too soft and i wish the fries were a little bit crispier on the outside. it was seasoned well, but to the point of being too seasoned/too salty Tritip sandwich 4/5 this was a solid sandwich, good amount of meat. basically just meat and two buns and barbecue sauce. the meat itself can get a bit dry after a while so i got an extra side of bbq sauce to dip in.
