We had dinner at First & Last last night. The staff are all an A+! My husbands dinner was one of their "most loved" chicken dinners - I wish I could remember the name of it! I ordered the carbonara and was a bit disappointed. This is it a carbonara dish, but an Alfredo. Still tasted ok - just a bit disappointed that it wasn't as described. Terrible Service-During lunch over an hour wait for pizza and a panini without it being busy, waitress never said more than two words throughout the whole lunch and we kept having to flag her down for assistance. Terrible Food-Bland pizza no taste at all, the panini was soaked with oiled hard bread and completely dry on the inside barely any buffalo sauce, asked for no lettuce and still was bought the side salad....hmmmm! Stopped in for a quick lunch on Sunday. We started off with some of their oven baked wings, delicious. The sauce buffalo sauce was nice and buttery. Then for our main course I went with the Lemon Chicken and Brocolli over pasta. It was delectable. My boyfriend had the cheddar burger with the Parmesan fries and was equally impressed. I would start with saying it's the best Italian in area of Plainville, Bristol, New Britain. That's not a high bar but it's solid place if you want Italian food. It also depends on nights you go. I usually sit at the bar and I find Mondays, Weds, and Thursdays are friendliest and most attentive. I've gone on a Tuesday and Sunday where the bartender has been dreadful. As for food pizza is very good here. Can't go wrong with chicken parm or shells/meatballs. The manager who I've spoken with a few times seems a little lost when you ask questions. All in all it's a good restaurant for some Italian. Not a high end place, little pricey for Plainville. Nice outdoor seating however last summer I realized they didn't spray for mosquitos and you are eaten alive. That's something I hope the owner does for the upcoming season. First and last is consistently a great choice for all things food. We came here because we were gifted a gift card at Christmas and decided to be smart. We ordered a pizza and it was so good. We also ordered the calamari and that was not great. This is why I deducted a start. The calamari was burnt so badly. Good food & great staff is the reason why friends and I have been there. The restaurant invested a lot of money in building up the outside patio with some nice fireplaces and couches, yet nobody sits out there and their investment sits empty all the time, why?? The patio is surrounded by trees & underbrush and is a haven for mosquitoes and bugs who are hungry for human blood around dinner time. We don't get many months in CT when we can sit outside, people want to spend their money sitting outside when it's nice out. The bugs & mosquitoes are unbearable and is the reason why people don't sit out there. It's unfortunate that the owners/management won't spend $75-$100/mo to hire a service to come in once a month and spray those bushes, killing the mosquitoes that are killing their business. read more

we came tonight between 430/5, we got seated at a booth in the bar by the event room it was myself and my husband. there was another couple with a baby girl in a carrier. They sat there for about 25/30 minutes an NO ONE came over. it was not busy, there was only one other couple in the bar area and 2 ladies which I think was sitting with the blonde manager it seemed like after they got up and walked out for no service. the manager and waitress said they never "saw them come in". I believer the staff needs some improvement , if they actually looked over ( which they were) but did nothing...when the owner is there it seems like everything is fine, but when he's not, it doesn't seem like any urgency is there. read more

First time here. Was in the area for a sporting event and decided to use yelp to find some dinner. So pleased to have picked this place. The atmosphere was pleasant. Then hostess was very nice. They bring out their different types of breads as a small free appetizer. I thought the bread was delicious and so did my mother. We ordered the Turkey BLT panini and the buffalo chicken panini. Substituted the salad with some fries. The food was so good. I definitely recommend this place for a quick delicious bite to eat. It also wasn't very Expensive. It was on the normal priced side. The only reason I am giving 2 starts is because the food wasn't bad. One, the happy hour menu online is incorrect, the actual prices are more than what it says online, this should be fixed. I have eaten here several times over the past year - both with friends and also for two company outings and each time I have experienced not only wonderful service but also (and more importantly) consistently great food. Recently our company booked a private room for our annual holiday party and from the moment I arrived until we were "kicked" out (to make way for the next batch of revelers) the entire staff made sure that our drinks and plates were continually filled. Not a very expansive tap list but they have a full bar to help wet anyone's whistle. We started with some hot appetizers - calamari, wings, and chicken wings served buffet style. All were thoroughly enjoyed and no one felt that they did not get enough of any one item. I was staying away from fried food and the waitress was nice enough to bring me a special order of grilled calamari so that I would not be left out. She did not have to do that and it was nice that she noticed. Served in a spicy tomato broth - it was a nice was to quench my hunger. Soon after we were served the main meal - salad, hanger steak, chicken marsala, and two types of pasta. I made a bee line for the hanger steak and was not disappointed - served medium rare and marinated. I went back for seconds and even scored a doggy bag to take home. The salad was a bit over dressed and probably would have been better served family style but my co workers and myself did not seem to mind. All the food was hot and not over cooked and a second batch of steak was brought out after the first tray was demolished. All in all a great time was had by all and I would recommend First and Last Tavern for those looking for a room to hold a private function or a nice place to come to eat. read more

I really loved my experience here. I was worried that the ratings on here would be true but not even close (in my opinion of course). Our server was very attentive and kind. No complaints as far as service. But, it was a very "off" time: about 5:00 on a Sunday. So, I can't attest to service during a busier time. But there was plenty of waitstaff so I'd be surprised if they did poorly. Again, I wouldn't know but plan to be back and I can update my review if necessary! The food was excellent. I had the pear salad with chicken and all the ingredients were super fresh. Sometimes ordering a salad is tricky because the lettuce can be wilted or the ingredients are just plain gross. Not at all here. I was very pleased. The salad paired greatly with an angry orchards cider and I enjoyed my meal a lot! My fiancé had the chicken parm sandwich and finished it all very quickly. I was there today to eat lunch with my wife and my little puppy as usual. We were always welcome to seat outside with our puppy in the past. However, one of their female manager reject us because of our puppy. Her reason was not the policy change not except a dog but was for health violation that they don'twant to get into. She didn't even explain what kind of health violation she was referring to. We would be just fine if she said the restaurant policy just changed not to except a pet anymore instead of that nonsense she just pulled out from her mouth. Had lunch with hubby on our way to Lowe's. We normally eat at the Avon location, but I liked this location for different reasons. The room was large and open, but the booths are high enough to provide privacy. I loved the bread display by the baking area. The hostesses are young high school/college kids but so pretty and very friendly. The complementary bread basket had cinnamon raisin bread which was delicious, focaccia and traditional Italian all great. Our appetizers, the calamari and peppers were perfectly fried, and my broccoli rabe was seasoned just right. Hubby had chicken salad wrap and liked it a lot, and I ordered pear salad with goat cheese but didn't finish because I got full on all the other items. The food was great, and so was our waitress. We've come here multiple times and have never been disappointed. The only thing that ruined it was the manager who dropped our food off. We've encountered him other times when dining here, and he would just drop our food off without saying anything - whatever. This time, when he dropped our food off, my mom tried to hand him her empty soup bowl and he gave her the most disgusting look that I've ever seen. As a manager, I don't understand how he could possibly think that was okay. Split a chicken Caesar salad, v bland &!croutons stall - chicken fresh but had no flavor. Asked for a little extra dressing which showed up after meal was over. All in all not a negative experience. The parking lot was a little icy, but it's freezing December in New England, par for the course. We got a table right away, even though it was busy and the wait across the street was an hour. Our waitress was very pleasant, the service was a little slow. I offer that more of an observation and not a complaint, there were still a lot of people in the restaurant so it was understandable to a point. Just beware, if it's busy, expect a wait. I am super picky about pizza sauce, and I enjoyed First and Last's. I wish some of the tomato pureed a little more, but that's a personal preference. Extremely high-priced, mediocre pizza. The amount of cheese on the pizza is as absurd as the price tag they put on it.

So, I won't go as far as saying this was the worst $40 I've spent in my life, but the thought definitely crossed my mind as I ate dinner tonight. Boy, has this place gone downhill!! The last time I came here was a long time ago, but what I remember is that the basket of bread was always delicious. Not the case tonight. It was stale, hard to chew, and incredibly disappointing. We ordered a happy hour meatball ($2) and garlic parmesan fries ($4.50) to start. The meatball was overly salty and was sitting in a bowl of glorified Ragu. Bleh. The fries were probably the worst part of the meal. Coming from someone who loves potatoes/fries in every form, I literally ate three fries and could not continue. The fries tasted like they came from the freezer at the grocery store. Just now disappointment. For our meals, my husband and I both had salads. They were fine.
