Very interesting spot. Walking in, they were playing Jazz record albums- real vinyl! Very cool! Menu has some interesting dishes- I tried the Salmon Salad w/ goat cheese and beets and it was excellent. My friend had the Caesar salad w/ fried chicken and I tasted the chicken - which was very tasty. Their wine menu is interesting - not the usual run of the mill selections... I tried a glass of non alcoholic white wine for the first time. It really had a relaxed feel - mixed w/ a higher end drinks menu. I liked that there were a couple of college age young women came in and shared an order of pomme frites and a table of women who were clearly good friends having a glass of wine and catching up... This place is a joke! They can't even "make" a Dr. Pepper! When I informed my server that it was flat, servers gathered around" deciding if it was flat or not! These discussions were right in front of me, as if I was the stupid one! NOT!!!! The manager went over to them and took the offending drink to the back. At no time did she come over and discuss anything with me. Food was subpar. I don't understand all these five stars? I'll never be back! read more

Understandably, it was a little busy when we arrived but even after the other tables started clearing out, service still felt unusually slow. Fortunately, we enjoyed our meals once they came out (I had the mushroom patty melt)! I will have to try it again and hopefully the speed of service was just a one time. read more

We were t sure what to expect when we arrived to First Mile. At dinner, there's low light and candles. Reservations are encouraged. We sat at the bar which has a collection of records and turn tables on display. We tried a Tito's Apple Cooler. My husband loved it! Best described as cold apple cider with cinnamon sprinkled on top. For dinner, we enjoyed the classic fish sandwich. I felt the breading was lacking, but the condiments made up for it. It was served on what looked like fancy sandwich bread with shoestring fries. We also ordered the steak frites. The house salad dressing was light and delicious. The steak was well cooked and flavorful especially with the Wichita white steak sauce. Interestingly, we scanned a barcode and paid through a website instead of handing our card off. Overall, worth the visit. read more

My family experienced a sudden and unexpected loss. Our loved one's favorite restaurant is First Mile Kitchen. Nick and Amanda knows our family well. They were so very kind as to close the restaurant to host the reception after the service. They spent time discussing the food and drinks menu in detail to reflect our family's choices. They made great suggestions and showed lots of flexibility in requests made. After the service, when we arrived, everything was beautiful. The food was ready to be served. Not only was it delicious, but imbued with sentiment in honor of our loved one. Both Nick and Amanda stood by to help with anything needed or just to offer a kind word of remembrance. Their expert staff moved quietly among the group to take drink orders, keep the food available, remove any glasses/dishes and answer questions. It was hard to leave at the end of the evening, although the circumstances were difficult, the evening had gone perfectly. A finer or defter hand could not have been applied by Nick and Amanda. First time there and I had a good experience, the only reason for the minus one star is the bone marrow being WAY TOO sweet. There really wasn't any taste of marrow but just syrup and raisins. I also got the scallop crudo which was 5/5 and the BLT was decent. I wanted to try the oyster turner but they were out. Hubby got a beer and the prime rib sandwich, he had no complaints. Our server was very nice too. I would go back but not ordering the bone marrow again. read more

Wanted to try this place for a while, boy was I disappointed. Walked in and was not kindly greeted but instead just stared at. I asked to be seated outside and was met with a blank look and then silently lead outside to an end table. We waited 15 minutes to receive water and a greeting. There were a couple servers attending to other customers and not once were we acknowledged. We were ready to order as soon as the waitress got there. The water was warm and stagnant, the bloody mary was terrible! Bland, bitter, watery, and the only thing I had in it was an olive. Where was the celery? The food was nothing more than average. Homegrown needs to show them a thing or two. The waitress was not as attentive as I would have liked and only was at our table 4 times in the 2 hours we were there. To drop off water and take the order then to take a plate and bring the check. The overall experience was not only less than average but super disappointing and unexpected from such an establishment. It is safe to say that we will not be back and we will be letting others know. Do better! read more

Stopped in after a client out east. (Had been to the one downtown and got a fabulous grilled cheese) Got the HYFR (sp?) watermelon drink. Holy smokes!! It was awesome. I expected it to be sweet but it wasn't. It was spicy and fantastic. I also got the croquettas. They were great. Had a couple different sauces with them. I looked them except the one that tasted like cinnamon apple sauce. I think it tasted fine, I just don't like that flavor. The only sad thing was I was there during magic hour. Menu selection was like 6 items and drink specials. However, that sadness is just my fat gurl belly wanting more!! read more

On Monday I realized I needed to find a restaurant that was open for Thanksgiving that could accommodate 4 adults and 2 kids. I'm vegan and one of the other adults is gluten free. Fortunately, when I called they said that the set menu had multiple gluten free options! They did say that only the salad and sweet potatoes were vegan. Three days until Thanksgiving and there were two things I could eat on the set menu, FANTASTIC! We showed up about 5 minutes prior to our reservation and were promptly sat. The manager came over and informed me that they had actually prepared a vegan entree and a dessert. They absolutely did not have to do that for me, but I really appreciated it. They also reviewed what was gluten free on the menu. It was wonderful that all 6 people were able to eat a satisfying meal together on Thanksgiving, even though we made our reservations only a few days before. I've dined here twice in the last week. Each time was during the lunch hour. The weekday lunch was terrific. The Saturday lunch was also terrific. I've had the burrata appetizer, the wedge with grilled chicken (the Billionaires Bacon is to die for), and the Lobster Benedict is amazing. I love being seated near the wood burning grill and watching the chef prepare some of the food. The Sunrise Margarita is superb. The wait staff is lovely and attentive. Love this place. read more

Visiting from Washington DC and ate here for the first (and last) time today. Decor and tables were fine, but even though there were very few diners, it was quite loud. Very poor acoustics. Had to brush crumbs off our seats before sitting down. The food, not good. Deviled eggs with lobster were bad. Whites were overcooked and chewy in places, the yolk tasted of mayonnaise, vinegary mustard, and little else. Underseasoned. Lobster sprinkled over the top was bland, chewy, and overcooked. Added nothing to the dish. Lobster spaghetti, had a good amount of the same tasteless and overcooked lobster that rested atop the deviled eggs. Pasta was cooked competently, but the flavors were unbalanced. Underseasoned but garlicky with an unwelcome bitterness, and again, the lobster added nothing to the dish. Pork chop was cooked competently, but the sweet chili glaze was watery, bland, and sad. The greens were fine, and the potato purée was creamy but bland. Kids Mac and cheese. The best thing we had. Mac and cheese was gooey and cheesy, pasta was cooked nicely. Used large shells, which is a good call. Shoestring fries were cooked well, and unlike everything else we had, adequately seasoned. The water service merits a call-out. Tasted like tap water, which, if it's served room temp (as it was for us) is not the way to go. Ice it or filter it. Or if you're filtering it, change your filters. All in all, kind of an unfortunate and frustrating experience. These are fixable issues, particularly since at least some of the underlying cooking was not bad. To have every dish but the kids menu completely miss the mark from a flavor perspective is unacceptable. Hopefully more issues of quality control than anything more systemic, but bottom line, we regret visiting. A bright spot, the service. Waitstaff was pleasant and professional. Timely and present, but not intrusive. read more

What a great dining experience, felt like a taste of Chicago! Joey was a great host, guiding us through the menu. Lobster Deviled eggs were a very tasty surprise. My friends ordered prime French dip and I enjoyed the Sweet Chili Chicken Sandwich with red onion and an over easy fried egg. One of the better restaurants in Wichita, KS. Very cool ambiance, love they play cool vinyl and the food and service is very good. Yonnick is a server, sommelier and craft cocktail maker extraordinaire! Be sure to ask to sit at one of his tables if he's working. Get the halibut! For a steak and potatoes town, this is absolutely delicious and the best fish dish in town. The carrot ginger broth is a revelation and the fish is incredibly fresh seared and basted with miso over a sweet pea risotto. It makes you want to shimmy in your chair with the first bite. They have great appetizers and save room for the apple croissant bread pudding or their upscale take on a banana split! YUMMY IN MY TUMMY! We visit 2-3 times per month and sometimes just go early-ish and sit at the bar. read more

The food is the frosting on the cake when going to first mile, the service is always impeccable. we have been going to First mile in Wichita for the past year and I've tried just about everything on the menu and it's all wonderful the pancakes are so good I'd have them instead of birthday cake! Delicious food! I went with a friend for dinner and a drink. We both got the Tavern Salad with Chicken and split some truffle fries. It's hard to judge a restaurant based off of a salad...but wow! It was delicious!! The vinaigrette was well balanced and the chicken was moist and complimented the meal well. The truffle fries are amazing! Definitely enough there to split between two people - would make for a great appetizer. We both enjoyed our drinks as well. Highly recommend the spicy marg! Beautiful restaurant with an ambiance to match. This is definitely a date night restaurant, or somewhere to go when you are looking for a bit of a fancier meal. My partner and I typically struggle finding a good restaurant to go to, and usually just stick to the places that we are used to. I'm glad my friend suggested to go for dinner! The food was great. The customer service was good. I felt like I was eating in a restaurant in Las Vegas, there was very little to complain about except the seating - it was a wooden bench with super thin padding that was uncomfortable by the end of the meal.
