I had been told that I would need brakes within 5000 miles several months ago by another car repair shop. Not knowing about brakes, I educated myself and then visited First Street Tow & Auto using a Groupon promotional coupon. When I called to make the appointment, I was told they are under new management. They were great! It was late evening and my car wouldn't start. Called AAA. The AAA service truck (not a tow truck) people said it wasn't the battery & my car needed to be towed. Victor from First Street Tow arrived. My car stalled in the middle of high traffic on First Street in downtown Pleasanton. I called First Street Tow company and they arrived on the scene in less than 10 minutes! The most expensive towing in the nation. They charged me $400 within few hours. $225/h+$100 after hour charges and $75 storage. They towed my car without my knowledge and they have deal with Walmart to tow cars and rob people with those costs. Don't ever call them for anything. read more

Stay away from these guys! One of our cars got a very flat tire (shredded) at Safeway. The car was towed from Safeway to them in the late afternoon on a weekday. They close early so we were forced to pick the car up the next day. The car was not even there for 24 hours and our bill was $404.12 Really? I guess they charge calendar days, not hourly for pick up. Then we asked them to tow the car to the street so we could then get a tire. They would not tow it and we were forced to drive it out on a rim mostly-the tire was so shredded. Steer clear of these guys, they were not even polite to deal with when we made the payment. read more

Tonight my moms van broke down on her while on the freeway. AAA took over 2 hours to respond to a priority. So I headed out to her and was able to fix her van enough to get her off the freeway. When AAA found out, they canceled the call and said we needed to generate another call and it would take about another hour. NO THANK YOU!!! I noticed some unhappy reviews for the towing part of the business. Both operations are under new management. This is the kind of auto repair place you dream of finding. After one mechanic cost me an engine and another was unable to find the problem that was making me afraid of my car, Ray and his team found the sources of all of the problems I was having. My daughter is an excellent diagnostician and, over the phone, verified that what he said was wrong fit and that he was charging a very fair price for the work. What a joke! If I could give them minus stars, I would! They take advantage of people with extremely high prices after they tow. If you ask them about price difference, they are very rude and threatening. I am really surprised they are still in business, I guess that's why they charge the incredible high prices they do after a tow. Maybe try not doing that and watch more people come thru the doors. I purchased a Groupon for Front & Rear brake pads with installation. When I arrived, they took me right away. I met with Mike and he told me that it would take an hour and a half for the service. He called me about an hour later to tell me that they were almost finished with the work. They also did a complimentary vehicle inspection. They did recommend some repairs but they did not pressure me in any way. I was very happy with the service and I will be back to complete the repairs that they recommended. AUTO REPAIR YOU CAN TRUST! Initially i only planned on a specific 1-time use and that was to use my Groupon for front brakes. Going in i knew i needed to have my rotors resurfaced and i got a quote from Reuben for that as well. Before the brake job even began, Reuben could sense my concern about all things mechanical and he was kind enough to include a lesson all about rotors and resurfacing and how they are measured, etc., including taking me back and showing me how he measures! I am impressed with his sincerity and passion for his knowledge and level of expertise. Reuben could have stopped there and i would have been 100% happy/satisfied. However, he also noticed an engine torque strut completely worn out (mileage is138K and running strong!) and called me back to see it and ask if i'd like this remedied as well. Absolutely! By now my TRUST is secure and i feel positive my 2003 Lexus is in capable and caring hands, Reuben's. CONCLUSION: My car hasn't run this smoothly in years & no! this is not an exaggeration...that new engine torque strut has been need to be replaced for a l-o-n-g time and Reuben 'cared' enough to bring this to my attention in a way that fostered trust and a eased my fear of being a woman in a male-dominated profession. These guys are great when your looking for help. They are very professional and have reasonable prices. They have helped me in the past when moving jobs to load my tool box and take it to another shop. With having expensive tools (Snap-on box and tools) they loaded the equipment very carefully and got it to my new work site without damaging anything. This place is the best! I've gotten multiple services done here by Reuben from routine oil changes to most recently, getting my A.C. fixed. My car runs better than it has for a long time and it has a lot to do with the excellent, professional service it gets from First Street Auto Service. What an ordeal we've had. Heading out on a family camping trip, we found ourselves on the side of 680 with a flat and no spare on our camper at almost midnight. I have had a few experiences with having my car towed in the last few months with more than one company. I must say that First Street Tow was very reasonably priced compared to other tow companies in the area. The wait time was reletively short and the driver that came was very helpful and courteous. He even took the time to try and get my car going to save me money by not having to pay for a tow. Unfortunately there was no getting it to go, but at least the driver took the time to try. I had my choice of where I wanted it towed to for repair, I wasn't bullied into taking it to their shop. But after calling around to get quotes I chose First Street Tows shop because they were somewhat cheaper and were much friendlier than people I talked to at other shops. Diagnostics were done in a timely manner and I was given a quote of what everything was going to cost that same day. The pricing was good and they were able to give me a reasonable estimate of how long it would take to fix. I went ahead with the work and they exceeded my expectations! The work was completed sooner than the estimate which saved me money by cutting down on the hours of labor. My car is running great now and I haven't needed a tow since taking it to First Street Tow! I would highly recommend First Street Tow and their repair shop to anyone. Bottom line, it's great friendly service that is reasonably priced. read more

Had similar experience to Kim J. They tried to bill us for more days than they'd stored the car and issued a lien for non-payment despite the fact that our insurance was taking care of everything. And they couldn't even file the lien correctly, sent paperwork for a vehicle valued under $4000 when our car was worth far more. First off those of you people complaining, seriously it's either because you couldn't read NO PARKING SIGNS, OR CAR IMPOUNDED BY POLICE!!!!! This row truck company is one of the cheapest in the area. The tow truck drivers are CHP(California Highway Patrol) certified. As well as very careful and conscious of the vehicle being towed. I called them anytime I need a tow. With a muscle car in progress that Is a lot of tows! Plus the mechanic work. Being that's my future career that in going to school for. I know there mechanic is awesome and really knows what he is doing. I only let 2 people touch under the hood of my car and first streets mechanic is one of them. All in all don't do illegal things (parking where tow away signs are posted, no parking areas, or getting pulled over by the police[which that says it all right there]) and u wont get charged POLICE TOW RATES (meaning every tow company in the same city have the same rate that the cities police state) Obey all police signs and California's Driver Codes and you won't have to pay the price. First street is great. Responsible Towing and Great mechanic. I will always use First Street Tow & Auto Repair for all my towing and mechanic work. Thank you guys so much! read more

I came across a groupon special for brake service, thought I would give em' try since the previous reviews from other customers were very good- Boy! There were sure right! Got there around 7:50 and they opened their doors already! the dropping off part was a breeze. Then an hour past by Mike the awesome mechanic called and let me know that my rotors needs to be replace! (bummer) But Mike gave me a great price and he did save me money by re-surfacing the rear rotors that did not needed to be replace. My brake job was done before noon Mike even ask if I needed a ride for me to pick up my car. Mike was very pleasant and honest! so as Roy (i think that's his name?) the one who picked me up. came in for a brake job, had provided the make/model/VIN beforehand, was taken to a cafe to wait (nice of them) and then i call them 30 minutes later to ask about resurfacing the rotors and they mention that oh, the rotors need to be replaced (they cannot be resurfaced on a VW Eos apparently), that'll be $350 more, and can't do the brake job unless you get that too. sounds like a typical car shop gimmick? turns out they are right and the price for the rotors are fair, but honestly at the very last minute doesn't seem that honest to me. one would think, you might mention this $350 dollar possibility before one is sitting in a cafe for 30 minutes? i understand they need to check out the car, but as it was explained to me, as a rule for this car, the rotors need to be replaced if they are worn, while you are getting the brakes done. so..... maybe mention that high likelihood $350 possibility before the customer thinks the job is getting done (and before driving from SF to Pleasanton, but that was my mistake. never again). after some back and forth where no alternative to getting the extra service was offered, i called the job off. then waited another 40 minutes in the cafe to get picked up, and other than the nice girl at the front, nobody offered any explanation or apology before i left. i'm sure the service itself would have been fine, but with these types of services, i place a higher value on being up front, courteous and considerate of time, and those were all sadly lacking. i'm glad other have had such good experiences; sometimes you just get unlucky! read more
